well my abigail hobbs hot take is that she understands alana as a shade of her mother (kind but blind, ineffectual and powerless), hannibal as a shade of her father (the monster who protects her and kills her in equal measures), and will as a mirror of herself (which is why she is repulsed and frightened by him despite all his efforts to connect with her)
hannibal establishing his therapy practice as one where it seems right and proper to show up wearing formal or business wear, thereby placing a kind of unspoken agreement to present yourself at your best while also revealing to him your certain worst aspects of yourself. therapy becoming something not just gut-wrenching and vulnerable, but something that requires you to dress yourself and confess. one does not rip out their hearts while wearing jeans and a t-shirt. if one must be exposed, do so with elegance and beauty. there is no place for tragedy if it cannot be polished and refined
we joke so much about jack ignoring the signs that will was completely obsessed with hannibal as if it's a matter of him being blind or stupid. but in reality it's because he was also obsessed with hannibal, just in the opposite direction. no one is immune to that freak.
