Update 4/27/2014
I was forced to restart the game. Again. But I was almost done with the previous one anyway so it's not a huge deal this time. (I just didn't have a child with Souma or get to check one of the bonus cutscenes.)
This turned out to be a very important test run, because I forgot or didn't think about a lot of things when it comes to the babies.
I decided to focus on Alan and Esmaralda this time.
Story:
+Started dating both of them.
+Worked on both post-couple cutscenes to make them flow better.
+Married and had children with both of them.
+Realized that I didn't prevent you from dating or marrying anybody if you choose to stay with one person if you started dating two people before getting married once. I did this. It was hell.
+I stalked them around in two areas. I might just stop there, make a new file and be in a monogamy next. Probably with Umeko. (For some reason I have a feeling that I might have missed up with her in some places.)
Children, because there's so much here it deserves it's own section:
+I forgot to make a second "baby discussion" event if you choose to remain in a monogamy, so I made one. You don't get a choice in the gender- the gender of the second baby is going to be the opposite of your first one when you have a second child with your first spouse. (I don't want to make another two sets of children for every canddiate.)
+Realized that, with the limited amount of "switches" that can be on each character, you cannot have a cutscene with your first spouse and second child unless you have twins. So I made a separate cutscene where you're alone so you can name your child.
I might be able to change this at some point, but for now I have to keep my "switch" slots open since I have to use so damn many already. Doing it this way saves me twelve of them.
+Forgot to actually make sure the discussion about having a baby isn't repeated over and over again every night. I also forgot to turn off the counters for the babies and set them back to zero once they're born so they wouldn't be replaced every day.
+The genius who made this version of RPG Maker decided that you can't have an "event" with a set variable. It's always set as "or above" by default.
This is relevant to the children because I, not thinking about this, had some children set to certain variables depending on who their second parent is. So if you married say, both Alan and Esmaralda, whenever it's Alan's turn to watch his kid outside of the crib, he takes both babies with him. It'd be adorable if this wouldn't mean that your babies could duplicate depending on who you marry.
So instead of variables I had to use up another 48 switch slots- four for each candidate. Basically, I had to name them "Alan skin 1 baby 1," "Alan skin 2 baby 1" "Alan skin 1 baby 2" "Alan skin 2 baby 2" for each and every single candidate.
But at least I saved 12 slots before!
+Because of all of this, I made some changes to the drafted post about babies.
Misc:
+I saw that the "Dating Sim" demo didn't actually work properly. So once this is out you won't be able to have the option to (not) play it until and unless I fix it. (I'm not surprised at all that it doesn't really work. I made it while I was coming down from a birth control shot.)
Instead you get to play a "demo" of the puzzle mini game. (It's the same puzzle every time.) I'm not sure if I'll ever fix the Dating Sim demo. (I'm not sure if I can. I'm not exactly the most coherent person in the world after getting those shots.)
+I made sure that you'll actually Game Over if Hiro dies in the Dungeon Crawler demo. Maybe. It's untested and it was just a quick fix for the mini game I only made just to see if I could.

I understand why ConcernedApe didn't want to do rival marriages now. My back is hurting just from trying to implement such a thing. I didn't even get to the actual rival marriage part yet! (That's not gonna happen until much later.)
Not Marvelous though. They already got the formula worked out since like... 64? Maybe sooner?
Their reason for taking it away is stupid. Basically, some people in Japan were complaining about having rivals or something. This shit is tedious as fuck so I'm guessing that they don't mind not having to implement rivals, but I still miss having them. That's why I want them in this game.

Update 4/17/24
Story:
+Made sure that you can't get married unless you see all of the candidate's events, maybe. (There are some exceptions, like one that you can miss with Alderic.)
+Started dating Souma.
+Started dating Ollie.
+Started regretting giving myself a boost for everybody. When I restart the game to test two other people out I'm going to only boost myself for two people.
+Had to change part of Souma's final heart event (as only a partner) where you battle two people for some SyNtAx ErRoR that i can't get fixed "UnLeSs I uPdAtE tO v.21!" which is impossible. (Unless you want me to take away the character customization, the ability to decorate your house, and the entire god damn Pokedex.)
+Also tested Ollie's final heart event.
+Got engaged, married to, had the child discussion and had a child with Ollie.
+Got engaged and married to Souma.
+Stalked both of them.
By the way, you can apparently just... Skip cutscenes if you mashed the "space" button fast enough. Weird.
Misc:
+Made the message for the Combee hive shorter to make it faster to farm for a female one. (Yes, I got annoyed at my past self for making it three text boxes long.)
+Started typing down where your significant other's last event takes place (I haven't updated the page yet) because I got confused when I couldn't find them.
+Reached winter time and realized that I haven't made the new winter maps yet. I'll do that after I go to bed. (That or I'll replace everything bit by bit so I won't have to worry about connecting the maps to everything again. I decide on that later.)

I just went through Ollie's second event and I am honestly surprised with my past self as well as disgusted with how... Accurate it seems to be. More than I originally thought when I wrote it.
Spoilers for Ollie. (And a lot of personal things, too.)
I've been working on this game for years now (with one year off to focus on commissions) and one major thing has happened while I've been working on it. (Other than my marriage, which I referenced in the game.)
So when I started working on this game I've been reading, hearing about and seeing a lot of transphobia. I haven't seen it be so loud before that.
At some point a Youtuber who I used to watch (before she switched to another form of content that I didn't like) was finally in a position to come out as MTF trans. Transphobia made me mad before, but afterwards I almost felt like it was personal.
I would just listen to her struggles and her journey to transitioning while I was making the sprites for the candidates of this game. I didn't have them all figured out yet, but listening to her I knew that I wanted to have one who's trans.
I decided on MTF because I'm a cis woman, so I know how it feels like to want to be a woman. That's not to say that it's the same. I know it's not the same and I won't ever know what it's like to have gender dysphoria. I just know how it feels like to be a girl is all.
In Ollie's second event you meet her mother. She heard that her "son" have been making and selling clothes and she was thinking that Ollie have gone past her "phase" and that she just wanted to make dresses.
Once she finds out that Olivia is still Olivia and not Oliver she goes on a rant, calls her name and say something like "nobody will ever love you if you don't stop" and "what about children?!"
My thought process was that I want to make my thoughts about transphobes very clear. I wanted to make it obvious that I think she is the bad guy and have the other characters kick her out for her bigotry. So I decided to exaggerate her transphobia. Or at least that's what I thought I was doing at the time.
So this is when it gets really personal.
When I was about fourteen my aunt died. Then her boyfriend died not too long after. They had a child together. My cousin was placed in the foster care system and we lost contact with my cousin for fourteen years. It was during the last recession. All of us were struggling to financially or physically take care of ourselves, let alone a child. (Or in my case, too young.) I don't even think we had time to talk about adoption before it too late.
Then in mid 2020 my cousin found my mom on Facebook. They used a feminine first name and my aunt's last name to get my mom to accept their message. They said something like "hey auntie. This is a picture of me when you last saw me" and attached was a picture of them when they were ten years old.
When my mom told me I cried. I cried a lot. I didn't stop talking about my little cousin and how the foster care system took "him" away for fourteen years and she contacted my mom out of the blue one day. I made it kind of hard for my mom to tell me that she's MTF trans. I just kind of went "oh" and went back to crying for a while because god dammit she's okay and I don't have to worry about her so much anymore! And if I do get worried, I can just contact her!
After talking to my cousin for a while she started to open up and talked to me about how much shit she had to go through. A lot of the shit her foster mom would tell her was so similar to what I made Ollie's mother say that it's scary.
She'd tell her that we abandoned her, that we didn't want her (none of us stopped talking about her in fourteen years) and that even if we saw her again we would never want her back if she kept "pretending" to be a girl. (She was right in some cases. My cousin was lucky to have found my mom on Facebook and not my dad/her uncle. My dad doesn't want anything to do with her unless she's his nephew.)
I haven't read through that event in years. I'd just skipped it once I found out that it worked to save time. It's making me feel almost sick just how fucking accurate I was. It distracted me so much I had to stop to let out my personal feelings.
By the way, the only reason why I made Ollie's identity a secret (thus the "spoiler warning") unless you befriend her is because I wanted her to be cautious of people thanks to her mother. She looks like a girl and strangers don't need to know that she's a pre-operation trans woman. But when you get close to her she realizes that you'll need to know sometime.

I'm getting increasingly annoyed by my stroked out brain. I can 100% guarantee that you can't marry at least one person because of something I forgot to do.

Update (and replacement graphic download) 4/12/25
Download for updated graphics (see details below.)
-I went on a date with Umeko and I just realized how weird her date portrait looks. Like, it was clear that I rushed the pixel art weird. So I changed a lot of it to look a lot better.
Tumblr media
There are things that I can still do to improve her portrait but I at least changed the things that bothered me the most.
I'm not going to have the originals available for download. I doubt anybody would be heartbroken by that.
+In the process of making it so it'd be impossible to ask somebody else for a New Year's date if the player is either married twice or chose monogamy after getting married once. (This does not apply for the date events, though I might change that in the future if it weirds me out too much.)
I might have forgotten to do this for a character for two.
+I extended your Daycare Center by like, four tiles, for reasons you don't have to worry about.
+Made progress with a bunch of characters. (I gave myself a huge boost with all of them, so I got to see a bunch of cutscenes.)
+Placed some characters where they actually need to be during certain cutscenes. Except for one, because I can't find her in the maker somehow.
+Made minor changes to some dialogue from dates

I sped through getting eight badges and going through Pierce's story by teleporting everywhere and having a few level 100 Pokemon. It still took me an hour and a half to do. I also gave myself a boost with both Souma and Cerise.
I also remembered that I didn't "forget" to remake the winter maps. I was going to wait until I place the updated candidates in place. So I'll have to remake those maps again. Whoops.
Anyway,
-The clerks in Nemorensis' department store's fifth floor will sell you evolution items that are different from the stones the ones in Fulgora will sell you.
-Made the Power Plant look different from the department store in Fulgora.
-I renamed Ludavine in the cutscene where you meet her.
-Added three maps to the Safari Zone. I plucked them out of my Gen 3-styled BETA Johto map that I made when I was getting used to a new prescription, and I cut two of them by half. I think one was going to be Coronet Mountain. (Partially because it was labeled "Mt. Fuji" in the Spaceworld '97 BETA.)
I think that's about it. Other than maybe some minor things with the newer maps I think I'm about ready to test marriage out.
This does mean that I won't have any new downloads for a while. (I will have to restart my game at least five times.) I'll still update my progress. (The things I haven't crossed out yet are either connected to the candidates or are something I have to do immediately before releasing this build.)

I'm so FUCKING PISSED right now! All I fucking try to do is make sure you could fly to some place, and that somehow corrupted my entire fucking save. So I have to have a new save and do EVERYTHING all fucking over again. (If I try to give myself a head start with say, Pierce, a lot more problems will happen.)
Also at least one town can't be flown to. I'm not going to fucking try that ever again.
I'm not going to bother testing anything for a while probably, which is too bad because I was pretty much ready to test the marriage and children.
I fucking hate this. Out of every fucking RPG Maker in the world they had to choose one that's 20 years old!
---
-You can buy the bed and cribs now.
-Went down to floor 150 of Augusta Cave. I tried to fight the battle but couldn't because the rule "cannot run from battle" wasn't working. I looked up why not and apparently I can't use that rule with the wild Pokemon that's there? Then why would you program it, huh?!
So now you can run from boss battles in the cave.
-I expanded the bedroom.
-Oversimplified the elevator in the cave, because I don't care enough to fix it in the way I had it working before.
-I've deleted Floors 34-Whatever number I was on of the original Augusta Cave, so leave the cave if you're still in the cave when the Pokemon are completely random and not out in the overworld. (At least go up to 33. You SHOULD just leave altogether though.)
-When looking through the images to see if I needed to make any backgrounds transparent I noticed that there was a "safety copy" of the "flying" icon with a blank image replacing it. I don't know what the script expects me to do with that, so I just replaced the map icon with the most gender neutral thing I could think of.
-I forgot to put the clock on your bedroom wall. So basically up until now you had an invisible clock.
-Tested flying to the new winter maps. (All two of them.)
+Did a bunch of small things that I forgot to do before because they were small.
+Tested and adjusted the remaining gyms as needed
+Replace the list of things I need to code with a list of things I need to test here. (Some things might have been repeated.)
+Was able to test an event that happens during a thunderstorm. (It stormed by chance!)
+Tested almost all flying locations. One wasn't working so I tried to make it work. Game got fucking corrupted. Have to play for fucking hours to test the remaining town. Fuck you, you're walking to that one town every time.

Looking through the "progress report" I do realize that I might have missed some very small things. (I just have to check.) I might just add those things to my list of things I have to test out later. (I'm very tired right now.)
Gyms:
+Tested the remaining three gyms and their leaders and fixed anything that needed to be fixed.
+Tested most of everything that either requires a certain badge (that isn't available yet) or that requires eight badges. For one of the major things I'd need to pop the new candidate's dialogue in for, and I'm not going to do that until I'm absolutely sure that I've done everything else.
-Made the Larenta Gym a maze, (like it was before,) but the puzzle is still the same otherwise.
-I oversimplified the fucking gym challenge in the Tellus gym. Fuck RPG Maker XP's inability to let me do anything creative that doesn't require 100 switches. This is why all of the gyms are so fucking bland.
Pokemon:
-Made Cubone a common Pokemon in Route 2 (the part directly under Tellus) that can have rare chance at getting a Rare Bone. For reasons. I also switched the "Lightning Rod" ability to "Hyper Cutter" since Lightning Rod would mostly be useful for double battles, and there's not a whole lot of those in this game. (I did the same for Marowak.)
Possible glitches and oversight fixes:
-I don't know if this was a problem for everybody since nobody reported this as being a problem, but I couldn't enter Communa Village with those cuttable trees there so I had to remove them. I can enter it now at least. (Those trees weren't really needed anyway.)
Misc:
-For some reason Pokemon Essentials tend to randomize what properties each map gets (outdoor/indoor, bike rideable, etc.) instead of having a default. So I went down the list of each and every map and changing them to be indoor/outdoor and bike ridable.
-I got annoyed at my past self for not having the hours of every public building in Pomona listed, so I added those to the signs.
-Changed the look of some maps for one reason or another. They are minor and will almost definitely not effect your game, but just in case you should make sure that you're not saved in
Route 3 (Either part.)
The south part of Fulgora city.
Larenta's Gym

I lied when I said that I was done with this next major build and that I was ready to test it. I forgot to redo the winter maps.
Most of the other changes I did are for the early game.
Dialogue:
-Changed some dialogue to match the current game. (For example: Ludavine said that the previous owner died, but I decided to make him move away for retirement instead.)
-Didn't actually do anything with this yet, but apparently I originally wanted to call her "Ludivine" and I accidentally, subconsciously changed it to "Ludavine" somehow??? I'm going to wait to see if I called her that more often I called her "Ludavine."
Pokemon (+trainers):
-Adjusted some of the levels for some of the wild and trainer's Pokemon. (Mostly early game and Gym Leaders.)
-Added a Pokemon to Sam & Kelli's team. Also lowered the Pokemon's levels since they(/we) have a full team now. (We've had Poppy for almost a year now.)
Art:
-Adjusted some pictures. (Like the intro one.)
Possible glitch and oversight fixes:
-Possibly fixed the dresser to allow the players who chose the non-binary characters to customize themselves.
-I accidentally had a tile that would reroll the weather. I (think) I got rid of that.
-Meowth won't show up in your bedroom if the weather is bad unless you actually have a Meowth guarding your plants now. (This wasn't a glitch. I just completely forgot to do this LMAO.)
-I forgot to make sure that all of those tiles I added before actually gets watered when it rains. I fixed that.
Misc:
-Made it impossible for the player to move on past the woods before going to bed during the first day. (It probably wouldn't effect anything, but still.)
-Made it so the image displaying the weather deletes itself when you go to bed, so it won't show you the weather until you step away from the bed. (Onto one of the tiles that rolls the weather for that day. I have to keep them separated for reasons.)
-Actually made a winter map for the "backyard" that attaches to the barn.
+Redid the winter maps.
Blog:
-Changed the "Credits" page to reflect current events. I tried saving as many download links as possible from Relic Castle but a couple of them weren't recoverable through Way Back.

Story:
+Finally finished Souma, meaning that I can finally start testing this build.
Edit: I lied. I'm not done yet. I completely forgot about the winter maps.
Misc:
-Changed the intro so instead of playing as the first two options you now play as the player you choose and it won't change unless you're able to use the custom clothes feature. I dunno why I didn't do it this way in the first place. It's so much easier this way.
-Added a little Easter egg in the intro house.
+I think I successfully changed it so you won't be forced to have a child. The countdown for the discussion to have a child shouldn't happen until you buy a crib or two.

I don't want to go into detail over why it took so long. The explanation itself is long. I'm not even done celebrating Christmas yet. (Maybe.)

Story:
+Made some progress with Souma.
Graphics:
-Made the monitor where you can fund the construction of buildings a kind of golden color as one last attempt to get the player to look at it before I give up and have a cutscene forcing the player into a tutorial where the game handholds you into learning how the monitor works against your will.
Possible glitch and oversight fixes:
-Attempted to fix a syntax error when the player tries to purchase seeds for berries that will weaken a super effective move. A syntax error is usually caused by a typo, but there isn't any so I had to completely guess at what the problem is and fill one of the slots with Oran seeds. (I did that for EV reducing berry seeds too, just in case.)
-I'm an idiot who didn't allow anybody to make upgrades to their farms by accident. That should be changed now.

Hello I just started playing Everlasting Orchard and am so excited for it and would love to help you with testing it, but want to know what kind of etiquette you want in your reports. Your FAQ already mentions wanting specifics, but I don't want to come across as rude when you're already working hard on something I would never be able to do so I would like additional info. Are typos/grammar issues too minor for you to deal with right now? Any other preferences on reporting back on the game?
Unfortunately there's no easy way to fix any dialogue with RP Maker XP. I wish there was a text file or something that has every piece of dialogue in the game that I can edit. It would save me so, so much time. XP is so outdated but it's my only option if I want to use Pokemon Essentials.
With that said, my current priorities for this game are basically:
Fixing (some*) glitches and oversights. I'd appreciate reports on these things the most.
Finishing the story.
Testing, doing finishing touches and then testing again. (If I test marriage right away I won't be able to release any new builds until I'm done, so I'm going to test everything else before making marriage possible for myself.)
Fixing typos. (I'll fix them if I run into them, basically. It'd be extremely tedious to click every single event in the game and read every little thing I've typed out.)
*There are some glitches I can't fix because they're not broken for me and I can't find another way to code it. There are some mobile-only glitches that I'm not worried about at all because I'm not making this game with mobile in mind. And then there are some oversights that I know exists but they're a small benefit to the player so I'm not worried about them at all.
I do appreciate your concern for me as a game dev! I'm always extremely busy around the end of the year (Thanksgiving/Christmas time. Especially from the past few years) so I can barely get anything done in my game. I try to fix any glitches or exploits that I can as soon as I get them reported. It's just hard to be online sometimes.

Just one more thing before I can start testing, and it's probably going to take me forever to actually finish it.

Pokemon:
-Happa will now start with Vine Whip if chosen as your first Pokemon. (I don't know why I didn't have that in the first place.) If your Happa has less than four moves and one of those moves isn't Vine Whip, then Vine Whip will most likely take one of those slots.
-I also reduced the levels it needs to learn moves by 1 or 2 levels for the first few moves.
-And I also gave it Twister as an egg move, even though there's probably not a Pokemon that can breed with the Happa line that can learn the move Twister right now.
Story:
-Finish Cerise's post-marriage schedule.
-Started Souma's post-marriage schedule.
Glitches and oversight fixes:
-Added the four other players back in the "transition" folder for those who are still playing on a pre-player customization save.

I'm sure nobody cares but I'm going to say my excuses anyway- My husband got a new job working nights, meaning that our afternoons are free. This means that we've been doing all of our errands throughout several days instead of trying to cram them all in in two days a week.
My mom also broke her foot, so we've been getting her groceries, taking her to her appointments and playing with her chinchilla every night.
With all of that said, this might be the last update before I start testing everything that I've added but kept away from the player. (The rest of the gyms, marriage, children, etc.) All I will have to do is finish Cerise and Souma and then I'll be ready for testing.
I'll test the gyms first since I can just teleport to get inside of them. Once I start testing the dating and marriage phases I can't upload bug fixes until I'm done.
Link to the blog page that has the download
Story:
+Finished Alderic's post-marriage schedule.
+Finished Jayce's post-marriage schedule.
+Almost done with Cerise's post-marriage schedule.
+Finished Ludavine's schedule. (Related to Cerise's.)
+Started working on the triggers and conditions for something that I won't be working on yet (probably not any time soon) but I realized that it'd be quicker and easier to do it now rather than when the next major build is up and everybody is scattered all across the map.
Glitches and oversight fixes:
-During Alan's third event if you or anybody in the event hit an invisible wall the event just continues instead of freezes now. This is what I usually do just in case I place something in the way later on, completely forgetting that it would be in the way but I didn't for this event for some reason.
-I may have fixed all of Pierce's battles. I'm not entirely sure on this though since the person who reported one of his battles not working never told me what starter they chose.
Graphics:
-Replaced the sprites in character select image with portraits since the game uses the player's portrait on the card by default.
Blog:
+Started a guide for that thing. It's short, out of order in places and is basically just there to remind me what the triggers are supposed to do.
Misc.:
-Now when you get the third upgrade to your house, the main bedroom will be expanded too. Most of the stuff are staying in the same place. I'm just doing this because the spouses and some of the non-interactable things started to make the room crowded.
-I also expanded the farm for the same reason. I expanded the width by 6 tiles and the height by 3.
-Made the second monitor in Pomona's Pokemon Center "sparkle" because people keep on completely missing it somehow and they keep asking me how to unlocking being able to build certain buildings.
