I’ve been seeing it happen to a handful of people, but apparently if you try to delete your sideblog you will end up deleting your MAIN tumblr account entirely as well I don’t know if this is a bug or something, but I’ve seen it happen to ~4 people now, so until this possible bug gets worked out do NOT delete any of your sideblogs unless you want to risk deleting your account entirely

Friends, I need your help!

My bestie is writing his thesis, which means when I started complaining about the tumblr bot attacks, he immediately latched on to the issue to do some non-thesis related coding...

As you can see, this is a coder getting some top quality enrichment!

He's basically making a tumblr add-on that would generate lists of blogs that have no pfp, no banner, no title, and no posts. And then mass blocking them! It could be tweaked further to make lists to review (maybe a banner and pfp but no post? maybe a single post).

I'm sure this would be most useful to large blogs swamped with bots who can't easily browse thousands of account to clean up manually.

Now what's funny is that through this, we discovered that the reason we have such issues with bots, is that tumblr's API is completely buggy and broken, and they've known it (and supposedly are working on it) for over 8 years.

Other people have been struggling in the same way with the API (check out the staff's hilarious answer though lol)

Anyway, you may not be a coder, and not sure how you can help. But my friend basically only need to do his own testing on his own tumblr blog.

He needs a little over 20 followers to be able to test his own coding!

So please go follow @potatowhatever-blog !!

You won't get spammed and probably won't see much interaction. But once his app is out you'll get to use it to help filter the bots out until tumblr staff pulls their fingers from their nethers.
