It's always weird to see fandom interpretations of dick and damians 2009 era dynamic where dick was trying hard to step up as a parental figure when... he was literally not. Like dick didn't want to be damians dad*, damian didn't want dick to be his dad. Dicks main concerns were crushing expectations of legacy and stopping crime. He gave damian detective training and combat training, but he wasn't really trying to be a dad figure he read a lot more to me as someone who was like. If things aren't broken don't fix them. And like importantly. Dick did viewed damian as an obligation at first. He did generally not have a super high opinion of him or treat him like a regular kid. Thinking of specifically MULTIPLE INSTANCES in which damian may be in some type of danger (captured, or alone with a supervillain ,or injured) and dick is like "I'm not worried about HIM" or is just generally emotionally in something else.

Damian is often left on his own devices during the day which happens to work bc he has insane work ethic and self discipline.

*this isn't to say that one can't imagine they eventually get this dynamic, but I'm talking about canonically during Bruce is dead era

Was the first to be called detective by Ras Al Ghul. Referenced as the 2nd best detective, he was first because Bruce was thought to be dead. He has a shit ton of feats including solving multiple cold cases on his couch. Him being the “emotionally intelligent” one is funny and fanon because he’s canonically a lot like Bruce, and if you said this around the titans they’d laugh. Tom Taylor’s nightwing is based off fanon so yeah people think this shit about him but post crisis Dick was a different character.

I hate that “smartest Robin” shit because it’s always “Dick is an airhead <3 cass only speaks violence <3 Jason is a meathead idiot <3 who’s duke ?” like. they’re all canonically intelligent in different ways and it’s kind of hard to ignore the way other characters are weakened in Tim comics to hype him up (like Oracle). Dick Grayson is canonically the best detective out of them.

okay ignoring the semantics of “everyone is intelligent in their own special little ways” please tell me how dick is canonically the best detective out of the robins. literally show me where it says that. also I will always find it so funny that people like this will correct you with so much confidence but keep themselves on anon . . . like why are you hiding buddy? 🧐

also in what world do you live in that dick is considered the “airhead” and not the “first and most iconic robin who is known for his emotional intelligence, acrobatics, and leaderships skills”. where jason is the “meathead” and not the “literature nerd with a shit ton of trauma and a very complex moral compass”. where cass “only speaks violence” instead of cass “fluently speaks body language and is also a badass who is deeply empathetic and loving”. I’ll give you duke because my boy is criminally underrated but still I’m really not sure where you’re getting all this unless you’ve only interacted with the bat family fanbase for like a millisecond.

First and foremost is the bimbofication of Dick Grayson. Tom Taylor loves to write him like this idiot who doesn't think at all. Being cheerful does not mean being dumb.

Even Bruce in Batman: Hush has said it-Dick was the best. His skills were the best of anyone he's witnessed which is one of the reasons why Bruce let him be Robin in the first place.

This scene is so wrong that there's a robin scene that came out before this in direct opposition of this Tom Taylor Shitshow.

This was actually pre-robin. Bruce had him do a solo-trial run to see his skill before he made him Robin and this was the result. Compare that to Tom Taylor's scene and the result is humiliating. For Taylor.

Tom Taylor's version of trying to show that Dick loves the people comes off as him hating crime-fighting. RIP the whole Robin firing drama and Nightwing birth i guess.

I know he's seen as a happy character but him finding dog-food desirable is too far!

Also the idiocy of which Tom Taylor had Barbara calling the cops in Bludhaven for a stolen wallet. Newsflash! This isn't her first rodeo here.

One of the worst things in Taylor's run is how Blockbuster went down. It suddenly reminded me of Selina's stupid ideology which is why I think I got so ticked off.

Blockbusters' thugs loyalty to him isn't a make it or break it deal. He's one of strongest criminal organisations and the knowledge that he owns one of the worst prisons that he could easily put his underlings into would've instilled fear into his thugs, not freedom. Furthermore Blockbuster takes good care of his people that don't piss him off. He teamed up with Nightwing in the scarecrow era in Nightwing (2016) because someone was messing with his people. He's extremely intelligent and superstrong, and he's not just going to be brought down by the knowledge that he owns a prison. It's Bludhaven. If he didn't, then there would be something suspicious given that he runs the city. It's the way Taylor dumbs down Bludhaven's villains that gets to me. Imagine him writing Batman (2016). It's like saying, "yeah the Joker was just a little misguided but he found the right way again after a stern talking to by Batman."

Nightwing is a big name.

When Dick first came to Bludhaven, one of the police officers was like we don't want your crazy here or something. Also Bludhaven loves Nightwing. They want him.

So why is everyone pretending like they don't know who he is?

The police, the citizens, the villains-all of them. Dick fought Brutale and beat the crap out of him way back in 1996 comic. He's a Bludhaven regular. Just because Dick forgot who he was doesn't mean anyone else forgot him. Amnesia doesn't work that way.

A whole team of Nightwings were formed during Dick's amnesic period because of how badly he was needed and missed. It's almost like the Tom Taylor run is set in an alternate universe.

I ran out of image space but what the absolute fiddlesticks is up with Dick being scared to jump. It better be a manipulation tactic but at this point I think Tom Taylor doesn't even know that Dick is manipulative.

When they say Tim Drake fanon stans are single handed the curse of this fandom this is what they mean. Constantly a Stan of a character they don’t understand, just want to woobify and baby. Apparently now Tim decides to kill because Bruce and Dick isn’t paying him enough attention of something💀 What is up with you people? Go read comics, instead of writing essays for characters you don’t even know.

Am AU where when Jason come back from the dead he recruits Tim instead of tries to kill him. Tim is the best hacker and is second to Barbra when it comes to surveillance and that’s mostly due to experience. It’s clear that Bruce is not appreciating the skill set of his new little bird, so Jason figured he might as well grab the kid before Bruce permanently ruins another kid.

Tim, fresh off of particularly harsh Bruce lecture and having been receiving the cold shoulder from Dick as well, runs into Red Hood who he almost immediately flags as his Robin and immediately accepts the offer. Tim hadn’t wanted to be Robin in the first place. Bruce was killing himself as Batman and if he ruined Batman then he also ruined Robin’s legacy and since Tim couldn’t save Jason while he was alive, then he would do everything it took to keep his memory alive now that he was dead.

Except Jason wasn’t dead he was in front of Tim, and wouldnt you know it, Tim has also suffered Exponentially at the hands of the Joker. Sure I can help you kill them.

Now we can go two ways here, both being equally enjoyable.

1) we follow the same or similar path. Jason becomes a crime lord stake his claim in crime alley and he and Tim come to an understanding on Batman not killing, why it’s important, and that they just kill the joker themselves. After this while things are tense, they still operate in Gotham.

2) Jason and Tim kill the Joker and decide to fuck out of dodge and essentially become a mercenary duo. Tim gets the info, Jason does the kills.

Additionally, do to shenanigans of your choice, Talia could choose to send Damian to Jason and Tim after the coup since Jason’s her pseudo so and technically still family.

He hasn’t been civilised in 4 years, his entire teenage experience consists of living on a boat and sleeping rough. The most stable bed he has was probably in Ba Sing Se he probably will just nap anywhere.

He has customer service experience which means he probably uses his customer service voice on his minsters.

Additionally he probably just wanders into to kitchen to get his own snacks and tea because he forgets what servants do.

He probably has no idea why he can’t just chase after an assassin he used to hunt the avatar for Agnis sake why is the captain of the guard demanding he stay in his room he’ll find the guy first (he’s probably right)

Katara probably has a free pass on Eco terrorism because what’s he going to do challenge her, she’ll beat his ass.

If he saw a minster doing something shady he will either invite lady Beifong to detect their BS or commit B&E and look for evidence himself.

He somehow found a baby dragon and raises it.

He will be far to willing to give Kyoshi island anything they want cause he feels bad and Suki scares him.

He randomly insisted on giving some earth kingdom village 100 ostrich horses.

The Avatar will just show up call him Hotman and demand the go on adventures and the Firelord will just dip because he’s been confined to long and has the Zoomies.

He takes far to much advice from Sokka and will genuinely believe if someone doesn’t get Sokkas plans they must be an idiot because Sokka is 16.

Sokka and Zuko also get into a lot of teenage rebellion phases by accident.

Toph just walks in breaks a wall of his palace and demands a field trip that always involves the Firelord having to explain himself to the cops.

He somehow knows every dangerous teen in the world and they all come for tea uninvited.

He has broken into both the NWT and Ba Sing Se.

He has a really well documented facial scar and official portraits but still disappears to be Lee the tea guy like no one knows.

Dying because I can't remember where this one specific panel of Roy is where I think he's telling the other Justice League members about something that Dick taught him. He was just like "Dick/Nightwing taught me" or something something. It's gotta be somewhere in Justice League of America Vol. 2. Maybe around the time when Roy lost his arm?
