RvB Rare Pair Week
With the departure of the old mod of @rvbrarepairweek from tumblr, we at fanvsfic have been given permission to take up the mantle of moderating this important fandom event. We hope it’ll be just as good as the years prior!
From May 10th to the 17th, we are celebrating rare pair ships of all shapes and sizes, encouraging writers and artists to create and share new content. With an end of event masterpost being compiled onto this blog, it’s a time to show off your hidden favourite- And maybe drag somebody else into shipping it with you.
As with previous years, please use the tag #rvbrarepairweek and put @fanvsfic into your posts so we can find and reblog them.
What’s A Rare Pair?
Using the same guidelines as under the past moderator, use your best judgment as to whether something’s rare or not. However, if you’re unsure, under 100 tagged fics on Ao3 is a good place to start, as well as looking around at what ships have been the fandom focus recently.
Do We Have to Create Fic?
While this is primarily a fic blog, for this event only we are allowing ALL fan content (fanart, fanmixes, gifs, graphics, etc.) for this, though they will not be tagged as stringently as we usually tag fic content on this blog.
What If I Don’t Have a Tumblr?
No need to panic! You can submit it directly to this blog, as well as post it to the Ao3 collection. We’ll link to it on the masterpost of works at the end of the event! Posting on Dreamwidth or Pillowfort? Drop autisticblueteam (on both of these sites) a message and point them to the link so they can also be added to the masterpost.
What Are the Guidelines?
Check out /rarepairweek page on this very blog for them. We will also reblog this post with a link. General guidelines still apply though; tag with consideration!

Indefinite Hiatus
I’m here today to announce that I will not be running another Rare Pair Week this year. This decision was not an easy one, but it comes for a variety of personal reasons including the fact that I’m no longer maintaining a personal presence on tumblr.
If anyone wants to run a similar event, on tumblr or anywhere else, I encourage you to do so! I’m even willing to share all my personal tips and tricks for running an appreciation week style fandom event–just ask! The best way to contact me is on dreamwidth, as I don’t regularly use tumblr anymore.
I want to give a huge thanks to everyone who has participated over the past three years. We’ve had three amazing RvB Rare Pair weeks because of all of you! If there is one thing I hope everyone can take from Rare Pair Week, if there is anything that sums up what it’s meant to me, it’s this: make that thing for the ship you love, no matter how rare. Write the fic, draw the fanart, compile the fanmix, share your headcanons; share your love for the thing you love, no matter how small or nonexistent you think the audience for it might be. You might be surprised! And it’s worth it because you love it.

Huge, huge thanks to everyone who came out and created something for this year’s RvB Rare Pair Week! We had more new works created than ever before in this event, and it’s all thanks to you and your passion and creativity.
I hope you’ve had fun creating for this celebration! I hope you’ve enjoyed some great fanworks created by others, and maybe found yourself some new ships along the way.
Most of all, I hope you’ve been encouraged to create something for the ships you love, no matter how rare they may be. I hope you carry that encouragement beyond this week, and know that if you love a ship or a character and feel inspired to create something--it’s worth creating. You’ll be glad you did--and you might just find someone else who loves it too.

anyways, i was gonna write a fic, but i got writers block and had sudden inspiration at three am, so heres some fanart instead! i decided to do my two favourite ships– locington and tucklix! both of them don’t have enough content, so i was glad to do my own!

Today for @rvbrarepairweek, I wrote a fic imagining the first time Locus meets Dr. Grey and how they bond over opera music.
Moderate tw for a gunshot injury and medical stuff but nothing is particularly detailed.
After days of amputations and hectic surgeries that often didn’t turn out for the best, treating a simple shrapnel wound was almost a letdown. But, Emily was the only doctor available to treat the mercenary, so she made her way down the hallway, whistling as she stepped into the room.
“Ooh, that one must have hurt,” she remarked, taking in the bloody mess that was her patient’s upper arm.
“I’ve hurt worse.”
“Alright, tough guy. We’ll get you cleaned up. Or not. And then we’ll have to lop it off.”
He simply grunted in response, while Emily viewed his info to make sure there wasn’t anything more to be aware of before treating him.
“Okay, Samuel Ortez? Can I call you Sam?”
“Locus.”
“Oh, you must be that mercenary guy everybody’s been talking about. Seems like you might not be worth it if you come in with this kind of injury.”
“Just fix my arm already. I can’t hold a rifle in this state.”
“Do you mind if I put on some music while I work? It keeps my hands steady,” Emily asked, and flipped on the player without waiting for a response. A high-pitched operatic voice filled the stale, hospital room and Emily started to hum along while preparing her tools.
“You… like opera?” Locus questioned quietly.
“If you have a problem with it, that’s too bad, because I’m not shutting it off.” She continued to hum.
“No, no, it’s fine. It’s just that I… also like opera. I listen to it to keep my hands steady too.”
“Oh.” Emily hesitated, observing in her patient as an actual person for the first time. It was easier to see them as abstract concepts, rather than real people in indescribable pain from which they would likely never be free. But this mercenary, Locus, tough and rugged, was stoic despite the fact that he’d refused anesthetic, losing himself in the music.
“I know your schedule must be pretty packed, what with all your mercenary stuff and the war and everything, but if you happen to be in the city tomorrow evening, one of Armonia’s top opera singers is going to be throwing a concert – or as much of a concert as she can manage in this chaos - and you should come with me.”
“Doyle has me leading a raid on a rebel base as soon as I’m fixed up.”
Emily thought for a moment, then punched something in on her monitor. “Well, in that case, it’s a shame you have to stay in hospital a little longer. Complications with the wound, so you’ll have to stay an extra day. Oh, darn,” she said with no sorrow in her voice.
When she turned back, the faintest smile was visible on Locus’ stony face.
“Now, tell me about yourself, Sam.” Emily grabbed a tweezers and began to remove shrapnel from his skin.
He didn’t wince from the pain nor her using his birth name. “I’d rather not.”
“Alright. Then we can just enjoy the music.”
“I would like that.”

Good Luck Being a Cop, Cop!
And lastly for @rvbrarepairweek but certainly not least, we have another Sister/Carolina fic. This time, Carolina is a cop that pulls Kaikaina over for speeding and is then inundated with flirting.
This week was a lot of fun and introduced me to a bunch of amazing ships I didn’t know I wanted until I saw them. Thank you for setting it up and organizing it!! <3
“Oh, fuck,” Kai muttered as she saw the cop car throw on its lights behind her. Just her luck. It’s not like she was going that fast. There was nobody else on the road, who cared if she was going twenty over the speed limit? Limits were for losers.
But, not interested in getting into an even higher speed chase, she slowed down and pulled over, rolling down her window and waiting to be reprimanded.
At least the cop was hot. Like, really hot. Kai had been ready to zone out while going through the proceedings. Yes, officer, I know I was speeding. Yes, officer, I’ll do better next time. Sorry, officer. Blah, blah, blah. The cop that came to her window, though, shook her out of her reverie.
“You know what else I can give you?” Kai asked with a raised eyebrow as she handed over her license and registration when prompted. “My phone number.”
“I’m sorry?”
“My phone number. So that you can contact me later.”
“It’s all in the system. Someone will be in touch with you to set up a court date, since this is your third violation in the last month.”
“No, no, no. Not for court, but for you and me. I know I like to live life in the fast lane, but I can take it as slow as you’d like.”
“Ma’am, I’m going to have to ask you to get out of the car.” The officer stepped back to allow Kai space to obey.
“Ooh, bossy. I like it.”
While the cop tried to keep her face stoic and present an annoyed demeanor, the slightest trace of a blush and a smile made it clear that Kai was getting through to her. It wasn’t about getting out of a ticket at this point; not that that wouldn’t be nice, but it was about getting with this gorgeous woman.
“Did I do something wrong, officer?” Kai asked once she was standing beside the cop, who was more than a head taller than herself.
“Yes, you did. You were twenty over the speed limit.”
“But why did I have to get out of the car?”
“So that I had time to figure out whether or not to chastise you for flirting with me or to give you my number.”
Kai’s eyes widened and she smirked. “You can do both. Tell me all the things I’ve done wrong.”
The blush that creeped into the officer’s face was almost as bright as her red hair. She scribbled something down on a notepad and handed the slip over to Kai.
“This is my number. Text me later. Not while you’re driving,” she added forcefully. She wrote out something else and handed it over as well. “And this is your ticket. You might get a date, but you’re still going to have to pay your fine.”
“Alright,” Kai sighed, then she perked up a moment later as she pushed the thought of the ticket out of her mind. “Ooh! When we meet up again later, bring those handcuffs, will ya?”
“We’ll see.”
“Bossy and vaguely mysterious. You are hitting all of the right boxes.”
“You’re free to go, Ms. Grif.”
Kai started to get back into her car, before calling back after the officer. “Hey! I didn’t get your name.”
“Call me Carolina.”
“It was really nice meeting you, Carolina.” Kai slammed the door and raced away from the chance encounter at an almost legal speed. She would be good and wait until she parked to text this Carolina. It’s not like she wanted to get into too much trouble with her… at least not yet.

For the end of @rvbrarepairweek I have two fics to post! Here’s the first, in an “everybody survived Freelancer and everything is fine” au, with some Wash/CT!
When CT opened the door to their apartment, she did not expect to see half a dozen kittens running around the place. However, that’s exactly what she saw, with Wash standing in the center, watching them and grinning.
“Wash!” She cried and shut the door behind her. “What did you do?”
“They’re kittens!”
“I can see that. We’re not allowed to have pets in this apartment. You know this; it’s the reason you haven’t adopted half a dozen cats before.”
He sighed. “I know. But I found them on the street, curled up in a box with a note that said, ‘Please take care of them.’ I couldn’t just leave them there, all alone.”
“We can take them to a shelter.”
“Or, hear me out,” Wash rebuked while scooping up a kitten that was diligently chewing on a couch cushion, “we could keep them.”
“What part of ‘no pets allowed in the apartments’ doesn’t make sense?”
“They’re not just pets, they’re defenseless little balls of fluff that need a safe home and lots of love.”
CT wanted to protest, but she couldn’t find it in her when she saw Wash’s face as he pet the kitten in his hands. Six kittens was a lot, but it’s not as if she wanted to get rid of them either.
They had bigger worries, though. Their pensions from the now defunct Project Freelancer weren’t great, and both had faced difficulties finding a steady job with their various traumas and skillsets. This was one of the few apartments they could afford in the city, so they’d had to accept its no-pet clause against what they (mostly Wash) had wanted.
When one of the kittens rubbed up against her leg before plopping down and immediately falling asleep on her foot, though, all of her arguments against keeping the cats vanished.
“I guess we can keep them.”
“We can?” Wash’s eyes were wide with expectation and joy.
CT nodded. “I couldn’t possibly drag you away from these little guys. We’ll just have to keep an eye out for another apartment, one that accepts pets. Because there’s no way we can keep this a secret for long.”
Wash carefully threaded his way across the small space, dodging the kittens to reach CT and give her a quick kiss. “Thank you.”
She grinned and rolled her eyes. “I’m sure you’ve named them already?”
“I have a couple ideas, but I thought we should do that together.”
“Alright. Let the kitten name brainstorm begin.”
