lately i've been thinking of columbina as a kind of fallen-seelie siren figure. like, seelies in genshin were said to have guided humanity, but if columbina is a seelie, she's likely been corrupted somehow, or fell from heaven. her title, "the damselette" (the damsel), invokes imagery of a beautiful woman, but also youth and innocence. we know from scara's voiceline abt her that she should be avoided, but "oblivious and innocent" and "unconcerned and unfeeling." she also has been shown singing in lazzo, so it can be assumed she has associations with song.

so basically, i think because she's a corrupted seelie, columbina guides ppl to their doom, rather than helping them. she appears innocent and harmless, but actually leads ppl to their demise. the closest literary parallel i can think of is the image of sirens, woman-like monsters whose voices lead men to their peril. this would fit columbina as a pretty, seemingly innocent, woman who is actually extremely strong and dangerous.

i think a lot abt the narrative parallels between navia and furina. both of them suffered so much. furina had to play archon for 500 yrs all alone and shoulder all the burdens of that and put on a facade for fontaine. navia lost her father, and melus and silver, and had to step up as the leader of the spina di rosula and put on a strong and brave face through her sorrow. but both furina and navia, despite this suffering, still choose to be happy, still choose to step up for the sake of other ppl, and dont let the pain stop them from seeing the beauty of the world

lyney, lynette, and freminet were betrayed by adults that should've been able to support them, but they're each other's family and keep each other safe and finding meaning through the work they do in the House of the Hearth

wriothesley had a really tough childhood and a super dark past but created a space where he and the other inmates in the fortress of meropide can live happily and move on from the past

navia lost her father and silver and melus (and clorinde temporarily sorta) but still chooses to be strong and carry out their legacy and not hold grudges and work towards building a better future

and furina suffered alone for 500 years all to save fontaine, was essentially betrayed when she was put on trial, and watched everything she worked towards fall apart as she was exposed as a fraud. despite this, she never stopped believing in the good of the world, and once she got out, confronted her anxieties and found a place in the world (directing) where she could be happy
