Hello everyone,

As most of you now know Santa Monica has officially closed. It breaks my heart to close this place, but everyone who knows me knows I’m not about to drag this place to a slow death. This has been mine and so many others home for almost a year now. It’s been a wild and fun ride. I’ve loved all the characters that we’ve seen over time and each one of them is so special to me.

As always this was a group decision to close this place. I’ve made it my mission to make this place a group effort, truly it always was. Every single person in this group mattered, they always will. Which is why I respected everyone’s opinions on this matter.

Don’t worry, this isn’t the end. It’s just a new beginning.

SANTA MONICA: EVENT #004 — CHARITABLE HEARTS

Watch out for Cupid’s arrow because it’s coming your way Santa Monica.

Presenting, Charitable Hearts. A week-long event, sponsored by several of Santa Monica’s local businesses. This engaging week is sure to be full of fun, entertainment, and, giving back. 

REMINDERS:

This event will start on Monday, February 3rd and go until Monday, February 17th. In roleplay time this will be a week long as well. Please note this event will take place from February 10th—February15th in roleplay time. 

The tag for the event will be santamevent4. Everything from pictures, outfits, threads, and etc all need to be under the tag. Starters should have both the santamstarter and santamevent4 tags.

Pairings/free for alls will be announced at Midnight EST every other night. Please check the main every other day so you can see your latest pairings if any.

We will have posts every other day letting you know what is happening for that event as well. Those will also be released at Midnight EST.

This event is NOT mandatory, but we do encourage you to participate. If you will be out for whatever reason or don’t want to be involved in pairings please let us know immediately.

Any big plots should be discussed with the admins before playing them out on the dash. If you have any big plots you want to do let us know.

Color Code; While there is not a strict color code there will be colors assigned to certain days/events. Please make sure to be reading the posts.

The brilliant staff over at Brenda’s Bakery have sponsored a night of intrigue with Layered in love! All the participants will be making cakes and selling them around the pier. For every cake solid the proceeds will go back towards different charity’s around Santa Monica. 

Wednesday: Treasure Your Heart

When: February 12th, 2020

Where: All around Santa Monica

What: Scavenger hunt/Treasure Hunt

Are you competitive? Does The Amazing Race have nothing on you? Well get ready to put your skills to work as you work around Santa Monica to collect different hearts, the winner will get bragging rights— but also to pick where $10,000 is donated for charity.

Are you feeling romantic? It’s time to grab someone and enjoy a nice dinner for two. All the meal prices and tips will be going towards the local food bank to make sure that everyone around Santa Monica has a warm meal.

BIOGRAPHY

Sebastian’s mother called him her own baby Cupid. So much about his existence was a miracle, and his mother would never let him forget that. Born on Valentine’s Day, to a dying marriage, his parents would attribute their briefly rekindled flame to Sebastian’s conception. Only, it wasn’t exactly simple to place the burden of a failing relationship on a small child. The Rotherams should have been happy. They had success in their careers, more money than anybody could ever need, and now, a darling baby- and yet, they still were not satisfied. The marriage lasted until Sebastian was five years old, and then it exploded. Sebastian’s world was thrown into turmoil, moved from house, to apartment, to hotel- caught in a custody battle that just never seemed to end. By the time Sebastian was eighteen years old, he was convinced that love was a fictitious concept that was devised only for commercial gain. Growing up, he did all he good to avoid romance, hiding away on his birthday to avoid any comments about the joys of being born on Valentine’s Day. In fact, it was his very hatred of all things related to love that sparked his passion. Even though his mother pushed for him to pursue a more academic career, to become a lawyer at his father’s firm, or a doctor like his mother- Sebastian felt much more at home in the world of the arts. He was inspired to create art that depicted much darker themes, to rebel against the romantics. It was also the hands of his overbearing mother that made him want to escape.

When he was given the opportunity to study Art at the Rhode Island School of Design, he jumped at the opportunity. Without hesitation, he got on the plane to America, and never once looked back. And as he had been in life before, he’d been mostly fortunate to live a smooth life. He graduated with honours, with the financial backing of his parents opened Rotheram Studios- and such was life, pursuing a passion and creating art pieces that depicted a sadness and desperation he’d never truly been privy to.

It was probably foolish of Sebastian to believe that life would always be that simple and easy. On his twenty second birthday, the world went dark. The doctors described told him what happened was  an arteriovenous malformation. A stroke. In less than ten minutes, everything was taken from him. When he eventually regained consciousness, the weight of the consequences crashed down on him. The room was cloudy, his limbs were heavy- but every sound was intense, and as the doctors explained that his prognosis was still uncertain- he felt every hope slip away. The likelihood that he’d regain movement in his limbs was quite high, though the chances of his sight returning were slim. Recovery was slow- agonisingly, and frustratingly slow. Physiotherapy was painful, and the constant reminder that he may never again do the thing he’d dedicated his life so far to was daunting. The pressure of life itself was heavy, and if he didn’t make a drastic change soon, he’d drive himself insane within those same four walls. So, he set himself a goal. If he could force himself, push himself, to regain most of his movement by the time his twenty-fifth birthday came around- he’d leave town. He’d get out of there, and start something new. With determination, and the hope of a new life, Sebastian pushed himself. Exactly two years after his accident, he could walk again with the help of a walking stick, and most of the movement in his hands had returned. Save for his sight, and a recurrent facial twitch, Sebastian almost felt like the man he used to be. With the help of Ida, his guide dog, he could live independently- and make plans to leave town. To be free again.

Sebastian found himself in Santa Monica. The beachside seemed like the perfect, refreshing environment for a new life. Though he may never be able to see the ocean again, to feel the sand beneath his feet, to hear the joys of the people on the beach- it was enough to make Sebastian feel like this would be home.

Background:

The two of them dated pretty steadily while Jasmine was at college in New York, whether or not he was at college too or they met elsewhere is up to you. They dated for about two years until she found out that he had been cheating on her for about six months and at that point she ended the relationship. However, once Jas cares about someone she finds it hard to cut them out of her life entirely and so while it took her a few weeks to get herself past the hurt and into a healthier place between the two of them, she’d have wanted to be back in his life. How much contact that they have had in the years since is up for discussion and how they ended up in Santa Monica is also utp! I generally see this as a pretty platonic relationship, at least on Jas’ side of thing because she doesn’t really believe in going backwards but I’m not entirely against them revisiting old feelings if the chemistry is there!
