You know why Mulder and Scully are such a good ship, why they've endured for so long? It's because they're written the way so many of these totally-not-gay on-screen male friendships are. They're both treated like complete people. They connect with each other in ways that matter. They show their devotion to each other by taking huge risks, making real sacrifices. When each of them is alone in a bad situation, the other is the first one they think of. They matter equally to each other and in the show. Their devotion feels real.

Most straight relationships I see in media are so shallow compared to that, so unconvincing. The male friendships are completely different. I believe - because I'm shown - that guys like Kirk and Spock, like House and Wilson, like Tom Paris and Harry Kim would turn the world upside down for each other, take enormous risks for each other, abandon everyone else for each other. I see what I don't see when those same male characters are around women, and what I do see between Mulder and Scully: actual love.

So yeah, I absolutely ship a ton of male pairings. Because I find it a lot more satisfying to ship characters when I can actually believe they love each other.
