Emily in Paris Season 2
Binge, binge and binge! No worries, I binged in moderation. So now, all that is left is binge on reviews I have been itching to write before the new semester begins for me. College is keeping me busy and it’s a good kind of busy because I love being back to studying (and no, I’m not a masochist).
Tumblr media
I am so thrilled to be back writing for a review for season 2 because I need a season 3 badly, as I am looking for ways to have that cliffhanger declared as illegal. Probably not a popular opinion, but my heart sank when Mathieu walked away like that and still not much of an Alfie fan but Gabriel is complicated bordering on a red flag, perhaps. Argh.
One of the things I really appreciate about the second season is that it seems to have more substance. I love learning more about Sylvie, Luc and a romance for Mindy! For me this series is all about light hearted fun so I don’t really get why it has to be criticized so much, now don’t even turn on me. I couldn’t help but cheer on Sylvie on her new love and it was a surprise to learn she actually has a husband! I haven’t even moved on from “My son will be having me”! While I was glad that she and Antoine were not an item for this season, I sort of sense a comeback? Please let there be a season 3 so I can look forward to something as I slave away for now.
I’m so proud of Mindy for having her own romance! I just hope Benoît can really get over the not poor couple after all, though they have kissed after Mon Soleil but I want them to make up quickly because they look and sound lovely together. And of course, Luc and Julien! I think Luc had a lot of moments in the series and I love how he would so subtly comfort and try to enlighten Emily. Not to be judgmental, but I honestly thought he and Julien were on the same level of being gay?! I half expected Luc to have an actual romance of his own somewhere along the series. And Julien! I knew him “stealing” the Pierre account would backfire but I think it was a blessing in disguise because Emily didn’t have to face Mathieu, at least for the time being. Julien is like that childish friend who still lets jealousy get in between friendship. I laughed so hard when Mindy and Julien found out  Benoît is straight after all because, I too, thought he wasn’t but had last minute doubts with the way he looked at Mindy!
Lastly, I really love how Emily has partially grown up. Workwise, I see that she learned to adjust and respect the French way of working except for the ‘no work on weekends’. Madeline’s arrival made me see the arrogance of an American the series had mentioned in the first season. It is only now that I got to compare the difference in their work ethic. Kudos to Emily for trying her best to make everything work for everyone and catering to them. I felt like a lightning hit me when Madeline called Emily her “little executioner” because the one likely to lose a lot more is Emily herself. I was reminded of the stories from my professors and a speaker for this Business org I am part of at Uni. because they had to go through a similar phase in their own work place partially because they’re women. I hate it how a woman’s toughness has to be proven by how cruel or heartless she can be in her work place. That aside, I also want to share my two cents on Emily’s romance! I admit to being team Gabriel because he’s so darn gorgeous but at this point, I really doubt if I would still be rooting for him. It seems to me that his bond with Camille would be hard to break because they know each other so well. I also got the vibe that those two would always revert back to each other like there’s some magnet pulling them. I don’t even blame Emily for entertaining other romantic prospects given that she’s trying so hard to do the “proper thing” while Gabriel seems to always be that temptation she has to go through every time. As for Alfie, well I’m not really feeling him but I admire how he transformed from that arrogant prat to someone actually considering a serious relationship with our heroine. I can’t believe how daft he was with the Gabriel-Camille thing. He does have my sympathy though for looking like some lovesick school boy or whatever. I expected more from the character like sweeping Emily off her feet or a moment which would actually make my heart flutter for them. I would not mind a new love for season 3 though, I’m looking for someone who would have a stronger effect because for me, Mathieu had that so maybe him or someone similar.
I really enjoyed binging on season 2 on an early morning just like I did for season 1 which was totally unplanned. The long wait was worth it and I am still willing to wait for season 3! Please come before I turn 30! Overall, I love the growth of the characters along with the work issues dealt with. AND I can’t stop listening to Ashly Park’s Mon Soleil, I need help.

Year-end with Arashi
December 31, 2020. A last post before the year officially ends and another opportunity to fangirl over my beloved group. I am overflowing with gratitude and my mind has been all over the place from my excitement towards tonight’s concert: This is ARASHI LIVE 2020. It could be the last they will ever hold but this is also my first participation in their live. I am just thoroughly happy I even get this chance to be with them. I am over the moon just thinking about it and knowing these guys existed in my generation! I’m one of the poorer fans so it was difficult to keep up with their contents until they opened to the digital world but I always had them in my heart. Arashi was just a faraway dream who made me smile whenever I thought of them so I did not dare hope for more. Now it feels like they are standing before me with their hands stretched out to me (virtually) so I can’t really contain the feels. I remember working on some props for a class play last year and because Arashi was already on Spotify, I just spent my whole afternoon working and bopping to their songs! Although we never got to perform the play because a teacher hated our class and sort of blocked it, it was still a precious memory for me. The fact Arashi was with me during that time, I can still smile to myself. With the Twitter hashtags going on, I sort of feel that words are not enough to thank these guys I still want them to know at least through my words that I am thankful for their existence. I do know that even they were surprised with the surge of love they have been receiving, and I love seeing how flustered they are because they never expected it. That alone shows their humility despite them joking around with their juniors about their achievements. I don’t want them to feel sad or guilty about this hiatus, so hopefully they really don’t feel that way. The past year has been difficult but the love and fan service Arashi has showered us with was enough to ease the hardship. All I could see was their light shining so brightly and hearts all over the place. I want to say goodbye with a smile even if they won’t see me but I feel like my New Year’s Eve will be full of tears with a smile. Whatever happens, I will always be a fan, what’s 14 years if I won’t even stay? They kept their promise to be five and stayed five regardless even if it meant a hiatus. Their love and loyalty towards each other is the greatest thing I have ever seen which made my heart ache and beat even stronger for them at the same time. See you again, Ohno, Sho, Aiba, Nino and Jun! Ja ne!

More than Friends review eps 9-16
I previously posted my review of the first half of the series because I could not contain what I felt. It was quite impulsive of me but I wanted to let out everything I thought and felt for this drama. It is becoming better every time in such a way that I see the little creative ideas the writer or director is putting into each episode along with the development of the story. Familiar yet refreshing. I decided to create a new post because I saw that the first half recap was way too long if I would still add the remaining episode reviews because I just could not help it. I do understand that the length could be frustrating but I want my words to be read too, so thank you for everyone patient enough to read my words.
Tumblr media
Episode 9 - Watching this episode made me realize a double standard I never really noticed before but I guess drama watchers would be able to relate to; the difference of pitiful and pathetic for female and male leads. I’m not yet certain if it’s deliberate but female characters locked in one sided love often seem pathetic but when it’s a male character they seem pitiful? Woo Yeon did seem pathetic in her one sided love in the earlier episodes so why does Soo get to be pitiful? It’s the same for the past dramas I’ve watched too. It’s just a food for thought. Based on last week’s preview, I really thought Joon Soo would punch Lee Soo after the drunk call but he held back so good job, Joon Soo. Honestly, I thought he wouldn’t be able to hold back because not only was he angry of the fact that Woo Yeon was getting swayed by Soo, but also because he knew how much it hurt, and hates the fact that she would still be hurt over the latter after a decade. This is why I keep wanting Joon Soo because he never thought selfishly when it came to Woo Yeon. I also love the fact that his character is being shown as someone seemingly perfect with a lot of flaws too. I love seeing his flaws and even relating to them! Being used to holding back is probably the reason why I write so much because I swear I can’t talk this much at all. I really hope he would stop holding back for his own sake. I think the most favorable Soo I have ever seen was him drunk calling his dad. I love the fact his parents went to his house to talk and console him. I also realized that Soo really closed himself up enough to have no one but his dad to drunk call. That was sad because the high school gang never really shunned him but he was the one who kept his heart closed. I half expected his folks to announce that hey would be back together because I feel that’s where those two are headed to eventually. As for Woo Yeon, I’m somehow glad she mustered up the courage to break up with Joon Soo after everything. As much as I was dreading it, I also felt that it was the right decision. She knew that it was too cruel to let him hurt quietly so I’m glad she had that decency; I could see that she was doing her best to be firm with her resolve. On her behalf, I get it why it’s difficult for her to let go of her feelings for Soo so I do not think she’s a weird one for that. I know that this is where my ship stops its sail but I’m satisfied that it’s not as I feared it would. The fight scene was reminiscent of Jealousy Incarnate, I just hope Dong Jun faked the punch because I know how athletic he has been from his Idol days which is enough for me to be scared for Seung Woo. Conveniently, it was only after this that Soo decides to take a break from pursuing Woo Yeon after ruining her chance to start anew with someone. Eventually, I know that Woo Yeon would not be able to defy the flow of her feelings towards Soo but I hope he can also grow up more because right now, I can still see him being selfish and self centered in his approach.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 10 - How can one episode contain so much emotions? And it was all types of emotions at that! I mean one moment it’s awkward, cute, upsetting, lovely, funny then sad and even more! This episode was a roller coaster of emotions in my opinion. First thing’s first, the younger guy Jinju dated is a total loser and a scumbag. Good thing Sang-hyeok was there to the rescue. I feel so bad for Young-hee because every time she takes a step forward, she’s always dragged two steps back. She has a strong personality but it does not mean her situation does not wear her down too. So here comes the roller coaster because Lee Soo and On Joon Soo drinking together and ending up at Woo Yeon’s place is super cute. That includes her parents’ “interview” with the two men while they try to show off their “qualities”. I literally said “boom” when Joon Soo “let slipped” that Soo was the jerk Woo Yeon’s parents have been hunting for. That was really petty but I guess it’s his little revenge on Soo for interrupting their relationship when he used to date Woo Yeon. I am not going to lie about not loving the misunderstanding Soo had when he saw them together in the restaurant while he was with his parents. He tends to act so victimized which I really dislike then he readily blows up at Woo Yeon. But then again, it makes these characters more human then the usual kdrama characters I watched in the past. Lee Soo should really learn to express things more clearly so Woo Yeon would stop thinking that he’s simply bored or fooling around. As for Joon Soo, it’s a lost battle and I feel bad for him because he has become a masochist which is why I need to take care of him. I need Woo Yeon’s cooperation for this...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 11 - Soo is finally given the chance he keeps on missing. As much as I am sad for my ship, I’m happy Woo Yeon and Soo are coming around although it isn’t the full circle yet. I do feel really bad for Joon Soo but it has always been clear how strong Woo Yeon’s feelings have been for Soo. I like how she at long last clearly stated that she will always give Soo the chance whatever he does because it has been evidently true for the past episodes. I guess that’s enough proof that feelings can’t be controlled easily. My favorite part in this episode would be her giving Soo an ultimatum because I always had a feeling he thought of her as a port always there for him. My second favorite in this episode would be Sang Hyuk and Jinju! He’s so sweet and caring which is exactly what she needs. Will they be my favorite couple? Hehe. I just want to take a bit of time to swoon over Joon Soo because he cares a lot for Woo Yeon though it isn’t returned, I appreciate him wishing her well. I can’t help but wonder if there will be another drama between Woo Yeon and Soo, because if he hurts her one more time then I would prefer her to be alone (I’ll be taking Joon Soo.)
Tumblr media
Episode 12 - I never thought Soo and Woo Yeon together would be this mushy haha. They are making up for the lost time and I like seeing them happy and somewhat letting go of the inhibitions they had. And for the first time, I think I want to scold the writer for adding a character like Yura because seriously, those two no longer need another person to interrupt them. I suppose it’s to make up for the remining episodes? But then it could be expound on things like commitment issues for Woo Yeon and Soo, and taking the next step for their relationship. I do secretly hope for Joon Soo to make a comeback but not necessarily in a romantic light. Obviously, Soo is the one being careful now when it comes to dealing with Woo Yeon. I like seeing him nervous of losing her because it keeps him on his toes though I hope he would be more direct about it instead of acting cool so she won’t misunderstand anymore. I remember him saying he dated around too but Woo Yeon seems more like the one used to dating. I guess he never really thought of the other party when dating. I can sort of imagine his ex-girlfriends putting more effort than him.
Tumblr media
Episode 13 - Lol, Soo should’ve been more sensitive when Woo Yeon insisted on going home by herself. I find it so cute when she defended Soo from her parents, she was so cheeky to point out her dad’s faults. After everything they have been through I hope they can do well from now on but something tells me otherwise. At least Woo Yeon finally said the magic words Soo has been so anxious to hear. It seems she was too nervous and being careful to say it though I had the initial impression that she must’ve had a stigma of some sort to those three words. I somehow feel nervous about Soo’s job offer from the airline because it might lead to a fight or even a break up. Speaking of a break up, I’m sad Hyun-jae and Young-hee had to part ways though it was one-sided. I do get the pov of his family but I can’t relate to the pressure of marriage. By the way, am I the only one who thinks Kwon Yura’s character is waste? I mean I don’t see much purpose for her character because she does not threaten the main lead’s relationship other than making Woo Yeon want to doll up herself. I must say one of my favorite scenes in this episode is when Woo Yeon went to the salon and told the staff she’s meeting with her boyfriend’s woman. I love how the customers and salon staff reacted even calling in their boss to style her. Was it a parody? I’m not sure because I have sworn to lay my hands and eyes off all dramas that deal with a husband’s mistress. Nevertheless, it was super witty and I had a lot of fun watching that scene including the one where she deliberately posed further behind Yura to make her face look smaller. Lastly, Sang-hyeok and Jinju are finally together! They look so cute together and make the perfect couple. In fact, all three couples seem to be perfect for each other because they complement each others’ personalities well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 14 - This must be the episode where everyone breaks up or gets rejected. But before that, I can’t get over the expression Woo Yeon’s mom wore when she said to pack up contraception for her trip with Soo. One minute they were having a lovely mother-daughter moment then she suddenly brings that up. As much as most people would find it awkward, I think it was so funnily straightforward. Her mom cares which suddenly reminds me of the reaction of Young-hee’s mom when she found tons of condoms in her drawer. Another reaction I really enjoyed was when Woo Yeon and Soo found out Jinju and Sang-hyeok are dating! The way she splashed water out of shock really showed how it was the farthest thing in her mind. From the time Soo’s work offer came, it already seemed ominous along with Woo Yeon’s offer so I was not surprised with the break up. Maybe it was for the better; I have been mulling over Woo Yeon’s reasoning that she might end up hating Soo if they stayed together. The loneliness was eating her up which I believe is realistic in a long distance relationship like theirs. Soo shouldn’t have readily agreed regardless if he was thinking of her or not. Considering these two pursued their careers, I think this would leave less regrets in their hearts because they were able to fulfill the dreams they had. Their feelings for each other will always be there because they are Soo and Woo Yeon. I just need to wait how they will get back to each other.
Tumblr media
Episode 15 - While watching this episode, I couldn’t stop thinking that this is the episode I finally see Lee Soo as someone heartbroken and not self centered, also, am I the only one who thinks his hair styled up is way better than his hair down? At last, I got to see Soo’s feelings of longing for Woo Yeon instead of his attitude of forcing his feelings like earlier into the series. I think it’s his maturity plus his sincerity in wanting her back because he now knows how it is to lose her. Their break up might just seem like another ploy by the writer to extend the series but I also think it was helpful to both Woo Yeon and Soo. In the first place, they decided to be apart so their careers could flourish which made them busy and drift apart. It also brought to light the insecurities they had especially Woo Yeon who had been so used to be the only one who in love. I think her fears of having the person she loved and wanted the most surfaced which keeps her from returning to him even if he’s practically begging her back. I just hope Soo would’ve made efforts to contact Woo Yeon or get her back after that break up call just as he was when he was courting her instead of stepping back. I guess it was partly a good thing because they were able to achieve certain things for their careers during that time too. Meanwhile Young-hee’s mom’s death was inevitable but at least they got to resolve the hard feelings and she was able to convey her love for her children. I think among the deaths I’ve seen in kdramas, this is the most touching for me. I must really be getting old to be sentimental like this. I also felt envious of the leads’ friendship. This episode showcased it the most especially how they supported Young-hee through the most difficult time in her life. I also love how they quietly support the complicated relationship of Soo and Woo Yeon. They have never attempted to kill him so yup they are good people.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 16 - Loose strings are tied up in a pretty bow as the friends gear up for each of their happy endings. Joon Soo decides to let go of his feelings for Woo Yeon (he’s finally free to walk towards me! Yay!) I really like their hug because it sums up the affections and friendship they had. Good thing Soo wasn’t there to tear them apart. I also like that Soo is still a bit jealous of Joon Soo because whenever I remember how arrogant he was about stealing Woo Yeon away, I still want to punch him. His mom’s pushing aka guilting Woo Yeon was indeed effective, heh. Seriously though, it seems to me that his mom did it because she did not want him to end up like his parents and perhaps it was her way of making up for their negligence and mistreatment of him. I love the fact that Soo and Woo Yeon continued to fight and make up even after getting back together, it was very much in their character. It’s also nice that Soo’s parents decided to give their relationship another shot. It makes me think that they too learned from their son. Jinju’s and Sang-hyeok’s wedding pictorial was super lovely, it was very smart of them to trick Soo into it haha. Young-hee and Hyun-jae are finally back together too! Thank goodness, they’re getting married instead of returning to dating. As much as I cringed with their cheesiness, it was very much welcome and cute to watch. All six of them had their own cringey and cheesy way of saying and doing things. I think this drama has one of the most satisfactory endings ever, now, if only On Joon Soo can find his way to me...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
More than Friends has met the amount of romance and tension that I always look for yet refreshing and not too cliché. I love the little details and the way it explored different types and stages of relationships including of different age groups. I hope other viewers would also get to see how the writer tried to portray these in the drama. Watching the ending made me realize the drama’s title was probably referred to these couples because they started as friends and became more than just that. Honestly, their situation is quite idealistic but I think it’s so cute if it does happen in real life. I’m happy I watched this even if it was mainly for Kim Dong Jun. Literally before watching this, I watched Moment of Eighteen then even prior to that, I watched Meow, The Secret Boy. MoE was sad because Junwoo had to put off his dreams and relationship to help out his mom. I initially wanted to skip or wait till later to watch it but ended up being hooked to it. Hehe.
Tumblr media
One of the things I find fascinating in this drama is the casting! Shin Ye Eun’s step mom in MTSB became her actual mom while her dad became Lee Soo’s dad this time. There lots of familiar faces which made me like the drama even more.

Arashi  - 21st Anniversary
Tumblr media
Today marks Arashi’s Hawaii performance also considered as their debut; today also is their Arafes 2020 which I can’t be part of unfortunately so I’ll be looking forward to a DVD perhaps. Supporting Arashi from afar has been difficult especially with the ban on digital media. It was hard to reach them and I had to make do with what I can afford and find for free on the web. I also watched several dramas and films the members where in. A little fun fact though is that my tumblogs were coined from my love for Arashi and SS501. Until this day I have never changed it as my form of loyalty to these groups who first gave me happiness and reason not to wallow in sorrow. This year, with the lift of ban on digital contents and the fan service Arashi has been doing due to the pandemic, I can not help but feel grateful and loved by them. To me, they are the greatest Idols who ever existed. Despite everything, they literally lived for their fans, they spoiled us with concerts never seen before. Although I have only watched them through DVDs, no one...and I mean NO ONE can do a concert the way they do. They were the complete entertainers crossing borders leaving me to think what exactly has Arashi not done yet? They not only lasted for 21 years but also remained on top breaking records and pushing their own limits. Any aspiring and existing Idol should look up to these men because they are the personification of what an Idol is to the point of even sacrificing their personal relationships. I’m so glad Nino is married and wish him a happy marriage life with all my heart. They worked so hard and yet they feel they have not done enough. I was beyond ecstatic when I heard about their Netflix documentary because it meant getting to know them. I never thought I would appreciate them even more after watching each episode.
Tumblr media
To be honest, I was very upset when the interviewer from billboard dared to ask a question comparing Arashi and Jpop to Kpop. I am fans of both, but Kpop would never come into fruition if it was not for Jpop which will always be a fact. Of course, I am not obliged to elaborate that fact lest it might cause a misunderstanding. Thankfully, MJ is such a gentleman and answered the question gracefully while using facts. No wonder I love him.
Tumblr media
Lastly, seeing this on the lyric video of Party Starters was the best moment in my Arashi fan life. With Arashi’s hiatus and uncertain return, I will keep this in my heart and memory. I now know that even if they seemed so far away, they were  always looking and they actually saw their fans more than we thought. Thank you for never breaking my heart. Thank you for bringing me happiness. Thank you for looking. Thank you for reaching out. Happy 21st Anniversary (I swear this is already a marriage!)

More Than Friends episode 1 - 8 review
Initially, I was not planning to watch this drama for my usual petty reasoning that I don’t like the actors. However, Kim Dongjun was just too darned irresistible so here I am writing a review, admitting my defeat. My less biased self has acknowledged that a decent dram is worth watching. Since the quarantine began, I’ve been on a constant search for romance themed dramas that would actually make my heart beat the way k-dramas did when I was a kid. It is the main reason why my reviews are mostly along those lines. As much as I want to watch When I was the Prettiest, I’m simply not in for melodramas nowadays.
Since I’m writing this review as I watch each episode, I’ll be doing a per episode review so this is going to be lengthy. I’ll be adding the other episode reviews on this post until the drama ends.
Tumblr media
Episode 1 - Everything started from their high school days. Honestly, Kyeon Woo Yeon is reminiscent of the senior high school life my and my sister had. We became the villains for trying to be kind. I like the friendship the characters developed. The first episode has laid a good foundation of backstories and what is more to come. Soo and Woo Yeon’s friendship may have started as platonic but it is also something that can obviously become more than that. I assume Soo is too young to actually realize his won feelings for Woo Yeon. It seems like she’s really the only one he considers a friend given that he hasn’t really opened up to anyone else other than her. Knowing the premise of the story beforehand makes me think that he’ a jerk but I also want to be a bit more objective for his character. Oh and I love how Jinju listened to her mom with a Jo in Sung reward in her mind. Heh, while her mom may have just lied to her but it was enough to motivate this poor girl. Heck, even I would have been motivated by that but most guys my age are just effed up. I can’t wait for On Joon Soo!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 2 -  So we start off from where I’m beginning to realize Soo is a bigger jerk than I assumed. While I do understand that he had issues because of his parent’s selfish divorce, I just feel that he should be more considerate of Woo Yeon’s feelings if he even saw her as a friend at all. I am used to his narcissism especially with his words, but I just want him to at least try to think from her perspective. Woo Yeon may seem whiny and a bit irritating but she’s simply someone hopelessly in love with her best friend who only rejected her coldly without trying to sound nice about it. What’s worse is that he wants to keep her as a friend despite it all! So yes, I am still waiting for On Joon Soo! Woo Yeon’s little encounters with him are quite cliché but cute. His eyes seem so cold which makes me think that he’s a nice guy but scary when he gets angry. Damn, I could not take my eyes off whenever he’s onscreen!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 3 - I’ve been really excited for this episode because this is where everything kicks off! There’s also a bit more storyline for the other friends which are also enjoyable to watch. There’s also more to Lee Soo’s story and his own scars (which I still think does not excuse his treatment of Woo Yeon) so it provides viewers with more of his perspective. It is evident that he is also beginning to realize the type of feelings he has for Woo Yeon. I still think of him as selfish for all that, I also feel that the only reason he might be acting that way is because he fears her not being around him whenever he wants her to be there. As they say, having your cake and eat it too. But he needs to be clear about it fast because she’s becoming more serious about moving on from him and her world is becoming bigger. I want Soo to feel more threatened and jealous since I know they will end up together anyway so he should at least suffer more than she did. On Joon Soo has some stories up his sleeve too which I hope to see more. It would be too unfair if he’s just there to make feel nervous about loosing Woo Yeon, right?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 4 - I love how honest and straight forward my On Joon Soo is! Yup, I’m claiming him once Woo Yeon rejects him. It is refreshing that he knows about Woo Yeon and Lee Soo early on which saves me from some dramatic cliché of not knowing about it till the end. Joon Soo is making an impact pretty quickly even though Woo Yeon isn’t too keen about it as of the moment but he seems to be making her smile unbeknownst to her. This drama’s storyline isn’t something very new, in fact it is quite simple but it’s also giving clichés a refreshing take which I really like. I’m reminded of Discovery of Love and this might just beat that one. Soo has come to really feel the threat Joon Soo brings, his talk with his dad was a wake up call which I hope he can take. I’m starting to think that he can actually learn from his parents’ mistake if he cares to look. For now, he is just a whiny kid whose toy is about to be taken away. I might as well mention a bit of Young-Hee and Hyun-Jae’s relationship; his mom is a total hypocrite! These two should find more balance in their relationship and not seem like a dom and sub most of the time.
Tumblr media
Episode 5 - Soo clearly denied having feelings for Woo Yeon! I honestly thought by now, he would be done hesitating but instead he keeps confusing her and being jealous. Meanwhile being straightforward is Joon Soo’s card. He does not hesitate to say he likes Woo Yeon so I hope he stays that way even if he gets jealous over Soo. This is a precious moment for Woo Yeon to see someone else other than Soo in a romantic light. I do get she’s hesitant because of lingering feelings and all but I also want to give herself a real chance to like someone else which makes me happy with this episode’s development. Finally, they also get to talk more about her pain in liking him one-sidedly, she’s being clear about how difficult it was for her but then Soo only prefers to look at the good memories. He’s being unfair especially when he decided to intrude in her date with Joon Soo only to embarrass her out of his jealousy. I must say Jinju is such a sweetheart for helping out Woo Yeon just in time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 6 - Just as Soo is beginning to realize his love for Woo Yeon, it seems like fate is keeping them apart for a little longer. I must agree that timing is essential in our actions, whether in love or other decisions we make. I think I’ve missed a lot of chances my self but I don’t want to dwell o it but instead, work harder on things that I can work on. I’m still swooning over Joon Soo’s confession which I did not expect at all because he has been vocal enough about wanting to date Woo Yeon. I’m loving a lot of things in this episode like the first fight among our female trio who finally gets a few things out of their chest about each other. There’s also Young Hee finally thinking if she’s being too much with her tough girl act. I mean even she used to buy shoes for Hyun Jae so she really should try to understand him more. He wants her to rely on him too not just in monetary things but to actually talk about her problems too. She can learn to share her burdens bit by bit too. I also like the fact that Woo Yeon decided to give Soo one last chance. I think this time around, it would be harder form him to win her feelings back. Regardless of his accident, it is true that he had realized his feelings quite late. It is also a fact that Woo Yeon has been hurt several times by him. As he said so himself, understanding does not make it hurt less. My ship is beginning to sail so I’m really happy and full of spazzing here. I want to see more sweet moments between Joon Soo and Woo Yeon because they deserve to be happy with each other after being hurt by their first loves. Dong Joon’s eyes are so expressive, I need to be saved, the way his expression changes from that sunshine to that cold hard and serious face gives me such tension. The narrative towards the end of this episode was really nice. I thought Soo’s accident would not be shown due to filming constraints but it seems the director and writer had something in mind, and made a narrative out of it to corelate it to essence of timing.
Tumblr media
Episode 7 - Joon Soo and Woo Yeon are finally together! I’ve been swooning over their dates, I hope they can stay that way longer. I want them to get to know each other more so they won’t have regrets later on. I must admit it’s gratifying to see Soo suffer this time around. This is his consequence for thinking that Woo Yeon would be always beside him. While I do know he is sincere with his feelings for her, he had hurt her too many times for so she deserves to be happy this time around. Even if her feelings for Joon Soo does not equal what she felt for Soo, it is the former who makes her happy in the present and showers her with the love she deserved from the start. It was unfair enough to be dragged around by Soo during all those years while he rejected her and insisted they remain friends so I don’t really get why he acts all pitiful now. Oh and I prefer his hair styled up than down. I like that Woo Yeon has come to understand where she stands in terms of her feelings for Soo. She acknowledged the fact that she was partly at fault for continuing to harbor feelings for him despite the constant rejection. I’m loving the details in this drama such as the person Woo Yeon bumped in to at the airport when she was on her way to confess for the first time turned out to be Joon Soo. Also the fact that he hesitated in his own confession was because he saw her get rejected straightaway. I sort of guessed this much because there was an emphasis during that scene in the first episode which I almost forgot until this episode. Then there’s Jinju’s possible love prospect and the extra emphasis when she bought milk tea for the sunbae who “cares too much about health.” But then he seems so young! I personally ship her with Sang Hyeok; he seems like the type of guy who will take good care of her and be her comfort after a hard day’s work. I love it that Young Hee and Hyun Jae are actually making a progress in their ten year relationship. I’m loving these two a lot especially now that Young Hee is making an effort to open up to him about herself and what is happening to her. They’re actually my favorite couple in this drama since I keep wanting to have Joon Soo for my self.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 8 - The previous episode’s ending got me really nervous because I don’t want Joon Soo and Woo Yeong to break up so soon. I did not want him to get hurt that way too because he does not deserve it. Obviously, their relationship is not stable enough with Soo in the picture, and Joon Soo is very anxious of it. I want his to be more vocal about his feelings of jealousy and anxiety but he probably just want to show Woo Yeon his good qualities lest it drives her away. However, I keep having the impression that Joon Soo fears the idea of loosing the girl he likes more than anything else. I suppose it is because of his experience with his first love but it seems that this fear is overpowering his feelings for Woo Yeon. His secretary/ friend’s advice also struck a chord with me because I know they will not end up together. In this episode, I think I have confirmed my suspicion about him being the type who is scary when angered. It was evident that his patience has been running thin in trying to keep his jealousy under wraps especially when he got pissed with Soo’s informal way of speech. It wasn’t something most people would appreciate which reminded me of the reactions actor Joo Won received from his seniors due to his informal speech. Soo was really a jerk for letting his jealousy overtake him to the point of causing Woo Yeon to be embarrassed in front of their friends and her boyfriend. I hope he can take a step back for awhile instead of constantly shaking up Woo Yeon with his own feelings. He owes it to her to let her be happy even if it meant with someone else. Young Hee’s advice about letting Woo Yeon go was right especially when she pointed out that Woo Yeon liked him for a third of his lifetime. How can I not love her more? It’s so nice to see that she and Hyun Jae has come to terms where their relationship stand instead of getting overwhelmed by the pressure to get married immediately. Please don’t let them break up ever! Next week’s episodes will be more intense so I am excited and dreading it at the same time. Just why is this drama flying by so quickly?

Emily in Paris Review
FYI, this is my first time to write a review for an American TV series. I decided to do this because I was thoroughly fond of the series and cannot wait for a season 2 already! While I am not new to American series, I just felt that this one is worth writing about.
Tumblr media
Prior to watching this, I had a week’s worth of re-watching Gossip Girl with my Netflix marathon partner, my younger sister, we also sat out through the 10 episodes of Emily in Paris on a lazy Saturday morning. The 5-hour marathon was no where near boring and the roughly half hour episodes were perfect.
My younger sister is a huge Lily Collins fan and she was the one who coerced me to watch this, all she had to say were the magic words such as: Paris and pretty dresses. My mom also came to me asking about the series because she read on the newspaper that it is from the makers of Sex and the City which she loved to watch but I was not allowed to because I was barely 10 years old then, and early bed time for school was just the perfect excuse to keep me away.
The story was pretty fast paced and the episodes were just the perfect length. I was easily drawn to the series particularly because of Emily’s work in the Marketing field which I became interested in, given that I am a Business major student. Also she reminds me a bit of myself with her very welcome experience in Paris. It was obvious she did not expect that there would be cultural differences and was overenthusiastic but how she dealt with it was admirable. The arrogance she emulated stemmed from her ignorance was indeed a problem so it was delightful to see her grow from that somehow. Thankfully, she found friends outside of her work which is proof that Emily was not the problem exactly. Another point to be thankful I suppose would be her break up from her boyfriend, who could not stand a long distance relationship. That just made her life...spicier.
I also like Mindy’s character a lot and her journey to finding what she actually wants to do. It was very sweet of her Chinese friends to accept her despite knowing what she’s been up to in Paris after getting cut-off by her parents. And when they pushed her to sing on stage and redeem herself from her Chinese Pop Idol blunder. I like her voice a lot. She is the exact type of friend I would want for myself though I would have to think hard before following most of her advice.
Sylvie. I really think Antoine is in love with her from the fact that they haven’t given up on each other yet and his wife does know. I’m just confused when the latter said Emily is more of a perfect match to her husband but i assume that with a younger mistress, the wife can always make excuses that it’s because she is younger and etc. unlike Sylvie who is in her age group therefore making the affair seem like out of love and not just lust. Sylvie is a strong woman and I understand the walls she has built around herself especially towards Emily.
Julien and Luc may have been unwelcoming and a bit bitchy but I really like how they changed getting to know Emily more. I guess the phallus shaped bread with cream on the tip really made the amends quicker. They are actually funny. I’m happy I’m no longer too prude to appreciate them.
Gabriel...the fact that he’s a chef is already a huge turn on but then he is/was committed and his girlfriend became Emily’s friend too. He is gorgeous though and the omelet pan for a parting gift earned him a hundred points (in my heart.) I still ship him and Emily but hopefully with less complications.
Paris as a backdrop just makes everything seem nicer already but the peek to the French ways was a huge bonus. We mostly see Paris being romanticized a bit too much on the screens so it was refreshing to see how they actually do things. I must admit, I was quite surprised with the 10:30am call time for work and extended lunch hours. I wonder what time school starts there? In senior high school I had to be in school before 7 in the morning or I would have to pick up trash and I was required to attend a morning Mass once a week which requires me to be in school by 6! That aside, Emily’s love life was also fun to watch, and squeal worthy especially when she got the wrong brother *wink*. She really proves a point in being single has its perks.  Also I did not expect the Gossip Girl references in the series because I just had a marathon of it; I think I just became even more an anti-Dan after the 6 seasons.
Once again, I am waiting for season 2 which I know would be really hard given the pandemic but I am willing to wait. The half an hour per episode is perfect so I hope it gets to stay that way.

Hana Nochi Hare: Hanadan Next Season
Tumblr media
A lot of years have passed since I last picked up a J-dorama; in fact, I’m not even sure if Zankai Girl was the last I watched or Shitsuren Chocolatier! I would usually watch Japanese dramas if an Arashi member, Ryo Nishikido, Yamapi, Oguri Shun or Ikuta Toma was in it which made it harder for me to decide which dramas to watch. I was less finicky when it came to movie actors though considering I have watched tons recently, and also became a fan of Takeru Satoh ever since I saw him on Rurouni Kenshin and in person.
News of this Boys Over Flowers Season 2 came during my first year in senior high school but I was too occupied with school to watch. Heck I had to give up the opportunity to see Penn Badgley in person because I had a test for Statistics and Probabilities the next day! Currently I’m taking a break from college due to the pandemic so I can binge on all the dramas, animes and mangas I want for now. It was actually Kaguya Sama: Love is War that lead me to finally watch Hanadan, mainly because I got curious about Sho Hirano. He played the role of Shirogane Miyuki in the live action film and I thought he isn’t a bad actor so why not check out his dramas. I was really surprised to learn he is a member of King & Prince because I never really paid attention to the Johnny’s idols who debuted after Hey! Say! Jump and Kis-My-Ft2. I was too hung up on the Golden Era of the Johnny’s trainees that it became difficult to accept the younger generation of idols and actors in the Japanese entertainment scene. I have always been curious about Hanadan and realizations about the current Japanese entertainment scene gave me a wake up call. My standards were left too high, and I got stuck there so it was a good thing be woken up because it made me less judgmental. It is for this reason that I was able to enjoy watching this drama without setting expectations.
Tumblr media
I binge watched it with a break of five hours of sleep before finishing off the remaining five episodes. It left me with a heart full of warmth. Finally, I found another drama which gave me a hundred percent satisfaction (except, I believe Oto and Hartuto deserved a kiss scene in the last episode). I was totally floored because I could not help but think this is exactly how I would write a drama if I became a drama writer! I love how the story felt similar yet different from the Hana Yori Dango of Jun Matsumoto and Inoue Maou. I love the fact that Oto and Haruto became friends despite the growing romantic feelings they had for each other. I also love that Oto tried her best to stay with Tenma till the very end. I must admit, I was totally on Tenma’s side until he chose not to believe Oto over Konoe. It was a total game changer in terms of who to root for because a huge boo boo. I was actually waiting for what type of flaw the writer would incorporate to his character to make him a bit less deserving of Oto’s affections. She grew up a lot after the sudden riches to rags events in her life thus building a wall between them. Haruto also matured a lt after being involved with her; it was especially evident when he apologized to the Hase family because Oto was not able to attend the family lunch. He took the blame and even testified for her how much she values Tenma in her heart. I was like Damn, Kaguragi is all grown up!
I must add though that him fan-boying over Tsukasa, Rui and Sojiro felt like me fan-girling over these people too! I totally understand why he was so starstruck to see them in person. He was so cute especially when he encountered Rui and Sojiro! I almost died of envy with his Tsukasa hologram in his own room! Honestly, I have so much praises for this drama partly because a lot of the cliche from Hana Yori Dango was either eliminated or given a twist. I also like that the story gave a lot of attention to the friendship aside from romance and intense opposition from parents. It was a refreshing yet familiar drama.
Tumblr media
Although it took me two years to pick up this drama, I hope it can continue to receive more love in the future because it deserves just that. Also viewers would be well off not comparing the actors and drama to Hana Yori Dango, after all, this is NOT a remake. It is set a decade after the legendary F4 of Eitoku Academy.
Nota Bene: Isn’t Airi just so cute? She was the cutest character of them all! Also, I love the fact that Utada Hikaru lent her voice once again with Hatsukoi as the main theme along with king and prince’s Cinderella Girl.

Days have passed, but I can’t seem to find the right words. Ever since that day Hongbin stopped appearing publicly, I felt a looming heartbreak. Although he was not my bias, I liked his personality a lot. And by that, I mean the sharp tongue Kong I know who expressed his opinions whether it was negative or positive. I accepted it same way as I know how the other members are also that way because they are human like me. Celebrities, but nonetheless entitled to an opinion. Aside from the fact that I’m heartbroken he had to leave Vixx, I felt worse when I saw that he was hurt. I could see it clearly that it pained me so much. Even if he said things recklessly, it does not mean that he is not allowed to get hurt with the backlash he got. Hongbin is a son and a brother before he is a celebrity, and I am sure he was raised with a lot of love from his family; to be treated that way just because some were irked and “hurt” by his words is not fair. I detest the fact he had to suffer the way he did, because he knows he messed up, but probably does not fathom why he must be targeted that way. Just imagining the type of comments and dms he probably received,I feel terrible for him. I would not be surprised if people even went as far as including his family in their slander. Well, Hongbin does not need all this shit if he will only end up hurt like that. My point is, it can’t be helped of Hongbin feels resentful towards “fans”, Jellyfish and maybe the members? One thing I know is that their friendship won’t be destroyed over this.
It hurts because I supported and poured my emotions on Vixx for the past seven to eight years, but my love for the group won’t stop. I really wish Jellyfish and Starlights could have protected him more. But the real problem here are Knetizens as well as netizens in general, who are so quick to criticize someone’s mistake and assault someone with their words just because they hide behind their screens. As long as companies regard to this type of “public opinion”, there will always be Idols who will be victims of being removed from their groups even if there are fans supporting them. I wish him the best and hope that he will not have regrets. Thank you for being with VIXX all these years, Lee Hongbin.

My Holo Love Review
Roughly four months into quarantine, and I think I have settled back into my K-dramathon life quite well. I have watched quite a number already, although my current streak doesn’t match my previous streaks yet. I still have more dramas on my list, but I’m not in a hurry as I have a lot of time in my hands now. I also am following currently airing dramas practically everyday of the week!
Tumblr media
This time, I watched My Holo Love on an impulse because I could not wait for the new episodes of Men are Men. I also read some good feed backs which I thought was good enough to give it a try. It was quite regretful the drama only had twelve episodes, but then it was just fine as the plot seemed to have been fit for exactly a dozen episodes only. I’ve been seeing this on Netflix but was avoiding it deliberately. For one, the title seemed cheesy and I have been refraining from AI themed dramas since all of them are like a spin off of Zettai Kareshi (Absolute Boyfriend) to me, which I was never fond of. What set this drama apart, is the use of a hologram instead of a robot, and the fascinating glass technology. My professor in Media and Information Literacy happened to discuss this topic a bit during our classes, so it really piqued my interest to see it in a drama. I was also impressed that everything somehow made sense and was logical enough for me to go along with the whole series.
                                       A Sweet Distraction
My Holo Love was a sweet distraction from reality albeit rather brief. It also left a moral lesson which people of all ages can reflect upon especially for those who have been too enthralled with gadgets and technology. The tech war between Gio Lab and Magic Mirror felt real enough to create suspense. It reminded me a bit of the ongoing race between countries to advance to the 5G and 6G, if it is really in the works. Also the recent murder of Fahim Saleh came to mind despite that one not being because of a tech war. I just suddenly thought of these things as I watched this drama. I really liked it when the drama showed the effect of the Holo glasses when it became available for public consumption. The drastic change in attitudes and how it ruined human relationships was realistic, and I personally believe current technologies have done similar damages already.
The characters were personally relatable especially Han So Yeon, though I do not have face blindness. I have similar inhibitions as her because all I can remember was getting burned from people. I guess I still have a lot to learn and I should try harder too. I like her character a lot because she was sensible and not the irritating damsel in distress type. Her character felt human with all her inhibitions about relationships due to fear of getting hurt, and she never exaggerated things. I believe both the character and actress, Ko Sung Hee, should be credited for this. All of that was really relatable for me including her innocence. I do not understand why people love to sexualize everything. They think girls with this character are just being pretentious...can’t there be an innocent soul who does not think of sex and being pretentious all the time?
Ko Nan Do was another character who had distanced his self from human relationships tp the point of becoming a pessimist. He was so sure emotions like love was just an algorithm. I am not sure if I really bought it that he thought that way, because I always saw Holo as an alter ego whom he refused to acknowledge. Nan Do always tried too hard to convince his self that he did not need love nor that he deserved it even though his noona Ko Yoo Jin took care of him a lot. Well, he is one stubborn character so it was not much of a surprise.
                            Simple and Sweet Chemistry
Strangely, I can’t seem to stop thinking about Kang Woo sunbae and So Yeon. They also had a sweet chemistry with a more realistic couple feel than a drama couple feel. They seemed like a couple I would see in the streets, going home from work or out on a date after a day’s work. I felt that vibe from them and it was obvious they could have ended up together if they both had more courage to express how they felt.
Of course, Nan Do and So Yeon looked really nice together too. Their chemistry was on point and was not overpowering at all. I love the balance they had in terms of visuals and their characters. They were afraid to get hurt thus it took them quite the courage to stop denying how they felt for each other. I love their sweet moments because it gave me that warm and fuzzy feeling I always look for in romance dramas. It was clear they only had eyes for each other. And the plot on being childhood friends felt natural. I have been tired of the attraction from childhood ploy because it has become overused, but My Holo Love incorporated it early on to the story so it did not feel like a “surprise plot twist”.
Tumblr media
Lastly, Ko Yoo Jin and Chansung! It was quite obvious these two had a thing for each other before Nan Do and So Yeon even realized their feelings. I always spazzed whenever I saw them together. Chansung had that reliable sangnamja feel which added to his chemistry with Choi Yeo Jin. I was so happy they got married in the last episode. It was the happily ever after I secretly wanted.
Tumblr media
                                     Official Sound Tracks!
I do not mention osts lately because they do not make much impression lately. Most of them are just there to assist a scene without becoming significant enough to notice. I’m still racking my brain but i believe it is safe enough to declare the osts in this drama is by far ma favorite for the past year or so. And I mean this for the whole ost playlist. Every song really set the mood well for every scene including the jazz songs they used for the early episodes. The warm and somber moods complemented well with the songs and the wardrobe colors the cast wore. It really set the mood for the episodes which carried me along so well. It was unexpectedly good. The production team did a stunning job for this drama.
https://open.spotify.com/album/1VVLJmwl5DPDmAurVLLtlm?si=lEI2QV5ySt6tNfHYyGVZUA
Thankfully, My Holo Love was not an overrated show like the rest of dramas I turned away from. It provided warmth and comfort, like a movie you would want to watch on a rainy night when you just want to stay home and be by yourself, wrapped in a blanket, with snacks and a cup of hot chocolate.

Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryeong Review
The biggest concern I have during dramathons is WHAT TO WATCH NEXT. Sure, I have a list of shows I want to watch, but how to arrange them? Based on genre? Actors? Plot? Am I the only one having these silly thoughts? After watching Man to Man, I didn’t want my next drama to be a damper in terms of quality. I even watched Sassy Go Go (re-watching it, actually since I saw it on KBS World) and Cells at Work before making up my mind.
I’ve been dying to watch Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryeong because Prince Lee Jin is so darned hot and handsome. My fan girl heart has been screaming at me for delaying this but my brain was resisting with the excuse of rationality. I only succumbed to my heart’s urging because my sisters got fed up with my silent brooding and told me to just watch it.
Tumblr media
                                               My Eyes Set
I always had my eyes set on this drama because of the main cast. Shin Se Kyung, Cha Eun Woo and Park Ki Woong are enough to have me waiting. This drama just offered me a visual feast and the most beautiful set of brothers I have ever laid my eyes on in drama land (Sorry, Seo In Guk and Park Bo Gum. You guys leveled down to 2nd place). Even though they turned out to be cousins, they’re still effing beautiful and too bright for my poor eyes. Not to mention, some of the Historians are quite the cuties as well. Also I was curious how Cha Eun Woo has grown as an actor after My ID is Gangnam Beauty.
Tumblr media
                                            Fan-girl Delight
Tumblr media
Hae Ryeong and Lee Rim’s love story was like a cherry on top because the drama had more story than their love just like Sungkyunkwan Scandal, but this one is a bit more like Sherlock Holmes in some aspects (did that make sense?). As I mentioned earlier, I definitely watched for Park Ki Woong and I was not disappointed one bit. Although I did not expect him to have his own love line, I’m not sure how to describe how I felt, I suppose it was good that he was not a third wheel to Hae Ryeong and Lee Rim?! Every scene he was on was a spazz moment for me, I was giggling non-stop and held my breath when I thought he would be a villain. That was both the Park Ki Woong and Lee Jin effect on me. His eyes was so intense, I just wanted to cover my face even if he was inside the screen! And I want to reiterate how beautiful Ki Woong and Eun Woo looked as brothers, they definitely brought real flowers to shame. I love their chemistry and they seemed like actual brothers due their Asian mestizo features. I mean they definitely do not look like the typical ethnic Korean with chinky eyes and single eye-lid in comparison to Seo In Guk and Park Bo Gum as brothers.
Tumblr media
                                             Right Choices
More than the visual feast, RHGHR was one those dramas which gave its audience something to actually ponder about. In my case, I thought about gender discrimination, integrity, equity and equality. And yes, making the right choices in our lives. We were also given a glimpse of the palace life beyond the King, Crown Prince and its ministers. This time, lower rank officials and other palace workers were given spotlight. The drama showed what life in the palace was like for its servants, and how they did their own politicking.
My ultimate favorite are the Historians because despite their own interests, they stuck with their principles of being true to their duty. They did not succumb to their political ambitions and the political forces around them. Instead, they chose to stay as a team, and I swear they were so adorable while at it. Of course, initially they were a bunch of misogynistic baboons, but they soon learned what our female historians were capable of. I thoroughly enjoyed the ‘hazing’ scene and how they came to the rescue of these ladies when the court ladies wanted to give them their own form of hazing rights.
Tumblr media
Everything boiled down to making the right choices for the characters. The characters were shown making choices not for their own good, but to uphold their principles and what they thought was for the greater good; from Lee Gyeom and Seo Moon Jik to Goo Jae Kyeong and the main leads as well. Their choices did not have a good outcome right away nor was it able to help the whole of Joseon in an instant, but it was the right choice given the situation they were faced with. It was the best they could do. I really reflected on that a lot because I often feel that I always make the wrong choices in my life. However, one thing I learned is that, if I do not have regrets with my decisions, whether it turned out well or not, then I made the right choice that was best for me. I would like to think it is the same for the characters in the drama. And yes, watching this drama was the right choice.
This drama definitely made it to my all-time favorite dramas with its quality story and production. I love how it tried to grip on the morals and principles of its viewers. I just hope the viewers also saw the drama beyond the pretty side and biases against Eun Woo’s acting because the boy performed well. Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryeong felt like reading a book by Jane Austen byway that it has sense and not to be discriminated just because the author is a woman. So I hope people also find that this drama is beyond shallow.
Tumblr media
(I’ve been looking for a version of this still that is not cropped but i couldn’t find any. The historians look so cute here.)

This is not a story about racism. Racism is the background of the story, that’s undeniable, but it’s not what the story is all about. This is a story about people and family, about women and men, love and hate, fear and bravery, about loyalty, gratefulness, kindness, pride, contempt and envy altogether, of people of all kind, age, and color. This is a story mostly about hope and despair, and how everybody’s life can be torn so easily, about how everything we know and love can be gone with the wind. And those who try to spin something of real value just because it is there and try to make it fit into current issues - just because racism has always existed - miss the whole point. It’s not about how it WAS done, it’s about how it IS done now. Nobody can change the past. All we can do now is just learn how to never repeat it. Let good old stories remain good old stories, stop trying to make out of it something it was never meant to be.
This is a story about hope and about how it never dies. Because after all, tomorrow is another day…
Gone with the Wind, a novel by Margaret Mitchell. (1936)

It’s the 8th Anniversary of my dearest Vixx! I feel a bit heartbroken that there does’t seem to be much fanfare this year. Celebrating their anniversary in the midst of this pandemic with Hakyeon and Taekwoon doing military service makes me lonelier. Also watching Ken and Hyuk doing Vlive together without Wonshik and Hongbin made my heart ache even more. I’m not used to it.
Vixx brought me so much joy. They made my fan-girl heart beat again after SS501. They also gave me so many reasons to be a proud Starlight by doing their best in their craft. I think this is by far the loneliest Vixxary I have ever experienced. I hope Starlights can protect these guys in a healthy way and support them no matter what.

Man to Man review
Tumblr media
Forest just ended and classes have been suspended. I've been looking forward to watching Man to Man but kept putting it off because I needed to focus on my return to school. My interest piqued because Cheese in the Trap (drama) was just so unsatisfactory. No wonder Park Hae Jin took on the movie which had better cast, thankfully. But first, I want to share a bit of history to my Park Hae Jin drama addiction. I first saw him in Chil Princesses then East of Eden then Seoyong, My Daughter, all of which were aired in a local channel. Though I didn't watch these dramas closely except for East of Eden, I just watched some of the episodes enough to remember the actors. I just literally remembered that Yeon Jung Hoon AND Park Hae Jin were in East of Eden together as babies exchanged from birth as a form of revenge! It seems my memory works well when it comes to K-dramas. Even then, I wasn't so fond of PHJ but I must admit I was quite surprised to see him as a third wheel in My Love from the Stars. I just thought his stature should be the lead actor type. And so Cheese in the Trap came a long with an interesting plot. I thought it wouldn't be bad to give it a try. Thanks to the director, writer or whoever it was who thought setting aside Yoo Jung aka PHJ to give Seo Kang Joon more scenes was a great idea. Nevertheless, I believe that injustice gave birth to the Cheese movie turning it into a blessing in disguise. I love the movie a lot and I got to move on from the drama version with ease. I usually hate it when the drama and movie has a different cast but I didn't feel that way with this one. It was quite difficult to source the movie so I was beyond ecstatic when Red by HBO picked it up. I watched it for like 4 times and never got tired of it. Shortly after that addiction, I learned Forest was airing on KBS World. Coincidence? Not sure but the idea sent me to the skies. Though it was a twice a week drama, it was quite a struggle to watch due to hectic class schedules but I prevailed. Heh.
Forest left me wanting more PHJ dramas and the class suspension made verything fall into place. Finally, after so much holding back from drama temptation, I got to watch Man to Man on Netflix. It is better to be late than never, right? At first, I looked it up thoroughly since it's his first production after to Cheese in the Trap because I didn't want to be disapointed again. The actors in this drama are the real stuff. From the lead to supporting actors and production staff, I just knew the drama would be in good hands. With a stellar cast and firm story line, my heart felt so full.

Man to Man has everything I can probably look for in a drama (on those days when I'm not into fluffy romance). Genre wise, there's action, comedy, romance, bromance and just the right amount of drama. It was like watchig a movie with the length of a drama which makes it so perfect for me. Like K a.k.a. Seol Woo, I prefer dramas over movies because of its length (although we do have different underlying reasons for that).
Not the usual cliché
I do admit I was a bit curious of K's real identity like his family and etc but it seems it was a good decision not to touch on his back story to lay off the usual K-drama cliché. There weren't also any childhood meeting for our main leads. It was the characters around K who had stories to tell which felt satisfying enough for me as a viewer. Watching dramas taught me excessive deets on a character can come off as cliché and kill a story if not well executed.
Things to love
One of the first things I noticed was I did not feel as if Park Hae Jin was too much in my face. The screen time between the actors was divided decently which is another plus with professional actors and production. I actually felt as if PHJ was trying to prove a point with this drama because the level was totally different. I might be overthinking here but to me it did seem that way.
The actors had perfect chemistry making them so fun to watch. From the bromance to the villains, they were just really fun to watch.
I love how Park Hae Jin delivers a funny line or situation with a straght face. He literally seemed like he was having fun messing with his role that way. I couldn't help but feel so impressed at how he could shift between emotions with such ease. It was definitely my type of acting method and he did it perfectly. I've seen tons of actors do this method but his was exceptionally effortless. PHJ certainly improved a lot, I guess his experiences as a character actor honed his talent. I'm certainly a fan of his acting from here on though I probably won't ever have a crush on him. Lol. He and Joo Won are few of the actors I love without having a crush on actually.
Kim Min Jung is another wonderful actress although she isn't your typical lead actress. She usually takes on a variety of characters and she executes them so well. Cha Do Ha is a bit naive but scary when angered while Park Hu Ja (My Fellow Citizens) is somewhere between scary and funny and damn badass like a true woman should be. Though it took me some time to appreciate Seol Woo and Do Ha's romance, it changed when their feelings started to actually grow serious. I was surprised because I didn't expect the shift and to actually see it. I can credit their great acting because I found my self shipping Seol Woo and Do Ha although it may not be to the point of outside the drama.
Bromance. Yeo Woon Gwang (Park Sung Woong) was totally a third wheel to the main couple for Seol Woo's affection, that is. I just get the kick out of it every time they ran away like some lovers from The Bodyguard, it was a parody alright, but it was definitely the best I've ever seen among all parodies. Yeo Woon Gwang and Cha Do Ha shed light into K's life as a ghost agent. His South Korean mission made him human and earned him a family. Technically, there were different types of bromance in Man to Man all over from the NIS Agents to the villains.
Twists. Yup so most dramas have twists in it but some feel as if they're forced. However, I didn't feel that way for this drama. While I might have expected some of it due to the initial clues, I think the so calld twists were well put together.
Tumblr media
It is definitely a good watch if you're searching for a quality drama with action and comedy in it. I mean I'm totally raving here and if my writing does have a voice, you'd probably hear my never ending excitement and enthusiasm towards this drama. Thank goodness, Old School Intern is coming up!

Vixx 7th Anniversary
Tumblr media
Seven years of Vixx existence. To celebrate this year's Vixxary, I decided to go back to their roots as Vixx and how they began. I'm still in the process of watching Vixx MTV Diary which I plan to take all the way to Vixx TV 1 and more. One thing I noticed is that the boys of Vixx haven't changed much. Their perseverance, dedication and value for fans remained the same as seven years ago which made me really proud. I just know i'm fangirling over the right group. Watching each and every member's growth made me even prouder. I personally think the growth was most evident with Taekwoon and Sanghyuk. Taekwoon reminds me of myself a lot which made me zoom in on him. He went from the tough guy wearing an iron shield to huge jelly teddy bear whom the members can beat up playfully (though he acts like such a drama queen whenever they do). Hyuk whom he used to give a "count of death" can now carry and hrow him off. Of course Hyukkie, the monstrous maknae whom his hyungs are afraid of nowadays. He used to be really awkward with them and even scared of them. However, he managed to turn things around and the result is a brotherhood with maknae on top.
Tumblr media
Now that Hakyeon is fulfilling his military duties, it is inevitable that the others would follow suit. I haven't got time to prepare my heart for it, but I just hope they can still be together as Vixx once every member have fulfilled their duties. It's so touching how Hakyeon always think of Starlights even inside the military. He practically performed another Vixx there!
Tumblr media
With the recent events with Vixx and their contracts, I could not help but feel a bit sunken but I know it was bound to happen. Besides, they still get to stay as Vixx ot6 which makes my heart jump with so much joy. I know that Wonshik's heart is sincere. I must say that the whole set up seems really great and I hope they keep it up. Despite being busy  with life, Vixx's dedication and sincerity isn't lost on me; they inspire me so much and give me comfort. I suppose I relate to them more given that their in my age group.
Tumblr media
Stunning visuals aside, Vixx is one of the most perfect idol groups out there (Arashi, SHINee, Super Junior, EXO, DBSK). THey embpdy K-pop without trying to sound too western. They are also very much original with their concepts and have undeniably become trendsetters. Their style in fashion and music has influenced several K-pop groups (and even plagairzed abroad!) no matter how much others deny it. Each Vixx member was able to shime in their own respective fields. I love how the members have different charms and talent yet jibe so well. Their chemistry is just so perfect that it feels they were fated to become Vixx. In fact, one of the reasons why I rewatched Mydol was because I wanted to see the other contenders for the group. I just could not imagine anyone else as Vixx. I even had the crazy idea that the members could have been premeditated before Mydol.
Tumblr media
As a Starlight, I hope Vixx can still be Vixx for as long as they can and want to. I have faith in the members given the recent arangements made and what they have shown us for the lat seven years. I pray each members will always find joy in what they do both as an individual and as Vixx. And one wish I have as a Starlight would be for Jelpi to pit back the English subs on the Vixx TV 2 episodes! I want to watch them on Realvixx and not another channel! Please give back the English subs, Rovix!
Tumblr media
Saranghae, Vixx and I'll always be a Starlight! Thank you for bringing smile to my lips and making my heart neat with your songs (and Ken's unrivaled aegyo).
P.S. I am well aware this is a late post but I was waiting for any updates on VIxx and the whole contract thing was like a bomb to me.

A Fangirl's Heart
Lately, I've been watching Her Private Life starring Park Min Young and Kim Jae Wook (isn't he just so darned hot? His voice is so sexy too). It's only now that I actually have time to sit back and take time to return to my fangirl ways although it won't be for long. I am hoping I still have a follower or at least someone to read this considering I haven't been active for over a year. I would like to share that I am finally back in school. Just when I thought I have matured enough to breeze through a social life with kids way younger than I am (my classmates) and my teachers who are around my age (or even younger than I am actually), I-W-A-S-S-O-W-R-O-N-G. I even got diagnosed with syncope.
That aside, I came back to write about fangirling and the recent events which made me rethink being a fangirl and what it actually means. I also thought about loyalty and where my heart stands at the moment. It made me reflect a lot and trace where this heart began. My first K-pop Idol crush was SS501's maknae Kim Hyung Jun which lead to a heartbreak due to the group's sudden hiatus (I'm still hopeful for a reunion). Then I turned to Cnblue, a rock band which made my heart beat once again despite being nowhere near SS501. It was VIXX who filled that empty spot they left after 4 years. Cnblue on the other hand, brought me so much comfort which is why I've sworn to be a Boice all my life. Back then, I read an article from a k-pop magazine my sisters and I collect, it said not to fret to much because a fangirl's heart recovers over time from such heartbreaks and the world isn't going to end. I used to question that but after awhile, the writer was correct. My heart looked for replacements by watching dramas which eventually led to growing crushes on actors and discovering Idol groups. All those years, practically just kept to myself. I was out of school and felt depressed with my life so I looked for interests which kept me alive. I rarely had interactions with the real world.
Ever since I became a fan of Cnblue (2009), Lee Jong Hyun became my ultimate crush. He was like the default crush in my heart whenever I became enamored with my actor crushes only to fall in and out of that infatuation. Yup, that's 10 worth of crushing. With the recent 'trials' in my fangirl life, I started to feel unsure. Did I just look at what I wanted to see? Probably yes. I'm not sure if Lee Jong Hyun is still my number 1 crush but I do know I will never let go of Cnblue neither will I allow ANY member to be removed. I even watched VIXX videos from mydol (formation era) to mtv diary and practically everything I can find. I did it to remember why I became so smitten with this group in the first place. My findings? Well, I fell in love all over again. But then, the question I posed is for my heart and the hearts of those fangirls like myself. I expected too much forgetting these celebrities are humans like myself and they are bound to make mistakes. Sometimes, these mistakes won't sit well us for it may have opposed to what we believe is right and proper. It was foolish of me. One thing I can say is that once you become a fangirl, it becomes an endless cycle. Our object of affection may change but we would always look for someone to gush over, don't you think so?
