Agent Carter S2E1 impressions
I’ll start by the big rant: I. HATE. LOVE. TRIANGLES. They are dumb. A dead horse trope. Just. Don’t. Please. The whole: you were interested and now I am but you are in a relationship with another already… NONONONONONONO. Mostly because we all know how that conflict is going to end, so it is pointless drama; no character gets any growth whatsoever out of it, and the third party could be replaced by a fridge and it would all be the same. Repeat after me: pointless. drama. is. pointless. conflict. is. good. when. it. develops. character.
Ok, over with it.
L.A., it is!
Jack being Jack started the awkwardness by sending Peggy. In character. Anyways, the moment he started interrogating Dottie I felt he was going to die. He has survived this episode, but I’m not confident he’ll survive the season.
The carrot and the stick finally explained!
The thing with the senator was SHADY. Are we actually sure it was the FBI?
Peggy’s blue suit/pink hat combo doesn’t look half as good on Dottie. I never thought something would look good on a petite and not so good on a tall woman. every day one learns something new. Speaking of wardrobe, the green combo is the first thing Peggy wears that I think is meh.
The receptionist from the SSR office in NY is now in L.A.! I feel a lot like her. Coming from a windy, cloudy city, I LOVE THE SUN.
Also, Daniel got his promotion. Good for him. Man deserved it!
I’m not that much invested as of now on the plot around the freezing stuff, but we shall see, it may get more interesting in the following episodes.
WE FINALLY GOT TO SEE ANNA JARVIS AND I LOVE HER. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE ANNA. She’s my spirit animal. The Jarvises are the cutest thing, and the stiff britishness paired with such over abundance of warmth is priceless. Also, I feel that Jarvis is going to be my comfort through this stupid dumb love triangle plot. We shall see (specially now that it seems like Angie disappeared in the night and is not coming back).

i has all the sads about seeing cartinelli and steggy fans who are being mean to peggysous shippers like
tumblr is surprisingly chill (or maybe it’s just that i’m staying far enough away from it) but this morning on facebook someone said that they’re happy because of our being in pain about 2.01 and 2.02 because it “serves [peggy/daniel] shippers right because that’s not the s2 the cartinelli shippers campaigned for’ and that “daniel betrayed her and angie didn’t and since daniel is one of the so-called fathead male coworkers he can’t expect to earn forgiveness for that” like guys where did we go wrong where did we lose the hope of being friends
and i mean yes i’m a lesbian and i even run a femslash blog and livejournal community and the tumblr has a cartinelli sidebar gif because i hella ship it but like
if we all agree that peggy carter is the eighth natural wonder of the world then why the hell are we happy about each other hurting because of who she does or doesn’t love or is or isn’t in love with like guys this sucks

OH
OH
I JUST HAD A THOUGHT
Some people think that Jack Thompson and Michael Carter somewhat resemble each other
in the intro to Peggy’s Musical Concussion, she finds Michael with his feet on Daniel’s desk, similar to the way she discovers Jack with his feet on Daniel’s desk
Another parallel:
Michael: “You’ve gotten yourself into quite a fix this time” Peggy: “I wouldn’t even be in this position if you hadn’t put me up for the SOE position to begin with”
But a more proximate cause: Peggy wouldn’t even be in that position if Jack hadn’t sent her out to L.A.
What does Peggy know about Jack? His personal file has some serious falsification by omission (the incident with the flag) and that he’s tried to order her to falsify files (about the Isodyne case)
So is her subconscious already picking up on the M. Carter file either missing some critical information or being outright falsified?

And they settle ‘neath your skin
Kept on the inside and no sunlight
Sometimes a shadow wins
But I wonder what would happen if you
                                                 Say what you wanna say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave
X.

Peggy/Angie
shops for groceries?both of them are pretty good at grocery shopping. angie is slightly more practical - peggy has a sweet tooth.
kills the spiders?peggy absolutely. angie can’t stand spiders - she blames her brothers for that, they told her all kinds of terrible stories to frighten her, about the barn on their uncles farm there was an enormous and kinda magical spider that ate children and if you ever walked into a spiderweb, it would feel the movement and it’d be on its way and you had better run. fast. she knows it’s not real now but she still hates the idea. also howard keeps trying out inventions to repel bugs and spiders in their house but after the third incident - they were overrun for a whole week and angie had to move out, just for a bit, she couldn’t deal with it - they decided they weren’t going to be howards little helpers
comes home drunk at 3am?peggy. sometimes she goes to a bar and just sits for a while, thinking about steve or the war in general, the chief, all her friends, whether she could have made a different decision. all those what ifs that plague her but she puts aside because that’s the only way she can do her job. sometimes she just needs to drink and think about them. angie likes to drink with friends but she’s a giggly drunk.
makes breakfast?angie. she’s a wonderful cook. peggy is terrible.
remembers to feed the fish?neither. howard installed a timed feeder. but angie loves the fish. there is a pond in the inside courtyard (an inside courtyard, can you imagine, peggy?) and she likes to sit there to learn her lines and the fish are a welcome audience
decorates the apartment?angie. if she left it to peggy, it would be very neutral. lovely, she has no doubt about that, but angie likes a little colour and pizzazz and peggy can be a bit spartan about decorating.
initiates duets?oh peggy can’t sing. angie doesn’t believe her - she has that voice that makes people swoon, but angie doesn’t press because angie loves to serenade peggy. howard is happy to join in and jarvis has a surprisingly clear and strong baritone
falls asleep first?angie. always. peggy finds it hard to sleep a lot of the time but it’s easier with angie next to her

You know I thought I would be really pissed off at Thompson, but the truth is it doesn’t even surprise. It’s totally still in character, because he’s still trapped by the world he lives in and what he thinks as a man he should be. His development – and really, it is development – in the last few episodes just put into clearer light what he said to Peggy in E04 about what the way of the world is like, and that it’s sad but that doesn’t mean it’s not true. He knows that things suck, but he really doesn’t believe they have the power to change the way of the world, so he continues to take credit for the things he hasn’t done, in Japan and now here.
He probably thinks that even if he did protest and contradict Government Guy and say no, it’s all Peggy’s work, Government Guy would just dismiss it all anyway, at the same time he would think Thompson and the rest of the office of men are idiots for following a woman’s lead. And honestly, that is realistically what would have happened. Thompson probably thought some praise even in the wrong place is better than no praise and disdain. So he takes it though it bothers him, just as the praise about what happened in Japan bothers him, but he’s worked himself into a corner, thinking, well I never bragged, everyone just sorted heaped all this honour on me, it’s not as if I could really refuse…
Now that it’s laid out, it would probably have been too great leap if Thompson had corrected the  assumption and given Peggy the credit.
But what I like about that scene is that it shows a shift in Peggy as well. In the beginning of the series, Peggy really was bothered by how people overlook her,  even if she might act to the contrary. Obviously she craved that acknowledgement, though not necessarily from Thompson particularly. But by this finale, she’s gotten that acknowledgement in moments when it actually mattered, from Dooley who I think despite everything she does want respect from most, from her colleagues when they did clap as she went in even though they didn’t have to. So she doesn’t need some big official government guy to clap her on the back while she smiles and makes small talk while knowing the guy doesn’t really believes her capable of this. Let Thompson take that if he wants. She actually looks amused more than anything.
It’s interesting that Daniel is still all about striding in to protect the girl. I suppose just as Jack can’t totally change over night, neither can Daniel. But if in the beginning, despite backing off like Peggy asks, Daniel clearly still allows how everyone treats her to bother him. I think by this finale, he actually takes Peggy’s word now that it really doesn’ bother her, and in turn it stops bothering him too. It does say a lot that it’s those words that allows him to get up the courage to ask her out. It’s like, yes, if Carter can believe in her own value regardless of anyone else’s opinion, Sousa should be as well and for once believe that maybe he has a chance with her.
