a misconception of ace/aro experience that i see so often in allo ppl that i’m surprised i don’t see talked about as much is that like. individual experience/relationship to attraction has absolutely no bearing on an individual’s passionate support of the political stance that is sex positivity.

indeed among ace ppl some are more favorable or more repulsed or neutral to sexual/romantic relationships than others, but all that is completely separate from the support of the value of sex beyond social/societal/political stigma or barrier. i’d argue there’s plenty of people who are sex favorable personally and sex negative politically; just look at any straight dude who wants a woman who will please him just how he wants yadda yadda while simultaneously looking down morally on women with a lot of experience, or bi women who have been with girls, etc.

an ace/aro person’s lack of active interest in sex/romance (which of course does not inherently negate their capacity to have and enjoy such) is not this prudish puritanical belief in the superiority of their own modes of attraction/relationship over allo ppl; in fact, many ace/aro people are constantly reckoning with the notion of their feelings and relationships and love as inferior to the allo “norm”. where the sociopolitical expectation is hetero, allosexual monogamous attraction and the conceptions of “valuable” individual/interpersonal/communal/broad institutional society and economy and politic associated with such, ace/aro-ness is just as relevant a radical approach to interpersonal relationships and by extension HUMANITY as those of our gay and trans siblings. sex positivity is so much more than “i love sex”, and ace/aro people, if not among you already, are boldly and proudly in solidarity with you.

this month has been full of so many instances where i thought “im not strong enough to live through this” “i cant possibly figure out how to face something like this”. but a month ago, i was getting frustrated just looking for a shirt to wear on a date.. and for awhile i kept thinking how stupid i was to have gotten frustrated over something so pointless, at time my life was so much calmer and certain. well, i dont know how to solve what im facing right now, but today i went out for groceries and found exactly the kind of shirt id been looking for, so… i wonder what other things i will figure out if i stick around long enough to find them. i think maybe ive mistaken strength for knowing what to do right away, all the time, when its really just deciding to keep moving forward even when you dont.

Imagine my shock as a neurodivergent teen when I first realized that using large vocabulary and eloquent speech doesn't make you less likely to be misinterpreted, rather it adds an entirely new layer of misinterpretation I had never even realized existed in the form of people thinking you're being snobbish or condescending when you're just trying to be specific

listen I ended up regretting saying anything about this on my old blog because people will interpret literally any and every statement maliciously on this hellsite but I want to start like. a helpline for people who are like “hey I pretty much only read YA but I’m like 22 now and don’t relate to teenagers as much, it’s such a shame that there are no fun books written for adults :(” because boy HOWDY are there some fun books for adults

anyways (I say this as someone who is deeply critical of the united states government, military, unchecked capitalism, police, etc) I am SICK of people treating america as if it has no cultural value or positives so….. I love u 85 million acres (bigger than italy) of national parks. I love u harlem renaissance. I love u groundhogs day. I love u sweet tea and fried chicken and jambalaya. I love u apple cider donuts and maizes on crisp autumn days. I love u 95k miles of coastlines and new england fisherman and hand knitted sweaters. I love u halloween where millions of people dress up and give candy to strangers and carve jack o’lanterns. I love u small talk and small towns and potlucks and bringing over casseroles to your struggling neighbors. I love u cowboys and ranch hands and arizonian cactus. truly begging the internet as a whole to learn the difference between the “oooh i’m not like other girls i’m cool & quirky” mentality & the genuine feeling of being a total outsider among their peers that many young women experience, usually due to holding one or more marginalized identities. like “i don’t fit in with & feel ostracized by the majority of my classmates” is not inherently a pick me thing & we really don’t need to be shaming young women for expressing that they feel this way
