god, ive been gone for so long.

whether or not anyone noticed my inactivity, i feel i should explain why.

there is, of course, the classic contender that is “life got busy”. not only am i in college now, but ive been spending my days either at work, school, or at home writing my books. those are all true, but they’re not the only reasons ive been all but radio-silent on here.

this fandom simply isn’t the fun-loving place it was when i joined.

i joined the (tumblr) fandom when the tag was roughly at 5k followers. still a ton of people, of course, but it still felt more… enclosed, i guess. but the sheer size of the fandom now is not only intimidating, but also made the experience less friendly, if that makes sense. with so many people present, the best i can say is that it has been extremely overwhelming for me.

i still love the show, and i still love byler and all the theories we concoct, but i just can’t enjoy my stay when every other post is negative anymore—whether it’s a post criticizing others or just finding something to feel down and out about.

it just isn’t a fun experience for me anymore.

this is not a permanent goodbye, however. i just won’t really be active on here, not until more content gets released and i have a reason to want to be back.

this is not an attack against anyone specifically in this fandom; rather, it is a general statement containing the my feelings about the actions of the fandom at large. there is an undeniable negativity that shrouds us at any given moment, and i am exhausted. while i haven’t been here recently enough to say that statement still holds true, i can say it just reflects the state of the fandom when i took my impromptu hiatus.

i will be back one day. something like this that has been an integral part of my life won’t leave me so easily. i just won’t be posting for a long, long time.

tl;dr: my hiatus is not over, and it will remain as such for the foreseeable future. i genuinely cannot say i was having fun in the fandom anymore once s4 concluded. while i am not cutting it out entirely, i am cutting it back.

i’ll be back when season 5 rolls near, but even then, i may not be as active.

i hope you can all understand my viewpoint, and i hope you all continue to find solace and joy in this fandom.

Extra doodle and headcanon:

Been thinking about Mike and Will getting married on impulse in 2021 because when they wanted to get married during their 20s, they couldn’t, and by the time it got decriminalised, they just didn’t care enough. They were basically married anyway. But on Will’s 50th birthday, he just looks at Mike, who cooked him an elaborate birthday dinner and goes “I want to be married to you.” And Mike (being Mike) immediately says “Let’s do it. Next week.” And the rest is history.

wow hi what. is going on in this tag.

anyway my immediate reaction upon seeing “the crawl” makes me think that it’s possibly not about any of our characters doing something or doing The Carwling

it’s probably about something coming out of the upside down. crawling out of it and into hawkins.

because im thinking about what nancy was saying after she got vecna’d and saw glimpses into the future, or at least vecna’s future plans. like how she said there were monsters coming out of the upside down, entering hawkins, entering their homes, etc. and that there’s some giant, gaping-mouth monster we have yet to get clarity on. so. “the crawl” may be literal as in something with new upside down enemies leaving their home turf and slinking into the material world.

additionally though, “to crawl” does not only mean the physical action of crawling, but also the literal or figurative act of making progress, albeit slowly. crawling your way toward something can mean approaching a goal at a nearly imperceptible rate, but nonetheless, progress is made. maybe it has to do with someone overcoming something or finding and reaching for a new goal. like trying to help max or wake her up, as an example. it may be a slow, seemingly impossible goal, but maybe they’ll crawl their way to victory if they can rouse her.

(i have a very strong feeling max is stuck in a dream-loop the same way terry was. max can’t see into the physical world anymore, but im sure her mental fight with vecna left her some extra-sensory powers, much like Will gaining true sight after being trapped in the upside for a week and being tormented by vecna at a psychological-horror level. so if that’s the case, then whatever max may be seeing may be the key to reversing the damage)

but if we want to take it literally in the sense of our beloved characters, it could definitely allude to them entering the upside down or getting in some sort of tight situation where they’re mostly inhibited. it is entirely possible we’ll get to see so much more of the upside down in this final season, so im sure they’re crawling their way into the unknown in the same way the monsters are entering a new environment.

i don’t support dogpiling or ‘cancelling’ people over random/non harmful shit but this is Actively Harmful Rhetoric to spread about trans people and pro-jkr support and gender critical nonsense is genuinely threatening towards trans people and as a personal example, i’ve been face to face with JKR’s brand of terf supporters irl specifically and they are the type of people who literally make my irl life more difficult and dangerous. 

they are the ones supporting the anti-trans, pro-conversion therapy legislature that put me through hell in highschool. they are the ones putting up anti-trans and ‘i <3 jkr” banners where i live and violently getting in the faces of anyone who calls them out on their bs. they are the ones who want trans people to cease existing- and they’re the ones who don’t only WANT that, but are TRYING to make it happen. they are the ones who make it more difficult for me to be accepted by the people in my community because she tries to paint her outright violence against trans people under the guise of womens’ rights and under the guise of being a victim and tries to get people who previously would have accepted me as trans to reject me. and the rejection is the least of my concerns when it comes to her and her supporters, and that says a lot.

 jkr has openly supported violence and violent groups against trans people repeatedly and is just absolutely fucking heinous in every way. people like jkr get people like me killed. that’s not even hyperbole. i am dead (hah) serious. 

if you are a stranger things fan that supports jkr, you have missed the fucking point of the show you absolutely useless fucking moron. if you are a person of any kind who supports jkr, you have missed the point of humanity and morality and kindness, you absolutely useless fucking moron. 

i say all of this and go on this rant because this isn’t the sort of stuff that we can sweep under the rug and i want to make SURE that people who may not know about jkr understand that she is violently anti-trans and that her actions have very tangible real life effects and that im just one tiny example of this. we talk often in this tag about the harms of bigotry when it comes to characters, so the same should apply to when it comes to real people.
