It snowed, the night after the wither fight.

It was barely a dusting on the frozen ground, but still, it made Grian shiver. It reminded him of another time, years ago, when he had trudged through the thick bloody snow and ash after the chaos of another wither.

This time, the days had started out fairly warm, but the nights had been cold, and the yellow leaves betrayed the coming of winter. Grian silently cursed the watchers for making them do this in the cold.

Still, Etho and Cleo's house had been inviting, and Scar's house had been warm the few nights Grian had taken shelter there, and he had managed to hold off the freezing cold with thick coats and trips to the nether.

Grian was anything but warm now, sitting hunched and freezing atop the stone pillar, watching through the slowly darkening grey at the people milling about below him. He could hear their faint shouts and the sharpening of weapons, and if he closed his eyes he could see the faint glint of red in their eyes, compelled by the boogeyman curse to kill each other. He had no idea where Cleo was. Or Scott. The snow on the ground had melted, but small flakes still drifted from the grey sky, settling on Grian's shoulders, and his breath fogged in the air when he shivered. There was no warmth left to find here, anymore. He was completely and utterly alone.
