If you dare come at me about banning straws, I will throw you into the sun cannon. I’m disabled, I’m crippled, I need disposable plastic straws, and all those pricey ridiculous alternatives aren’t working as well. Plastic straws were invented for the disabled.

Way to shit all over a vital access need because you think straws are worse than corporate greed.

We all care about the turtles, the seals, the oceans, obviously. Notice how the easiest thing to yell about was something that would barely affect anything but appealed heavily to emotional discourse.

The disabled community is huge, and it can be joined by anyone. Most of those As Seen On TV products were invented for us. Society still mocks us and ignores us, and often outright harms us in multiple ways.

Communicate better. Listen better. But stop putting us out in the cold because you are inconvenienced by our simplest needs.

thinking about a post i saw telling people to report posts that seem suicidal or depressed. thinking about all the trauma that's come from involuntary psych holds, the violence of police banging on your door and pointing guns at you because someone thinks you might hurt yourself. thinking about being charged thousands of dollars for an involuntary hold, and even losing your job because you missed work without notice because they took your phone.

Conversion practices are still legal in Western Australia, despite Labor promising to take action back in 2017. Tell Premier Roger Cook this is unacceptable by emailing him at [email protected] and [email protected]

WA Labor has ignored the issue of torture and abuse targeted towards queer people known as conversion "therapy" for two elections in a row - yet still thinks it can rely on your vote in 2025 where they can continue ignoring the LGBTQIA+ community.

Let the premier know his indifference towards queer people is horrific.

WA Labor has announced it'll abolish the Gender Reassignment Board!!! This could be a massive benefit to trans people across the state as WA's gender recognition laws are the worst in the country - and that board where you need to prove you're trans is a major and pointless hurdle.

This is a shift from their previous lack of commitment, saying it was a post 2025 election issue. But thanks to everyone who contacted MPs, put pressure, and made a noise about this it seems like Labor has realised it'll lose support by the LGBTQIA+ community if it doesn't take action it's been promoting to do for 7+ years.

So good work everyone!

The thing is: WA Labor also announced back in 2022 they'd ban conversion therapy by the end of 2023 but then simply didn't. Don't be fooled: this is an announcement of INTENTION. No moves to abolish the board have been introduced YET.

This also means that people are still going to be subject to abusive conversion practices and protections for intersex people remain non-existent.

So! Don't stop contacting members of WA Parliament and the Premier and support campaigns like Rainbow Futures WA (who have a great email template) and call for more comprehensive reform - like stopping religious schools from being able to discriminate against gay staff and students!

I'm seeing things that I - wonder don't make it into ANY adaptations, and it's odd seeing that there's a consensus of what does and does not make it. This scene where Scrooge demands to see proof that his death moved someone and it cuts to the family who get to keep their house because his death has delayed his filing of foreclosure papers until they can make the delinquent payments is one I think should be making more rounds.

wistfully remembering how people (pretended they) cared about antisemitism when it was primarily coming from the right. like there are pre-2023 posts with tens of thousands of notes about antisemitism. now any mention of the existence of antisemitism (when its worse than it ever was) doesn’t breach containment outside of jewish circles. its almost funny how quickly people stopped caring when it was inconvenient.

The fact that the dub vs sub argument is still a thing will never not make me want to put my head through a wall bc sure I could go on about how it can be an accessibility for people like myself with dyslexia and adhd or talk about how the people working behind the dubs are also professionals who take pride in their work and deserve to be rated on their own merits and skills but at the end of the day it doesn't matter it just doesn't if you like a show better in dub good for you if you like it subbed good for you if you like to watch both sub and dub at the same time I may start asking questions but I digress just let people watch the thing how they want to watch the thing bc at least they are watching the thing
