Treats and Tricks - Systematic Restore Pre-Story
Zzzzip!
The young goat monster paced hurriedly around his room after finally managing to zip up his Halloween costume. It was clearly too big for him, the cloth at the bottom of his feet almost tripping him a few times. Halloween had already arrived and he had no time to fix it, but it didn’t really bother him; he was too excited to worry about it. After a few minutes of scrambling to get everything ready, Asriel stepped in front of the mirror, beaming with joy. He stared at his reflection for a while and adjusted his golden heart locket, pausing suddenly at the familiar smell of cinnamon-butterscotch pie. It brought back a wave of good memories.
“Asriel ! Are you ready yet?”
He didn’t realize he was spaced out, his mother calling to him from the kitchen immediately snapping him out of it. “Ah– uh, Yes!“ Asriel grabbed the empty bucket sitting atop the desk and reached for the door, quickly walking out.
Chara sat casually at the dining table messing with a yo-yo toy. She turned her attention towards the hallway Asriel came sprinting through. He was anything but stealthy, as every one of his steps produced a loud thump. “Hey, Chara! I finally got my cos- OOUF–“ The goat boy landed face-first onto the floor, his costume finally tripping him, as if it hadn’t warned him several times earlier. Chara snickered, still spinning around her yo-yo. “You okay, Azzy?“ He lifted himself up off the floor and gave her a reluctant thumbs up, slightly embarrassed. The human leaned her elbow on the table and rested her head atop the palm of her hand. She stared at him for a couple moments before speaking again. “What’d you finally decide to dress up as?“ Asriel, straightening up his costume after his fall, beamed at the chance to explain what he was supposed to be. “I’m the GOD OF HYPERDEATH !!“ He waved his dual wooden blades covered in white paint and badly done rainbow crayon coloring. “You don’t recognize it? I drew it while we were coloring together!” Chara decided to jokingly poke fun at him. “Ooh, yeah. I remember that. It was hilarious.” Asriel huffed. “Whatever, Chara. What are you supposed to be?” She set her toy on the table and stood from her chair proudly. She wore a black and red cloak and had fake fangs attached to her teeth, with little red horns attached to a headband to top it all off. “I’m a vampire.” Chara swiftly moved her arm to cover the bottom half of her face, the cloak attached to her arm following. Asriel smiled and clapped. “Woow, we’re gonna have the best costumes there!!”The human smiled as well, her arms moving back to her side. Though, her smile quickly faltered as her eyes darted towards the hallway behind her brother. Chara’s once joyful expression turned into a light frown, one which Asriel certainly didn’t miss, expressing his concern as well. “Are you okay..?” Before she could answer, another human quietly strolled down the hallway towards the dining room, eventually joining them there. Of course, Asriel was the first to greet them, his frown being swiftly wiped off his face as he turned to meet Frisk. “Oh, Frisk! You’re just in time– we were showing each other our costumes.” They smiled back at him and replied. The quiet human’s voice was almost too soft to hear at times, but the house was pretty much quiet other than the muffled sizzling of food coming from the kitchen. “Both of your costumes look amazing. Mine’s so simple compared to yours, haha.” Frisk had on their normal blue sweater and brown shorts, only deciding to add a pink tutu and similarly pink ballet shoes in place of their normal boots. “For your first official holiday in the underground, you sure did decide to be painfully underwhelming.” Chara’s red eyes glared at the other human, her expression never straying far from annoyed. Frisk seemed to be taken aback in response to her snarky comment, immediately falling silent. Asriel however, reacted the opposite. He quickly turned back to face his sibling, who stared right back at him. “Chara! Be nice to them. Frisk hasn’t done anything to hurt us.” Many awkward seconds worth of silence passed before it was addressed again. “It’s okay, Azzy. I just– didn’t want to take up too many of you guys’ stuff making my own costume.” Chara huffed and simply looked the other way. The tension in the air was clear, but in a second it disappeared as Toriel walked into the dining room holding her signature recipe. All three of the children perked up when the scent of the cinnamon-butterscotch pie hit them. Asriel was the first one rushing to the dining table. The two humans followed shortly after, unsurprisingly sitting farthest from each other.
“I’m surprised none of you tried to sneak a slice of pie while it was cooling down!” The youngest goat monster let out a nervous laugh, well aware of the reason none of them tried to tip-toe their way into the kitchen. “Haha– ..yeah.” Toriel carefully set down the pie in the middle of the table as well as plates and silverware surrounding it. “You three be sure to eat, you’ve got a whole evening and night worth of candy collecting.” Chara beat Asriel and Frisk to the plates and managed to get the first slice. An abundance of steam almost immediately escaped from the pie after she cut into it. “As if I’d pass up an opportunity to have one of my favorite foods.” The human quickly took a bite out of her slice, oblivious to the fact that the inside was nearly as hot as it was when it was pulled out of the oven. Her hands met her mouth as if she intended to spit it out, but managed to actually eat it instead. Toriel immediately apologized. “Ah, Chara! Please do not eat so quickly! I apologize, the pie must’ve not cooled down enough in time.” Chara coughed a bit but was otherwise fine. She set her arm on the table and rested her head on the palm of her hand, just waiting for the others to finish eating their pie now. Toriel went to sit on her big chair sitting next to the currently lit fireplace. It’s cushions had white fur scattered across it, much like the white fur in the kitchen sink which was threatening to clog the drain. Asriel eventually took a slice of pie and, unlike his sibling, waited for it to cool before eating. Frisk simply sat there in silence. They felt unwelcome even though the Dreemurrs did everything they could to assure her they were welcome here. The only reason they felt that way was because of the other human, Chara, who seemed to have something against them. Frisk still didn’t know why she did, and apparently Asriel was on the same boat. “Frisk, are you going to have a piece?” Toriel spoke up, noticing their reluctance from her chair. She removed her reading glasses for just a moment. “You can’t survive off of just the candy you’ll be receiving, haha!” Despite the goat monster’s attempt to lift the mood a little, it did no good for Frisk, but they tried to look less down. “I’m sure I’ll be fine, but thank you. It’s still very hot anyways.” Toriel nodded and returned to reading her book. Despite Frisk’s claim of the pie still not being cooled enough, Asriel had already almost finished his slice. Chara hadn’t touched hers since her mouth was burned. Whether or not any of them were still hungry, it was definitely time to go. Asriel hopped up from his chair. “Come on guys, we have to get there in time for all the good candy!” Chara stretched her arms before replying. “You can go ahead, we’ll catch up with you, Azzy.” The young goat monster nodded and reluctantly headed out the door, leaving it slightly open for the two humans. Chara stood out of her chair and quietly pushed it in. She felt Frisk walk right past her. Before they could make it too far towards the door, they stopped when they heard their name being called. “Frisk.” Frisk turned around to look Chara in the eye. The other human walked up to them and glared. Silence filled the air for a few seconds until she spoke. “I’m the only one who can call him that.” They stared at her for a moment. “..What?” “Azzy. I’m the only one who can call him Azzy. That’s my nickname for him.” They’d only called him that nickname once earlier, so Chara’s sudden frustration was confusing. But Frisk felt no need to argue with her, especially since Toriel was within earshot. The other’s voice was hushed and quieter than it had been, so they assumed she didn’t want her mother to hear. “..okay.” She huffed and walked out the door. Not long after, Chara could be heard yelling for Asriel to wait up. Frisk stood there, contemplating whether or not it’d be better to just go back to their room. Chara would probably be happier if they did.
But this was their very first halloween in the underground– their very first holiday here at all, in fact. Frisk didn’t really want to stay cooped up in their room all night because of some rude human. They just felt like a burden to the family, knowing deep down that wasn’t true. They were far from a burden, the Dreemurrs hadn’t had anyone else fall into the underground other than Chara, and they seemed like they needed company. Asriel especially was excited about having a new friend around. Frisk sighed and built up the courage to head outside. From a distance, they could still see Asriel and Chara walking down to the city, trick-or-treating buckets in hand. They sprinted down the pathway towards them, eventually making it there. Asriel was the first to notice them approaching. “Ah, Frisk! I was worried you decided not to come with for a second.” He paused, glancing around. “..Did you bring a bucket to hold your candy in?” The goat monster’s question seemed to have just reminded them of their mistake. Frisk forgot to grab their bucket, which was currently sitting on the dining room table back at the house. Chara’s sudden problem with them likely contributed to their forgetfulness. It bothered Frisk, lingering in their mind ever since they noticed the frown upon the other human’s face when they met them both in the dining room. “Ah.. I did. I’m sorry, I can go back and get mine—“ “No worries! You can just share buckets with Chara.” And yet again, the air between the two humans became tense. Chara almost immediately butted in. “What?! Why?” “Because you have the biggest basket to hold candy in, duh. Yours could easily hold you and Frisk’s candy.” Asriel seemed blissfully unaware of the two’s rivalry, and sharing a bucket would only serve to cause more problems later on. Chara was silent for a couple of seconds, gripping the handle of her halloween basket tightly in anger. Anger which was bubbling up. To Asriel, it only looked like his sibling was upset about sharing. “..Fine. But I hold the bucket.” Frisk nodded, fidgeting with the sides of their pink tutu. The young goat monster smiled nervously, semi unsure of the compromise he’d helped form. His nervous demeanor didn’t last long however, sighing quietly and continuing the walk along the path to the city below them. “Are you guys coming with?” Frisk snapped out of it and joined Asriel in marching down the pathway. Chara soon followed. From where they were, the view of the underground city was quite the sight. Almost every building and house was decorated with fake pumpkins and other Halloween decor. Even after all this time trapped underground, the monsters still stuck with some of the traditions introduced to them by the humans generations ago. Windows and lanterns hung up were bright, but still left a comforting degree of dimness to the city. It was perfect. As Frisk walked with the Dreemurr siblings, they could barely take their eyes off of the view from the path down. It almost made them forget about their problematic encounter with Chara earlier.
“I heard there was a neat haunted house somewhere around. Wouldn’t that be fun?” Chara snickered. “All the little kids are too scared to even step near it, which means there will be plenty of room for us to explore it. No line to wait in either.” Asriel sheepishly giggled in response. “A haunted house? ..Are you sure?” His reluctance was clear in his voice even after his attempts to hide it. Chara couldn’t help but crack a smile. “Are you afraid, Azzy??” He quickly snapped back in embarrassment. “N-NO! I’m not!” “You’re such a scaredy-cat!! We aren’t even there yet and I can already tell you’re scared!” Asriel’s hands covered his face in an attempt to hide his embarrassed blush. Frisk, who was walking behind the two, decided to speak. “Why don’t we just go to the haunted house anyway? If Asriel isn’t scared, he’ll come with us.” Chara, for once, found herself agreeing with Frisk. “Yeaaahhh. Are you gonna come with us, Azzy?” Of course, Asriel agreed to go with them. He wouldn’t let himself decline, no matter how true Chara’s scaredy-cat claim was. So in an effort to prove he wasn’t, he accepted. “Duh, obviously I’m coming with. BUT FIRST— We have to go trick-or-treating. That’s like, the whole reason we’re going to the city.” He held up the bucket by the handle. “Ugghh, I guess so.” It was clear that the haunted house was the event Chara was most looking forward to. She didn’t like being patient, but the human would just have to deal with it until Asriel and Frisk were ready to do the haunted house— mostly Asriel. Frisk was very neutral about it, it seemed like they had no preferences on what activity to do first or last. “We’re almost to the city, and it doesn’t look like many kids are here yet. Which house are we going to first?” As they approached the bottom of the pathway leading them to the city, Chara and Asriel peered over the short stone wall which acted as a railing. It wasn’t long before Asriel pointed to a house near the entrance, a house which looked pretty welcoming to trick-or-treaters. A few pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns sat near their door, along with a lantern hung on their wall. “That one. And then we can go along the street and get all the good candy from those houses before the others get to it.” He seemed a tad competitive about it, actually. And he was right to be. By the end of the evening, all that’d be left in the candy buckets were old pieces of monster candy nobody wanted. Frisk nodded, eyeing the house he’d pointed to. “Alright, let’s go then!” Surprisingly, they took the lead this time in walking to their new destination. Asriel soon followed, and Chara walked casually beside him. She didn’t take trick-or-treating as seriously as the other two did. If she didn’t have such a dislike for Frisk, she’d let them hold the basket. But, spitefully, Chara kept the basket by her side as she walked. Eventually, the three made it to the house. Now that they were closer, the place could be seen in better detail. The jack-o-lanterns Frisk had spotted earlier were carved in such a way that made it look like a singular eye— with a sharp, toothy grin below it. It looked familiar, but they didn’t have to wonder why it was for very long. As the front door creaked open, a face with features similar to that carved into the pumpkin greeted them. It was a Loox. Frisk remembered seeing one of those a few months back when they were helped through the ruins by Asriel and Chara. They were about to answer, but Asriel beat them to it, holding his bucket out and waiting eagerly for candy. “Trick or treat!!”
The Loox smiled. “Ah, Prince Asriel! Hello! The trick-or-treaters are quite early this year, haha!” The monster grabbed a few pieces of candy from the basket near the front door and dropped them into his bucket. Chara didn’t hold out theirs yet, which prompted Frisk to nudge her a little and whisper. “Come on, hold out the bucket.” The other human huffed and did so, soon greeted with a couple pieces of candy. The Loox, still smiling their toothy grin, set the basket full of candy aside for the other trick-or-treaters soon to come flocking to the house. “Please, tell Queen Toriel and King Asgore I said hello.” Asriel smiled and nodded, his bucket now held by his side. “Of course! Thank you for the candy!” The door was shut a few moments later, and the three stepped off the stairs leading to the entrance of the house. Frisk looked towards Asriel. “Well, what'd ya get?” They peered over the side of his bucket and spotted a few good pieces of candy. Asriel proudly grinned. “See? The first people at the door always get the good stuff.” While Frisk and Asriel were busy conversing about their candy, Chara was distracted. She seemed to be staring at something in the distance, slightly squinting her eyes to see better. It wasn’t just something, it was, in fact, someone. Or some-two. The two monsters approaching caught the attention of Asriel this time, who’s expression lit up the moment he recognized them. “Sans! Alphys!” The young prince skipped over to the two and greeted them. “I didn’t expect to see you guys here yet!” They were both pretty easy to recognize, actually. Not many monsters looked the way they did. Alphys took the appearance of a yellow-ish reptile, and Sans, the shorter one, was a skeleton. Alphys adjusted her round glasses and smiled. “Hi, Asriel!” Sans greeted him as well, in the form of a simple wave. “heeyy, it looks like you guys had the same idea, gettin’ here early. Is the candy any good?” Asriel nodded. “Yeah, it is. What are you guys dressed up as?” The prince had a slightly confused look on his face. Rather than having a costume at all, Sans simply wore a piece of paper taped to his jacket with his name on it. “I’m going as myself, heheh. gaster made me wear this piece of paper though, otherwise i wouldn’t have done anything different. he said it’s, ‘at least somethin’. so, whatever.” Alphys however, obviously couldn’t wait for Halloween, nor could she wait to explain who her costume was supposed to be, speaking almost immediately after Sans got done. “I’m dressed as the main character from Mew Mew Kissy Cutie !!!!! She’s a magical human who has a giant wand, and cat ears, and–” Luckily for the rest of them, Alphys cut herself off, realizing she was about to start rambling. “Ah– Sorry–..” The lizard’s nervous demeanor returned after her apology. Asriel however, much to Alphys’s surprise, loved her costume. It reminded him of his own over-the-top Halloween costume, making him feel a little less out of place amongst the low effort or more average looking ones of his friends. “I think it’s great!! Yours is like mine, but more– pink. You did a really good job on it though, Alphy!” His kind and enthusiastic words looked as if it had a positive effect on her, making Alphys feel a little less anxious about it, and letting her smile return. “Oh, thank you!”
In the meantime, Frisk and Chara had been standing a few feet away, simply listening. Chara didn’t really feel up to the task of talking and being nice, possibly having something to do with the other human’s presence, and their still continued rivalry. However, Frisk stood a distance away for a much different reason. They’d only fallen from Mt. Ebott a few months ago, so they hadn’t gotten the chance to meet everybody here yet. Sans and Alphys were unfamiliar to them, explaining their hesitance. Asriel turned to them and called them over regardless though. He would truly be the worst individual to be around when socially anxious like Frisk currently was. But despite their reluctance, Frisk quietly walked on over. The prince happily introduced them. “This is Frisk! They are.. kind of new around here.” Sans raised a non-existent eyebrow in response. “woah, another human? when did they get here?” Alphys was intrigued as well, she’d heard rumors of another fallen human. The Dreemurr family didn’t really have a reason to hide the fact that another one fell, it just seemed like it wasn’t announced yet. Maybe it was to keep from overwhelming Frisk. Having nearly the entire underground’s eyes on you could be extremely stressful, especially for a child who’s not entirely familiar with the world they’d entered yet. But the human had definitely been spotted a couple times before, of course starting a rumor. “Hi, Fr-Frisk!” Alphys held out her hand to them, silently screaming at herself for letting her stutter appear once again. She almost pulled her hand back, but Frisk shook the lizard’s hand with a smile on their face, easing her slight panic. “Hello, Alphys. And–..” Frisk looked towards the skeleton standing near, waiting to be reminded of his name. “the name’s sans.” Their calm smile returning as they nodded. “It’s nice to meet you two, then.” Asriel joined back into the conversation after Frisk finished introducing themself. “Anyway, what are you guys planning to do? Other than trick-or-treating, of course.” Sans rested his hands in his pocket and leaned against a wall, already tired of standing. “probably just gonna get some candy and go home. papyrus would get bored if I stayed out too long, heheh. what about you guys?” Chara still happened to be listening in. Not like they couldn’t, due to the conversation happening only a few feet away from her. However, her attention was grabbed when Sans asked the trio what they planned on doing for Halloween. “Ah, later we’re gonna go t–” “A HAUNTED HOUSE” Chara’s sudden need to interrupt him just to say it herself slightly spooked Asriel. She was obviously very enthusiastic about going to the haunted house later that day. “It’s gonna be so much fun. But Asriel’s too much of a chicken to want to go.” The prince’s embarrassed blush from before returned as he glared at his sibling. “I never said that! I agreed to go with you and Frisk!” “It’s SOOOO obvious you’re scared, Azzy. You just won’t admit it!” “I am NOT!!” The bickering between Asriel and Chara would have continued if not for Alphys breaking them up. She nervously laughed as the two quieted down, Chara with a smug look on her face. As much as she loved monsters, she loved playfully tormenting her brother even more. “It’s– It’s okay, Asriel. I can’t do scary stuff like that e-either! Sssooo don’t worry about it.” He huffed and folded his arms. “...whatever.” “A-Anyway!! We should really be getting to our trick-or-treating–.. since we have yet to start. Haha” Asriel’s embarrassment from before had mostly faded by now. He felt bad for letting himself bicker with Chara in front of Alphys, Sans, and Frisk. Maybe that’s the reason Alphys felt now was the time to part ways. “Oh, okay. I’ll.. see you guys later then!” The lizard smiled before walking towards the house near them. Sans waved to the three, catching up to Alphys.
It was silent for a solid few moments. Not much else filled the quiet other than the distant, muffled sound of talking and the chirps of crickets. That, however, only lasted for a little while longer before a sound interrupted it. A wrapper. They both looked over to Chara who was currently unwrapping one of the candies from the bucket she held. The human didn’t consider unwrapping it quieter, but it wasn’t like it really mattered. She got it open and took a bite. It was chocolate, her favorite candy. Frisk looked mildly upset. “That’s our bucket, remember. Please don’t eat everything in it just yet, we’ve only gone to one house so far.” Chara shrugged. “Okay.” It was clear she didn’t care about what Frisk had to say about it, continuing to eat her chocolate bar. The quieter human could tell she would probably dismiss most of what they had to say. The other’s irrational grunge against them was really starting to get annoying. They still had no clue why Chara had this vendetta against them. Was it because she felt they were trying to replace her? Is it jealousy? Was it because they were a human too? Or did she just not like Frisk? But they simply inhaled and exhaled, deciding to just get over it instead. They weren’t named the Determination soul to give in and let Chara make them too angry. Not yet, at least. “..We should get going. Standing in silence is painfully awkward.” Surprisingly, Frisk took the lead in walking after their suggestion. Their mood seemed to dip a little, and Asriel definitely took notice. He caught up with them, leaving Chara walking behind the two. “ Uhh, Frisk– are you alright?” The human’s expression seemed ever so slightly off. It wasn’t their usual slight smile or soft expression they usually had on. Frisk quickly changed it when they looked over at Asriel. But he could still tell. “I’m okay, Asriel. I just spaced out for a second.” The prince hadn’t realized he was frowning. “..Are you sure? I don’t know, you looked like you were upset for a second–” “Sorry for worrying you, but as I said, I spaced out– that’s all. Why don’t you go walk with Chara instead?” They briefly glanced behind them. Chara was still eating her chocolate bar and tightly gripping the handle of the candy bucket. “She’d probably enjoy your company while we walk to the next house.” Asriel didn’t say anything for a few seconds, simply staring at the ground. Eventually, he nodded and went back to walking beside his sibling. Frisk sighed a quiet sigh of relief. They couldn’t imagine dragging down the mood on a holiday, so it was best that they didn’t tell Asriel what was bothering them. It was supposed to be a fun halloween, their first holiday in the underground. But Chara was making it harder to enjoy it. Though, as little as it may seem, Frisk liked walking in front of the group. It let them have more control over where the trio went, and what houses they stopped by. Just a tiny bit of control over how things went. They tried to focus on that instead. Time passed. Asriel, Chara, and Frisk spent a couple of hours following paths paved in the underground city, knocking on a multitude of doors, way too many to count. It gave Frisk a chance to kind of create a map of the huge area. They had no idea it was this big at all, actually. But the monsters had really built a home for themselves here. And they were all so kind. It made Frisk think of how the humans back in their home town described the monsters. They said the monsters were mean and vile creatures, always aggressive and looking to fight for little to no reason. They said that was why the war between them started, but the human child had quickly come to realize that it was far from the truth. It was funny, really. The humans above sounded like they were describing themselves. The underground had been nothing but nice to Frisk. ‘Mean’ and ‘vile’ weren’t words they would’ve ever used to describe the monsters, let alone their new family, who so graciously took them in and cared for them. And then it clicked. That’s why.
That’s why Chara’s treated them so horribly. She was so used to the type of humans who were ignorant and held grudges against monsters for no reason. Those were the humans who drove her to fall into the mountain. But Frisk didn’t dare to be rude to anyone in the underground. Even right after they fell and were greeted by Asriel, who was a monster, they didn’t utter a single word of disrespect. It’d finally clicked for Frisk, but even more questions popped up. How could they help Chara overcome her hatred towards her own kind? Would she ever be able to overcome it, or treat Frisk with kindness like they deserved? Frisk was so caught up in thought that they failed to realize they’d missed the house Asriel and Chara stopped at. The human only snapped out of it when they heard a voice calling for them. It was Asriel’s, he’d shouted Frisk’s name from the house he and Chara were at. They quickly sprinted back towards them. Right in time, as the owner of the house opened the door to greet the trick-or-treaters. “Sorry! I was just–” “Spaced out again?” They took a moment to catch their breath before speaking. “..Yeah.”
After the three collected the candy from the kind monster, they stepped off the front porch and walked onto the side of the street again. Asriel peered into his basket. The amount of candy they had at this point was enough to last them weeks after Halloween. He laughed proudly thinking about the children before them who weren’t early enough to grab the best candy. “See, Frisk! That’s how you do it each Halloween. It has never failed me.” Frisk laughed as well. They were quite hungry, now that they thought about it. The human didn’t even think to bring any snacks with them, and they didn’t even touch the pie Toriel baked for them before they left. Frisk regretted that decision now, they knew they would. But luckily, they had two buckets filled with candy. They turned to Chara who still insisted on holding the bucket. “Chara– you’ve been holding that thing the entire time we’ve been out. Isn’t it getting heavy by now?” She nodded. “Yeah, duh.” “So.. would you let me hold it for you? ..or are you still adamant on holding your grudge against me?” Frisk mumbled that last part, but Chara could tell what they said anyway. She glared at them. As much as she wanted to be stubborn about it, she couldn’t deny it felt like it was getting heavier and heavier as she held it. The handle barely held onto the sides of the bucket, so she’d resorted to holding the bottom with both her arms for the last half-hour. Chara stayed silent for a solid few moments, before letting out a loud huff and giving the bucket to the other human. Frisk almost immediately toppled over after it was practically tossed onto them by Chara. They quickly readjusted their way of holding it though, which was over their shoulder weirdly enough. It looked like it was uncomfortable, but Frisk found it easier to hold that way. “Thank you. See? Doesn’t it feel better not having to carry this thing around?” Chara simply walked past them without a single thanks. Not like Frisk expected one, anyway. Well, at least now they had control of the candy bucket, and that was well worth the weight they had to now carry. The human, remembering their hunger, took a few pieces of candy from the bucket and quickly ate them before they set back on their journey. Frisk turned to Asriel and Chara. “Which house are we going to next? I think there’s still a couple we haven’t visited–” Their voice was slightly muffled due to them still having candy in their mouth while speaking. “Ah.. that was the last one. Chara and I are a little tired. And we’ve been walking for hours, you know.” Asriel was right, they really needed a break, or just somewhere to sit down. Chara’s arms were especially tired, though that was partially a result of her own stubbornness. “Yeah. Just let us have a break or something for a little bit.” “Oh, sorry. You guys don’t have to ask me to take a break though– haaha. I’m not in charge or anything.” Chara didn’t wait for Frisk to reply, instead just sitting down where she was. Which was on the edge of the sidewalk, right beside the city path. Asriel sat down next to her too. He almost dropped his candy bucket due to how hard he just flopped down. Though he was quick to catch it and set it down gentler. “..Don’t you guys want to sit down somewhere else? We might get in someone’s way as they’re walking down here, it’s still pretty active.” Chara groaned tiredly. “Sure, I guess.” They both got up and moved to a spot farther away from the main path. It was a little dimmer over at the spot they chose, since it was further from the lanterns hung up. None of them minded though, they just needed a place to rest.
Asriel looked through his bucket, picking out his favorite pieces of candy. Chara glanced over at him, spotting some of the candy he had. Some of it was varying types of chocolate, some were hard candy, and some she couldn’t make out because of the darkness. “..Hmm. Asriel.” The goat monster continued sorting his candy, mainly focusing on that task. “Yeah?” “Look at what I got.” She held up a bubble gum candy, still in its wrapper. Asriel didn’t turn his attention over to Chara until a few seconds later, but as soon as he did, he gasped. “You got bubble gum!? Can I have it!?” He impulsively tried to grab it, but Chara moved her hand away just in time. “No. You have to trade for it. Look at all the candy you have, don’t think I’m gonna give this to you for free!” Asriel groaned. “Ugghh, okay. Hold on.” He spent the next minute digging through his bucket. Candy spilled over the side of the bucket as he dug, but he finally found one candy. One candy which he knew was at LEAST top 5 in Chara’s favorite candy list. Not that she had written a list, but she’d definitely talked about it a couple of times. Asriel smiled and showed her the candy, holding it up like it was a gem. “Here. How’s this one?” Chara squinted her eyes, staring at it and thinking. “Hmmmm… nah.” Asriel looked confused. “Huh? But I thought this was your favorite!” She smiled. “It iisss….. But just one? Come onnn, give me at least two pieces. Or three. Three is good.” “Ugh, you’re so greedy, Chara! ..Fine. But JUST for the bubble gum.” The prince picked out two more pieces of candy and handed them to his sibling, who happily took them. She handed him the gum in return, to which he instantly unwrapped and ate. “Careful not to swallow it, Azzy. I think those things stay in your stomach for like.. Seven..? Years?” She seemed unsure of the ‘fact’ she’d just presented to Asriel, but Chara went with it anyway. Frisk, who had been watching them trade candy and bicker for the past ten minutes, finally spoke. “Actually, that’s a myth. It’d be ridiculous for candy to stay in your system for seven years, it only stays for a few days– roughly.” Asriel felt slightly relieved, not like he was planning to actually swallow the gum, but it was nice to know he wasn’t stuck with it for years to come if he did. Chara rolled her eyes. She didn’t like being corrected, especially by Frisk. “Shut up, you don’t even know if that’s true.” Frisk raised an eyebrow. “Um, yes I do. I was probably on the surface longer than you were. I still remember some of the things school taught me.” “Whatever.” Chara seemed to be less mean when she was tired. If Frisk had corrected her earlier, she might’ve been less inclined to brush it off. But for now, all she really wanted to do was eat some candy. Frisk saw this as progress however. They smiled, maybe Chara was warming up to them.
The trio sat there for roughly half an hour more until one of them stood. It was Chara. “Okay. I’m ready, let’s go.” Nobody said anything for a few seconds, Frisk and Asriel still sitting down. They looked up at the human in confusion. Asriel spoke. “...What? Where?” She looked down at him. He had like ten candy wrappers surrounding him. Obviously, the monster had no self control when it came to sweets. But Chara already knew that, so she didn’t really care. “To the haunted house, dummy. It’s not like I’ve been talking about it all night!” Asriel’s expression quickly changed from confused to displeased. Even though he said he’d go, it wasn’t something he was at all looking forward to. “Do weee haave toooo?” “Uh, yeah. We’re not going home until all three of us go in. That’s including you, Azzy.” Frisk sighed and stood as well. They were pretty close to dozing off, but they weren’t opposed to the haunted house idea. It would wake them up pretty quick. “Didn’t you say you weren’t afraid?” Frisk chimed in. Asriel frowned. “Fine.” The prince stood, leaving his bucket of candy on the ground. Frisk glanced at the buckets surrounded by wrappers. “Our candy will probably be safe here. I haven’t seen anyone wander over here. Not in the time that we’ve been here at least.” Chara and Asriel nodded. He was still chewing on the bubble gum given to him from earlier. It surprisingly hadn’t lost all it’s taste yet, but even if it did, Asriel would likely still chew it. “Come on, I think I know where it is.” Chara led the way this time, with Frisk and Asriel following closely behind. As they walked along the path, they all noticed the dropping activity of trick-or-treaters. There weren’t nearly as many as there were when they first got here. It wasn’t surprising, though. The number of people going door to door asking for candy is bound to decrease as the night progresses. But as people disappeared, the eeriness of the city slowly rose. Lanterns which were hung up near evening started to flicker. Some had already lost their light completely, leaving parts of the city darker than others. Asriel was especially affected by this slow change. It was obvious he was the scaredy-cat of the group, no matter how much he tried to deny it. He glanced around as Chara led the way. “Are– are we almost there yet..?” Asriel’s voice seemed a little shaky, and his sister noticed. “Aww, so you ARE scared.” Chara laughed. “Yeah, I think we’re almost there. It’s a little further into the city. Try not to faint on the way there– HAHA” Asriel didn’t respond, only crossing his arms and continuing to walk. He’d find a way to get back at her, scare the living crap out of Chara somehow. It was only fair, with how much she teased him. He’d think of a way, but for now, he just wanted to get this haunted house thing over with.
As they approached the building, they spotted more people. The streets were practically empty until now, it seemed as if most of them flocked over there. Chara perked up as soon as she saw it, squinting her eyes to see a little better. “There it is! Come on!” She nearly started running there, and soon followed Frisk. Asriel just decided to walk, eventually catching up with them. It was then he noticed there was a line they all had to wait in. Asriel sighed a sigh of relief. Good, this buys him some more time before he has to face his fears. Chara reacted the opposite however. She couldn’t wait any longer. “Ughh. Stupid line, now we have to wait for like– hours.” “Hours? That seems like a bit of an.. Exaggeration. Usually lines like these only have a waiting time of roughly fifteen minutes or so.” Chara glared at Frisk. “What? Just an estimate.” “Did you wake up today and decide to be a smartass?” They rolled their eyes and put their hands in their pockets. The human took this chance to simply look around. The building had string lights, fog, and fake cobwebs decorating it, and the lights were all an eerie red hue. It didn’t scare Frisk at all. They’d seen scarier decorations on the surface. It was almost humorous, considering how humans made the underground out to be a super scary place.
Eventually, the line moved, and they all made their way to the entrance. It was then that they were greeted by a taller monster. It was one that, again, Frisk didn’t recognize. Though it was quite an interesting one. It had the head of a horse, the torso of a human, and the lower half of a… mermaid? Something like that. Frisk stared up at the monster’s face. It was too busy flexing it’s muscles to notice them, so Chara let their presence be known by throwing a pebble from the ground at it and effectively grabbing the monster’s attention. “Ohh, my dearest apologies. You three are so small and quiet! ..Do your parents know you’re here?” That wasn’t something they’d thought about at all, actually. Toriel and Asgore did, in fact, not know that they were here, but they weren’t about to rat themselves out like that. Asriel tried to speak, but ended up stuttering. Chara stepped in front of him quickly so he didn’t make a fool out of himself. “Yup! We got special permission to enter the haunted house.” Her smile never faltered, determined to keep up the lie. The monster thought about it for a little bit, rubbing his chin with his finger. “Wait! You’re the Queen and King’s children, aren’t you? No worries then! I’ll just ask them next time I see them!” The three froze, glancing at each other in quiet panic. Asriel was visibly nervous. He rarely ever got in trouble with his parents, and something like this would mess up his streak of.. Not-getting-in-trouble? Chara could tell he was getting anxious, so she side-eyed him in hopes that he’d get the message not to do anything stupid. Asriel either completely ignored that message or failed to receive it at all, because he blurted out seconds later. “UHH– WE’RE SORRY!! WE–” Frisk had already accepted their fate at this point, but Chara jumped to save the day– or night. She forcefully covered his mouth with her hand to shut him up and quickly thought of a solution. “Weeeee arrreee sorry that–.. That I threw a pebble at you. Yeah. I’m so sorry, please forgive me. He freaks out about that sometimes, you know. HAHA.” Chara didn’t remove her hand covering Asriel’s mouth until the taller monster spoke, confused at this point. “..............Okay!! Well, enjoy your haunted house experience..?” It stepped aside and let the children through. Chara kept a smile on her face as she walked past, all while her fist was balled up. Once she was sure they were far enough into the building, Chara turned to azzy and flicked him on the nose, right in between his eyes. “What the HECK is wrong with you! You were gonna rat us out!” Asriel’s paw rubbed the spot where Chara had flicked him, wincing slightly in pain. “Oww– I’m sorry, I just didn’t want to get in trouble! Mom would be so mad if she found out– no, WHEN she finds out we’re here. That guy recognized us, this was a terrible idea!” Chara glared at him. “Well! We’re already here, so suck it up and stop being stupid!” The two siblings never seemed to stop arguing with one another. The sibling rivalry was obvious. Frisk stepped in between the two, her attention mostly towards Chara, who was definitely the antagonist in this situation. “Calm down, both of you. It wasn’t Asriel’s fault, this whole thing was obviously making him nervous. You just want someone to blame, Chara. But the blame is on you for leading us into this situation if we do end up getting found out.” She was silent after that, but the frustration was prominent in her expression. “Fine. Let’s just get through this t–” Chara was unexpectedly interrupted by the lights, which were very loud when they turned on. It looked to be similar to the lights from outside, the ones which glowed red. These lights practically drowned the room in a dark red color. It somewhat spooked the children, but Chara put on a brave face. Frisk was trying to comfort Asriel for the time being. Suddenly, a booming, disembodied voice rang throughout the room. “WELCOME TO THE UNDERGROUND HOUSE OF HORRORS !!”
It sounded like it came from further down the room, but none of them had the guts to go and check it out. Things were getting increasingly chaotic as time passed. Eventually, one of them had to go first, or at least lead the way. Unsurprisingly, Chara decided to do so. But not before a sigh and some mental preparation. She truly wasn’t as fearless as she acted, and that was about to become very clear. As they very reluctantly and cautiously walked along the haunted house, several things popped out at them, scaring them each time. Most of them were simply detailed props, but some of them were actors, directed to scare each and every person who dares pass by. One of them which Frisk spotted, because they were the only ones who hadn’t shut their eyes closed in fear, was a snowdrake. Fake blood dripped from it’s head and wings. It slithered back into the hole in the wall it popped out of, leaving behind a slightly visible trail of fake blood. “Did you guys see that!?” Frisk shouted. Asriel obviously did, because he let out a screech as soon as the snowdrake popped out. Chara opened her eyes again and kept walking. They were all walking a lot slower than they thought they were, just because they stopped so many times as they kept falling for props and actors who popped out. Sometimes they’d come through the floor, or the wall, and some props would even jumpscare them from the ceiling. At this point, Chara grabbed Frisk and placed them in front of her and Asriel, forcing them to be the one to walk first, as she’d done the first half of the house. “Hey! I’m not going first–” She interrupted Frisk by shoving them forward. “I don’t care! I went first for half of this stupid place already! YOU go!” The house was extremely foggy, making it so much harder to see, and even more terrifying to be the one leading. Frisk squint their eyes trying to see better to no avail. Screams and loud noises added to the absolute chaos and intensity. They could barely hear themselves speak, having to shout just to be heard. The trio eventually met a door after walking for long enough. The chaotic noise at this point had quieted down, but they were by no means calmer. Frisk was still leading against their will, with Chara and Asriel cowering behind them. “Open the door!” She slightly shoved them. Frisk shoved her hand back. “Stop rushing me!” Chara rolled her eyes. “If something pops out I’m running.” Asriel’s head snapped back to her. If Chara ran, then he’d be all alone. Other than Frisk of course, but he’d prefer if his sibling were here too. Asriel grabbed her arm in case she did take off. Frisk couldn’t stall any longer. All they had to do was turn the knob and open the door. Maybe this was the exit, even though it didn’t feel like it. They inhaled and held their breath as their hand met the knob, slowly turning it. Once it was turned all the way, they pushed and the door slowly creaked open. It was painful waiting for something, anything to happen. Every one of them was dead silent and staring directly into the void the door opened to. It was so dark in there that not one of them could make out anything in there. Frisk, bravely, was the first to step into the room. They glanced around, and once nothing happened for a few seconds, which felt like minutes, the human signaled for Asriel and Chara to follow. The two were extremely reluctant at first, but they did. They kept tip-toeing into the room until all three of them were completely in the pitch black room. The only light provided was the light from the former room. And soon, that light would be gone too, as the door behind them slammed shut, making all of them jump so hard they might’ve accidentally hit the actor next to them. Good thing they didn’t. wait.
All three of them screamed as they noticed the monster standing right next to them. It shrieked back, scaring them even more. The room’s dim lights finally turned on, revealing the appearance of the actor. It was a.. Dog? A dog in armor, which looked to be from snowdin. In any other context, it wouldn’t have been as scary as it currently was, but the dog surprised the living daylights out of them after a painful suspense. And Chara kept to her word. She yanked her arm from Asriel and bolted out of the room. There was actually a door blocking her exit, but she used her shoes to break it down. Any other door would’ve been tougher to break through, but this one’s wood was old and rotting. Chara ran through the rest of the house, ignoring all the actors who didn’t even have time to pop out of the wall and scare her because she was running so fast. The rest of the house was just a series of tunnels and long hallways. She felt a massive wave of relief wash over her as soon as she spotted light. Real light, from the city, instead of the dark red string lights hung up all over these rooms. It motivated her to keep running, even when her legs started aching. Finally, Chara made it to the exit. She threw herself outside and landed on the grey brick floor of the city. She didn’t even move for a good couple of minutes, simply laying on the ground. She would’ve fallen asleep if it weren’t for her heart beating a million miles a second. Even if she did fall asleep though, she would have been woken up not too long after by Asriel and Frisk. By the looks of it, they seemed to have run out of the house too, because they were an absolute mess by the time they got out. Frisk sat and leaned against a wall with a death glare on their face, directed right towards Chara. Their anger was reasonable, Chara just ditched them with no hesitation or even a single second thought. “WHY. Did you DO THAT. You left us there!” She huffed, still regaining her breath. “I warned you guys beforehand that I’d run. Did you think I was bluffing?” “Um. Yes????? I had to DRAG Asriel by the arm through the rest of the house while he was screeching like a little girl. And don’t you dare make a snide comment or treat me like garbage after this. I’ve acted more like a sibling to him than you have this entire night.” All three of them were silent after what Frisk said. Asriel didn’t know how to reply to that, but the anger radiating off Chara was all too clear. He could tell the two humans were about to absolutely go at it. “Excuse me??” She sat up. “All you did was drag him through the haunted house!” “And all you’ve done is tease him for the entire night! At least I did ONE thing nice. More than one thing, actually!” Asriel was getting extremely tired of their arguing already. He stood up and spoke. “Stop it BOTH of you! All that matters is that we got through it. I don’t completely understand what the deal is with both of you, but can we please just have a few moments of peace?!” Frisk and Chara stopped and stared at him. His request worked, the arguing did stop for now. They were more surprised at how confrontational Asriel suddenly was. He was obviously stepping out of his comfort zone, yelling like that. And so Chara respected that. She simply turned away from Frisk and rested her head on the palm of her hand. Frisk glanced around. “Sorry, Asriel.” “No– I apologize.. For shouting– I just don’t like it when you guys argue..”
More silence followed. It lasted at least ten minutes. But, surprisingly, Chara was the one to break the silence. And something even more shocking followed. “..I’m sorry– Frisk.” The other human looked up at her, confused. ..Sorry? Why did she apologize? Frisk didn’t say anything, but they were trying to rationalize the random apology in their head. Asriel made Chara realize that her dislike for Frisk was hurting him. He didn’t like seeing them down because she made them feel that way. And Chara hated seeing Asriel truly upset, as much as she playfully teases him. Her grudge against Frisk and the rest of the humans wouldn’t go away in a snap, and it was far from that point, but maybe an apology would pave the road for some progress to be made. Frisk smiled, even if they failed to make sense of it right now. They stood up. “Our candy might still be where we left it, if no kids stole it. We should go check on it on the way back home.” Asriel nodded, already standing. “I forgot about our candy! Yes, we have to go get it. Come on, Chara.” She looked up and weakly smiled as well. Her smile was partially because she remembered all the chocolate she’d collected in her bucket. Chara couldn’t wait to eat it, getting herself up off the ground. “Yeah, let’s go.”

Systematic Restore - Chapter One: The Fall
SR is an alternate timeline which occurs in Undertale’s past. Thank you in advance for reading!
“ Is.. is she alive? ”
A concerned voice broke the silence, not long after, another one replied. “ I don’t know, it was a long fall. “ There was a short pause before any more words were spoken, they seemed to be observing the still human currently laying on the ground. “ ..How in the world did you survive when you fell? “
“ My poor, naive, brother; I’m the toughest of my kind. It takes a lot more than a little fall to bring me down. “ The male voice huffed. “ You’re just lucky the flowers were there to break your fall, like they did with her. “ He glanced over towards the unfamiliar human.
“ Whatever. “ The girl said. She quickly hushed as she noticed movement from the other human. “ Wait— shh, I think they’re starting to come around. “
My eyes flickered open, and the moment they do, I’m greeted with an intense pain. It felt like thousands of needles were jammed into my body all at once. I didn’t dare move yet, fearing the possibly of the pain becoming worse. But I suck in a breath of air anyways and nearly cried out in pain, taking more shallow breaths from then on. My eyes weren’t used to the darkness, so it took them a few moments to adjust to my surroundings. When they did, two figures instantly caught my attention. And as I blinked, they became clearer.
One had brownish red, shoulder length hair, a green sweater with two yellow stripes, and brown pants. She was looking at me like I was a suspect in a crime scene investigation.
The other seemed to be a young, humanoid goat monster. His outfit matched that of his comrade. He seemed excited. Though, all I wanted to know was where I had ended up. I was still filled with confusion, and everything around me was unfamiliar.
The strange goat boy extended his paw out to me. “ Do you need help? “ I looked at him, puzzled, and a little afraid. He smiled, which seemed to ease my nerves just a little bit.
“ Don’t worry human, we won’t hurt you! “ He turned to his sister, who was standing to the side with her arms folded. “ Right, Chara? “
“ Hmph, speak for yourself. “ The goat monster gave her a look for a moment, the girl changing her answer shortly after. “ I’m only joking.. kind of. “ She mumbled that last word before sticking her tongue out. The monster sighed and turned his attention back towards me, once again offering his paw. “ Sorry about my sister, she’s being a little stubborn right now. Here, we’ll lend you a hand. “ The girl interrupted, “ We will? “ She seemed mildly shocked. “ Yes! It’d be mean not to! “ Her brother blurted back.
Still hesitant, I took his paw. He quickly put my arm around his shoulder, helping me stand. The goat monster’s volume lowered a bit, now directly speaking to me, as if he was about to tell me a secret. “ I apologize about her behavior. She just doesn’t trust other humans for some reason.. and has yet to tell me why. “ His voice returned to normal volume. “ Oh! By the way, my name is Asriel— Asriel Dreemurr. And that is Chara! “ He gestured over towards his sister. I glanced at her for a second, she was pretending to be interested in a buttercup flower for some reason. Maybe in an attempt to ignore me. I brushed it off.
“ Come on, Chara. Help me out! “ Asriel pleaded, his shoulder already becoming slightly tired. Chara rolled her eyes and eventually got up to help her brother. She got on the other side of me and helped me walk to an unknown destination.
I knew I should’ve been afraid at the sight of a monster, or at least extremely skeptical, but I was in too much pain to care, even with Chara and Asriel’s support. Although, something about the monster seemed so kind, so non-threatening and welcoming. Maybe it was the harsh difference between him and the other human. She seemed.. so cold— and hostile.
But if he *was* going to eat me, like all the monsters do in the stories I’ve heard, I doubt I could put up much of a fight— or even care.
It was a slow an agonizing walk through what seemed to be an underground city. Asriel kept talking the whole way while Chara muttered incoherent words under her breath, ones I couldn’t hear anyway.
“ By the way.. “ Asriel finally paused. “ What’s your name? ..And which human settlement are you from? “ Honestly, it took me a moment to remember my name. I was so disoriented. But eventually, I got to it. “ It’s— Frisk. And I’m from.. I’m.. from… “ I couldn’t remember. How hard did I hit my head? The only thing I could recall was me waking up down here. I don’t even know how I got here, let alone who I am. Besides my name and age, of course.
Chara still looked skeptical. It was clear she hadn’t an ounce of trust in me. But Asriel continued to speak to me. “ So.. you don’t remember anything about yourself? Your nationality, parents— “ I shook my head before he could finish. Nothing. “ That’s strange. “ Asriel replied, looking a little concerned.
After a while, I tuned him out. Who am I? Why or how did I end up here? I know nothing, and yet I’m letting these two complete strangers lead me to an unknown location, through the underground. It’s not like I have any other options.
Suddenly, I was jolted out of my thoughts by Asriel. He stopped and pointed towards something, I squinted my eyes trying to make it out. It looked like a house. Relief washed through me. Maybe this meant I wouldn’t have to walk anymore, each step was agonizing.
“ Look! We’re almost home. “
Sure enough, after some more walking, a small but cozy looking cottage that seemed to be jutting out of the purple brick wall behind it popped into clearer view. In front of the house was a decently large tree, full of life and blossoming prosperously. The leaves themselves seemed to shine and glow a luscious emerald green color. Strange, because it had no sunlight. But it was obvious lots of love and care went into the tree.
I turned my head to see decorative vines lined up on the brick wall and on both sides of the entrance. But my attention was easily pulled away by the smell of a delicious homemade cinnamon-butterscotch pie, instantly making my stomach rumble. “ Don’t worry. Once we get inside, we’ll have mom patch you up. “
Chara sighed a sigh of relief, as if she’d been carrying a ton on her shoulders. “ Thank god. You’re not exactly light, you know. Not light enough to be half-carried on a 20 minute walk. “ Asriel nudged her with his elbow. “ Don’t be rude, Chara. Help me take Frisk inside. “ Chara looked slightly annoyed, but did so anyway. Her only response was a huff. She readjusted her grip on my arm, and together, the three of us made our way through the entrance of their strange but inviting looking home.

Systematic Restore: Chapter Two-The Meeting
Be sure to read chapter 1 here:https://www.youtube.com/post/UgycJ3xtiJdE_pIrHE94AaABCQ?app=desktop
We made our way into the abode. "Mom, Dad, We're home!" Asriel Called Out. A soft voice called from somewhere in the back of the house. "Asriel, Chara, welcome back did you two have fun?" A white furred hand appeared from the hallway and what followed was a goat like monster, though her appearance was similar to that of Asriel, she was clearly older and had a more slim/curvy figure. She was dressed in a vibrant purple robe with black lines and markings adorned on it. she had on a warm smile that made you feel like everything would be alright.
However her smile turned to that of shock as soon as she realized that I was there. Her eyes widened and she quickly rushed over to me. "Asriel, Where did you find this human!" "The same way I found Chara, in the bed of flowers that dad planted beneath the hole at the mountains top." Chara Chimed in. "We were wondering around the ruins playing when we heard a loud thud echoing across the ruins so we followed the sounds and we found them!"
Asriel Pointed at me. "Anyways we brought them home because they're injured, I tried to heal them the best I could, it was enough to just barely get them to walk with our support but..."Say no more Asriel." Human, If you are able, I would like for you to take a seat in the kitchen. "The Four Of Us made our way into the kitchen. After I was seated Toriel Started getting to work, she held out her hands and suddenly they were surrounded in flames.
"Wait! I cried out, are you going to burn me!" "I wish", Chara muttered under her breath just loud enough to where only I and Asriel could hear. Asriel shot his sister a disappointed look and she pretended not to notice.
"Don't worry, It'll be ok." The Monster Woman Unleashed The Flames and they started to surround my body, I was terrified, I closed my eyes. knowing that my body was about to be burned, I could almost feel the burning pain and the smell of charred flesh crossed my nose....however, it never came. instead of a burning demise, my body felt warm, like a silk blanket was covering me.
I opened my eyes, My body was still surrounded by flames. but these weren't like any fires I ever knew. they felt...nice, warm and cozy. My aches and pains slowly started to melt away, the pain in my leg slowly dispersed as more and more of the womans flames covered me. not a single spot on my body was flame free. this feeling. I was so at peace, I almost never wanted it to end. but it did.
As soon as she started, she stopped. "There, that should do it, can you try standing on your own now human?"
I gingerly pushed my feet to the floor and stood up. I was expecting shooting pain, but none came, all of the aches and pains I had since waking up down here were all but a memory, I was as pain free as I could ever remember being. "Miss?, What kind of magic is that?" "It's healing flame magic of course. Oh my did I scare you? Oh my, what a poor, terrible creature i've been, scaring such a poor innocent youth! please forgive me young one."
"No no." I protested, "I'm incredibly grateful for healing me" "What is your name child?" Asriel spoke up,. They said their name was Frisk, but they don't remember anything about their past or how or why they got here!
"Frisk huh? You have a lovely name?" She smiled her warm smile, I kind of blush and look away. she continued, "Well in any case since you don't have a place to stay why don't you stay with us for a bit!" "Chara nearly cried out. "Mom! are you sure thats a good idea?
We don't even know them, we don't know what kind of human they're like!" "Come now Chara, it can't be that bad, after all, you're human too aren't you?" Chara looked down at her feet. "Yea but..." Toriel gently held Charas head in her paw, If you're truly concerned about Frisk, why don't you keep an I on them? after all, you know your race better than we do, keep an eye on them, im pretty sure that you two will get along just fine, after all, you need some new friends than just monsters."
Chara sighed in defeat. "Your right, it's not like we can just let them wonder around aimlessly without anywhere to go while they're here." "Don't worry Chara, Think of it as having another sibling around that we can prank and have fun with!" Asriel's tail started wagging excitedly. I looked down, feeling uneasy. "Are you sure you want me to stay? I don't want to be a bother. " "Nonsense, The Lady replied, we have plenty of room. As a matter of fact I just made dinner!" At the mention of food my stomach started growling again. reminding me that I was hungry. "It should be finished in a bit.
Meanwhile, Asriel? Chara? Why don't you show Frisk Your Room? You three can hang out their while I get the guest room set up! "Okay." They both replied. "By the way, mom? wheres dad?" Asriel asked. "You're Father Had some business to take care of, he's running a little late getting home, but he should be back in time for dinner, now run along now while I get everything set up!" "Come on Frisk"
Asriel Led Me into the hall-way with Chara following suit, there were four bedroom doors lined down the end. we stopped at the first one. there where two beds across the rooms from each other, in between them was a tv set and a gaming system. but it didn't look like any brand I was familiar with. at the foot of one of the beds was a toy chest. filled with stuffed animals, toy cars, action figures and various trinkets. On the wall behind the beds sitting above, was a portrait of Asriel, Chara, The Woman, and another monster that looked like Asriel and Toriel. but again, he was clearly older than Asriel. this must have been his father. I examined it closely and I noticed he and the woman were both wearing Crowns.
I looked at Asriel and Chara, looking for an explanation with my eyes. Asriel Seemed to notice that I seen the picture. Oh we forgot to tell you? We're the rulers of the monster kingdom! My mom is the queen, my father is the king. and I'm the prince, and that would make Chara the princess!
"anyway, think nothing of it" Chara Replied, "Let's just play some games until dinner is ready, I don't feel comfortable with you in the same room as me and my brother. honestly, it "Chara! Be nice", Asriel responded
honestly if it was up to me, you'd still be back at that flower garden, I can't wait till mom fixes that room up so you can get out of ours." I looked down, kind of intimidated. "Again, I apologize for Chara's behavior" Let's just play until dinner is ready! He smiled and it was plain to see who he got it from"
Some time has passed and the kind lady called us out for dinner, As we were making our way into the kitchen, the door to the entrance swung open and a male voice called out, "Toriel, I'm home! you wouldn't believe the day I had" A figure came into view, it was the same creature that I had seen in the picture with Asriel, Chara and Toriel. The Woman named Toriel responded back, Welcome back, how was work today? "busy as usual, you wouldn't believe how much paperwork I had to sign."
The man came into view, a look of mild surprise greeted his face as soon as his eyes laid on me, oh my goodness, and who is our guest? I looked shyly away, he was a fairly big guy, towering over Toriel by at least a couple of feet, "My Names Frisk Sir" "Now, now, no need to be shy, I won't bite. Not yet anyway, "Asgore, don't scare the poor human! oh come toriel, I was only teasing them!" "How did you get here Frisk? Asgore gave me an inquisitive look, I honestly don't remember anything about my past. all I know is that i woke up down here. in a bed of golden flowers from the top!"
I see, so you fell, perhaps that explains the reason for your memory loss, you must have hit your head and passed out, forgetting everything. Oh well, I'm sure your memory will return sooner or later." Asgore also gave me a kind smile, what is it with this family and their smiles? they all could melt cold hearts!" When I First woke up and met Asriel, I had my doubts about him and Monsters in general, but if they were all as nice and kind as these monsters were, then perhaps my stay down here wouldn't be so bad!
We had dinner of salted snail escargo, at first I turned my nose because who eats snail? but eventually I succumbed to the hunger and gingerly took a small bite of one. and too my surprise it was heavenly. I quickly tore into my plate. Asriel, Asgore, Toriel and Chara both watched with a mixture of horror and shock. Asgore was the first to recover. "...My my, it seems someone was hungry."
Don't eat too fast now, we still gotta save room for dessert" "I'm sorry, It's just ive been ravenous ever since I woke up" "Don't worry! there's plenty more to go around!" Toriel got up and filled my plate again. After Dinner was dessert, which was the pie I was smelling when we arrived. It was like nothing I've ever tasted before, in short. it was perfection.
After Dinner, Toriel showed me to my new room. here's where you'll be sleeping for as long as you stay with us. I already took the liberty of enrolling you into school for the start of the next school year. I think it's important that you learn about our customs and ways!" I nodded my thanks for the hospitality. "Get ready for bed, it's late and I have a feeling You'll wanna be well rested as Im sure Asriel and Chara well want to introduce you to their friends!" I nodded in agreement and got into bed and closed my eyes, "Good night Frisk" Toriel proceeded to exit and I heard the door close behind me.
Perhaps, this wouldn't be so bad after all. My head started to hurt but it was minor, so I ignored it and fell asleep.
