A Snake and A Curse
[Part 2]
A trip to the past ... and flashbacks.
You may get confused so to clarify, all up until the line break is told in Fell’s view. Even in the flashbacks. That’s why I didn’t bother putting divisions as the flashback are all italics (I tend to do this style).
Pairing: Kustard (eventually)
Words: 1, 039
Once he finished cooking, the tall skeleton looked to his brother who was sleeping on their couch. He couldn’t help shaking his head at what a lazy bones the latter had become. His attempts to make the other more active went down the drain when his brother kept skipping, and he had long since given up on that part.
Thinking about it now, Fell was reminded of the time when he first met the short skeleton.
It was a night like any other with his father coming home late and by then he was ten years old.
The door opened and closed swiftly when his father arrived, carrying something that was wrapped in cloth. He also looked to be out of breath, and he wondered what was wrong.
“Dad?”
“Fell, I need you to fill the basin over there with some warm water.”
He did so as quickly as he could without spilling anything and came back to his father sitting on the couch. His eye sockets widened as his father unwrapped what he was holding. “I-Is that …”
“Yes … I found him on my way back from the forest.” The tall skeleton wet the cloth, squeezing the excess clean up the sleeping baby bones.
Seeing another one of his kind was new and rare. And to think that his dad would just find one in the forest at that.
“What about his parents?”
“… I met his mother, and …” The skeleton wore a tired and forlorn expression as he cleaned the tiny feet to finish up. “Go fetch your clothes when you were just baby bones. I think I kept them in the box behind the jackets.”
There was a frown on his face when he went to get them, and his father chuckled when he came back, still pouting.
“Don’t worry, I’ll tell you. You’re smart and old enough to know anyway.” The tall skeleton took a light purple hue baby romper that had a design that said ‘Hero in training’ and began dressing the little one; making sure to be careful not to wake him up. “The mother was on the brink of death. She was too far gone to save … I just happened to be passing by, and when she saw me, she begged me to take her child and take care of him.”
His dad finished buttoning up the baby bones, and got up to lay him on Fell’s bed. “How could I have possibly refused?”
He looked at his father before down at the small monster.
“How do you feel about being a big brother, Fell?”
His head shot up at his dad. “Me? A big brother?”
“That’s right. Red will look up to you so you need to set a good example.”
“Red?” He looked to sleeping baby bones with newfound awe that he just got a little brother. “So that’s his name.”
Red was starting to stir awake, and he was met with big bright red eye lights.
“Uh … Hi?”
Red giggled happily in response and his soul leapt at how adorable his baby brother was. With more confidence, he said, “Hey little bro. I’m Fell, your big brother. And starting today, you’ll be part of our family now.” There were happy gurgling noises for his efforts, and he found himself smiling brightly. He used his point finger, to which Red latched onto, for a makeshift handshake.
Fell realized he was smiling at the memory, and he chuckled before shaking his head for being so sentimental. Since then, Red had more or less grown much attached to him, although he still couldn’t get the latter be just as active as he was.
His eye lights caught the sight of the dark engravings that was now midway of his brother’s right forearm, and suddenly, his good mood became solemn.
Before his father passed away, he had warned him about Red getting a mark when he hit a specific age. It was six when it happened, and his little brother came crying to him in worry when he saw it.
When he saw the mark, his eye sockets widened before they were immediately filled with understanding. ‘So, it had started. Father was right. You’re...’
“It's all right, Red.
The small skeleton hiccupped even as he attempted to wipe the large tears away. “Am I dying?”
“Of course not. This mark is a good thing.”
“G-Good?”
“Yes! So don't you worry about it, all right?” He patted his brother’s head, who had more or less calmed.
“W-What is it anyway?”
“… When you're old enough, I'll tell you.”
He supposed that the time was nearing when he really did need to tell Red what it meant. It was truly unfortunate that the townspeople wasn’t as … accepting as he’d hoped they’d be. But at the very least they were tolerating enough to not be rude to his little brother. Though, in the future …
Fell shook his head again to rid of dark thoughts. It was okay. As his big brother, he would protect Red no matter what. He’ll do whatever it took to keep the smile on his brother’s face.
He lied on his bed, weak and frail, but his voice still carried strength, “Fell, when the time comes, there will be a mark that will appear on Red’s arm and it'll continue to grow... I have feeling that he won't be ... well-received by the townspeople because of it. And the braver ones might do something.”
His son, now a teen, wore a determined and serious expression. He couldn’t help smiling at how proud he was of not just Fell, but of Red as well. Such magnificent sons he had. “Don’t worry, dad. I'm going to protect Red no matter what.”
He sighed. “... I have don't doubt that you will.” And his son left to pick up Red from school.
When the door closed, he closed his eyes and knew his time had come. “I'm so sorry, my sons. I hope there will be happiness in your futures… and that my visions were wrong.” Even as he took his last breath, his thoughts swirled with uneasiness for his sons’ destinies.
A parent will never stop worrying.
Phew, that was a lot of background explaining. :D
Everything seems to be looking good. XD
Yup, Red is adopted. Hi! :D
Thanks for the interest in this ‘long oneshot’. XD The kustard will happen guys. I swear. Patience. I’m just as (maybe?) excited as you are when Red meets Sans. XD
Thanks for reading m(__ __)m

A Peoples’ Primer on The Korean War {“The Forgotten War”} ~ June 25, 1950 – July 27, 1953
Even with promotional stunts like former NBA player Dennis Rodman and three Harlem Globetrotters‘ (Bull Bullard, Buckets Blakes and Moose Weekes) February 2013 trip to North Korea to run a children’s basketball camp, generally, the U.S.  public at-large pays little attention to the enigmatic regime despite a history of saber rattling, eye-poking and nuclear missile testing aimed at the United…

Jorge Masvidal has called out Conor McGregor quite often. It is quite clear that he wants a money fight with the UFC's moneyman but recently he also made some good comments on the former double division champion.

Tech: Google says its new disappearing email option won’t be a liability for companies, insisting it isn't 'the Snapchat of email'
Google is going to give administrators the option to disable Gmail's confidential mode for employees, putting the responsibility to preserve any necessary evidence on companies and executives.
Gmail recently revealed a new look that came with a lot of new features, including one that lets you set an expiration date on your emails.
'Confidential mode' is designed to give users more control over who sees their emails, but it could present challenges for preserving evidence in cases involving companies, the way a similar tool did in the Uber vs Waymo case.
Google plans to put the responsibility on companies by letting G Suite admins decide if this should be enabled and giving them the option to reject incoming emails in confidential mode.
In April, Google announced that Gmail would be getting a whole slew of new features, including one that sounds a lot like Snapchat and Wickr — the content-expiring messaging platform that put Uber in a sticky situation in the recent Uber vs Waymo case.
Gmail's new confidential mode lets users set an expiration date on outgoing emails, so that the content of the email eventually disappears. Microsoft Outlook, Exchange, and various third-party extensions offer a similar feature, but Gmail's version is more widely accessible and easier to use. It rolled out to personal account holders using the new Gmail in May, and later this summer it'll be available to business accounts.
Companies that enable it should be wary of the repercussions, however. Just last year, Uber was forced to admit that it had relied on Wickr to communicate internally during the period of time that Google alleged the ridesharing company was stealing technology from its self-driving car division. The messages were never retrieved, and the case ultimately ended in a settlement — widely seen as a win for Uber.
The case raised a question about whether platforms using ephemeral (temporary) messaging should be regulated. Recognizing the blurry ethical lines, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi even told all employees to stop using encrypted messaging platforms when discussing Uber business before the case went to trial. A few months after the case closed, Gmail announced it would be releasing confidential mode.
"There's nothing wrong with [expiring messaging] inherently," said David Horrigan, discovery counsel and legal education director at Relativity, adding that this was basically the way emails were sent back when storage space was a concern. "It's the way that it's used that matters."
Google says its version is slightly nuanced in that the emails are never truly destroyed, making it more difficult to use it malevolently.
"Confidential mode does not equate to the Snapchat of email," a Google representative said to Business Insider in an email. "Received messages in confidential mode do not 'explode,' 'self-destruct,' 'vanish,' or “disappear.'"
After it 'expires,' the confidential-mode email continues to exist in the sender's Sent folder, and becomes a shell of an email with nothing but a subject line in the receiver's inbox. To prevent negligent behavior from employees, the Google representative said that when the feature rolls out to companies, administrators will also have the option to disable the feature internally and reject incoming confidential-mode emails.
This safeguard puts the responsibility on administrators and executives, making it difficult for companies to argue negligence; courts have welcomed arguments for things far less offensive than intent, reasoning that "the other side is still damaged by your spoliation of that evidence," according to Horrigan.
With confidential mode, Google might have figured out the right balance between individual security and company accountability. We'll know for sure once companies are able to start adopting the new feature.
