any thoughts on the new post that staff went scorched earth on which is now making the rounds abt tumblr live? it basically screenshots all the tos and claims if you've ever opened the app (or in some rbs, unsnoozed live) tumblr has gotten your data. on the one hand i feel like this is fearmongering, but on the other its true that MOST sites have your data as is so its pretty standard. you seem pretty knowledgeable abt data gathering so i was wondering abt your take

This is going to be pretty unkind but watching tumblr users interact with staff and live is a great primer on how conspiracy theories happen.

Nobody on this fucking website knows how to read a ToS, nobody on this website knows how anything fucking works (sorry, this is not a dig at you but how would tumblr "get" your data from you clicking or unclicking live; the only data that tumblr has on you is the data that you have put on tumblr what data do people think that clicking the "new" button is scooping up that is anything beyond interactions or posts or IP addresses which are the things that tumblr already has information about like you do not introduce new information into the tumblr ecosystem by clicking a button you haven't installed anything you haven't changed permissions on your browser if everyone is so goddamned scared about live stealing their data i strongly recommend they stop using anything but public internet through an anonymizer and making sure location data is shut off on all of their devices and anyone who is flipping their shit about the type of data that live is collecting but who is using chrome on any device needs to chill the fuck out about live and flip the fuck out about google)

this is like that post about twitter's content policy that circulated the other day or that post about deviantart's content policy that circulated ten fucking years ago nobody knows how to read legal documents and nobody knows how to read technical documentation and this comes together into unholy matrimony on the no reading comprehension at all moral panic website

live never violated the GDPR it was just rolled out in the US first but the entire userbase decided that because it hadn't been rolled out simultaneously in the EU and the US that it was SO UNSPEAKABLY PRIVACY VIOLATEY THAT THE EU HAD BANNED IT FOR ITS CRIMES with, like, nothing whatsoever backing that up because, again, even at its most intrusive Live collects about as much data as Twitter or Yelp, both of which are *capable* of meeting GDPR standards with that level of data collection (even if musk sometimes makes decisions that violate GDPR).

Live is significantly less intrusive than any facebook product, than Amazon, and than any Google product. If you use youtube logged in, don't worry about live, the horse is out of the barn and tumblr is the least of your worries *regardless* of live. If you regularly use Google as a search engine please god learn how to evaluate and compare risks across platforms because Live is like a coughing baby compared to about a dozen things that most highly online people interact with every single day.

If you don't want to use live don't use live. Clicking the button doesn't magically transfer your secret FBI file to tumblr and even agreeing to the ToS doesn't share anything that tumblr doesn't already have if you don't continue to interact - if you don't interact with live after agreeing to the ToS it's not collecting any data except your non-interaction.

For everyone who is losing it over Live just turn off your goddamned location on your fucking cellphone and turn off your location on your goddamned computers and that's it, you're good, you're fine, relax. If your response to "turn off your location" is "but I need it for _____" then don't worry about Live, whatever "_____" is was already collecting and selling your data.

Do you use an activity tracker? Congrats, you have much, much bigger privacy issues to worry about than tumblr live.

Okay but also I yelled about that post and the very many ways in which it was incorrect in January.

And I happened to take an archive of the page at that time because I'm a paranoid motherfucker.

And if you want my guess as to why staff went "scorched earth" on that post it's probably because if you scroll down to the bottom of the page on the archive, OP calls on everyone looking at the post to send a kind fuck you to the CEO then tagged his tumblr.

If you look at the other posts that went scorched earth in relation to tumblr staff they were also posts that very pointedly directed a lot of ire at a single staff member.

I don't think that any individual tumblr staff members are above criticism and I don't think that staff as a whole is above criticism but part of learning to read a ToS is understanding that someone can be shitty and vague and use TERF talking points and skirt the line and be technically okay under the ToS while someone can have a legitimate gripe about another user being horrible and manage to violate the ToS by accidentally spinning up a harassment campaign or suicide baiting someone.

Shitty people like nazis and terfs thrive on being edge cases. They are very good at finding a boundary and standing juuuuuuuuust on this side of it and going "la la la I'm not violating the ToS, you can't stop me!" and that blows and it leads to a lot of people encountering a lot of shitty stuff on a lot of websites but personally I'm pretty glad that there's a lot of gray area because when you cut out gray area that's when you see things like It's Going Down getting banned as extremist content alongside white supremacists. Please continue to report nazis and terfs, and when possible go deep into their pages to report because a pattern of behavior is more likely to get recognized as hate speech than a single post that gets reported a hundred times. Please block as many people who it's harmful for you to interact with as possible because it's clear that staff is not going to do the kind of work protecting users that users would like staff to do.

However I just can't get angry on behalf of a blogger who got nuked for saying "Hey everyone who hates this feature that we all hate please go tell the CEO to fuck himself at this URL specifically" - that is an extremely clear violation of the ToS because it is absolutely targeted harassment.

So now tumblr-the-userbase is going off on its merry conspiracy way skipping through fields and lacking reading comprehension and saying "users are getting banned for reporting the crimes of tumblr live and its gdpr violations" and ignoring the fact that the post was nuked because the last line was saying "hey everyone, let's all individually tell the CEO to fuck off in messages sent directly to him that are certainly not going to include any threats, exaggerations, gore, etc. etc. etc."

If I were to make a post that had 50k notes and the last line was "and while you're at it, please send tumblr-user-ms-demeanor a personalized message telling them why they're a terrible person so they know what we think of them" it would absolutely be reasonable to say that was harassing that user. And that post did it with the CEO. Who is not above criticism (and I have my criticisms! I don't think he really gets tumblr and that's a problem!), but jesus fucking christ don't tag the goddamned CEO or any other staff member in a call to action asking users to send them messages saying "fuck off" this is literally the stupidest thing I've ever seen a tumblr conspiracy theory coalesce around.

Anyway thank you for giving me a place to vent i've been getting more and more pissed about this for three days. Everyone feel free to kindly tell tumblr user ms demeanor to fuck off.

QSMP community positivity because the streamer awards made me so happy

QSMP Digital Artist - Ate and left NO crumbs ever omg. The amount of detail, varying styles, and epic scenes are my favorite. The variety of art styles for QSMP artist is like just going to a buffet to browse and they're all special little dishes made with so much love.

QSMP Tradtional Artist - HOW CAN YOU DRAW/PAINT SOME OF THIS STUFF?? Watercolor paintings of QSMP bulids, notebook spreads with cute little details, the fact that you can draw traditionally at all. All so talented.

QSMP Beginner Artist - NEVER GET DISCOURAGED <33. Everyone was a beginner at some point and seeing people improve over time with their art is so cool. I consider myself still a beginner even though I've been drawing for a couple years now lol. There is still so much for me to learn, and the fact how kind the qsmp art community is makes me so happy. Keep improving, your art looks great <3

QSMP Fanfiction Authors - I don't know whether to compliment you or ask for my therapy payment (/lh). So many authors have ripped my heart out and left it out to dry and others are like a bucket of fluff and joy. I love both of these. The writing quality is genuinely amazing on so many of these. I love to visualize when reading and with all the details it's basically just watching a movie.

QSMP Web Weavers - You guys are AMAZING. Finding so many quotes, transcripts, fanarts, aesthetic photos, and being able to combine them in a way that represents characters so well is beautiful. Not to mention the fact how your able to put credits for everything in an easy to find way??? Perfect.

QSMP Moodboards/Stimboard makers - These are so cute aaaa. I love seeing them, all the little collections of photos or gifs of characters I like is very fun.

QSMP Poll Accounts - I LIVE for taking polls. It's just fun to have a place to put an opinion you had for yourself that you didn't know how to put unprompted on your own post. Seeing results after a while also makes me happy to see what as a general consensus the fandom is on.

QSMBLR and QSMPTWT users - Transferring information from one hellsite to the other, I admire anyone who can survive in the discourse trenches and come back with account updates.

QSMP Clip accounts - I love seeing silly clips of cubitos, and especially those with transcripts and translations. It's a lot of effort and I admire that. Gives me so much info I would've missed otherwise.

QSMP translators - As someone still currently learning the other languages, it is so helpful when people translate it. Sometimes your brain just hurts and you can only read your native language. Also anyone who translates things from English to other languages, yes please make it for other speakers.

QSMP Multi-Shippers - It's so fun to see these, yes give your cubito 7 different romantic/platonic partners. You guys collect ships like Pokémon and it is inspiring

QSMP Cosplayers - I respect cosplayers so much. The wigs, the makeup, the costume, the PROPS?? All take so much work it's amazing to see final products. I reccently tried making a scythe for one I want to do, and I was struggling. Y'all are so cool.

QSMP Character Analysis Posts - Keeping fanfiction accuracy and my personal view on characters as close to canon as possible. These help so much when I need to look for a character I haven't watched much and easy to read.

QSMP Livebloggers - Save me from losing track of lore when I'm busy. I swear some of you just never sleep (please do but thank you for information). The amount of stuff I can figure out from vague post of combined livebloggers makes it much easier to know what's happening. Most of my mutual liveblog a lot and it saves me so much time <3

QSMP Rebloggers - KEEPING THIS FANDOM ALIVE‼️‼️ Tumblrs algorithm is based on reblogs, accounts that are just lurkers rb stuff ily. Hell yeah man, take all the cool stuff and share it.

QSMP Animatics - Movie night exists because of you guys!! Sometimes you all make me want to sob violently or laugh till I can't breathe. The differences in each video is so fun to see. The effort in each one is just beautiful too, animatics are NOT easy.

QSMP Editors - The fact that people can take a cube game and turn into epic/sad/cute edits with a few clips, transitions, and audios astounds me. You guys are so cool and I love seeing them. Also the fanart edits are so sick, finding the best ones to match.

QSMP Fan Video Creators - Stuff like the Federation Welcoming Workers Video, that one cucrucho cereal video, things like that. Quality is usually amazing and all the unique takes or camera work is epic. Idk what else fits in this genre but I just wanted to mention it.

QSMP RP Accounts - Seeing other people's takes on characters are so interesting and fun to see. RP is a skill I need to work on and it's done pretty well with these accounts. The amount of detail y'all can put is insane.

QSMP OC creators - Cringe culture is dead, I love seeing people make their little characters interact with eachother based on the QSMP. Keep it up and pls share it.

QSMP 3D Animators/Modelers - I never expirence more joy than when I see a 3D model of a qsmp rat spinning around. Also any 3D animators your dedication is insane. I tried learning 3D animation once and that was a STRUGGLE.

QSMP Vod savers/YT summaries -Actual lifesavers, there is no way I could've been apart of this community without them. Watching a few videos a day about what happened on the server makes it easier for me to actually do other things. Also that one person who made a QSMP2023 summary in UNDER 10 minutes, you are insane and did such a great job.

QSMP Accounts in Different Languages - QSMPBLR is heavily more English speaking than other languages, and when people main tag with post in different languages it makes me so happy. This was the point of the server, to let people post in whatever language they wanted. It's also fun for me to practice and try to translate it for myself.

Hallo! Tis I, hit user .mogspawner welcoming you to my fanblog!

I mostly plan to repost/post Minecraft content related to S.O.S Smp and smaller, more indie MCYT series I think you should check out, and why !

The plan is to use a platform to show off content creators who I think dont get a lot of attention and who should.

I am an adult! I'm also in a relationship and an unnamed content creator myself. I identify as gender-fluid to protect my identity both irl and online so any pronouns go.

About Me.

I am your average generic, EVOSmp, YHS, Aphmau, Yogscast raised individual. When it comes to Minecraft servers I am extremely niche, I like pretty much all forms of Minecraft and will give any series a shot. However, I am not very likely to ever join large fandoms I wasn't originally in to start with.

I was into Hermitcraft roughly around season 3-4, starting with Xisuma/Mumbo perspective. My love for the content creators there (Including Bdubs) started in my youth and I'm very proud to have been supported and loved in this community for so long.

The life-series kind of falls in place there too but the biggest thing that was the start of my re-hyperfixation was EmpiresSmp and the introduction of Mythicalsausage. I have been a long since viewer of Lizzie & Joel from their old days on Minecraft and I continue to watch them to this day!

There are also SMP's like Deceit which I will go into in other blogs! So keep an eye out for things you will thank me for!

For me, saying I kin so and so is basically affiliating myself with them comfortably. Be it social or just a: "Oh my god that's so me." Other time's its a delulu moment where I genuinely think I am that person due to specific trauma which I wont disclose. I'm not one of those people who will say DNI if doubles because at the end of the day, we are chaos incarnate! Take these as the characters in stories, not the actual people please. this really was the wrong day for me to rb this game because i'm seriously genuinely going to be a major cunt about it and i dgaf. that's your warning.

so. here's what i think. in very general terms.

if you don't want to read below the cut (valid) here's all i'll say: stop, actually. i don't want need or care about the megaviral wlw fanfictions of your dreams, because that's not how i choose to engage with fandoms. i already make and engage with the kind of content i want to see which (surprise!) includes a lot of wlw content, but i don't see the need to force moral superiority down people's throats over it. i don't give two shits if anyone other than me is making wlw content. this is fanfiction. fanart. etc. people are allowed to write or engage with whatever they want, HOWEVER if you're throwing a fit over not having enough wlw content and can't name a woman off the top of ur head, that seems like a you problem, idk. basically i choose to actively NOT engage with the type of people screaming crying and pissing themselves over content that already exists that they can't be bothered to look for because appearances and #feminism are all that matters.

if you're here, i'm going to get more cunty, not sorry, you were warned.

the demand for wlw rep is absolutely just dog whistling to seem holier than thou, and like, whatever, most of this shit originates on twitter and tiktok and i've never listened to a word a twitter or tiktok user has said and i won't start now so on the whole i can just put my metaphorical headphones on and tune it out and keep doing my thing, yk? but when it permeates my little den of horror and my brain starts scratching itself, well, i find that sometimes i need to be an asshole and sometimes is right now.

it's not actually a fandom sexism/misogyny issue it's an issue of wanting validation to enjoy certain things, because those things are only cool if the hivemind says so, right? i'm no political expert but i know enough to know that cultlike thought patterns don't lead anywhere good. i've seen zombie movies. i live in america. LOL.

i always joke about how i'd rather die than have my favorite ships become popular (i.e. pandalily, bartydora, lilycissa, etc) but the reason i say that is because a. it breeds discourse that i don't care about, and b. i don't want a bunch of people engaging with content they're not actually interested in just to seem woke or stay on top of trends. it just makes things worse for the people who actually enjoy it.

and while i have your attention, and while i'm being a bitch, wanna know one of the big reasons i think people are crying and whining about the 'lack of wlw rep'? they want other people to care so they don't have to. of course, they don't realize other people already dooooo care, because they're too terrified to sort by anything other than hits on ao3, but that's neither here nor there. no, what they want is for some big strong heavenly god to bite the bullet and characterize these women that, let's be frank, are names on a page and nothing more, so they don't have to. so they can keep on keeping on with the characters they DO care about and toss something around every once and a while about (insert megaviral wlw fic that doesn't exist) to avoid claims of sexism & lesbophobia. AND AS A DISCLAIMER! i don't think people should feel the need to care about a bunch of random characters if they don't want to. once again, this is fanfiction. do whatever the fuck you want. i promise it makes things so much more fun and chill. just because i wanna characterize the shit out of pandora fucking lovegood, i'd never demand anyone else does, and that's the crux of it, isn't it?

this is why it also bugs me when i see posts like 'omg i don't even care who the ship is, i just love sapphics!' or smth along those lines because like, yeah, i love women and i love when women fuck each other and love each other, but i'm not just gonna care about a ship because it's two women. if i did, i'd be more than happy with the pg spoonfed #girlcore sapphic representation in mass media, because half the time it's just two white girls named rachel and brookleighanna whose only defining character traits are that they're gay. nothing more. and sorry, but i'd rather have no wlw content than that. i can't enjoy a ship if i haven't rotated them to hell and back like a rotisserie chicken in my silly little head, often before i've even consumed any content about them. that's the fun of it! i sent like 12 voice messages about a ship i don't even care about that much one time just because i took a shower and had a lot of thoughts. does that mean i'm going to attempt to make them a cornerstone of the Fandom As A Whole and be treated like a celebrity over it? fuck no. i'm just here because i like to have fun and talk to people about characters we all enjoy and create so much lore in my head that only 2 people will ever know about simply because i'm passionate about it and that passion is really enjoyable to me. fandom is a community to me, not a hierarchy, like tiktok or twitter would have you believe, and i think that's what this whole conversation about wlw rep is missing right from the jump. (ta da! i circled back to the point at hand in the end. my tangent had a point!)

i don’t wanna rb this post but i wanna say that everything this person said is valid and mostly true. the frustration and anger is justified and it sucks to have a website you love crumble and fall apart.

but i feel like talking about something that has been echoed by former staff members here - that this attitude is going to make it so you are never going to survive on another social media site.

we need a reality check here that like… websites and companies do not have morals. capitalism completely and absolutely controls all decisions made by a website, company, etc. to operate. since automatic is a tech company and tumblr is only a part of their product line, they have a very, very, very capitalist structure of what success and profit mean. we may all hold the belief that a website doesn’t need to be profitable, that a website just needs to be stable and reliable - but that is just a little bit too idealistic.

burn me at the stake, but tumblr live was not a bad idea. it could have been really fun and cool, but the problem was that we all quickly found out that tumblr live would require your data that tumblr has never required before. and so, it failed, because the userbase of this site tends to be more data cautious than facebook users. and i can promise you that a lot the staff working on this site probably knew that, but i’d like to see any of you on here pitch a major change or to insist a complement that you were just paid to work on for months is a complete failure to a CEO. see what happens to your income and livelihood.

transphobic moderation? yeah, that is a problem, and it sucks. but it has been acknowledged, and while some odd things have happened, a lot of the time it’s just shitty error and algorithms. which also happens on other websites daily. and yeah i’ve seen some staff members say some condescending and rude shit too, but damn, they are not some holy public figures, they are just some guy doing a job and y’all were harassing them and still harass them.

if any company or any website actually took into consideration user feedback, the internet would look like a different place. it might look something like it did 15 years ago. twitter may have not sold to elon musk. youtube wouldn’t do what it’s doing with ad blockers and content. reddit wouldn’t have fought back when users protested a couple months back. i could keep going! tumblr is not an exception to this and as someone who has been on this site for over a decade, i am not owed UI changes that i prefer. it’s a tech product and all tech products are inherently linked to and change only according to what might be appealing to capitalism.

and like… you can bitch and laugh about 600 people just trying to work and do their jobs to keep something like tumblr running far past it’s lifespan, but you need to understand that the vast majority of them weren’t “decision makers”. they were tasked with changes and plans created by someone who probably only knew of tumblr’s functionality rather than the culture of it (remember that Tumblr Is Gonna Be The Next PDF thing lol) and we’re expected to perform those tasks. you cannot just go “but i don’t like that/the users won’t like that so i won’t” when you’re told to do a task at a job, man. again especially not at a tech company. it won’t go over well for you and if you think the world works like that then well idk.

i knew all the way back in 2018 that tumblr wasn’t going to be around forever - a site doesn’t just lose over 50% of the userbase and bounces back to a state that even slightly resembles that peak of use. but they tried, and some things have been corny and some things have been just downright dumb, but you have to admit this site has been pretty creatively interactive even when it’s been “cringe” or ad based. there’s a reason you’re still here. there’s a reason you’re having these bittersweet and upset reactions to a staff you claimed to despise being reassigned, even though so many people have wanted them to “go away”. did you actually want them to go away, or did you just want them to appease to exactly what you wanted? you gotta be careful what you wish for man.

Now the topic of reblogs. YES there are some creators who don't care about this and love to shout "no one owes you anything" and everyone is entitled to their options and feelings. That being said, there are many creators who DO CARE about this, me included.

There are many creators who are negatively affected by shitty and no interaction. We love what we do, so will we still do it without you? yes. But we chose to share here because we like sharing, we also like the interaction, we like the community. We do write for ourselves, and because we love it ( so please stop saying that as a generic response when a creator is venting, even if you mean well, it's still not helpful).

We are sharing works FOR FREE with the public and there is nothing wrong with wanting some interaction and reblogs, it's nice, it's a sign of appreciation, for some it boosts our morale as we offer up our babies for public viewing. I know for me, I have been very impacted by the way people use this site now, it sucks, it depresses me. Will it make me stop writing? Never. Will it make me consider keeping my work private at some point and just write in my own little corner of the world where my work is no longer free to view, yeah maybe. This place used to be so inspiring, and that is gone. Sure, some will disagree and that's okay. My blog, my option, my post.

So, when creators are like " hey it would be nice if you reblogged or interacted" it is not us begging, it is not us being babies, it's not us being ungrateful, it is not us disregarding shy or anon readers, its not us saying “wah you owe me!” - its us asking for something that is a great gesture of appreciation for the content you consume, FOR FREE. We are not asking for payout or to praise us, just show some signs of life people. That like button is in the same place at the reblog one, use it. Don't want to mess up your page aesthetic? Well you could make a reblog account. Those are great. I have two of them to support writers.

Am i saying you should reblog everything, no. So don't even bring that up. Reblog what you like. Help it get seen. Likes do NOTHING on tumblr aside from say "hey cool" or “liked this” and there is nothing wrong with that, just if you want to step up your game, reblog it, comment, interact. Have you ever seen a fic on your dash, one someone else shared and loved it? Well, do you know how you saw it? because someone reblogged it. A like did not do that. reblogs = exposure and fic circulation. The fic/gif set/art lives on in a bigger orbit!

Addition: reblog accounts are a thing! Many people do them. It’s an easy way you can keep your page however you want, but still reblog (means share, circulate) the original authors work. You do this by making a Sideblog and can dedicate that to reblogs only. I do that too! I have more than one RB account that is only dedicated to sharing other ppls work.

Now, the next topic...Updates

In the last month I have received lots of messages like "when is so and so being updated" "are you finishing ____" but on these same works, as I'm busting my ass, no one comments, no one reblogs and there's like 4 likes. Many of these messages don't even start with a greeting either.

Sooooo if readers are so ardent to see something, if you are actually reading it, if you want to support the author, how about showing some signs of life? Even if you just go anon and throw a bunch of emojis in their mailbox, that's good too! You can stay anon and be like " hey i really am enjoying that fic" - trust me, you will make the author smile.

One of the issues with this liking only thing is we can't tell if our work is actually being read or valued. And it sucks. Honestly, I don't look at my notifications for likes anymore, I don't. It's discouraging and it feels like no one is reading anything, just blankly liking it as if this was instagram or twitter. Could I be wrong? Sure. Of course. I mean I like stuff to find it later in the day so we have systems right? But this is just me venting on my own page so I'm holding the mic...

All of this is to say, don't demand updates from creators. If you like something, great. If you are excited, great. We love it! I love a well intentioned message from someone excited for an update. Tone matters, don't be a dick, don't be entitled, don't be rude. A creator is sharing their work with you FOR FREE, shit if they want to take 5 months to update, let them take 5 months. if they want to drop it for now and write in a totally new fandom for a bit, let them live.

So, do we love your excitement for updates? YES. But don't be a dick about it, don't demand it. And when said work is posted, how about you hit that reblog button or leave a comment or send some keyboard smashing excitement to their mailbox as a "yay its here, thank you creator"

Now, minors and sketchy looking blank accounts…

We are tired. I AM TIRED. I have never in my life had to do so much followers-list maintenance and I took a break because that shit is exhausting. Please, if you are a minor, do not follow adult blogs, stop ignoring our warnings. if you are a blank blog, take some time to not have a sketchy looking blog. More on this topic in this post.

Next…Complaining how there is no new content

YES there is! Some of you only read works by big blogs and only read their work on certain characters. So no, you can't complain there is nothing new for you to read. Many people do not give other writers a chance and only go to 1-3 blogs as the “be all end all” for a fandom or said characters. There is nothing wrong with favorites. That’s not what I’m taking about here. Branch out, there are so many writers, so many creatives, so many stories. The big and popular blogs are not the only ones who have stories to tell and share. Give other people a damn chance.

Okay, that's all I have to say. If anyone is sick of hearing about any of this, I don’t care. You can filter it out or unfollow. All this needs to be said, so I said it. Not just for me, but for all the creators who are frustrated. And trust me, many, if not most are. Some have left already for the above reasons, plus other reasons. This place could end up without content, slowly, eventually if creators continue to leave. So many have already.

Another topic is inner fandom drama but I’m not gonna touch that. Just be kind to each other, don’t be an asshole. Try to keep these spaces enjoyable. For many of us, this is out little escape.

What's wrong with spam liking/only liking stuff? I get rbs are more helpful, but I just found your blog and reading that is kind of discouraging as a newcomer. Not trying to be disrespectful, just curious

I don’t think you came off as disrespectful, just ill-informed which is surprising considering the amount of users I know that have posted about this and why you should reblog work instead of spam liking, but I’ll try my best to summarize.

reblogs show that you actually want to support the writer who put hours / days / weeks / months into their work. you’re sharing it to help circulate the piece and help us reach broader audiences. this has been answered a LOT by a lot of different artists and writers on this site so I wholly suggest looking into the topic of why spam liking is detrimental because they’ve all probably better explained it than I will. But I’ll say this

This website isn’t Instagram, so you shouldn’t treat it like that. And honestly? spam likers / users that only like fics but never reblog tend to kill a writer’s drive to write, because they’re not getting any traction. they’re not getting any feedback or growing. it’s not supporting us for you to hit a button shaped like a heart and then our post gets tucked away in your likes where only YOU can see it.

it truly is not hard to just press the button right beside the heart while you’re down there, anyways, and share something if you enjoy it, and it does miles more to motivate and support us.

I’m not going to apologize for you feeling discouraged, however unfortunate it may be, but I will encourage you to think about how much effort writers and artists put into their work on this site, where the MAIN function is sharing, and consider supporting your faves better if you haven’t been already.

okay so the thing ive been following almond (good coffe and hot) for a while and i seen sundae mentioned every once a while. Who is sundae what is its purpose, like not trying to be rude but i dont know shit about her

literally copy/pasted all of this from a discord conversation so some of it might not make complete sense but . Sorry . also extra sorry to @/official-tbd for putting up with my shit in real time

this is really long and also. spoilers for suicidal ideation, suicide attempt, murder, mauling, generally super fucked up mental states and like . Sundae is really fucked up her lore is not for the faint of heart

starting with explaining my fanons magic mechanics because . Theyre important i promise . if you recongize the series i stole like half of this from no you dont.

SO BASICALLY there r a shitton of kinds of magic and practices and whatnot, primarily into 3 categories [shamanic [like . What affogato does], witchy [relying on potions/alchemy/physical ingredients and curses to produce magical results], and what's primarily practiced in parfaedia ; 'true' magic [typically relying on a mage gift in the user, which ill explain more thoroughly]. They're not,,, mutually exclusive and overlap a lot and there's others and its very messy but thats kidna the point and this is the best brief explanation i can give. Okay. Sounds of insanity and barking in my enclosure

So basically a mage gift is like. Generally you're born with it, can be inhereted or random and its fairly common, especially in parfaedia where there's such a high concentration of mages / magic in general. though it takes a while to properly show up , usually in preteen/teenage years but some r different. And they stay dormant up until then. it's basically a part of you in the way an organ/muscle/bloodstream kinda all three is and for all intensive purposes a stable magic system is just as important to your living as anything else. magic will show up when it will and basically never pops up early, usually only under severe duress where typically that explosion of magic Will Never End Well, and it's exponentially worse depending on how powerful the mage was originally and will generally leave their magic system permanantly kinda fucked up depending in which way it blew up. I thinkkkk thats everything important ??

so sundae is just a really pathetic wet paper bag of a kid . Kinda hopelessly in the worst parts of the city, an orphan, and not doing so hot because . Pathetic ass can't steal for shit which is kinda the only option and when it gets cold in parfaedia It Gets Cold.

So she's left to basically die due to a shitstorm of untreated diseases/starvation/hypothermia . Rip queen . Thats actually it actually she dies in some alley end of story sorry for the dissapointment /j

But no seriously actually she's laying there kinda accepting Damn im really gonna die until some asshole smacks her, shoves a canteen in her face and asks her if she's okay. SPOILER ALERT thats crumble he's also an orphan who is doing Slightly Better|

so he's like HEY CUNT want to . Not die and usndaes like oughshhshdh and he's like "i'll take that as a yes :]" and drags her off to a shitty attic of an abandoned building somewhere he proudly proclaims is his home base and nurses her back to health . Love wins. queue 20 years of friendship and codependency that totally wont end in tragety

i should mention they aren't ever romantically involved in any way. sundae's pan and crumble's bi but they arent into eachother they're just SO bestie. maybe QPLPs

but yeah they're very close and so so bestie . And also stupid kids <3 crumble is a huge thief and just steals so much shit even if it isnt important . He's a moderate kleptomaniac tbh but things r,,, Okay??? but it ends up so that sundae feels useless and like a leech on crumble's life since she can't rlly keep up,,, and she so desprately wants to escape but is completely powerless. And is like,,,, mostly convinced she's born on the streets to die on the streets and develops a pretty fucked up sense of self worth and general morality. Oops. This totally wont come back with a vengance

So uh. Turns out sundae has a very powerful mage gift brewing that she has no idea about . untillll tragety strikes, crumble gets caught stealing, and given how the authorities rlly dont give a shit about this place the merchant decides to kill the problem . So sundae freaks the FUCK out understandably so because that's her bestie and also her lifeline and uh . In the heat of her panic as crumby is about to get his throat slit or something The Entire Fucking Alley Bursts Into Flames [Including The People There]

[except crumby] [he does get his arms scorched pretty badly from trying to shove the assailant off and said assailant bursting into flames but him and sundae are relatively unscathed. Except sundae's mage gift literally exploded and she's in really bad agony from that even if there's nothing physically wrong with her oopsieee]

Sundae's kinda having a crisis and crumble is like WOW thats so cool :] but sundae kinda realizes eventually. Holy shit she has magic and begs crumble to steal some magic books for her. she finally has hope that she could have a way she and crumble can get out of here, bordering on obsession

But you see her magic is all fucked up and wacky . She eventually bullies it into behaving normally for proper spells but uh. Getting to that point is desperate and requires a bit of help from the crescent moon. She's barely aware of how DANGEROUS this is and is like :] and self teaches herself magic. She's actually surprisngly good at it but gets more and more investedi n darker magics

it gives her an edge,,, and when she has to fight for her place and to climb,,,, Well,,,, it feels like it doesnt have a choice. Not realizing how insanely powerful its gift actually is . It's part of the tragety of her story; this really never had to happen. When the downfall was completely avoidable but the character doesn't know this >>>>>

there arent,,, really any drawblacks. she notices her hands r blackened with claws after a while . not a big deal, she thinks, but it's the first sign of magical corruption. Which. weaponizes your mind to feed on misery and despair you cause after a while! though sundae is none the wiser and it takes a long time for it to really set root in her magic and start with the mindfuckery

she gets very good at magic ; her ways r kinda backwards from being mostly self taught and shes missing some stuff but her intellegence makes up for it. she's really good at spellcasting [think complicated shields, locks, etc etc rather than the showier artistic /offensive magics] though is fairly well rounded. She slowly climbs up the economic ladder and takes crumble with eachother, obviously, they need eachother

crumble is so good and kind and sundae needs that grounding desprately. she always thinks about him when thinking about her future, how one day they'll be comfy and rich and happy, both of them together. he's her bestie!!

he relies on her for direction in life,,, a lot. he's really a guy about living in the moment but he would have never escaped the slums alone . and also he's desperate for companionship and relies on her as a shoulder to lean on

I <3 CODEPENDENCIES

mainly she doesnt have to worry about offensive magicsince generally throwing her insane fucked up raw fire magic at something solves the problem [it does its best to ignore the streaks of black in the flames]

she uses a necklace crumble gave to her and enchants it to mask the magical effects of her growing corruption, thinking it'll ruin her social chances over it being an actual danger to herself because she doesnt know any better. I forgot to mention every mage has a sort of 'magical signature' and you can read it / know who it is if you know the mage unless its specifically masked. So sundae figures out how to mask it's own, giving the impression of just batshit fire magic rather than something even more fucked up

She just . ignores it. it cant cause any problems right? and tbh the magic acadamy when she finally gets to peer into the famed institute just enforces that . There are practicing dark mages and it isnt a big deal. she's a good person. she wouldn't let something bad happen. it doesnt matter.

she also has a motivation of so badly wanting to get to a good spot so she could help people like her. make actual changes rather than languish in misery over her upbringing. she wants to do good so bad. she cant be some evil dark mage. she's better than that. she knows that.

[she doesnt realize the caviat to dark magic is having to actively prevent it's spread until its far too late]

and it eventually, finally, makes its way into the institute. as a teacher!! she proves herself despite her questionable background and is allowed to finally have a stable job + help people!! budding students and lots of charity work on the side, it's great. For now. it's finally happy, crumble is loving working with kids even if he isn't technically employed,,, + the entire school third wheels for it and latte when its obvious theyre fruity HFDSLJKFDSK. and they're happy and gay and happy and sundae makes friends among the institute and . Ya !!

It's all great. Until it isn't!

sundae has a lot of intrustive thought set in, mostly revolving around violence, particularly towards people she cares about. it starts sparsely at first, then just gets worse and worse over time . its terrified of speaking out and making the people around it think less of it after its fought so hard to get recongition. she keeps her mouth shut and prays it doesnt get worse. it wont get worse

it gets worse and worse until she's convinced she's going to hurt someone. it wont go away. it's completely terrified and locks itself in its lab, convinced she'll get better, convinced she'll figure out a spell or cure or something. it's so used to having magic save everything in her life she doesnt even realize it's the problem. her thoughts are constantly plagued by violent fantasties and even self harm, digging her claws into her skin until it bleeds. Trying to claw whatever's wrong with her out. it's eventually in a haze of angry pacing and nobody knows what's going on as days and weeks go buy of thrashing and breaking glass fill the room. they're all worried about her but scared of going in since sundae is scarily powerful and who knows what she'll do in this state. Everyone's stuck.

and crumble is the most freaked out. this is his best friend and lifelong partner, and he's wracked with terror she might hurt herself in there. he knows something is wrong, obviously, and they've known eachother for so long. he'll be safe. he'll talk to it. he'll help it. he's as confident as he can be as he lockpicks the door and cracks it open

she practically begs him, crying, backing up into a wall to leave, to please, please just get away and hide and never come out. it's so scared but it feels powerless. It doesnt know what it can do anymore. even to him. she's been used to her magic being unable to touch him, it knowing intrisicly that he is not to be harmed.

but she loses her grip on her mind in short order, and well. Her magic isn't the thing that kills him

It's her own claws. it mauls him. and there's nothing it can do to stop it

when she's back to herself, the worst part is now she's fully lucid. she knows what she's done and panics, tearing her lab apart and doing all sorts of irresponsible and borderline suicidal spells to fix it, in an absolutely grief maddened and paniced state as eyes turn inwards and crumble's 'gone missing'. It's only a matter of time until the truth comes out. and it's painfully aware of that. all of the spells it tries results in failure and she has to deal with the fact that her grounding is dead and it's all her fault. They're closing in. her paranoia is getting worse and worse all over again. the extensive spells only make her corruption worse, giving her her tail and trailing up along her face until its impossible to hide. it's fucked, and eventually is lead to no further choice. it flees and , while looking latte in the eyes and holding crumble's body, spins up a portal to seemingly nowhere and whispers an apology before vanishing into the flaming rim. all of the magic use and lack of sleep and everything should have killed her, but it didnt, but with its entire life basically gone it fucking wishes it did. god forbid a she/it have anything

turns out the place she portaled to [note, a super draining spell you do not take lightly] seemed to be nowhere to those observing, but was the place her and crumble met. in a daze, hoping that if she uses enough magic and pushes herself and is stupid enough with it it'll do her in. she halfheartedly pulls up a curtain of illusion and begins ripping up the concrete and building a grave, a silent beauty in the middle of nowhere. she's fully expecting that when the magical blowback takes hold it will kill her, but she needs to lay him to rest first. she buries him under a clandescent silver and autumn tree grown with nothing but magic, closes in the illusions and hiding of this sacred place, and lays down to die

But it doesn't.

like obviously Suicide Isnt Good Kids but like . God does she want to. she's already lost her life but she isnt dead

idk it just gets me so badly about how what kills crumble is his love. he wants her to be okay and he wants to help her so badly, and his love blinds him from the truth of how dangerous she is. and it's the reason he's buried under that tree. their dynamic and codependency actually makes me level 5 critical insane

but yeah. she comes back around very much not dead, in agony and barely able to move but alive and slowly recovering, and she really,,, realizes what she did, realizes the weight of the corruption now spread all along her body. the lagging tail trailing behind her and weighing her down, literally and metaphorically. and it Does Not Cope Well

but it comes out with the conclusion that she really is bad. she was a bad person all along. a stupid, stupid, bad person. and shes desperate for control back of her life, desperate to see something again.

so in her fucked up state, she hangs the necklace on the tree branches, steps outside the curtain, and embraces it. embraces that she's fucked up and sick in the head. and desprate for control she turns to Crime !

she's exactly back where she started, the slums, but oh, now she has power. and she's going to make it everyone elses problem. it's completely fucking miserable the entire time though obvioudly.

it gets deep into parfaedia's criminal underground,,,and while i wouldnt call it a mob boss it's associated with a lot of bad people and her magical corruption is thriving off it. it loves the misery and control and pain she's inflicting at its whim. a lot of murder and violence and magic and stuff, all under the radar of her being thought dead [who wouldnt after all that insane magic usage and a likely suicide] and her impeccable ability to hide her tracks

she feels awful constantly but tries to sweep herself up into the glamour and power of it all,,, and its like,,, Half working

and life continues as normal back at the institute,,, mostly. they scrub her and crumble clean of all records, and latte especially quietly greives, never really taking on another lover just because what she had with sundae never received closure and she cant really get over it. the only thing that remains of sundae is old newspapers, pictures in latte's desk, and empty frames in the staff hall

years later, when light the beacons happens sundae's curiosity is peaked, but once it blows over and is handled she just ignores it. it isnt relevant to what she's doing here.

BUT THEN it happens again , on a much larger scale [war on shattered skies] [the one tea knight and eclair were introduced in] [except tea knight doesnt exist and never did im devsis] and sundae tries to blow it over but she watches from the shadows as the city she loves is torn apart and the dragon has only come back stronger, and the mages are losing. badly.

sundae, despite everything, still holds onto her deepset want to do good. in the end all she wants to do is be good, even if she's given up on chasing it.

but in that moment she hesitates, sighs, and then gives up her spot in the shadows as flames spool out from her palms. blackened chains drag the dragon into the fire, and it's a messy attack spell, one that's a massive drain, but it's effective, and really sundae doesnt care what she does to herself anymore

and with terror, latte and eventually others recongize the magic signature of someone they thought had been dead for years

but sundae suceeds and, because of her excessive magic use and careless nature of going about it, she drops unconcious, leading everyone with a massive mess to clean up

they worry more about picking her up and letting her recover and cleaning up the mess the rifts left [the dragon was the most apparant issue, but there r tons of other beasts running around] and THEN latte fights with almond about it being let off the hook because "well officer we used to bang" and also like she IS the reason parfaedia isnt a pile of smoldering rubble rn. And she convinces him eventually because uhhhh i said so . FUck you girlboss powers .

and sundae expects to wake up to an interrogation,,, but,,, doesnt??? latte asks if she's okay, where the hell was she, and what happened,,,,, and Wow does it hit sundae all of this could have been prevented if she just asked for help. They loved her. they could have helped her. they would have helped her. but it insisted on fighting alone

and she just . Augh it all hits her and she breaks down and latte comforts her and despite being at her lowest things are looking up

Over time and with a lot of help she slowly heals and gets a grip on her mind, her corruption doesnt go away but retreats back to a more managable state and while she'll never be the same, she's stable, and happier. she doesnt return to work, but helps wawa learn magic in private, and eventually branches back to hanging out and reconnecting with old friends, as well as mending her relationship with latte. love wins !

she also obtains baby later [mocha milkshake] and mocha has her own moderately angsty shit going on [not nearly as bad] but TBH i dont want to get into it any also . God this is so fucking long do you REALLY want to read more.

okay, i had my laughs last night but i feel like this needs to be said because im still a bit irate and this is serious. rant about plagiarism under the cut.

if you are going to accuse someone of plagiarism, you need to be 100% sure they actually did it. you need to have your proof ready before you even say a word. as someone who has had 4 different blogs + 29483929 urls, i have reposted some of my own works at least twice.

receiving a comment asking people to report my work as stolen nearly sent me into an anxiety attack my mind was thinking, “i wrote this fic a year ago and bc im just now reposting it, im going to be the one who gets the hit for plagiarism… not on my watch. i’ll call them out before they do it to me.” so i scoured ao3 for any trace of this fic and found nothing besides a toji fic with the same title but different premise, because the comment was made that it was originally on ao3. so i figured “what are the odds this ao3 poster has a tumblr” and went to the accusers blog. low and behold– and only after two minutes of scrolling– i find they had reblogged it when i had posted it on this account for literally an hour. i don’t even rmr why i posted and priv’d it that quickly but i did.

i originally posted this fic on. april 24th 2022 on my blog first nsfw blog, touyaphoria. reposted here when i was tumblr user bladiez, for a split second on august 1st 2023 (which i forgot until i saw their rb). i reposted and left for good on the 8th of this month on my now writing blog tomuras. it was stated in the final repost that it was a repost (i have since changed the note to specify which blogs it was posted on beforehand). and it would’ve taken them less time to realize both fics were posted by the same person had they scrolled their own blog instead of me figuring it out myself. it could have been totally avoided.

now, i do appreciate someone looking out for my work like that, i really do. but on the other hand it felt so shitty to be somewhat publicly accused of something that i didn’t even do. and it felt even shittier that i received no apology for it. i didn’t even send them the pictures i posted here as proof, i sent them proof straight from google docs + my initial idea being discussed with a friend of mine and that seemed to be enough because they never responded and they never made a callout post like they said they would. the usual tumblr drama and discourse i can let roll off my shoulders. but an allegation like that is heavy and not just on tumblr. if an actual published author was accused of plagiarism the backlash would be outrageous and have extreme consequences.

tdlr: please heed the notes on posts, not just warnings. do your research before falsely accusing someone. or, if you can be bold enough to accuse someone, at least have the decency to apologize for it if you are wrong.

IGNORED ME??#considering i sent the dm literally four minutes after they posted their comment #i think its safe to assume i was ignored #and i stayed up for two hours waiting for at least some form of acknowledgement not even a sorry #i didnt want to govto sleep until it was resolved
