ohohohoho !!! watched a playthrough. game good :) more thoughts below (spoilers obv)

AUGH. AUUGHAUGHHGAGHHH. eugh. oof. i am biting you i am biting steam i am biting sega fuck that noise of wanting to be serene and calm abt not getting to play it blindly I WANT TO HAVE PLAYED THIS BLINDLY SO BAD. i wish it did not have to have happened this way. regardless, i am going to talk about frontiers and my opinions :)

i really liked the story! loved the characters, although eggman becoming a dad was a biit too fast for my tastes. sage is fun, i like her as well and hope she shows up in later material (idw please add her in PLEASE i am begging give eggman 5 kids and only two that he actually cares for that is SO FUCKING FUNNY ahfhsdfoia)

ian flynn wrote the story, and it is quite clear that he did! in love with how he consistently gets brought on by sega to fix the messes they caused in their storytelling due to not paying enough attention (or too much) on what was going on in the writing room. love how this game confronts at least a bit what happened in forces, and how it has affected the main characters, and if they are this intent on not scrubbing forces out of the timeline, i hope they manage to adjust the characters properly down the line so that its clear that sega are willing to admit fault and try to make things better.

my little guys, my little creachers. the voice direction was so good eugh. sonic. he. i. he is in my head now. my little guy :>. i loved his character in this game, and i also loved the interactions he had with his friends!!!! MAN. i casually ship sonknux now. you telling me sonamy is meant to be reciprocated when sonic looks at knuckles LIKE THAT? sonamy is kinda cute in this too, but i still do not see it? i tried, sorry lmao. was definitely not expecting tails addressing explicitly how he sees himself and his self-worth. little man you are EIGHT chill THE FUCK OUT!!!! him and sonic had so many good moments i am going to die from how well-fed i am istg

also, tangle and sticks being canon to the main timeline now? i vibe w/ it! i wanna see how they pull off integrating them properly, but either way im excited!

also seems like the next few games might be a bit empty from the main characters besides sonic, in a good way? amy, knuckles, and tails are all gonna sightsee or whatever, so maybe that might be the time where other characters can shine, like the rest of the gigantic sonic cast that already exists (3000 sonic characters my beloveds....) i wonder if sega will try to change any character designs because of this, i think it would be neat! maybe since they removed the ages, they might even age some characters up from being perpetually 6-8, although maybe not! (brand recognition and all that)

soundtrack is stellar, although i will probably appreciate it more when i can hear it on spotify or something.

all-in-all, i get the 7.5-8/10 reviews. the game really is that, no lower or higher, which is very good in my opinion! ending was a bit weak compared to the beginning, but i feel as if that is a small price to pay for paving the way to sonic games in the future that get to be handled with the love and care they deserve. maybe sega will realize that they should be adventurous again, and be willing to take risks. wish i could play this game 😔.

Hi there, it's Carly again. I'm really sorry to do this, but I have to say it.

I really enjoyed Butterfly Effect when it started. While the story started off strong, the random romances and couples that were introduced later on ended up ruining the experience for me.

At the beginning, I was drawn in by the well-developed characters and the intriguing plot. The setting was also beautifully described, and I felt like I was transported into a completely different world. It was engaging and made it easy for me to get lost in the story.

However, as the story progressed, the introduction of random romantic relationships between characters felt forced and took away from the main plot. It seemed like you were trying to add unnecessary drama and conflict, which made the story feel disjointed and lost its focus. I couldn't help but feel like you were just trying to satisfy your own shipping of characters rather than focusing on what would serve the story best. It seemed like some of the romantic pairings were forced into the narrative without much thought, simply because you wanted them to be together.

The couples themselves also felt underdeveloped and lacked chemistry, making it difficult for me to care about their relationships. Instead of adding depth to the story, these romances distracted from the main plot and left me feeling unsatisfied with the overall experience.

As a reader, I wanted to be invested in the story and characters, not your personal preferences. Unfortunately, the random romances left me feeling like you were more concerned with your own satisfaction than the satisfaction of the readers.

Another issue that I had is the story is going on for too long. While the story started off strong, it's now dragging on, and I found myself losing interest.

The pacing of the story felt off, with too much time spent on minor details and not enough time devoted to the main plot. As a result, the story lost its momentum, and I found myself struggling to stay invested in the narrative. This also meant that some of the character arcs felt repetitive and predictable. There were times when I found myself wishing that the story would move on to something new, rather than revisiting the same conflicts and themes.

I still appreciate your creativity and the effort put into building the world and characters. I only wish that the random romances were not included and you just wrap it up already. Longer isn't better. All of this has ultimately took away from what could have been a great story.

Hey again Carly! Hooo boy a lot to address here but I'm trying not to think it over for way longer than necessary, so here goes: I feel like a lot of your criticisms are legitimate, some are more of a matter of opinion - and that's okay! Like, if you don't wanna read this fic anymore because it went in a direction you weren't a fan of - that's cool, and I'm glad you felt comfortable to voice your critiques. I'm at a point with this fic where I'm realising that yes, pacing has been an issue. Should have looked for ways to condense things down, but I wanted to flesh too many things out and include certain ideas and yada-yada - you get to 40 chapters and the true plot is only really kicking off now. Definitely a product of it being my first long fic and over the months I've been working on it - Ive learnt a lot and there are a lot of things that I would change that I can't exactly now because I'm at the point of no return now pfft. The romance being forced in favour over the plot is not a point I quite I agree with? I mean Sonknux has been there throughout the whole thing, Tangle's got a little crush on Whisper but it's not shown to be anything deep - and Shadow and Rouge's relationship is in a vague area. Those are the only three ships that I put in the Ao3 tags, no romances came out of nowhere I don't think because they're not really written as proper relationships yet. I wouldn't say they've been to much of a course of conflict either, more of an undercurrent. I feel like in the recent chapters where we had downtime on Angel Island after the previous arc - these relationships came to the forefront for a bit while I tried to give them development.

But hey - opinions are opinions! And you're entitled to yours! But I agree with you frankly that the pacing has been bad, and I'm sorry for that - sorry to my readers for that. I'm at a point where I'm not sure how I want to continue the fic (i know the general plot points but again, it's super long - how do I condense?) - whether I even try, or maybe tackle it some other time with a rewrite - I don't know. But it's definitely a symptom of my amateur ass taking on too big of a project that I should have probably held off on. Probably why working on other fics has sounded more appealing for me lately (which have considerably better pacing and much shorter length) But thank you for the support on this fic while you were here <3 hopefullly some of my other writing will be able to interest you some day :)

so with sonic and knuckles basicaly being brothers in the movie, how you feeling?

I think everyone really wants an answer out of me as the person who ruthlessly crowded the movie sonknux tag for months, so here you go! I said I’d comply with whatever happened, and now I am, and I’m having fun with that ADORABLE ending 🥺 idc!!! and idc in the sense that i’m happy either way!!!

The thing that has been ticking me off though is how I’ve yet to actually see a definitive confirmation of their relationship at the end, less so at official sources (as far as I’m aware) and more so at the people who decide to take rude jabs at eachother’s opinions as they inform me. I’m not going to trust someone saying “this is why they’re not siblings at all” when they’re actively judging people who got that from the ending and are creating good comforting content in their own space. I don’t endorse anyone doing that honestly, I thought it was common sense to respect eachother and lay off if you see something you don’t like.

On a more personal reflective note: It’s a strange thing to witness this happen, but it’s kind of funny to me too??? Like, how common is it for your ship to have One Canon of Dozens that seems to push for a relationship more familial 28 years after the characters’ original debut AND in arguably what’s become the most well known media with them, and what do you do about that? I personally have a deep soft spot for the found family message of the movie, and honest to god the fics people have made in the past few days alone about it have driven me to tears SO OFTEN because of how adorable and sweet it all is, but like......in terms of my art content, what is Movie Sonic and Movie Knuckles if not regular Sonic and Knuckles with extra fur and new shoes? I’m still drawing the exact same characters, and so far indulging in both the media where the ship is rocky and where the ship is completely justified feels...REALLY fucking weird. Like. Is that Okay. Am I completely closed off from enjoying this because I dug myself a hole for two years that’s too deep to jump out of and start over again? Or can I make this work somehow?

My only hope is that, if it is confirmed ten fold that they are undeniably siblings and not just awkward found family friends to besties (how I see the ending and onward so far, purely /p), people take the effort to check the dates of my pre-movie fan works before sending asks about it. I wouldn’t even consider myself a spokesperson for the ship anymore, if I’m being honest, again because of the weird behaviour and different views and interpretations I have of them compared to most anyway. Sonuckles/Sonknux will always have me in its grasps, and I’m obviously not changing how I create non-movie ship, but I’d rather make even more fun with what I got than waste my energy and cause unnecessary problems for myself trying to resist it.

I hope this is what you wanted to hear??? Like I’ve posted before, if anyone unbias can actually tell me what’s going on with them, PLEASE lmk!!! 👍 but either way team sonic fans STAY WINNING BABYYYYYYYYYY AAAUUYEGUSGGHGHHHHG SOBS

Sonknux/Sonuckles headcannons?

oh absolutely

X/Modern SonKnux:

- knux was the one to confess. “I really like you. More than i thought i did.” so sonic replies “so are we dating for real now or...?”

- regular sparring, like its a weekly thing for them and they get upset when that gets canceled due to unforseen circumstances

- not too touchy at the start but they warm up to hugs and cuddles

- sonic learns how to braid just to piss knux off by braiding his spikes while hes napping (knux actually loves it but wont admit it)

- regularly hang out in forests and parks, they both love lots of fresh air

- hand holding becomes Their Thing, like if one of them looks upset or scared the other Will hold his hand

- adhd/autistic/dyslexic powercouple. they Will read together and they Will enjoy it.

- knux is MEGA protective. If anything even comes close to hurting sonic he is ON IT.

- sonic isn’t too good with wording how he feels but knux gets it. he Knows.

- knux cooks a lot and sonic becomes taste-tester

- raise chaos together!!!!

Boom SonKnux:

- sonic was the first to admit his feelings but he did it super casually. “Yo knux im not gonna lie i kinda wanna date you.”

- adhd/dyslexic/autistic powercouple. nothing has changed.

- cuddles All The Time.

- knuckles cries quite often, sonic doesnt cry much at all, so when sonic starts crying one time knuckles is on full panic mode and does his best to help

- “wanna do something foolish?” is code for “lets go on a date”

- dates usually consist of hikes, beach sports or going absolutely feral

- knux confides in sonic that he feels stupid, and doesn’t like being percieved that way, so sonic does his best to correct people on certain things and defend knux when theyre making fun of him

- playfully mock eachother, but never let it get out of hand.

- Amy, Tails and Sticks sometimes decide to come with the boys on their casual dates because hey its free entertainment when they go crazy go stupid

- knux benchpresses sonic you cant convince me otherwise

- “bro close your eyes” “ok bro” “what do you see bro?” “nothing bro.” “thats my world without you bro” “bro.....” is them personified

- cannot fall asleep cuddling because sonic moves around a lot in his sleep and knux doesnt want to lose an eye to his bfs spikes (sometimes theyre just So tired tho that it just happens and knux often has a rude awakening from the needlemouse)

- knux carries sonic for no reason sometimes and everyone is like ?????

- video game nights are every saturday and they Will Not Miss It.

- kisses are not usually their thing. they’re down for hugging n playful punching, but sometimes knux just gets So full of love and sonic is Right There so guess what its time for one (1) smooch

- neither of them can cook. instant ramen is their staple.

- those bandages n that sports tape? they help eachother wrap them.

- sonics overloads? knux has big enough hands to cover his whole head. knux Will get him out of that situation.

oHBOY YES! Sonknux is actually my second favorite ship.

I do have head canons! Let’s see...

-> Knuckles actually has a very heavy reliance on Sonic when it comes to adapting to the rest of the world.

-> Knuckles had never even thought about leaving his island ever before until he met Sonic. Sonic instilled in Knuckles some of his wonderous nature that for the first time in his life he could say... he was curious about the outside world. Knuckles had always known it existed and had visited the surface before(on very rare occasions) but Sonic made him actually want to see more of it.

-> Sonic beneath all that playful and arrogant demeanor really does care about Knuckles and pays close attention to him.

-> Noone would think someone like Sonic could understand someone like Knuckles but Sonic spent a good amount of his first couple years befriending the echidna really trying to figure him out. Sonic can very much see past people's fronts and isn’t easily fooled. But Knuckles was hard to grasp ahold of. Once he realized how genuine Knuckles was did he realize that Knuckles wasn’t really putting up a front. He was cautious, angry, defensive, and stone-hearted for a reason. Nothing about Knuckles was an act.

-> Since Sonic can see through people pretty easily, the blue hero was the one to spot just how lonely Knuckles was far before Knuckles even came to the realization himself. Which made the blue hedgehog feel real bummed out about it.

-> In his own way, he’d tried to barge his way into Knuckles life but was met with resistance of every kind. However, Knuckles is the one who made Sonic realize that he wasn’t being genuine to himself. Which is why Knuckles didn’t trust him for a long time.

-> Sonic was used to being treated like a hero and welcomed everywhere with open arms. Knuckles... didn’t treat Sonic like a hero. He didn’t even know who Sonic was or what he’s done time and time again for Mobius. Which was... refreshing, for Sonic. He sort of made him grow up in a way.

-> Sonic was a hero, but when they met he was still a teenager. Who made stupid and borderline dumb decisions, bites off more than he could chew, says mean things sometimes when he didn’t mean it, and even had the occasional temper tantrum. Knuckles saw these sides of him and didn’t excuse them because he was a hero. He gave him that confrontation the blue hedgehog didn’t know he needed in his circle of friends. He could really be himself around Knuckles, with no filter and no sugar coating of his behaviors. Being around Knuckles actually gave Sonic room to reflect on himself and question some of the things he did.

-> Knuckles respects Sonic but he doesn’t turn a blind eye to those faults. And despite fully recognizing the less admirable parts of him and letting Sonic know time and time and again just how much of a pain in the ass he is, the echidna still eventually becomes one of Sonic’s closest friends the more years they grow together.

-> Truthfully, in these two cases, they fall for each other in very different ways. But Sonic would realize it first.

-> Knuckles thinks Sonic is too reckless to be a hero, but he thinks Sonic’s free nature is still beautiful in all of its flaws. He’s even envious of it sometimes. Sonic turned the world he looked at with distrust that could be full of possible enemies to a world that’s full of variety and wonder. Sonic’s impact on him he believes, messes with his Guardian duties because he really does make him want to leave that island of his. A feeling the echidna never thought he’d ever EVER be able to feel.

-> So while Knuckles does fall in love with Sonic he doesn’t realize that what he's feeling is actually love until Sonic approaches him first about it.

-> Sonic fell in love with Knuckles and absolutely knew it was love when it happened. Knuckles looks at him in a way no one else does and it’s always made his heart skip a beat or two. Knuckles has this genuine complexity to him that Sonic likes losing himself in. He likes getting to understand Knuckles and knowing he’s only able to do so because the echidna somehow, seems to trust him more than anyone else. He earned that. It was one of the very few things that took Sonic so long to earn that he really cherished.

-> And not to brag, but Sonic thinks that having some stoned face, powerhouse tough guy like Knuckles, who lives in a floating paradise in the sky and would drop everything just to back him up in a fight, as a boyfriend is a fairy tale envied by MANY.

-> Plus his boyfriend is a hot-head, and Sonic has a thing for hot-heads. He thinks Knuckles adorable when he loses his cool.

-> In many ways this relationship can work and at the same time, can fall apart.

-> Knuckles wouldn’t ever want to restrict Sonic of his freedom because that’s the biggest thing he loves about him. And Sonic wouldn’t ever force Knuckles to abandon the life he’s lived for so long just to run away with him. (Though it’s his wildest fantasy to be honest, Knuckles running away with him.)

-> Their relationship requires a lot of compromises to work but as they grow together and into adulthood, they absolutely get better at it

-> They work with Tails over the years to help install some sort of security system on the island that can make it easier for Knuckles to leave it for longer periods of times. Cause honestly, going on adventures with his boyfriend his favorite thing to do.

-> And traveling becomes so much more fun and invigorating for Sonic when he has his boyfriend with him.

-> Sonic does embarrassing little things like bring Knuckles flowers and pretending to serenade him in front of people. He’s incredibly silly with trying to play up the romance with his boyfriend but Knuckles finds his silliness endearing.

-> Sonic is not shy about letting people know that Knuckles is his boyfriend. He does it even when it’s not necessary. Knuckles is constantly embarrassed by this but is flattered. Sonic will introduce himself to people and without any hesitation say “And this is my boyfriend, Knuckles.” Eventually, Knuckles starts doing it here and there as well.

-> Knuckles doesn’t care what other people think but he’s a very private and quiet person and he shows his affection for the hedgehog more by taking action than using words.

-> Sonic is always asking Knuckles about how he feels, and if he’s enjoying himself when they’re together to encourage the echidna to communicate his emotions more. Since Knuckles gets stuck in his head a lot trying to figure out how to work himself around a relationship.

-> Knuckles is quiet but he’s very physically affectionate with Sonic.It took them a while to get to that point but while Sonic is absolutely shameless with throwing “I love yous” at him, Knuckles often responds in wholesome affectionate gestures like, kissing Sonics forehead, rubbing their noses together, holding Sonic’s hand, holding Sonics hand to his chest, etc. etc. He’s very hands-on with the blue hedgehog.

-> Sonic doesn’t take any offense and he knows Knuckles is saying it without words... but when he does open his mouth and say the words “I love you.”, Sonic is always left red as a tomato, speechless... and shamelessly asking him to say it again. (Which of course he does.)

-> Knuckles and Sonic are both switches so they trade roles very often depending on the mood.

-> Sonic and Knuckles jokingly insult each other a lot but it’s all fun and games. However, if someone insults Sonic and Knuckles is there, the glare that they would receive would be strong enough to make them apologize almost immediately.

-> Which of course the blue hero, loves.

-> Knuckles, in all his seriousness and sincerity, has a pretty naive soul. He’s cautious for a reason after all. It’s not hard to win him over if you know what you’re doing. The echidna is torn across those lines of “Wanting to trust people” and “People are too dishonest to trust.” So Sonic is very protective of Knuckles because of how gullible he can be. He doesn’t want Knuckles to change that part of him because he feels that is what makes him, Knuckles.

I HEARD YOU LIKE MOVIE SONKNUX AND LEMME SAY THAT I HAVE A MORBID FASCINATION OVER HOW THEIR DYNAMIC COULD GO WITH THE TRAUMA AND LONGCLAW AND ECHIDNA AND EVERYTHING OH MY GOD

SHAKES YOU SHAKES YOU IM SO GLAD WE’RE ON THE SAME PAGE OMGGGGGGGG

The fact that the director expressed how much he cares about their relationship makes me SO EXCITED AND HOPEFUL THAT THEY’RE GONNA HIT ALL THESE POINTS FOR THEM, ESPECIALLY BACKSTORY WISE AAAHHHHHH

I get. So Much out of the thought that these guys have been against eachother before they even knew who they were (due to being pitted against eachother by the Echidna and Longclaw). After the Eggman betrayal, only then will they finally get to decide how they feel about eachother without the input of anyone else, especially on Knuckles’ end.

ALSO I’VE MADE A LOT OF BACKSTORY ASSUMPTIONS ALREADY BUT HERE ME OUT: If Knuckles truly is still the Master Emerald guardian in this canon (along with being around Sonic’s age), its obvious why he wouldn’t be anywhere near the Longclaw attack, he’s being kept safe away from it. And maybe that’s how it is for him in general. Whilst Sonic got to have a childhood where he favoured his freedom and need for adventure over keeping his powers hidden, Knuckles might’ve been heavily sheltered due to the role he would soon take on. Maybe his only knowledge of what’s beyond his tribe is from their stories (how he could know about Sonic). I think this concept already provides some of the contrast these two characters have in most canon, especially when you consider that Knuckles doesn’t approve of how impulsive Sonic can be to a dangerous extent (yknow. such as getting caught by the Echidna when he was running around causing Longclaw to get left behind while he fled to Earth).

Having that contrast still present in some area of their life is especially important when considering that their movie selves actually can relate to eachother more than most canon due to (presumably) both of them growing up alone in the world without a family. It might be too hopeful to assume this will get addressed well, but I think it can be something so unique to these interpretations that I at least want fanon to make something out of it if it goes under the radar.

Speaking of my last paragraph, let me end this LONG response off with my favourite thing ever to come from this potential concept: Again, Sonic knows what it’s like to be alone, considering the emotional strife he went through (it made him cause a HUGE POWER OUTAGE), but he ultimately found his family and got accepted by at least one person. If he finds out that Knuckles was/is going through a similar thing, and Robotnik’s betrayal (potentially featuring a stolen M.E.) just made him stray even further from a “happy ending” like Sonic’s.....how do you think he’s going to react.

most badass character: all the hedgehogs are very badass. sega really made characters with the perfect balance of badass and baby

my thoughts: they. they are so cute.. i love them so much....

what makes me happy about them: i just. theyre adorable and i love them. and enemies to friends to lovers is so so good....

what makes me sad about them: that they were friends for a while but then sega went “nope shadow is sonic’s asshole rival now”

things done in fanfic that annoy me: sonic and/or shadow hating amy, and amy hating shadow for “stealing sonic away from her”... amy Does have a crush on sonic sure, but shes also his friend, so i think shed be very supportive of sonic being with shadow even if shes a little sad that sonic doesnt like her back

things i look for in fanfic: tbh werehogs. werehog fanfics are like the only things i go out of my way to find. most werehog fics are s*namy so if i manage to find a good sonadow fic with the werehog in it... epic win

my wishlist: uh i dont really know.

who i’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not eachother: for shadow, knuckles. for sonic, knuckles espio or mighty.

my happily ever after for them: idk man i just want them to be happy in general i dont have any specific plans for them.
