There are two kinds of rights at stake here: the rights to the master recordings of an artist’s work, and songwriting rights, known as publishing. One senior music publishing executive says their part of the business was ahead of the curve, explaining that publishing deals tend to work on exclusive licensing terms or retention periods. “Publishers pivoted from a rights-ownership business to the servicing of rights,” they say. Those retention periods are getting shorter, they add, down from about 25 years three decades ago to between 12 and 15 years today.
Message says he steers acts away from ownership-based contracts. “We have a default position that we won’t advise our artists to do life-of-copyright deals,” he says. “It’s not that we wouldn’t do them, but our strong advice would always be to come up with a licence arrangement of some description.”
This is the ideological underpinning of BMG and AWAL (Artists Without a Label), which is now under the ownership of Sony Music Entertainment. “The philosophy is flipping the relationship,” says Alistair Norbury, president of repertoire and marketing at BMG UK. “There had to be a fairer and more transparent way to work with the creative community.”
Acts on BMG’s roster – notably Kylie Minogue, Suede, Sigur Rós and Louis Tomlinson – are on licensing or assignment deals, so ownership of the recordings eventually reverts to them. “They want to be with a record label where they have creative control and ownership coming back to them at some point,” says Norbury.
AWAL sings from a similar hymn sheet. “AWAL emerged to help what we now call ‘independent artists’ to remain independent,” says Paul Hitchman, the company’s global COO. “Independent in the sense of owning their rights and retaining control over their career, but without having to compromise in terms of the expertise and support they can tap into, without having to compromise on the global reach and success that they can achieve.”
Norbury believes that, with more choices for acts, music companies have to repeatedly prove their worth and think about mutual gains rather than offering one-sided deals that are land grabs for all the rights. He says, “You want something successful in a long-term partnership rather than owning something that failed.”
In light of all this, the majors increasingly have to offer more flexible deal terms. They are also heavily investing in other artist and label services companies to gain a share of the boom in DIY and independent acts. Sony owns Awal and the Orchard. UMG has both Virgin Music Label & Artist Services and Ingrooves. Warner Music Group has Ada.
-
[Ed.: Louis Tomlinson’s licensing deal is with BMG. His publishing is through LT Publishing administered by Kobalt Music Group. This article implies that all rights for masters and publishing belong to Louis, and are licensed for a contracted period to BMG.]
[Ed.: In the second quarter of 2024, BMG has switched to in-house digital distribution and download services, and changed partners for physical distribution from Warner to UMG.]

Cyclone [Yandere Chuuya x Reader]
Title: Cyclone [Yandere Chuuya x Reader]
Synopsis: Chuuya catches you sneaking out to meet Dazai and punishes you for it.
Word Count: 3226
Notes: yandere, physical abuse, bondage, NSFW, noncon forced orgasms, coercion
Tumblr media
It's not often that you run into Dazai anymore. It's definitely not often that you run into Dazai with Chuuya right beside you, his lips pressed into a thin line of deeply-rooted irritation at the casual, nonchalant way Dazai addresses you.
“It’s been a while, hasn’t it?” Dazai says. Your name then rolls off his tongue almost sweetly, and you swear you can practically feel Chuuya’s muscles tense beside you. It makes your stomach clench. Chuuya has been on edge lately. More domineering, more demanding. Ever since… well. Your leg still aches when you think about it, and so you try not to think about it at all.
“It has,” you say, neutrally enough, you hope. Dazai is wearing his ADA get-up and it contrasts so starkly with the sleek, black clothing you and Chuuya donned that morning. You’re wearing a short black suit with defined shoulders--the pop of pink in your skin-tight shirt underneath was your idea--and thigh high boots. They looked impractical, but you knew enough that you could run, fight and (most importantly) kick in them.
“Have you grown taller since I saw you last?” Dazai asks. “Ah,” he continues, voice dropping into a mockery of sorrow as he glances down at your boots. “I was mistaken. It’s the boots, no? That’s why you two are so fond of these elaborate outfits, isn’t it?” He pauses for effect. “The heels, I mean.”
His smile widens just a little at his words, and it takes a beat in your stress-addled mind to realize that he’s fucking with the two of you without a care in the world. Well, it figures. He always did like playing with fire.
“Piss off,” Chuuya says, and he grips your arm. “We’re leaving.” Dazai glances down at where Chuuya’s hand holds tight to your arm and then back up to you. In his eyes, for just a moment, there’s a flicker of something.  A question, maybe, at Chuuya’s aggressive grip or… an offer?
You swallow the thickness in your throat and comply as Chuuya leads you away. He only glances back at Dazai once, but says nothing of it. You follow suit, and in the moment you see Dazai, he holds up his fingers and mouths the words: Here. Midnight.
It was definitely an offer.
**
“Open it. C’mon, it won’t bite.” Chuuya’s grin feels forced, fake. You wonder if he knows this. Or if your view of his once-comforting grin is an unfortunate by-product of weeks of stress culminating in your mind returning again and again to the image of Dazai standing behind you, mouthing those fateful words.
The box in your hands remains real, and Chuuya still stands in front of you with bright anticipation, regardless of which option is true. So you force yourself to meet Chuuya’s eyes and smile just a little, before you open the lid.
It’s a necklace. An expensive one. The chain practically glistens gold and the pendant is your first initial, studded with diamonds and accented with your favorite gemstone--your birthstone, actually. You’ve never had a real one, only dyed fake gems that you picked up from corner markets when  you were little. You used to lie to your friends and say they were real, though looking back at those childhood memories, they certainly never believed you.
For a moment, your heart feels warm. It feels tugged upon by Chuuya’s fingers, fingers that had tilted up your chin before a kiss, fingers that had touched you in ways that made you melt. Fingers that had gripped your arm so hard earlier today that there are faint bruise on your skin.
“Is this…” You trail off, hand ghosting over the pendant and the gem.
“Of course,” he replies, voice thick with approval, with a deep sort of smugness that comes whenever he manages to reel you back in. “Do you like it? You deserve something special, I know I haven’t been treating you lately. So…”
Perhaps a while ago, this would be where you threw your arms around Chuuya and kissed him and buried your face in his neck and forgave whatever happened before. But now, all you can do is wonder what time it is--and whether or not you can successfully meet with Dazai without Chuuya finding out.
Your fingers grip the chain and you hold it up, offering it to Chuuya.
“I love it.” You do, and your voice is sincere, even if your heart is not. “Will you put it on me? I’d love to wear it when we go out for dinner.”
The pendant, though small, weighs heavy around your neck.
**
Chuuya must have not sensed the tension thrumming under your skin all night, because he fell asleep without any trouble and slept like a log as you crept out of the bedroom. You didn’t have time to change out of your nightclothes, so you threw on a long overcoat to cover up the flimsy material. You’d forgotten to take the necklace off at bedtime, and some small part of you imagined that it burned against your skin with very step you took towards the awaiting figure of Dazai.
He was just visible in the shadows of the city, illuminated by a nearby streetlamp. It made him look seedy. Perhaps that was fitting, in some ways.
He gets right to the point and you’re not surprised by anything he says. An offer to join the ADA. Glorification of your skills, your knowledge, the way you could be an asset to the ADA. That’s not what gives you pause--that’s not what brought you here, either.
It’s the way Dazai looks at you like he knows. Knows that Chuuya’s started to become too much for you, knows that some part of you wants to pull away from him. Knows that you want more than the life you currently lead.
“I’ll think about it,” you tell him, before he allows himself a small grin. And it’s not a platitude.  You mean it. You really will.
“You know where to find me.” It’s all he says in farewell, and before you know it, you’re alone again.
The walk back home feels twice as long and precarious than your midnight excursion. You pull the coat tighter around you, but you can’t shake the feeling of something being wrong. Your shoes are too loud. Your breath is too heavy. The street lamps are alternatively too bright--revealing your figure easily to anyone who might be watching--and too dark, making it hard to find your way.
A strange mixture of relief and fear bubbles in your stomach when you approach the entrance of the condominium tower where the pair of you currently stayed. You imagined Chuuya out like a light--you imagined yourself creeping back into your place, shrugging off the coat, grabbing a glass of water and coming back into the bedroom like you’d just popped out for a drink. Just in case Chuuya woke up when you returned, of course.
You never got that far.
All of your nerves tingle in a white hot flash as someone wraps an arm tight around your neck, pulling you flush against them; a hand slaps over your mouth before you can do anything but utter a strangled gasp.
Your body, well trained, relaxes--and you’re about to administer a perfectly tuned elbow to a spot that should render your attacker incapacitated long enough for you to whip around and pull out your knife, when a familiar voice hisses in your ear.
“Don’t you fucking dare.“ Your name is practically spat but you barely hear it.
Chuuya had followed you. And no doubt heard every single word of the exchange.
Warm numbness makes your legs feel weak. Or is Chuuya using his skill on you? You genuinely can’t tell, but for a brief moment, fear flashes through your stomach. On cue, there’s a familiar ache in your leg.
The walk back up to the condo, Chuuya gripping your wrists so tight that tears prick at your eyes, feels like a thousand miles.
**
On the elevator up to Chuuya’s place--your shared place, now--you get your fight back. You didn’t just mouth off or ignore his commands during a mission. You didn’t just threaten to leave in a stormy huff. Chuuya caught you fraternizing with Dazai; he no doubt overheard you consider Dazai’s pitch to join the ADA.
And your mind and body force you to at least try to get out of Chuuya’s grasp, because this uncharted territory into waters you don’t want to dip a toe in.
But Chuuya renders your body useless easily enough, and you have just enough sense to not fight the limpness as he throws you over his shoulder to carry you out of the elevator and into the bedroom. If you fight it, you might get worse than a broken leg.
He doesn’t keep you weightless for long. Just enough to cuff you to the bed by your wrists and ankles. He doesn’t say a word the entire time, and your stomach ties itself into a thousand knots in the silence. He’s angry. You can feel that, thick and hot and terrifying. What will he do?
The weight comes back to your body slowly, and it’s only your ability to pull at your restraints that makes you realize you’re normal and not weighted down with too much gravity. You don’t know if it’s worse to be restrained by the metal cuffs or your own distorted body.
You hear one of Chuuya’s dresser drawers opening--a foreboding sound, at the moment--and your jaw trembles as you force yourself to finally speak.
“Chuuya. Let’s talk about… this.”
There’s a few more moments of agonizing silence. And then he’s looming over you, mouth twisted into a terrible frown.
“And by this you mean your betrayal?”
You swallow the lump in your throat.
“I didn’t--”
His eyes flick down to your neck, and you think for a brief flash that he’s going to choke you. Instead he grips the necklace still around your neck and yanks it off, breaking the chain in the process. You hear the pendant drop on the floor next to the bed.
“Don’t lie to me. You’re shitty at it. Just like you’re shitty at sneaking out at midnight.”
Lying would only make it worse. So you force yourself to meet his eyes and try to remember that you’re a capable member of the Port Mafia. Your relationship with Chuuya may be complicated and increasingly fucked up, but that doesn’t change who you are, does it? You’ve stood up to Chuuya before.  You can do it again.
“All right. Fine. I met with Dazai.” You clench your hands and the handcuffs clink against the headboard.  “Do you know why?”
Chuuya’s frown twists deeper, and something flashes behind his eyes. Recognition, maybe. Acknowledgement. Some small seedling of hope sparks within you. Maybe… maybe he’ll say that he knows he’s been horrible lately, and promise to change. He’ll say you can move out and the two of you will take a break. You can get reassigned until things cool down. Or--
“Because you don’t know what’s best for you.”
Hope, as always, deflates fast and hard.
Your breath comes out shuddering, a frustrated ghost of a sound. The reasonable part of your mind tells you to shut up. To let him do what he’s going to do and get it over with, and decide on a plan of action from there. But since when do you listen to the reasonable part of your mind?
“Because of the way you’ve been acting towards me.  It’s fucked up.” Thickness in your throat makes your voice catch. “You hurt me.  You--” You bite the inside of your cheek and will yourself not to cry. But it’s hard when you think about how swiftly things have taken a downturn lately. How different Chuuya has been acting. How horrible it makes you feel--yet how conflicted, despite everything.
“I want to leave. Even if I don’t join the ADA. I just want to leave.” Your voice is a hoarse whisper.
You expect Chuuya to yell. You expect him to snarl. Instead, he smiles. And it’s more terrifying than anything else he might have done in that moment.
“Thought you might say something stupid like that. Well, I’ve got just the thing.” He waves his arm and it takes you a moment to realize what he has in his hand--a vibrator. A big pink thing with a trailing electrical cord, something he got from a catalog and that you only used once, because it was too strong to be comfortable for very long.
Your gut twists in disbelief.
“Chuuya, you can’t--I don’t--that’s-”
He doesn’t let you stammer anything else out. Instead, he lifts up the silky fabric of your nightgown and yanks down your panties. There’s a strange fear mixed with something cold and clinical as he turns back to his nightstand and rustles through the drawer, pulling out a roll of grey duct tape with an air of triumph.
“Chuuya.” Your voice shakes a little. “Let me up. Seriously. We can talk about this, or fight, or whatever the hell, but you can’t--”
The sound of ripping tape covers up your next words, and you swear Chuuya hums softly to himself as he presses the vibrator against your bare sex and winds the tape around your thigh. He shoves it, or tries to, but it doesn’t budge.
Finally, he looks back up at your face. He doesn’t look furious. He looks righteous and assured.
“You know, all of your troubles come down to one thing. You don’t respect that I know what’s best for you. You don’t listen out in the field, you certainly don’t listen here in the apartment…” His hand goes to the switch, and you shake your head in one last attempt to dissuade him before he flicks the button.
The vibrator buzzes to life, and immediately your legs begin to pull and twist, trying to dislodge the thing or at least ease the sensations being forced on you. But the handcuffs are firm and the tape keeps the vibrator neatly in place.
“I’ll let you think on that for a while.” You say his name in desperate protest, but he doesn’t even turn around as he walks through the threshold. “Have fun,” he calls back, before shutting the door.
You’re alone. You scream out his name a few more times but soon enough, you’re too distracted by the uncomfortable sensation being forced through you from the vibrator. It’s too much, like running a fast mile without any warm up.
The first orgasm hits hard and fast with barely any warning. Like you were plugged into an orgasm machine and someone merely hit “go!” without bothering with foreplay.
And the vibrations continued on through your orgasm, through the way your thighs shake, steady and unrelenting and unforgiving. Normally, Chuuya takes away his fingers or his mouth or whatever toy he’s using on  you once you’ve ridden out your orgasm--but there’s no such mercy here. The feeling simply continues on… and on… and on.
There’s an almost tickling sensation that takes over after your first orgasm dwindles away. But there’s arousal, too, an insistent kind of arousal that is unlike anything you’ve felt before. It merely presses upon you, not the product of Chuuya carefully prepping you or you fantasizing all day about Chuuya working his fingers to great effect--but a robotic sensation that was pure biological effect and nothing more.
The second orgasm builds slower, and it’s more satisfying. You can’t help but moan into the empty bedroom, throwing your head back on the pillow and humping yourself harder into the vibrator taped between your legs. It feels good, so good--
Until your orgasm is dutifully over and it’s too much, and your moan turns into a high keening cry, a desperate sound.
Overstimulation is not something you enjoy. Chuuya always makes sure to stop just before it gets to be too much.
The vibrator doesn’t know or care about any of that.
It buzzes on, unrelenting, while you start to call out Chuuya’s name in earnest.
**
You don’t know how long Chuuya leaves you alone, or how many orgasms you have. They all begin to blur together in one horrible hot, low feeling. There’s pain mixed in the pleasure, a feeling that is not quite numbness but feels like an overstretched muscle being forced to run again and again. Your hair is plastered to your face with sweat, and every muscle in your thighs is sore from shaking and pulling and clenching.
The vibrator turns off suddenly and you sob in relief. Chuuya soon climbs onto the bed, and your stomach hurts as your muscles tense in anticipation of what might come next.
“Did you learn your lesson?” He asks, but his tone doesn’t ask you for an answer. You’re too fucked out to give a proper one, anyway.
“Or… if this wasn’t enough…” His gloved fingers ghost over your puffy folds, which have gone a deeper shade from the overstimulation. Your thighs shake. “I could just turn you in, you know.”
“What?” A breathy sound comes from between your lips. “You wouldn’t. You wouldn’t.”
“I could. I would.”
His thumb presses down on your clit, and you throw your head back and let out a keening cry. “It’d be simple. You’d have no one to turn to, would you? Not even Dazai could step in. You’d have to beg me to save you.” He begins to rub a circle with his thumb, and the overstimulated nerves in your clit spark to life.
“Stop, stop--”
“Promise,” he says. His thumb pauses its movements and you can catch your breath. “Promise you won’t leave. Ever. Promise you won’t even think about it.” And then he’s moving again, working on your overstimulated clit with precision.
You break.
It’s everything. It’s the soreness of your clit and your muscles, the way the handcuffs are rubbing the skin of your wrists raw; the fear of being cast out and turned in, of being at the mercy of officers who might not share a certain someone’s affection for you; it’s the old ache in your leg and the memory of Chuuya’s lips on your own and all the fluttery feelings, but the terrible ones too; everything all at once that presses on your chest so hard it might break your ribs.
“I promise.” The words are spit out in desperation.
His thumb pauses again, and the relief is a blessing.
“Swear it. Swear on your life.”
“I swear, Chuuya. I swear!”
The moment the words pass your lips, his stimulation stops. Your lip trembles as you breathe through your nose, in and out, a pitiful attempt to regain control over your pounding heart and broken nerves.
Chuuya’s other hand reaches up and begins to pet your sweat soaked forehead. The leather is cool on your overheated skin.
“Good girl,” he murmurs, and you hate the way the praise in his voice makes you feel relief. His hand trails down to your chin, and he tilts it up as he leans in closer.
“Say it again.” His breath tickles your lips. “Say you won’t leave me.”
Your lips tremble against his.
“I won’t leave you.”
The kiss is salty with sweat and tears.

Her remake version is more popular than Jill and that is a fact. People are demanding more content of her. She is Leon's romantic interest, people want to see more of her. And she deserved to be on Fortnite and not Claire, Claire is even lower than Jill.
"IT'S TRUE BECAUSE I SAY IT'S TRUE"
you know that capcom makes business decisions based on focus group testing, mass market research data, and allocation of funds, right? there's a reason why claire got chosen for fortnite over ada. it's because capcom made a tactical marketing decision based on data they had collected, which told them that claire was more immediately recognizable to a wider number of people than ada was. and the reason for that is because claire is a playable protagonist in a mainline game, and ada isn't.
jill paved the way for other female characters in video games. ada hasn't done that. jill is considered a mascot of the series. ada isn't.
just because kids on tiktok like ada doesn't mean that that reflects the reality of the wider video game community or the overall perception of resident evil as a series. this is why i continuously beg and plead with you guys to play other video games. but you refuse to do that, and then you get mad about reality because it doesn't reflect your highly curated little bubble.

The Way Things Were | Tommy Shelby x Reader
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
Chapter 2: A Warm Welcome
You tsked, carefully wrapping up Arthur's finger to a splint. Polly's gaze was set upon you with the utmost concentration from the corner of the room, face twisted in dismay. Ada was rushing around, grabbing cloths while John stood, rather amused in the doorway. Blood dripped off Arthur's brow and crusted on the corner of his split lip. "Hold bloody still" You ordered, pulling his finger too hard, prompting him to whine. Becoming satisfied with the job you had done on his finger, you took a damp cloth to his face.
"John, help (Y/N) get the blood out of his eyes" Ada demanded, not wanting to get involved with you. It had become clear that the police weren't going to leave you alone after all.
"Since when do you give orders?" He retorted from the doorway, smirking and rather pleased with himself.
"I'm a trained nurse" Ada shot back. You couldn't help but laugh, and it seemed that the rest of the boys were the same way. Arthur was struggling to keep his face stern from the pain.
"Don't make me laugh. It hurts me face' Arthur instructed.
"I bloody am" Ada said firmly.
"You went to one first aid class in the church hall and got thrown out for giggling" John teased. Ada looked as though she wanted to explode her brother with her mind, her face becoming red with frustration.
"Not before I learnt how to stop somebody from choking" She remarked, pouring the kettle which had just finished boiling onto a towel. You weren't sure how that was going to help in the situation and frankly, neither did Arthur.
"Well I'm not bloody choking, am I?"
"You will be when I wrap this cloth around your neck". Sibling love reminded you of how you and your sister used to act under the same roof. That's when you spotted Tommy marching through the door with a bottle of alcohol in his hands and a cigarette hanging from his lips.
"Let me see him" He declared, putting the bottle down on the table beside Arthur. Leaning down and scooting next to me, Tommy gently took the washcloth from my hands and rinsed it in the tub. Arthur had taken a sip of the alcohol, groaning as he did so. "Gimmie that" Tommy mumbled about the bottle, dousing the cloth with the liquid. Without hesitation, he brought the cloth to Arthur's face and the man hissed in pain as though his skin was being burnt off. Arthur put his arm out on Tommy's.
"He said Mr Churchill sent him to Birmingham. National interest, he said. Something about a robbery". Tommy recoiled from Arthur like he had touched a hot stove, playing with his cigarette. "He said he wants us to help him"
"We don't help coppers" John snapped, being pushed against the door when Ada entered the room.
"He knew all about our war records. He said we're patriots like him. Wants us to be his eyes and ears. I said-" His words were interrupted by a sharp groan as you put the cloth to his brow. Polly shushed him. "I said we'd have a family meeting and take a vote". You watched attentively at Tommy's face as it shifted, his chest slowly rising and falling but remaining silent. "Well... why not? Hmm? We have no truck with Fenians or Communists"
No response again.
"What's wrong with you? What the fuck is wrong with him lately?". Unlike Arthur, you felt as though you could accurately guess that perhaps Tommy's head wasn't in the right place since he came back. Aunt Polly shook her head in disapproval,
"If I knew, I'd buy the cure from Comptom's Chemists"
-
You were busiest at midday when deciding that you were going to step out of the shop and go down to the market. With half an hour of allocated break, you'd be back in no time. A nice fur coat was wrapped around your shoulders, something you had been able to gift yourself since your last payment. For it being midday, the streets were filled with fog but still kept bustling by the devoted working class. Occasionally, a smile would be sent your way as most people knew who you were and who you were associated with.
"Good afternoon, Miss (L/N)" Curly beamed, directing your attention over to him. You stopped walking in the direction of the market and pivoted your goal to the caretaker. The area of the scrap yard was muddier than usual, grit appearing on the soles of your burgundy high heels.
"Afternoon, Curly. How are you?". The nicely dressed fellow was leant up against a post. You had your arms crossed, holding each other. It caught you by surprise to run into the man so far from Charlie Strong's yard and you determined he must have been on an errand for one of the boys.
"Very good, Miss (L/N), very good. Tom has been taking care of me". You had noticed Curly always had a bit of a stutter, often causing him to repeat his words once or twice. Especially when he talked about something he was passionate about, such as horses. "I'm sure he has. I'm about to head to the market, do you need anything?" You smiled. It was nice to hear how proudly some of the associates with the Shelby family talked about Tommy in particular.
"No, thank you, Miss." With his answer, you took your leave back onto the main road. There was an irking feeling that had risen inside you since you left the shop. Like a cloud of paranoia had settled over you, you checked over your shoulder every few streets. You had dismissed the feeling at first but when speaking with Curly, you couldn't help but feel as though you were being watched from the shadows.
Nevertheless, you shook your head and rounded a corner. The smell of steaming bread hit your face like a brick, lowly chatter escaping the stalls. The market was packed with people, children screaming, tired mothers with baskets at their hips and suave-looking men, bargaining for the best price. You remembered you had forgotten to bring your basket and decided you were just going to have to carry the supplies yourself. John wanted bread, milk and eggs for the kids, Arthur wished for a new pipe and you just wanted to get out of the house before you shot someone.
The first stall was easy enough as the bread, milk and eggs had been clumped together. After inspecting the goods, you offered the hardened lady the money and tucked the items in a paper bag you had acquired from her. Lucky for you, there was a small tobacco stall right next to her, run by an older man with salt and pepper hair. He didn't speak a word to you, watching your petite frame bend over the items like a hawk. His head flicked to one side and you felt a dark presence beside you. The man from the counter disappeared into the smoke. Nerves spiking, you didn't dare lift your head as you perused through the different pipes on display.
"Wonderfully crafted pipes. Do you smoke?" A heavy Belfast accent asked.
You shook your head dismissively, your lip curling into a snarl on one side of your face. "It's not for me"
"Arthur Shelby, then, perhaps?". Your head snapped up from the items and instinctively dropped the pipe you were holding in your rosy hands. A hasty scan in all directions had shown that the whole market had been cleared out. "How is he, by the way? Doing well after our chat?". You wrapped your coat even tighter around your waist, keeping the groceries under your arm.
"As strong as ever, I'm afraid". Studying the man's squashed frame, you came to the conclusion that he was the chief of police Tommy had been concerned about. He had an ugly, wrinkled face with a sluggish black moustache, his head adorned with a bowler hat.
"Well then, please remind him I won't just be going after him and his brothers if he has any correlation to the robbery. I'm sure even a pretty face like you can deliver such a simple message"
"Yes, I'm confident I could. But, even if they were involved in a robbery, I wouldn't know. I'm merely a secretary of sorts" You lied surely, not batting an eyelid. Ever since you were a child, Tommy had remarked how fluent of a liar you were and how well you could pull it off. You weren't sure if the inspector believed you but it was enough to get him off your case.
He snorted, head throwing back with laughter, "A secretary! Racketeers such as your bosses having a secretary. Now that's comical". You brought your watch to your face, staring at the man with cold and blank eyes, clearly bored with the encounter.
"Hmm, well if I work for such ruthless racketeers, I really must be getting back, I'm officially off my lunch break. Wouldn't want to show up face down in the Canal. If you will excuse me, sir". Almost pushing him out of the way, you paced past him, heels clacking on the stone pavement. Relief washed over you as you entered Peaky Blinder territory once again. Spineless bastard wouldn't have dared do it in an area where the Shelby associates could see.
As soon as you stepped into the gambling shop, you practically threw the bag down onto the table. The first man you laid eyes on was going to be an unlucky one, as his balls would be the ones you would be tempted to cut off. Unlucky John, you thought, as your friend appeared in front of you. "John, tell your kids that I love them, but Auntie (Y/N) needs a raise if she's going to be harassed by police officers when she goes out to get groceries". Lighting a cigarette for yourself had become second nature recently, maybe Ada was right about your addiction. Arthur had opened the door from his office to peek his head out the door and see what was going on.
"(Y/N), where's my pipe?". You cocked your head to the side, about to stab a man.
"What are you talking about?" John posed, eyes widened slightly in shock. You pinched the bridge of your nose, swooping in to take John by the hand and pull him into Arthur's office.
Arthur's brows furrowed in confusion, "Oi I was busy in here"
The words 'You'll want to hear what I have to say' shut him up very quickly.
"Your little chief inspector friend paid me a visit. Set me up. They have this place staked out, followed me from here to the market, and when he finally decided to make a move on me, he emptied the market so there were no witnesses. Told me real straight, asked about you, how you were doing and told me to tell you 'please remind him I won't just be going after him and his brothers if he has any correlation to the robbery' and then I left. So, forgive me about the pipe, I got a bit startled"
"Bastard" Arthur growled, "I don't want you leavin' without being escorted for the time being.
"John" He barked, turning to his brother with anger, "I want Tommy here immediately"
-
The next day, the boys were out at the fair, doing business with the Lees, you were told. You were also told to keep the fort down with Polly. So you stayed in the shop the whole day, smoking and drinking. You always got along well with her. She was like your own Aunt when you were younger since your parents didn't have any siblings. Ada had disappeared off God knows where so you were in a somewhat grumpy state.
"I'm thinking of taking a day or two off to see my mum" You mumbled from the silence, taking a sip of whiskey. She glanced up from her drink, examining you with her sombre, oak-coloured eyes.
"You know they won't let you go alone to see Mary?"
"I don't really care. They can come if they want. Mum would be happy to see them. She always thought they were sweet boys" You chuckled, knowing they hadn't seen your mother in years. Part of you wondered if one of the brothers would come. Even Elsie would be glad to see them. Your eye drifted to the corner of the hallway, Scudboat rushing down the hall with urgency.
"The police are doing a raid!" He announced, huffing and puffing as he leaned against the doorframe. You and Polly shared a look and stood up suddenly from the table. You dashed over to the window, slipping your fingers between the lace curtains. It was easy to spot the influx of police spilling over from the next street. The boys were not going to be happy when they came back, that was for sure.
"Polly, Ada's out there" You stated bitterly.
"Don't worry about her. She'll be alright. We have to worry about here"
-
Everyone sat around the table, beers in hands, waiting for a proper explanation. Your hypothesis was correct that the boys wouldn't be happy when they came home, Arthur almost flipping a table in anger. Their movements were stiff and cold. "The coppers told everyone Arthur'd agreed to it when he was arrested. They said the Peaky Blinders had cleared out to the fair to let them do it" Polly explained, lighting herself a match. John was serving everyone beer from a bucket that sat in the middle of the table.
"Like hell" you muttered, "We've seen how he plays dirty to get what he wants"
"I never said nothing to that copper about smashing up bloody houses" Arthur retorted at Polly's remark.
"All right, which pubs did they do?" Tommy inquired.
"The Guns, the Chain, the Marquis. The ones that pay you to protect them" Polly informed, "Only one they didn't touch was the Garrison. Make sure people think we were in on it". You knew how that would look to clients of ours. It was intentional, of course.
"He's smart, this copper. So go on, drink your beers and get out. You'd better show people you are still the cocks of the walk" Polly ordered. The men cleared out of the main room, grabbing their jackets off chairs and dissipating out the door. You took the glasses from off the tables and to the nearby sink.
"Hand out some cash to the landlords of the pubs. Pay some veterans to fix the places up" Tommy instructed, the men giving their boss a subtle nod. "So what about you then, Tommy?" Arthur questioned, slipping his jacket onto his shoulders. He positioned his hand behind your back, "Come on (Y/N/N)"
"I have to go to Charlie's to stable the horse. She looked footsore in the box". You and Arthur turned around, Polly closing the doors behind you.

Many golden age British sitcoms were recast and adapted for the US market; Steptoe and Son became Sandford and Son, Man About the House became Three's Company, 'Til Death Us Do Part became All in the Family, and For the Love of Ada became A Touch of Grace.
Some found lasting success, while others never made it past the US pilot stage. One that sank like a stone was The Rear Guard, a 1976 attempt to recreate the success of Dad's Army.
With the original cast busy with the Dad's Army stage tour during 1976, Writers Jimmy Perry and David Croft were invited by ABC (America) to submit a script, and they chose, from a catalogue of over 70 episodes by this point, an adaptation of probably the most famous and best-remembered, The Deadly Attachment, from 1973, in which Philip Madoc played a captured U-Boat captain, confined with his crew by the Home Guard awaiting transfer to a POW facility.
When the U-Boat captain demands Private Pike's name for insulting Hitler, Captain Mainwaring calls, "Don't tell him, Pike!", a moment that is often rated just behind Del-Boy falling through the bar as one of the funniest moments in British comedy.
The Home Guard was reimagined as a WWII civil defence unit for the American version, guarding against an invasion of the US mainland. Notable cast members included Eddie Foy Junior, a member of the famous Vaudeville family, who played Bert Wagner (Cpl Jones), Captain Mainwaring became Nick Rosatti (Cliff Norton) and Private Pike became Bobby Henderson, played by Dennis Kort.
(Yep, Nick Rosatti did call out, "Don't tell him, Henderson!")
The platoon sergeant, Raskin, was played by Lou Jacobi, and the likeable villain (Walker), became Don Crawford and was played by John McCook, who has since carved out a long career in The Bold and the Beautiful and won a daytime Emmy for most outstanding actor in 2022.
Tumblr media
The pilot aired on US television in the summer of 1976, but was not particularly well received. The network wiped the master tape, although copies are held in private collections.
In a later interview, Jimmy Perry and David Croft recalled that, when they arrived in the US, they were picked up from the airport in a limousine and generally treated like royalty by the network.
They had to find their way back to the airport in a cab.

Alice (2009)
Smoking: Neil Bongstrong
So, this technically isn’t a movie, but a tv mini Series and definitely one of my favorites. We follow Caterina Scorsone, Alice, as she travels to… you guessed it! Wonderland.
My husband and I are currently watching Law and Order SVU, and there is a new ADA played by Philip Winchester who is Jack Chase in this series. So, I’ve been itching to watch it every time we see him pop up on the screen.
Tumblr media
This week’s is a little bit harder. I have a poor sick kitten who is demanding love and attention so having double duty.
We basically have all of the characters from the original in here. There is the white rabbit, played by Alan Gray. He isn’t really a rabbit just a man that is running from CS and his hair is long and in two low pony tails that look as if they are his ears.
CS goes through the looking glass into almost half a world. It is floating and boy is it a long way down if you fall. I like to think of this as more of a modern-day Alice, where she is smarter 😂 By smarter I mean she doesn’t take the bate to drink the vile, but still gets captured. Also, not a blonde but brunette. Maybe that’s why she is smarter 🤣 don’t take offense if you’re blonde please, just making a joke.
The first time I watched it was with my friend Rachel and I was soooo baked! There is a scene where people are almost like at the stock market yelling out numbers to purchase emotions. The first time I watched it I thought they were all whispering. Almost like they were in a bubble. Totally not what happens 😂
Tumblr media
This happens at the Tea House. And guess who runs it? None other than Hatter, played by Andrew Lee Potts. I’ve been in love with him ever since I’ve watched it 😍
Tumblr media
There is even a larger gentleman, Dave ‘Squatch’ Ward that plays the Walrus. Though he is more of an enforcer if you will.
In this adaptation The Queen of Hearts, played by THE Kathy Bates, is married to of course the King of Hearts, Colm Meaney.
Not only do we have KB in here. But the magnificent Tim Curry!! He plays Dodo. He isn’t in too much of the series. But just having him in it is enough for me 😄
KB still likes to take the heads of those who oppose her.
I love how ALP gets shot by TC and he acts like he’s all super hurt and CS is all concerned just to find out that he is wearing a bullet proof vest.
Tumblr media
What did I say about it being a long way down? There is the March Hair looking for CS. Though he is called Mad March in this. He straight up threw a guy off of the edge and you just hear him scream allllll the way down.
There is even a Jabberwock! It looks nothing like the one from the one from Tim Burton’s Alice. It actually looks a little derpy 😂
Tumblr media
My favorite character is the White Knight, played by Matt Frewer. He is goofy, does a lot of synonyms. Or as I pronounce them cinnamons lolololol. He also apparently does toe nail readings 🤔 whatever that means.
Another similarity is that there is the same cat, Dinah, that surprise CS follows in the forest. Though she turns into the Cheshire Cat.
Tumblr media
The part with Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum is played by Eugene Lipinski, and he’s some kind of mind doctor where they try to find out information form CS. There are some trippy backgrounds that are almost like a hypnosis.
Love when ALP and MF are trying to sneak in to the Casino and ALP has this hat trick 🤣 wish I was that cool.
Tumblr media
There is a different kind of flamingo. They don’t play croquet, more of fly on them. Watching them on it makes me think of “Choking the Chicken” 😂☠️
How trippy is it to make a reality extend when you enter it from another door. Press of a button, boom the rest of the roof of a building, plus the remaining part of the decaying world.
Definitely a good thing that SC was doing Karate in the real world. Helps her to be able to escape. Then she takes a flamingo through the forest almost like she’s racing on Endor with Leia 🤣
It would be so weird to sit in a room full of eyeballs just staring at you. And way to have terrible hiding skills. Literally they hid behind a pillar but there were people coming form the left. They so would have seen them 🙄
Alice of course brings down the house and wins. She set Wonderland free from the evil queen of hearts.
Thanks for reading!
Toke on! 😶‍🌫️

Procrastinating again this is terrible
Is there any sexual relationship that the Shelby extended family tries to have that Tommy doesn’t try to control or influence in some way?
Ada and Freddie - ok but only under certain conditions
Ada and Ben - ok but only because T approved of Ben and secretly because T needed Ben bound to the family
Arthur and Linda - incredibly bothered by it and makes it well known under every circumstance possible by demonstrating The Most Normal Brotherly Behaviour (tm)
Arthur and the Russian Orgy - I still don’t know how to describe that expression Tommy gets when Arthur starts to get an erection
John and Lizzie
(Lizzie and John
Lizzie and Angel)
John and Esme (to the point of walking in to make it clear brotherly demands are more important than wife sex even if Tommy arranged the marriage)
Finn and the whore (buy him a better one, will you Lizzie?)
Finn and the girl whose name I’ve forgotten
Polly and Abarama (approved if not initiated; basically traded Polly albeit she endorsed it)
Michael and Gina (the sheer disgust he has for her, I was expecting disgusted sex at some point but Tommy is bad at using sex to show his disdain, even if he sort of starts out with that intention sometimes)
….?
Sex and relationships are such a commodity market in his mind it’s crazy. Everything is transactional. Right down to how he trades Linda to come back into the family fold.
