My top five mangaka based on their style in no/semi order???:
1) Takehiko Inoue- the precision on all levels from portraiture, landscapes, backgrounds, character design, framing, etc as an artist here, is unbeatable to me. Again, the perfect marriage between working from real life examples and artistic warmth from the freedom of illustration.
2) Naoki Urasawa- perfect example of simplification (particularly a mastery of planes and expression) without compromising facial variety. Very distinct and recognizable style as well that's a beautiful fusion between the familiarity to the western school of comics and the lusher but lighter illustration heavy roots of Japanese manga
3) Q Hayashida- Another perfect example or establishing a truly individualistic style. Proof that your linework doesnt have to necessarily be the perfect crisp clean standard, but instead one where heavier, darker, more abundant, and organizedly chaotic lines can lend linework real energy and charm.
4) Kentaro Miura- where high skill and severe to incredibly heavy linework meet to make impactful pieces of art within a larger sequential work. Berserk still has some of the most memorable panels/"splash pages" in manga history to me because Miura's linework, framing, and mastery of heavy contrast was so inarguably dramatic and prone to setting incredible tones.
5) Tie between Kamome Shirahama and Yoshiro Togashi- Shirahama is in the same playing field as Inoue and Urasawa both in terms of absolute skill set of perfection and the clear influence of her work in western comics. But the charm of her personal work is in the very romantic and sweet tone set by the effortless and almost antique looking flow of her lines. Her mastery of borrowing from past art movements/styles and filtering them through her style to lend her fantasy world real depth and character is incredible.
Togashi's is another one where distinct style is charming and lends itself to being "old friend" like in the minds of readers. His more detail heavy pieces for title pages and important paneling, especially for YYH, Level E, and big battle scenes in HxH have such a beautiful and strangely airy thread like quality to them despite the heavy contrast in some. Its unfortunate that most of the focus on his work has been at chuckling at panels where he's doing his best with what he can manage because the level of detail he can go to is genuinely magnificent. His color choices, personally, are so bizzare at times to me lol but somehow they work!!! Also one of my favorite mangakas when it comes to character design like it's never a dull moment with Togashi lol

Happy birthday, Airi Eino (and her character, Airi Hayashida)!
Seeing Wake Up, Girls! perform live increased my appreciation for her a hundredfold. What an amazing dancer and engaging performer. I'm so happy to have experienced it at least once... twice lol.

if you’ve ever watched wake up girls, do you think masato & airi would get along? i personally think they would be great friends ^^
i’ve never watched wake up girls but i heard it’s a really good show!
i wanna be able to watch a lot of anime, and this one’s on my list :3
i don’t know how long it’ll take for me to get there though because i’m watching k-on at the moment and am just a lil halfway through season one and have season two (which is way longer) and the movie to finish it all off ;w;)
