Al-Ittihad offer Liverpool £40m offer for midfielder Fabinho
Fabinho has been left out of Liverpool's squad for a training camp in Germany following a £40m bid for him from Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad.
Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has also been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia but has travelled to Germany.
The Reds received the offer for Brazil midfielder Fabinho on Friday night.
A decision between the club and player was then taken to remove the 29-year-old from the 32-man touring party, which left on Saturday.
Fabinho has been at Liverpool since July 2018 after the Reds signed him from Monaco for a fee in the region of £39m.
He has since helped the club win the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup and Fifa Club World Cup.
There are reports Henderson is a target for Al-Ettifaq, who recently appointed former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard as their new manager.
Liverpool have not set an asking price for the 33-year-old but the £10m offer being speculated about falls well below the club's valuation for a player with two years left on his contract and who has been an integral part of their side.
The Reds have already been rebuilding their midfield following the departures of James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
They have signed Argentina international Alexis Mac Allister, 24, from Brighton and Hungary captain Dominik Szoboszlai, 22, from RB Leipzig and were looking at long term successor to Fabinho.
Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia, 19, was one of those under consideration but if they lose the experience of Fabinho, and possibly Henderson, it is expected to see the club shift their transfer strategy.
A number of potential targets are believed to be under consideration but Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo, who is expected to join Chelsea, is not one of them.

Liverpool will start their 2023/2024 Premier League season against Chelsea, led by Mauricio Pochettino.

This was a hard earned point against a superior team.
Leeds were second best right from the start of this game and kept giving the ball away throughout, in stark contrast to Brighton's crisp passing and movement. It was no surprise when the away team took the lead - a cross into the box from the right wing found its way to the far post where Kaoru Mitoma was waiting to head back across goal to Alex Mac Allister, who headed the ball past Illan Meslier.
Elland Road was unusually quiet until, out of nowhere, Patrick Bamford scored the equaliser.
Jack Harrison won the ball on the left, sprinted down the wing and squared the ball to Bamford, whose shot took a slight deflection off a Brighton defender, but sailed into the back of the net. We then got lucky as Mac Allister missed an easy chance just before half time.
Leeds were better after the break, but as usual we lacked quality in the final third. Brenden Aaronson and Luke Ayling had decent chances before Brighton's second goal, but then we shot ourselves in the foot when Mitoma crossed low into the box and after a series of deflections, Harrison accidentally put the ball into his own net....
Javi Gracia immediately made a triple change, with Willy Gnonto, Weston McKennie and Rodrigo replacing Bamford, Crysencio Summerville and Marc Roca.
Our second equaliser came after a reasonable spell of pressure from Leeds - a short corner from Gnonto found Harrison in the box, who stepped inside the defender and lashed it into the top corner with his right foot.
Brighton finished the game strongly and we had to ride our luck at times but managed to keep them out.
It was good to see some key players return from injury, and the way we kept battling until the end was encouraging.
However, the teams around us are doing better and we've slipped down to 19th place. Looking at our remaining fixtures I think we're favourites to go down....

Liverpool sign Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton for £35m
Liverpool have completed a £35m deal to sign midfielder Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton on a five-year contract.
The fee could rise to £55m for the Argentina playmaker, who helped Brighton finish sixth in the Premier League this season to qualify for Europe for the first time.
The 24-year-old scored 20 goals in 112 appearances for the Seagulls and helped Argentina win the 2022 World Cup.
"It's a dream come true and I can't wait," said Mac Allister.
"I wanted to be in the first day of pre-season, so it's good that everything is done. I'm looking forward to meeting my team-mates.
"It was a fantastic year for me - World Cup, what we achieved with Brighton - but now it's time to think about Liverpool and try to be a better player and a better human being every day."
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is looking to reinforce his midfield with James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all leaving Anfield this summer.
They were priced out of a move for Borussia Dortmund's England teenager Jude Bellingham, who looks set to join Real Madrid after the clubs agreed a 103m euro (£88.5m) fee.
Mac Allister joined Brighton from Argentinos Juniors in January 2019 and immediately went back to the Buenos Aires club on loan.
He has played 16 times for Argentina and emerged as a key player during their third World Cup triumph in December.
Having sat out their opening defeat by Saudi Arabia, he started the next six games and starred in the final against France.
"Since I won the World Cup, I said that I want to win more trophies and I think that this club will help me to do that," said Mac Allister.
"That's the aim and when you are in a big club like this one you have to win trophies. I can see how big this club is - the players we have, the staff, everyone. I'm really pleased and looking forward to playing for this club."
Mac Allister thanked Brighton on Instagram, writing: "It's time to say goodbye to the club that opened the doors for me and gave me such amazing moments.
"I never thought I was going to live what I have lived in these three and a half years, but this club gave me that opportunity and I'll be forever grateful.
"I don't have any doubts that this team is going to achieve many important things, because they have the football skills and human quality to do it.
"I'll always watch you and support you. Thanks a lot Seagulls, you will always have a special place in my heart!"
Liverpool have been renowned for pulling off some impressive deals and this looks like another one.
They have brought in a player who was key to helping Argentina win the World Cup and who has gone from strength to strength in the Premier League with Brighton - helping the south-coast club into the Europa League.
Mac Allister was Brighton's leading scorer in the top flight this season and his ability to play in all positions across midfield, along with his game intelligence, were big factors in the Reds moving for the player.
Liverpool are also starting what should be a summer rebuild of their midfield.
A number of players in that position are leaving and adding in a high-quality addition like Mac Allister will excite fans and bodes well for the future as the Reds look to bounce back from a disappointing season.
Julian Ward, who is leaving as the club's sporting director this summer and being replaced by Jorg Schmadtke, led on securing the deal for Mac Allister with the football operations team.
