if i had a nickel for every time i read a story by an independent writer that included a female main character whose name started with an A, had long hair tied by a headband ribbon, and was very heavily tied to themes of death and loss, i'd have two nickels. which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice

whatever happened to timothy laurence difficulties? i still remember showing it to my friends as some sort of a rickroll.
it's unlisted at the moment because, uh, long story with a bit of content warning to it
A few weeks ago a friend of mine from highschool committed suicide. We have a Facebook group going where people are sharing the memories they have of him, and since I had some videos on my YT taken in highschool that he was in, I shared them in that Facebook group. Most of my IRLs have no idea about my interest in the royal family and certainly have no clue about the whole wanting Anne and Tim to spit roast me thing, and given that there are as many people in that group with whom I ended senior year on an openly hostile note as there are folks I'm still friendly with I hardly want to give out free ammunition to anyone who still thinks of me as a weirdo. So I've taken everything on my YT private that wasn't already there senior year of highschool. When the activity dies down and I'm less concerned about people browsing their way to the rest of my channel via the videos of that friend, I will make the videos public again.
Anyway, here's the links if you want to save them.

(I never read the fiction I should. I never seem to have the time. Even movies feel like such a commitment when I should be writing or working. Nonetheless, I did watch a few TV shows.)
Things I Really Enjoyed This Year
Selfie
It’s a fucking crime a show with John Cho as Henry HIggins got cancelled. It had some problematic moments but the UST was amazing.
Wynonna Earp
The second season was a bit...disjointed? But it had me sobbing by the end. Plus hot wlw romance.
Letterkenny
Omg Letterkenny. Where to even begin with this show? The use of language alone is amazing.
The Tick
This is the second live action remake of the Tick since the cartoon, and it took a while to grow on me but it has a weird silly charm. It means well. And it has a band of broken losers, and you know I love a band of broken losers.
Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency
Sadly cancelled already, but I loved it. Soft weird sci fi. Not gay enough though. (Also, a band of broken losers)
The Penumbra Podcast
Jesus Christ. My heart. (loser/hero space detective. all the queer. one, maybe two, broken losers.)
Nailed It!
Ridiculous fluffy baking competition show that sort of makes me feel better about my terrible baking. Also--Wes? WHES?
Anne with an E
I have a lot of feelings about this show. They updated it for a modern audience but kept it all very ‘Anne’ and it’s great. (Bisexual Anne Shirley forever!)
(Schitt’s Creek. I started this one last year, technically. But it has not disappointed.)
The Good Place
The most hopeful show in these bullshit times. Please watch the Good Place.
Honorable Mention
Comrade Detective
Very random. But a show that somehow manages to make fun of Communist-era Eastern European movies and propaganda while simultaneously shitting on capitalism. I still don’t even get how it got made.
The last season of Grantchester
I got emotional, even if Sydney’s drama is so neverending.
The Haunting of Hill House
Kind of destroyed a lot of what was creepy/tragic about the book, and it messed up the final line. But the first few episodes were so greatly scary. (And Luuuuke. Carla Cugino or whatever her name is!)
The Punisher
Much sadder than I was expecting. More moving. Still violent though.
Voltron: TLD
For all my problems with this show, one thing it did really well was young humans doing dumb shit in space. It did that so well. I laughed.
Batman: The Animated Series (rewatch)
Still holds up. Classic. That is my Batman. (Only honorable mention because I have seen it before)
Worst
Castle Rock
I am still pissed about it. Fuck you, show.
I wish I had books to review but I only read a few romance books this year and I feel weird reviewing those. And nobody wants like, my review of an old biography of Colette or my thoughts on the Nero Wolfe stories I was rereading.:(

Thank you for the tag, @wssh-watson!!
Rules: Answer the 20 questions, and tag 20 amazing followers that you’d like to get to know better.
Name: Paige
Nicknames: Nothing much. My family throws around “Missy” and “Paiger” sometimes, but that’s about it.
Zodiac sign: Virgo (I have been told this fits . . . )
Height: 5′3″.
Orientation: Questioning. I’m almost certain I’m on the asexual spectrum, and am beginning to suspect that I may be a whole lot less straight and more bi than I once thought!
Ethnicity: American, with a variety of European roots.
Favourite Fruit: I'm pretty boring here—I tend to default to apples and bananas. Occasionally I’ll have a spurt of fondness for something else—particularly strawberries and nectarines.
Favourite Season: Here in California we don't have seasons, so . . . But I’d probably say winter or fall. In my corner of the world they might not provide much of an excuse to wear thick sweaters and turn on the fire, but I’ll take what I can get! Winter obviously colder; but I love fall decorations and smells.
Favourite Book Series: Oh, that’s an impossible one . . . I grew up on The Chronicles of Narnia and Lord of the Rings, so those hold a pretty special place for me, even though in retrospect I have some issues with them.
Favorite Flower: Is it bad that my immediate response is, “um, what kinds of flowers are there??” I have a sister named Violet, and violets are nice, so I’ll go with that!
Favorite Scent: Nothing specific; but I love the smells that come along with Fall.
Favorite Color: Purple and Green are the current contenders. It changes a lot, but in general I gravitate towards dark, deep shades.
Favorite Animal: Horses? Maybe?
Coffee, Tea, or Hot Cocoa: Probably Hot Cocoa.
Average Sleep Hours: Average? um . . . . Lately I’ve been tending to something around 1 or 2:00-9:00, on a good night.
Favorite Fictional Characters: Oh dear, this is even harder than the book series question! Let’s see . . . Sam Gamgee, Anne Shirley, Jo March, Remus Lupin, The Doctor, Lila, and John Watson and Sherlock Holmes. (I’m gonna realize I forgot somebody essential later, aren’t I??)
Number of Blankets You Sleep With: Two/three
Dream Trip: I’ve had the opportunity for enough travel to know that I hate tourism trips (I feel spoiled saying that, but honestly—my mental health deteriorates in that setting). However, I studied abroad once and loved actually inhabiting a new country. So, I’m not sure where exactly, but I’d love spend a month or so somewhere not-Europe-or-America, as I feel a bit over-saturated with Western culture.
Blog Created: Between the airing of TLD and TFP . . . I actually started as a non-shipping blog a few days after T6T aired, but I quickly discovered TJLC and fell in love with the better story I saw through the brilliance of this community. So I deleted my original blog (I didn’t want to do a 180 on all the nice people who followed me because I was a non-shipping blog) and made this onejust in time for everything to explode when TFP aired. Nevertheless it’s been an amazing experience. Despite all the horror stories I’d heard about fandom (generally from people who had zero first-hand experience) I have loved being a small part of this.
Number of Followers: 71! I don’t know what ya’ll found worth following on my newbie blog, but you are seriously the best—thank you!!!
tagging @unicornglitternutellacookie, @a-reocurring-dream, @look-at-us-both, @theveryunnecessaryfeelings, @kimbiablue, @bijohnbi, @mama-orion, and anyone else who is interested! Seriously, if any of my followers want to answer my questions and tag me, I’d love to learn more about you :)

Happy Days of Mischief!!!
Tumblr media
oh no. the skykids graffiti'd my art. whatever shall I dooooo
[actual art below the cut]
Happy Hallow...een? ar? Happy Days of Mischief? Happy whatever-you-celebrate-in-this-time-vicinity.

TLD x Sky:CotL
day 31: mischief
warning! long post of cosmetic identification + inktober reflection ahead. might wanna leave if you'd prefer to avoid text walls~
Cosmetics....
Anne: Mischief Witch Hair, mask from the darkness plant [Season of Shattering], Mischief Withered Cape, Mischief Witch Jumper [but with folded-back pants instead of the shoes]
Fai: Mischief Witch Hat, her own hair, Doublefive Light Catcher Mask, Indifferent Alchemist Cape [but Fai-purple], cargo pants
Alex: Krill hair [but short], Cackling Cannoneer Mask, Ultimate Krill Cape, Polite Scholar pants
Phil: Elf Hair [but his own bangs], Chuckling Scout Mask, his own scarf, Mischief Web Cape [but blue], Mischief Witch Jumper with Ushering Stargazer pants
And so, Inktober comes to a close. I had a ton of fun doing the challenge, and I'm super happy to finish on time! I can't BELIEVE I've turned out 31 pieces in 31 days. It's almost unreal.
I've learned sooo much--how to properly use my pens, how they react to my white paint pen and vice versa, how much I need a new pen set... (*winces* my 005 is practically nibless it's sad)
... and how to use my phone's absolute unit of an image editor. You can hueshift and saturate specific colors!! so I can desaturate yellow/orange to get rid of lighting but keep actual color!!!
I'll put together a big masterpost with every inktober page of my sketchbook tomorrow :) hopefully I'll see some improvement haha. At the very least, I've gotten much more confident doing more complex pieces! Landscapes, people, and scenes, not just icons or symbols. The charms I did at the end were so easy.
I really wanna do more art, but I'm. not very creative, believe it or not. All of my work is derived—from a prompt, a game, a photo, whatever. I might do Inktober 52, or 30 days of Reborn? As much as I'd love to do Huevember, I don't have consistent access to either coloring materials or digital programs to do it as I'd like. Maybe I'll try inking real-world photos? Or going back and doing "missed" inktober prompts or lists...

honestly like this posing more than final but whatever. too late now

Sort of headcanon post ( don't reblog )
OKAY, but… does anyone else ever get REAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLY emotional when they think about how WILLIAM SHERLOCK SCOTT HOLMES is essentially held together by duct tape and sheer willpower? Like, when not working he is almost erratic at times because he needs the stimulus. We often seen him unshaven, unkempt, OFTEN NOT EVEN IN CLEAN CLOTHES. Just in his dressing gown. He has so many tics to his movement that could have sprung from a number of places. A likely one is from prolonged drug use. He tries smokes to get a replacement for the rush he gets from drugs. When he doesn’t smoke WE SEE HIM ABUSE NICOTINE PATCHES?? When on a case, he is more physically put together. On the surface, he is dressed, clean, shaven. More controlled over his actions because of stimulus. But he also doesn’t eat. He doesn’t sleep. He becomes fixated on things to the point of obsession. He attempts to be detached ( and we see that falter on a few occasions ). He acts more controlled, but is he really? No. He has given in to his addiction - the real one. To the point where he goes too far at times. Anything to figure it out. Now add in the fact that he has SEVERE CHILDHOOD TRAUMA that dictates many of his actions. He regularly goes into a regressive state ( seen by childishly reflecting with silly fights and quips ); he has repressed and rewritten most of his youth. I’M NOT EVEN GOING TO TOUCH ON THE IMPLICATIONS OF THE “You were always the adult” line. He suffers from Depression - never explicitly stated but SHOWN on the show. ( Irene Adler; Drug Abuse when John & Mary are married; S4). He talks way too familiarly about the subject and suicide to Faith/Eurus in TLD for it not to be personal. THIS IS ALSO IGNORING THE DEBATE ABOUT BEING ON THE AUTISTIC SPECTRUM ( not “unhealthy” but still a disorder categorically). He also has WAY TOO STRONG a Martyr complex to have it sprung from PURE DESIRE TO DO THE RIGHT THING. Like sometimes I look at him and just of that like from Parks and Rec where Ann says she needs to call child services to take Leslie away from herself. REPLACE LESLIE WITH SHERLOCK AND ANN WITH ME AND IT’S A RENACTMENT

How to write a will that won’t trigger a family feud
Creating an estate plan is a gift to the people you leave behind. By expressing your wishes, you’re trying to guide your loved ones at a difficult, emotional time.
All too often, though, well-meaning people do things destined to create discord, rancour and resentment among their heirs. What looks good on paper may play out disastrously in real life, says estate and trust attorney Marve Ann Alaimo, partner at Porter Wright Morris & Arthur in Naples, Florida.
“People want to think everybody will be nice and do right,” Alaimo says. “Human nature is not always that way.”
You can reduce the chances of family discord by doing these four things:
1.NAME THE RIGHT EXECUTOR
I regularly hear from people convinced their siblings are stealing from an estate. Just as common are executors who drag their heels or who ghost the family entirely, refusing to deal with the necessary paperwork or even respond to emails and calls.
People often name executors based on family hierarchy (the oldest child, the only male) or personal relationships (the spouse, the best friend), rather than considering the skills needed for the job, estate planning attorneys say. The person tasked with settling an estate should be responsible, organized and scrupulously ethical.
Estate planning attorney Jennifer Sawday, a partner at TLD Law in Long Beach, California, often recommends that clients consider appointing a corporate trustee or a professional fiduciary as their executor. Many banks have trust departments that provide trustees for larger estates, typically those worth over $500,000, while professional fiduciaries often serve smaller estates, she says.
2. INCLUDE PERSONAL PROPERTY
Some of the littlest things — a childhood toy, a holiday decoration, a piece of costume jewelry — can trigger the biggest family fights. Anything with sentimental or emotional attachments can stir up old rivalries and lead to lifelong rifts.
“‘It can be ‘Mom always wanted me to have that’ or ‘Mom always wanted you to have that, and it bugs the heck out of me,”‘ Alaimo says.
Alaimo recommends clients ask their kids what they want and make decisions now about who gets what. They should make a list, update it as needed and keep it with their wills or other estate documents. If people avoid this discussion because they’re afraid of conflict, they should imagine the battles to come when the parents are no longer around to mediate, she says.
As a final bid to keep the peace, or at least remind kids to value relationships over things, Alaimo suggests adding a clause to the will that directs the executor to sell any disputed item if the heirs can’t agree on who gets it.
3. DON’T TIE UP THE MONEY FOR TOO LONG
People can, and should, make sure their surviving spouses are adequately provided for. It’s also unwise to dump a large amount of money on someone too young to handle it. But estate provisions that tie money up for decades may also be a mistake.
For example, people with larger estates often create trusts that allow the children to inherit only after the surviving spouse dies. But if Dad’s new wife is closer to the kids’ age than his own, that could be a long, resentment-filled wait.
Another common estate provision is to dole inheritance out over several years, for example with a chunk at 21 and another at 25, with the balance paid out at 30. But some people use such provisions to drag the distribution out over decades or try to restrict what middle-age children do with the money.
“Children often find these provisions to be an indictment by the parents . and a statement that they do not trust them with their inheritance,” says Frank Moscardini Jr., a partner at Shimanovsky & Moscardini in Chicago and a LegalShield Advisory Council member attorney.
4. EXPLAIN ANY UNEQUAL BEQUESTS
Parents usually think they have good reasons for leaving one child more than others. Perhaps one child is not as financially successful, or was more attentive in the parents’ final years. But unequal bequests often feel unfair to those left behind, Moscardini says.
Parents who aren’t planning to make equal distributions should schedule a family meeting and explain their thinking to their kids, Alaimo says. Those discussions may not be comfortable, but hearing the explanations directly from the parents can help keep the kids from blaming one another later.
“If you’re not there to answer their questions about ‘why did you do it that way,’ people will make up their own answers,” Alaimo says.
