My one fear is that ST5 does go back in time and no one remembers, therefore Steve is still King Steve and loses the friendships he's made with the kids and Robin
#Like dont get me wrong I love King Steve type media BUT THE CHARACTER GROWTH WILL BE GONE#bad ending right there v bad ending#“Well at least he's alive” no. Shut up#I am that no fear one fear tshirt guy#Robin walks past and Steve gets a confused look like SOMETHING is off but he doesn't know what#Then proceeds to let his friends bully her??? I actually will riot#“But that means they can save Eddie and Barb” BRO BARB GOING rip Barb IS NANCY'S WHOLE ARC#SHE WOULD NEVER BE THE BADASS BITCH SHE IS IF BARB DIDNT GO rip Barb forever will be missed#LIKE YOU THINK LIL MISS STRAIGHT A NANCY WHEELER IS GONNA HAVE GUNS IN HER ROOM AND GO AGAINST THE GRAIN?#NAH SHE GONNA BRING HOMEMADE STUDY CARDS#I LOVE EDDIE JUST AS MUCH AS THE NEXT PERSON and I do think it was unnecessary to kill him off#Because they can say “oh its growth for Dustin's character” we've already seen a lot of growth for his character#It made no sense to do it and didn't further the plot and literally everyone seemed to forget 2 seconds later (ya other things were happeni#But like you mean to tell me no one but Dustin told Wayne????)#Duffers said we originally wanted to kill Steve off and regret we didn't so we're gonna create someone JUST to kill off#Like every death makes sense to the plot and to further the plot except his and yes I can go into detail BUT I WONT#BACK TO STEVE BABY#This is quite literally the worst thing for his character if they make him grow so much snd become loved#Just to put him back into asshole douchebag status (of course I would still let him get it rip to u but im different)#Like honestly that's worse then death for him and if Duffers are doing that???#Duffers its gonna be ON SIGHT#You will catch these hands#Steve Harrington#Stranger Things#Stranger Things s5#Stranger Things thoughts#King Steve Harrington#Hello I'm speaking here

Pt1 | Pt2 | this one is the last part!
After Steve has dropped Nancy off at her house – and Nancy has talked some courage into him – he drives to the uglier part of town, over Cornwallis and then into Forest Hills. He can only hope Eddie is home. If not, he'll try Jeff's house, and then Freak's or Gareth's. He had to promise Nancy he'll keep searching even if it has him ending up at Reefer Rick's boathouse again.
Luckily, no such search actions seem necessary when he gets to the trailer park: as soon as Steve opens his car door, he can hear loud music emerging from inside the Munsons' trailer. Even though it isn't exactly Eddie's usual taste, something tells Steve that Wayne definitely isn't the one who put this one on.
Should have known better than to cheat a friend And waste a chance that I've been given So I'm never gonna dance again The way I danced with you
He knocks on the door, but is not surprised when no one inside seems to hear him, so he pushes it open to let himself in instead.
He finds Eddie sprawled out on the floor in front of the old boombox. His eyes are closed, but even from Steve's place in the doorway he can see how swollen and red the skin underneath them is. His hair is spread out around his head on the floor like a dark halo, and his fingers are restlessly tapping on his own arm to the melody of the saxophone solo.
Steve finds himself frozen in the doorway, captivated by simply watching Eddie lying there in his own bubble while the music slowly fades out. Despite the sadness radiating off him, there's something weirdly beautiful about it, and Steve can't look away, can't move, can't make a sound.
Then, Eddie suddenly sits up; his index finger is already stretched out towards the rewind button when Steve clears his throat to make his presence known. Eddie whips his head towards him with a startled sound.
'Jesus Christ, what the hell?!' he yells out. 'How long have you been standing there? No, you know what, don't answer that, just get the hell out!'
'Eddie, I-'
'I don't wanna hear any of it, man! I thought – no, I'm not talking to you. Fuck you.' Steve knows it's supposed to sound angry, but Eddie's voice starts wobbling dangerously towards the end of his sentence.
'Eddie, please just hear me out,' Steve says, stepping further into the trailer. The end of Careless whisper has left a deafening silence in its wake. He half expects Eddie to cover his ears and start singing loudly, but he's only met with a teary-eyed death stare and crossed arms.
'I'm not seeing any girl, Dustin got it all wrong,' he starts to explain. 'I wanted to tell him who I was really seeing, but I couldn't - not without your permission - so I told him I was seeing someone. Meaning you. I haven't been seeing anyone ever since that first time we kissed. I didn't need to. I've only been thinking about you.' He pauses. It's scary, to let himself be vulnerable like this while Eddie is still looking at him like he despises him. But he takes a deep breath and pushes himself to say it all.
'I don't want to see anyone, boy or girl, ever again, as long as I can have you, Eddie. I promise. I've been falling for months, but I didn't wanna scare you off with any labels you might not want for us – but you're it for me, Eddie, one hundred percent. I never meant to hurt you like this. It's all a big misunderstanding; there's no one else for me.'
Eddie is still sitting on the floor, looking up at Steve with wide, teary eyes. Something in his face has slowly shifted while Steve was talking; the harsh lines around his mouth have turned softer and the betrayal in his eyes has made way for something Steve can only hope to be good.
'You wanted to tell Dustin about us?' is all Eddie says, his voice croaky.
Steve takes another step towards Eddie, then crouches down to the ground until he's sitting right next to him on the worn carpet.
'I mean, I know I don't wanna hide what I'm feeling for you. Especially not when people are thinking I'm going out with some girl when all I want is to be with you.' He reaches out to grab Eddie's hands in his own. 'So yeah, I think I wanna tell Dustin. And everyone else, basically. That is, if we're on the same page about what we are.'
Eddie frees one of his hands from Steve's grip to wipe it over his eyes. His palm is wet when his hand finds Steve's again.
'What about boyfriends?' he says, a hesitant smile creeping onto his face.
Steve squeezes his hands, unable to stop a matching smile of his own appearing. To hear that word falling from Eddie's mouth... He had expected it to feel good, of course, but he had never anticipated it to feel like this: like the whole world suddenly makes sense again.
'Yeah, I can do boyfriends,' he answers, his voice breathy with the multitude of emotions bubbling up inside of him. 'That sounds – sounds good. Great. Perfect.'
Eddie surges forward to catch him in a kiss that's a bit wetter than Steve is used to. Steve happily kisses him back, though, and he can barely suppress a shiver when one of Eddie's hands makes its way upwards over Steve's back and into the hair in his neck. There's a softness to his touch that easily drives Steve crazy with relief.
When they pull back, both of them are smiling dumbly and breathing heavily.
'I'm sorry I had so little trust in you,' Eddie tells him.
'That's okay, I understand,' Steve is quick to answer. 'As long as you leave listening to George Michael to me again from now on.'
Eddie makes a face, causing a big frown to appear between his eyebrows, along with all kinds of wrinkles around his nose.
'God, I can't believe you witnessed that and still wanted to be my boyfriend,' he says, adding an exaggerated shudder for extra dramatics.
Steve clenches his arms tighter around Eddie. 'You won't scare me off that easily,' he murmurs. 'It was kind of adorable.'
'It was pathetic.'
'Yeah, a little bit. But in an adorable way.'
Eddie rolls his eyes. 'You're an idiot, Steve Harrington,' he says. 'But... In an adorable way.'

It wasn't even a secret...
Eddie munson x reader
Summary: you and Eddie are married even have a new born. But thr younger hellfire members don't know?
Dustin Henderson walks into the munson trailer and hears loud music coming from Eddie's room. He approaches the room and through the crack of the door and sees a manicured hand grabbing at Eddie's bedside table only to see Eddie's not ringed hand grab it and pull it out of sight.
That's all he saw, but he got the point and left the trailer and sat in Eddie's van, which he never locked until he saw the lady exit.
But what Dustin didn't see was your wedding ring on top of Eddie's on the bedside table.
-
Months later Dustin was washing his hands in the munson bathroom when he threw the paper towel in the trash he saw a pregnancy test. It was positive. Dustin didn't mention it to Eddie or anyone thinking it was probably private.
What Dustin didn't see was how Eddie hugged you when the test came back positive as you both cried happy tears and kissed sweetly.
-
Months later Dustin and Mike approach the hellfire table and notice Eddie's not there. Weird they thought he wanted to graduate this year why would he be having time off.
"Where's Eddie?" Dustin asked setting his tray down. Gareth looks at Dustin and frowns. "What do you mean where's Eddie you know he isn't gonna be in for A few weeks." Gareth says confused.
Only then do Gareth, Doug and Jeff realise they genuinely do not know. They wasn't gonna be the ones to tell him so that's how they ended up at Eddie munson trailer skipping school.
Eddie was fast asleep an arm draped over you. He awoke suddenly to banging on the door cursing under his breath. He stands up and stretched kissing your head and peaking into the bassinet next to your side of the bed, only to see his week old daughter starring up at him with her wide brown eyes.
"Hey little lady." HE says picking her up making sure to support her head. He cradles her and heads to the door to let you sleep a bit longer. He walks into the kitchen and puts the kettle on to warm a bottle for his daughter haley. Then he walks to the front door expecting Wayne or someone.
Only to be met with a stunned Dustin and Mike. "Hello?" Eddie says confused. He let's them in as they stare at him in shock. "Whats going on guys?" Eddie asked slightly freaked out hy the look on the twos face.
"You have a baby?!" Dustin half yells.
"Dude shut the fuck up." Eddie says annoyed bouncing his daughter slightly so she doesn't cry from Dustins outburst.
"No I won't you have a baby and you didn't tell us what the fuck." Dustin half yells again.
Eddie looks between the boys with a look of confusion on his face. You walk out of your bedroom into the living room after hearing all the shouting.
"What's going on?" You ask crossing your arms over your chest. Both the teens and Eddie look at you. Your stood confused. Haley then cries and everyone looks at her.
Eddie walks over to you sliding her into your arms and she immediately stops crying as you bounce her and cradle her making soft shh noises. "Whose that's?" Mike askes Eddie's attention turning from you and haley to the two teens but you speak up. "His wife." You answer looking at the two boys
"You have a baby and a wife. How didn't we know that." Dustin says eyes wide.
"OK everyone stop, fuck me. Right. I thought you two knew but clearly you don't. This is my wife y/n who I've definitely told you about. The one I've been dating since I was like 15 and am now married to?" Eddie says waving his arms infant of you as you smile.
"OH we thought that was a cruel joke." Mike says scratching his head. Eddie looks at the boys in disbelief.
"Wow OK. This is y/n and my daughter haley who I'm gonna go with you also thought was a joke." Eddie says questionably getting nods from the boys.
"Y/n this is Dustin and Mike." Eddie says pointing at the boys rubbing his eyes.
"Hi nice to meet you?" You say still confused.
The boys says hello awkwardly.
"OK, now that's cleared up. Is that really why you came here." Eddie asks, slightly annoyed. The boys nod and explain that Gareth wouldn't tell them. You're starring at Eddie, who's clearly stressed and tired. Then, down to the little baby in your arms.
Eddie warms a baby bottle while the two teens talk to Eddie about the baby as you sit on the couch in the living room. He walks in handing you the warm bottle. "Can you feed her?" You ask quietly. But Eddie hears you.
"Yeh, yeh of course sweetheart." Eddie says sitting on the couch. You pass her to Eddie once he's sat along with her bottle kissing Eddie's cheek then haleys head before walking to your bedroom to get stuff for A shower.
"SO you like have a child." Dustin says watching Eddie feed his daughter the bottle.
"Yes and a wife." Eddie answers.
"And you've been married..." Mike says
"2 years been together for 5." Eddie says, setting the bottle by his feet, leaning back on the couch and laying the baby on his chest, gently patting her back.
"And the others knew." Dustin says as Eddie nods.
"How long are you off school?" Mike askes.
"I'm just going back to do my finals. I won't be there any other time." Eddie says as the tiny baby burps. The two nod.
Moments later you walk back in, wearing a pyjama vest and Eddie's sweats. Your stomach has shrunk since the birth of haley and it makes Eddie smile seeing you comfortable enough to wear the vest as when she was first born you wouldn't take off his hoodie.
Not that it mattered to Eddie he loved you every shape and form and you grew his baby in you. When you mentioned your insecurity to Eddie just before haley was born he comforted you and said, "either way your sexy no matter what n you've got me. If.. that helps? Probably not but you get my gist."
You sat next to Eddie and he handed you haley. "Common ill take you two home no point in going back to school." Eddie says. He too the teens to Dustin house and then came straight home.
He entered thr trailer and headed to your bedroom to see haley asleep on your shared bed and you sat up looking at her giving Eddie a smile when he entered the room. Eddie strips of everything but his boxers.
"Now give me a twirl." You says smiling at him from the bed.
He turns slowly as you clap quietly before laying on his side next to you. "SO those are two of your friends?" You say raising your brows and Eddie nods putting an arm over your waist.
Eddie looks at you then to his daughter and smiles. Taking your hand and kissing it. You lean down and kiss him on the lips.
"I love you." HE says as your foreheads touch.
"I love you too."
"I love you more."
"I love you most." You smirk kissing him again.
Yeah Eddie was a happy man. He may still be in school but he's got everything he wants Sat right on his bed. His beautiful wife and tiny daughter.
-
Months later he graduated walking off the stage hugging you nice and tight laying a sweet kiss on your lips. Wayne holding 3 month old haley who's arm where flapping for Eddie. He took her from Wayne kissing her nose as she open mouthed his cheek.
The stunned look on Jason's face to see Eddie munson holding a baby in one arm with his hair and his other arm around your waist as your hand was behind haleys head. Eddie smirked to himself kissing your head. Wayne shooting him a proud smile and nod. The others soon came running over. "Finally man thought you was gonna end up going to school with haley." Gareth says smirking at Eddie.
"Shut up Gareth." You says earning a laugh out of Eddie.
"Y/n I'm wounded." Gareth says shocked.
"You heard the lady shut up." Eddie says smirking.
Gareth rolls his eyes.
Everyone stands and talks. Eddie saying haley needs feeding so you guys have to go. In reality you had fed her before and Eddie just wanted to go home.
"I am so proud of you." You say kissing his cheek.
"Yeah? Do I get a special treat for how proud you are." Eddie smirks.
"Maybe... you'll see when haleys in bed." You say smirking at him running a hand through haleys curls.
Yeah Eddie was right. 86 was definitely his year.

Wayne liked to think he couldn’t be rattled, not since Eddie “died” and showed up on his doorstep being held up by Steve Harrington and Dustin Henderson looking like he hadn’t slept in a week and hadn’t showered for even longer.
But walking into his trailer to see Steve Harrington wrapped up in Eddie’s arms on his couch did startle him a bit.
It’s not like Steve was a stranger, not since he’d explained some of what happened to Eddie with certain looks that told him he wasn’t able to say more, please don’t ask, please accept what I’m telling you as the full truth and nothing but the truth. But he’d only been over when the kids were over, hanging back and watching them have fun with Eddie with a soft smile on his face.
Wayne noticed, he always noticed. But he didn’t really think much of it until now.
Steve was lying on top of Eddie, head on his chest and hand gripping his shirt like a lifeline. His face was relaxed, though, lips parted as he breathed shallowly. Eddie’s arms were wrapped around his back, hands not quite gripping, but clearly holding him tight.
It could be nothing.
It could just be that both of these boys had seen things that most wouldn’t understand and found solace in each other.
It could be that they didn’t mean to fall asleep like this.
It could be that they were exploring something together.
Wayne smiled to himself when Steve’s hand loosened, falling away from Eddie’s shirt. Eddie’s arms tightened briefly, his head turning so that his face buried more into Steve’s hair.
He walked towards his bedroom with the same fond smile on his face.
– – – – – –
It wasn’t the first time Wayne was woken up by the sound of loud music playing, but it was definitely the first time that it was the sound of Blondie blasting through the speakers of Eddie’s boombox.
His alarm clock said that it was almost ten in the morning, so he couldn’t be too mad. Six hours of sleep was more than he got for years, and from the sounds of it, Steve was still here and probably making them breakfast.
He’d done that a lot when Eddie was healing, unable to do much other than walk to the bathroom when he needed to and eat in his bed. Wayne was grateful for it, for Steve.
When he walked into the kitchen, he froze.
Eddie was sitting on the counter, Steve standing between his legs.
Kissing.
He considered turning around and pretending he hadn’t seen it, figured they’d both come to him when they were ready to acknowledge whatever they were.
But when he heard a quiet moan, he had to let them know he was there.
“Mornin’ boys.”
They jumped apart quickly, Steve turning towards the pan on the stove full of bacon with an obvious flush covering the back of his neck.
Eddie jumped off of the counter and tried to hide Steve’s discomfort.
“Hey. Sorry, we didn’t mean to wake you up,” Eddie started tugging on the ends of his hair, his nervous habit from childhood, even before his hair was this long.
“Music’s kinda loud. It’s okay though. Whatcha makin’?” He asked, pretending everything was normal, not pointing out that he’d just walked in on them making out in the kitchen.
“Bacon,” Steve’s shaking voice came from behind Eddie. “Fried eggs. Toast with peanut butter or jelly.”
“Sounds great,” Wayne said, walking to the coffee pot to grab a cup of coffee, smiling to himself when he realized that one of them had started a fresh pot not too long ago.
He snuck a glance at Steve, who looked like he was going to start crying any moment.
And that just didn’t sit right.
He didn’t want Steve to ever feel uncomfortable here, whether he was here as a friend to Eddie or more.
He set his mug back down without taking a sip and gently pushed Eddie aside to tug Steve into a hug.
Steve tensed in his arms for a moment, then relaxed, a shaky breath leaving him as Wayne rubbed his back.
“You’re allowed to be happy here, Steve. You don’t gotta tell me anything you don’t wanna, but you’re safe in this house. You and Ed both,” he said softly against the top of Steve’s head.
He was reminded of a similar discussion he’d had with Eddie when he was 14, when he’d been caught kissing an older boy when Wayne came home early from a shift at the plant. The boy ran, and Eddie had locked himself in his room for 15 minutes, furiously packing. When he opened the door to see Wayne leaning against the wall next to the door, unimpressed look on his face, he froze.
“Goin’ somewhere?” he’d asked him.
“You won’t want me to stay now, right?” Eddie had tried to sound confident, emotionless, but he was failing.
“Be a bit hypocritical of me to kick ya out for kissin’ a boy when I’ve got a boyfriend, wouldn’t it?”
Eddie unpacked, and they talked for a bit about Wayne’s boyfriend, Eddie being gay, and how he’d always be safe in Wayne’s house.
Steve had clearly never been given that kind of comfort, maybe hadn’t even had the chance to find that comfort in his own home. Wayne could give that to him.
“You don’t care that I’m, that we-” Steve started, almost immediately getting shushed by Wayne.
“Son, I’ve known Ed’s gay for years and if you think I wasn’t onto you the day you brought him to me half dead, I dunno what to tell ya.”
Eddie was standing to the side, watching quietly. Wayne didn’t need to see his face to know he was grateful.
“Sorry we kinda defiled the kitchen,” Steve finally said as he pulled away.
“Kissin’ ain’t defiling anything.”
Steve blushed again, wiped his eyes as he turned back to where the bacon was probably about to burn.
“No it’s not.”
Wayne paused as he thought about the phrasing of Steve’s response.
He looked over at Eddie, who was conveniently pouring his own cup of coffee. He didn’t even like coffee.
“My one and only rule is that you clean up after…whatever it is you’ve done to defile the shared space,” Wayne smirked. “I’d prefer it stays in the bedroom, though, kay?”
“Yes, sir,” Steve agreed, not making eye contact.
“Got it,” Eddie replied.
Any leftover awkwardness disappeared when Wayne tried to reach directly into the still sizzling pan to grab a piece of bacon, only to be swatted away by Steve.
“You’ll burn yourself!” Steve shook his head. “Now I see where Eddie gets it.”
“Hey!” Eddie protested. “I do not reach into still cooking pans! I wait until the food is on a plate before I burn myself!”
“My apologies. You’re just an idiot later,” Steve rolled his eyes, but the fondness in his tone gave away how much he cared about Eddie.
– – – – – –
Wayne started seeing Steve more often, usually wrapped in Eddie’s arms or holding his hand, or watching him play guitar.
He spent the night more often than not, and Wayne sometimes overheard his yelling when he had a nightmare.
Eddie explained to him that they’d gotten better, but he’d probably always have nights where the monsters made an appearance, and unfortunately, getting him out of the nightmare was pretty difficult.
If Wayne was awake already, he usually brought a cup of tea to Eddie’s room and gave them both a quick kiss on the head.
He also made them breakfast most mornings, liked cooking for them, experimenting with new recipes and finding interesting flavor combinations.
After a few months of this, Wayne suggested he look into culinary school.
“There’s a place in Indy, I know one of the chefs there. He’d probably be able to help ya get started,” Wayne said around a bite of his peach pancakes with vanilla syrup.
“I dunno if I can do much besides breakfast and desserts,” Steve shrugged, looking down at his plate. “Plus, Indy’s too far to be driving back and forth every day. I still have to work.”
“Not if you live there. And you could probably work at a restaurant in the evenings.”
Eddie watched them both, unreadable expression on his face.
“Maybe.”
“You know, there’s a few bars there that I could play at. A record shop that probably would hire me,” Eddie chipped in casually, taking a bite of his pancake.
“What?” Steve asked.
“Yeah. I mean, we’d need to find somewhere cheap, but we could swing it. I’ve got some money still from the government.”
“Yeah, but-”
Eddie’s fork clinked against his plate when he set it down.
“Stevie. Do you want to try?”
Wayne watched them watch each other, small smile forming as he started to understand their silent conversation.
“Only if it’s with you, baby,” Steve finally said.
“Then we’ll go this weekend to check it out.”
– – – – – – – –
Wayne got to watch them choose each other.
He watched them choose a life outside of Hawkins.
He watched them choose a future where they could have a happiness he could only dream of.
They came to visit often, and invited Wayne to their apartment almost as often.
They even brought him to one of their favorite bars, known for being a safe place for queer people, where he struck up a conversation with one of the bartenders, Larry.
And then he got to choose a life outside of Hawkins too.
One that led to more happiness than he could have pictured for himself.

It Takes a Muscle to Fall In Love - Part 3
Part 1 Part 2 Part 4 Part 5
“Dude, it was so epic. We spent all weekend at Mike’s. Eddie’s campaign was one for the ages. I wish we could do that every weekend.” Dustin trails behind Steve while he restocks the shelves with returns.
“I’m sure Ted Wheeler loved you being there all day.” Steve wasn’t completely listening but trying to capture enough to stay engaged.
When Dustin got on his D&D rants, Steve’s brain always wanted to go into shutdown mode, and it takes active effort to pay attention.
“Not just during the day, Steve. We all spent the night too. Even Eddie and Eddie never does that. Started Friday, and I only got home at 8 pm on Sunday. I’m telling you, EPIC!” Dustin bounces around and misses when Steve pauses, slamming their bodies together.
Steve hits his elbow on the nearby shelves and groans. “Damnit, dude.”
“Sorry, sorry, shit.” Dustin helps Steve into a standing position. “You ok?”
“Yeah, just watch where you’re going.” Steve straightens his vest. “What do you mean all weekend?”
“All weekend.” Dustin shrugs. “We played all night at Mike’s after school on Friday. Then had a sleepover and played all day Saturday. Slept over again, and the only reason we stopped when we did was ‘cause Eddie had to get home and have Sunday dinner with Wayne.”
Steve absorbs that timeline information and tries to figure out when Eddie would’ve had a date interspersed in there. He knows about Sunday dinner. It’s the only time Wayne and Eddie’s schedules line up, so definitely not a lie to get away for a date.
“Did Eddie leave at any time?”
“No? Like in the middle of the campaign?”
“Yeah, for an hour or two? Just at any time?” Steve can feel a prickle crawl up the back of his neck.
“No,” Dustin furrows his brow. “That would’ve been weird.”
“Ha, yeah, yeah, weird. For sure. But… uh, did he mention plans of his getting canceled or something? For this weekend?” Steve’s stomach twists at the implication he’s uncovering.
“No, he’d been building that campaign for weeks and on the Hellfire calendar just as long. We were forbidden to make plans on those days. He would’ve banned us for life. There’s no way he had plans.”
“Oh,” Steve’s stomach drops, and he suddenly needs to escape.
He shoulders around Dustin, slams the videos in his hands down on the counter, surprising Robin where she stands, and stomps toward the employee-only door in the back.
“Steve?” Robin’s voice floats through the door before it shuts behind him.
He paces in the tiny cramped space trying to parce his thoughts together.
He feels so stupid.
Eddie hated it so much that he lied.
His blood boils as frustration seeps through his veins. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. As the back door creeps open, he kicks a nearby folding chair, sending it toppling against the locker-lined back wall.
“Fuck.” He covers his face and huffs in anger.
“Steve?” Robin’s voice is soft and cautious.
“He lied, Rob.” Steve tosses his hands to his sides and stumbles back, leaning against the wall.
“Who?” She props the door open to listen for any customers and slides up to Steve’s side.
Steve nervously glances at the open doorway while chewing on his bottom lip.
“I kicked Dustin out. What happened? I thought you two were talking about his D&D thing this weekend.” She nudges his shoulder with her own.
“Eddie,” his voice wobbles. “He-he lied to me. He told me he had this…thing this weekend. But he didn’t. Why would he do that?” He wraps his arms around himself, trying to ignore the burning in his chest.
“What thing? That doesn’t seem like him.”
“I know, um…just this thing.” He pushes himself away from the wall and starts pacing again. “I thought we were…I don’t understand why he would lie. I mean, he coulda talked to me. Told me he wasn’t interested. But instead, making up this whole thing as if I couldn’t figure it out. Shit.”
“Dingus, I’m gonna need a bit more context here to give valuable advice.” Robin’s eyes follow Steve back and forth.
“No, you know what? It doesn’t matter. Screw it.” He shakes his head and hears the tinkle of the front door. “Perfect, a distraction.”
Steve plasters his fake customer service smile on his face and strides through the back door when his eyes take in the customer.
“Stevie!” Eddie throws his arms up and smiles wide.
“Get out.” Steve keeps his voice calm even though his fingers are itching to grab the man by the shirt collar and scream at him for an explanation.
“What?” Eddie’s smile slips from his face.
“Eddie, maybe the two of you should talk later.” Robin appears behind Steve.
“I don’t understand.” Eddie looks between the pair anxiously.
“I don’t want to see you right now.” Steve’s entire body is shaking.
“W-what?”
“Don’t you have a…date to get to?”
Eddie’s eyes widen. He glances at Robin, seeing a look of confusion strewn across her face, and then he reflects back at Steve. If Steve weren’t so honed in on Eddie’s movements, he would’ve missed the exact moment Eddie felt the weight of his lie crumble down on him.
Eddie nods nervously and backs away. “I didn’t-“
Steve shakes his head, his jaw clenched tightly, trying to bite back his anger.
The bell above the front door cuts through all three of them when a mother and child enter the store, breaking the moment. Eddie bows around them and nods to Steve, glancing apologetically at Robin before heading outside.
Steve’s eyes track Eddie until his van has pulled out of the parking lot and driven away.

“Evening, sir.”
It’s the Harrington boy. Again.
“I told you, son, it’s Wayne,” he manages a smile, harder to do these days, like chipping it out of cement and dusting it off. But he gets it done.
Steve doesn’t have the Henderson boy with him today, that’s a first.
“Where’s the curly one?” He steps aside, letting Steve into the trailer door, more rickety than before. No money left to fix it after repairing the bulk of the earthquake damage.
“Dustin? He doesn’t wanna watch the game, and trust me, you don’t wanna listen to that kid complaining the whole time,” Steve walks by, sorta chuckling to himself, “I always miss the replay ‘cause he makes me change the channel to those D&D cartoons during the commercials, just like—”
He stops in front of the couch, looking over his shoulder at Wayne like he’s afraid he messed up somehow. Wayne noticed that look often from him, less and less, but still often. All that confidence he carries can drop on a dime, sorta reminded him of—
“Like Ed?”
“Yeah. Sorry.”
“S’alright. I don’t mind talking about him if you want,” Wayne manages another concrete smile, but he means it. Steve always waits for him to bring up Eddie first, like he doesn’t want to remind him if it ain’t on his mind, but Wayne likes to be reminded. It’s nice to feel like he’s not the only one missing him. “But the game was yesterday and y’know the cable’s out.”
“Yep, got it covered. I uh, I taped it,” Steve fishes a VHS tape from his back pocket. Fancy. Wayne would worry about him using that for his sake, but he has a feeling Steve’s folks aren’t around enough to notice.
“The Colts win?”
Steve flips the tape around, “Haven’t watched it, so we can bet on it if you’re feeling lucky.”
It doesn’t feel so dry and heavy when Wayne laughs a bit then, waving Steve to go ahead and start up the TV. He already caught the game on the radio, but he bets on the Colts anyway. Loser’s supposed to do the dishes after they scrounge together some soup, but Steve does them anyway.
Wayne would make a stink about it but he can tell Steve just wants to help, to feel like he’s helping. Same thing when the Henderson boy comes around to see him, wanting to hear all the stories, even the scary ones. So Wayne doesn’t mind letting Eddie’s friends feel like they’re helping him.
His nephew didn’t have many friends. Real, cover-your-six kinda friends. The boys he played his music with, they’ve come by a couple times, Wayne always liked Jeff despite the racket. That older fella that’s doing time now, Wayne wasn’t too fond of. And some of Eddie’s dungeon buddies he talked about were the only few.
Now, casual acquaintances? Anybody who didn’t have anywhere else to sit when he had an empty spot at his table? Sure, Eddie had those in spades.
His boy was good at that, putting on a good old show for his crowd, on a stage to keep his distance. That damn Al did him in good, never could trust easily, having his old man pop up and drag him into his mess before he took off again. And Eddie’s poor momma would’ve done right by him, if she hadn’t gotten sick so young.
Took Wayne a long time to get Eddie to depend on him, to trust this was his place to stay and he didn’t have to earn it, Wayne wasn’t just filling his head to scheme something out of him.
Love ain’t a transaction that way. He wasn’t ever any good at saying it, but he tried to show Eddie the best he could.
His boy though, always carried a debt with him. Like he owed Wayne something for taking him in, had to graduate quick and make it outta here, do something with the better life he gave him. Al dug him in so deep, Eddie stayed roped into whatever his latest scheme was (the cars, the dealing, the gambling, thank God Eddie wasn’t there when the goddamn robbery went wrong, 25 to life) like maybe it’d be enough to keep him from running off again.
The odds have never been in favor of people like them, poor folk in a town that’s stuck in its ways, where everybody’s just like their old man, but Al made his choices and Wayne made his. Rest their mother’s soul, she did her best. Part of Wayne was relieved when Al got locked up, at least Wayne had a better chance of keeping Eddie from going down the same path, try to raise him right.
Being a Munson wasn’t a crime. He didn’t owe a darn thing to anybody. Eddie could graduate at his own pace, play whatever games and music he wanted, dress however, that didn’t mean he was up to no good. And a lot of boys get into dealing for a little easy extra money around here, he was gonna grow out of that just like Wayne did.
It worked until all this mess.
That’s why Eddie ran off after what happened to the poor Cunningham girl. He gets spooked when something goes wrong, like it’ll be the last straw he can’t make up for so he runs off. Like the first time he didn’t make senior year, went and hid out with that Rick fella that Wayne never did like, got Eddie deep into that business he tried to keep a secret.
‘Course Wayne knew. He knows exactly what and where his boy hides. If those damn cops weren’t tailing him, he would’ve gone straight to get him.
That was before he knew it would turn into all of this. Now he wishes he would’ve done it anyway. Gone right to Eddie, told him it wasn’t his fault that everything got all turned upside down. Told him he knew he was innocent right from the get-go, and got him away from this rotten old town.
But he didn’t.
He didn’t go get his boy.
So now he’s just trying to be there for Eddie’s boys, since he can’t.
“You have a night shift tonight right? Gonna put on a pot of coffee,” Steve says once he’s finished up the dishes.
Wayne hums. There’s usually more noise going on during these visits. Steve’s still alright at carrying on, even without the Henderson boy’s chatter to fill any gaps.
It was strange, the first time the two of them showed up. Wayne knew Eddie was close with Dustin, but he didn’t have a clue that he was chumming it up with the Harrington boy. Just don’t seem like the same type of company. He might not believe it if it weren’t so obvious that Steve cared about his boy. He suspected before, but now with Steve showing up here alone, he knows.
Steve misses Eddie in a different sorta way than Dustin.
“No cream or sugar, right?” Steve looks humored by that as he passes the mug of black coffee to him, “How are you related to Eddie again?”
Wayne’s mouth turns upward, remembering his nephew’s god awful sweet tooth. He picked up a box of Honeycombs the other day in the store out of habit. “Just happened to be standin’ there when they beamed him down.”
That gets a good chuckle out of Steve. Nothing wistful weighing it down and Wayne’s glad, watching Steve pour himself a cup of coffee too.
Then bitter-sweetness swirls in his chest, seeing the mug that Steve chose for himself. Must’ve dug it out from one of the boxes Wayne hadn’t hung back on the walls yet. The earthquake did a number on his collection. That Garfield one was the only one he’d gotten around to gluing back together.
“What is it?” Steve asks, cup paused at his mouth.
“Ah nothin’ just,” Wayne waves it off, “That’s the mug Ed always used.”
“Oh, I can use a diff—”
“Nah, nah go ‘head. It’s fine.”
Unconvinced, Steve takes a wary sip.
Mostly these days, Wayne just feels like a watch without a ticker, a chest with nothing beating inside it. He can’t name the feeling he has at seeing Eddie’s old mug being used by someone else, but at least it’s something.
“Y’know, he used to put everything in that sucker. Soda pop, soup, cereal, you name it,” Wayne shakes his head, mouth twitching into a smile, “I’d have to wrestle it away from him just to give it a good washing. It’s well loved, alright. Leaks now.”
As if on cue, Steve has to grab a napkin to sit underneath it.
Wayne lets out an amused hum, “He uh— Didn’t have much stability ‘fore he came to live with me, so he’d get real attached to things like that.”
Carried around a stuffed dragon they picked up at a garage sale ‘til Wayne couldn’t sew the wings back on anymore. Never wanted to throw anything away. Got real anxious about Wayne going to work sometimes, even when he was too old for a sitter. Held onto him saying “Stay home just today, Dad, please.” Which, he didn’t mind Eddie calling him that. It always softened him up, made him give in. Wishes now that he’d told Eddie upfront. Maybe he never would’ve stopped.
“Thought for sure he’d marry that damn guitar one day.”
Steve nearly sputters his coffee, laughing at that, “Yeah, those two are made for each other.”
It’s nice, seeing the way that story lit Steve up. Sorta like his boy can still make someone happy. Hurts like hell that he ain’t here to do it himself, but Wayne was always good at telling stories. That’s where Eddie learned it from.
“I’m uh,” Steve deflates after a minute, looking down at the mug, “God, I’m just really sorry, Wayne.”
“Yeah. I’m sorry too, Steve,” he says, because, well.
Wayne gets the feeling that his boy was Steve’s boy too.

Porcelain Steve - Part 8
Part One🦇Part Two🦇Part Three🦇Part Four🦇Part Five🦇Part Six🦇Part Seven🦇Part Eight🦇Part Nine
Eddie hears the commotion in the living room, and it takes everything left in him to move away from the door. He just crawls himself forward and onto a pile of nearby clothes because he knows he'll be out of the way there when they open his door.
He knows he should open the door and go out there. Wayne's still out there, confused and concerned, and he needs to call Jeff. He can't just not show up. Yet he remains on the ground, cross-legged this time, face hidden in his hands.
Steve is broken. Because Eddie broke him.
He's been so afraid that something would happen to Steve if he wasn't around but given the track record of Eddie's life, he feels like such an idiot for not realizing the biggest threat to Steve and his safety is Eddie himself.
The commotion beyond his door gets louder, bursting open, and then Robin and Dustin are falling through it, stumbling over each other in their haste to get into Eddie's room. Wordlessly, Eddie points to where he abandoned Steve on the floor, knows that they're here for him.
He's a bit startled when the two finally untangle themselves and Dustin goes to Steve but Robin drops herself onto his dirty laundry, all but draping herself over him in a hug. His body moves on its own, wrapping around Robin and all but pulling her into his lap in a bear hug. He's not crying, too numb for that now, but he does shove his face into the side of her neck and let out a dry, sobbing noise as she coos softly.
"Shhhh. We're here. We've got Steve and we've got you," Robin's voice is wet. She's crying, too, silently but tears are definitely falling because one lands directly in his ear.
He feels detached from himself after that. He's aware of things going on around him but doesn't feel sentient. Robin pulls back from him slowly, she says something as she stands up but Eddie's too busy watching Dustin ever so gently pick up Steve's pinky finger and then Steve. He thinks the smile Dustin gives him is supposed to be reassuring but it's mostly just sad.
Eddie's head followed Dustin as he heads out the door and down the hall, at which point he starts to track Robin as she's coming back down the hall, dragging Wayne behind her.
"Can you stand up, Eddie?" she asks, and Eddie feels like he's watching himself shake his head no more than he feels like he's actually doing it.
"That's alright," Wayne says, as he pats one of Robin's shoulders before moving around her. "I'm not so old as to not be able to get down there. I still don't understand what's goin' on, Eddie, but I'm here."
Wayne joins him on the floor, sitting beside him so he can fling an arm around Eddie's shoulders and tuck him into his side. Robin flops down on his other side, once again draping herself across Eddie like a weighted blanket. It's all very grounding, and a little bit jarring, and that's probably what makes Eddie come back to himself sooner than he would have if he were alone in his room.
"You should be with Steve," is what Eddie decides on saying when words return, turning his head to look at Robin.
"Nah."
"He'd want you-"
"No, he wouldn't. I'm Steve's soulmate and I know him better than anyone else in the world. Which mean you don't get to tell me what Steve would want, because I know what Steve would want. And that's me, here, making sure you're okay first."
"What's happened with Steve?" Wayne asks, and Eddie stiffens. Robin starts rubbing soothing circles on his back.
"It's a long story, Mr. Munson. But I promise we'll fill you in once the crisis has passed."
"Is this related to whatever happened last year durin' the supposed earthquake that y'all can't talk about?"
"Well, I couldn't say either way, since we can't talk about it."
"Right. Get one o' the kids to tell me, then. Whatever they signed ain't legal anyhow."
Robin shoots Eddie a look, like she's trying to figure out if Eddie broke his NDA and told his uncle everything. He gives a quick shake of his head, and then Robin looks to Wayne. "I'm certain Dustin would be thrilled to fill you in, then. Now, Eddie, can you tell me what happened?"
He looks down the hall. He can see people crowded into the trailer's tiny living room but none of them look like any member of the Byers-Hopper household. "Uhh, yeah, but where's El?"
"They're in Indy, some family day thing. But don't worry, we went out to the Cerebro and were able to get El on the Walkie, so they're on the way back."
"You went- how long have I been just... sitting in here," Eddie is mostly talking to himself because it hasn't felt like enough time has passed for them to have made it to pick everyone up, get to Weathertop, communicate with El, and come here.
"Well, Nancy called me-" she cuts off, grabbing Eddie's arm and twisting it around so she can read the time on his watch, "-about an hour and a half ago. So, I guess you've been here that long."
Eddie untwists his arm, shaking her off. "You are being scarily calm right now, Queen of Catastrophizing."
"I already had an hour and a half to freak out. You think I need more?" Robin says as she stands up.
"I guess not," Eddie follows after her.
"Hey, help your old man up," Wayne grumbles, hand out for Eddie to grasp and help pull.
They go down the hall and now Eddie can see the full collective of people in his living room. Nancy, Mike, Lucas, Erica, Max, and Dustin, who is still holding Steve. It settles something inside Eddie, that the group he sees before him is the same one that fought tooth and nail to clear his name and keep him alive.
"So, we're all really sure that we can't just glue it back on?" Mike is asking when Eddie, Robin, and Wayne make it to the living room.
"We aren't sure about anything, Mike," Nancy replies, the frustration in her voice clear.
Everyone stops talking, though, as Wayne gives Eddie a thump on his back and wades through the crowd to get back to his chair. "Well, don't stop on my account. If I hear somethin', no I didn't."
That gets a snort of a laugh from Dustin.
Nancy looks like she wants to argue but doesn't. Instead, she wheels on Eddie, full journalism mode seemingly on, "what happened?"
Eddie swallows thickly before answering, "I dropped him. I-I pick him up and something pinched my palm. It surprised me, or something, and I just- I just let go. He landed on his left side before falling onto his back."
Nancy nods, brain processing much faster than Eddie right now, "And the crack appeared before or after you dropped him?"
He tries to remember, "I don't- I think so?"
"You think or you know?"
"I don't know."
"You don't know?"
"I don't know, Wheeler," Eddie says it more harshly than needed but he doesn't know! He doesn't remember because he didn't even look at Steve for longer than a second or two after Jeff saw him. "I've been having a mental breakdown kind of all day so no, I don't know! All I know is it's my fault because there wasn't a crack this morning, and now he's missing a finger-"
She's not even effected by his outburst, "Eddie! I'm not blaming you! I'm asking for the details because if you didn't do anything to cause the crack, then maybe that's just Steve, breaking the curse or something."
His anger drains from him almost as quickly as it built. "What?"
"I've been reading a lot, researching you know. About magical transformations. But there's not a lot of nonfiction on the subject. Ergo, I've been reading a lot of fairy tales."
"Which isn't really good for research-" Dustin starts, but Nancy just talks over him.
"My point is that, if you didn't do anything to cause the crack, maybe it just happened naturally. Supernaturally? Whatever, maybe it's a sign of whatever curse is on Steve is fading on it's own. That's why I wanted to know," she shifts from one foot to another now before adding, "I'm sorry about your day. I might have broached the subject differently had I known."
"No, you wouldn't have, but that's why I like you, Wheeler. You're a no-nonsense gal and I appreciate that," Eddie says.
Nancy gives him a small, almost shy, smile in return and the room falls into a silence that just this side of uncomfortable.
"Alright, Dustin, since the talkin' seems to be done, you wanna fill an old man in on what the hell's been goin' on around here for the last few years?" Wayne breaks the silence and Eddie barks out a laugh at the look on everyone's faces.
"Uhh, we don't-I don't know what you are talking about," is Dustin's eloquent answer.
Wayne nods and Eddie knows his uncle well enough to recognize the look on his face and in his eyes. Wayne switches tactics, then, and says, "You got any one older than twenty-five that knows what's happenin'?"
The group exchanges looks before Dustin says, "yes."
"Alright. They comin' here?"
"Yes."
"I can wait, then. Anyone hungry? Thirsty?" Wayne asks, and then without waiting for an answer, looks to Eddie and says, "Eddie, get to makin' some sandwiches. What kinda host are you?" Wayne is shaking his head like he can't believe Eddie's audacity.
Eddie sputters out some indignant response, even as he turns to round the corner cabinet to officially be in the kitchen. His first choice is peanut butter and jelly, but when he gets the peanut butter out, he can see there's probably enough for two sandwiches, three if it's a thin layer of peanut butter. Opening the fridge shows a sad amount of lunch meat; the cupboard has two tuna fish cans.
"Guess we're making several different sandwiches," Robin's voice so close to his back makes him jump, which earns a chorus of chuckles from the peanut gallery in the living room.
"Someone needs to get you a bell," Eddie mutters. "Get to work on the PB and J's. I'll get this tuna mixed."
They work in silence, making three different types of sandwiches. Wayne knew they didn't have enough of any one thing to make enough for everyone here, and the ones who will be showing up eventually, but he told Eddie to do it anyway. Asked, but didn't wait for an answer. Wayne's making busy work for him, he realizes. A distraction from what he's done. He's not sure if he should be thankful for that or not.
The only thing separating the kitchen from where everyone is seated in the living room is a counter and cupboards, so when the sandwiches are done, Eddie just shoved them across the counter. "Sandwiches are done."
It's not exactly a rush for the sandwiches on the other side of the counter but everyone does gather to grab one. There's not even an argument about wanting a specific one, except Max, who is offered all three kinds and when she says PB&J, Mike hands over the one he grabbed without hesitation. It's the most mature thing Eddie's seen him do, if only because every other time he does something mature he complains about it, which kind of ruins the 'mature' part.
It's about three minutes into eating that the trailer's front door bursts open and at first no one is there, like a gust of wind had blown it open, but then El comes barreling in and Hopper can be heard shouting something about knocking first.
"Where is he?" El demands.
"Here," Dustin is already holding Steve out to her. She doesn't even approach Dustin, just pulls Steve to her using her mind, grabbing him out of the air with one hand. She examines him quickly, finding the crack. She trails one of her fingers along the crack to where his pinky is missing. Dustin adds, "Do you want his finger, too?"
She shakes her head and turns to Eddie next, and he doesn't even feel the bandana leave his pocket, but he does watch it fly across the space between them. She moves over to sit in front of the TV, Steve in her lap as she's folding the bandana into a blindfold.
"TV," is her final demand as her eyes vanish behind cloth and she's trying off the bandana. Mike moves instantly to the TV, clicking it on to fill the room with static.
Wayne, to his credit, has only the tiniest hint of an eyebrow raised from watching things move about the room seemingly by nothing. El hadn't even stopped to consider someone not In The Know was here. Guess he's In The Know now.
Will, Jonathan, Argyle, Joyce, and Hopper have made it into the trailer, closing the door silently behind them. Hopper finds Wayne among the crowd of kids, eyes going wide, while Wayne just lifts his sandwich in a salute before taking a big bite out of it.
"Steve, I cannot hear you. I do not think you can hear me in your mind. Nod if you hear me now." El's voice breaks the tense silence that had fallen.
Of shit, what did Eddie do?
"Oh, good. Are you okay?" A pause. "He is nodding. Do you know what happened? He is shaking his head. Do you know why you are far away now? Shaking his head again. You can still hear. Can you still see? He is nodding. Steve, there is a crack on your arm-"
"His left arm," Mike interjectes.
"Yes, your left arm. Yes. You are missing a finger on that hand. Do you think that is what is causing the distance? He is shrugging. Do not worry, we will figure this out. I am going to go now."
El pulls off the bandana and uses it to wipe the blood from her nose before setting it on the living room floor. "I cannot get as close to him as I could before. He stays far away no matter how close I walk. But he is okay."
He's okay. Steve's okay. Fucking Christ, Eddie's going to throw up. A couple people call his name as he dashes down the hall. He crashes through the bathroom door and knows he doesn't have time to close it, so everyone gets to hear him lose his sandwich into the toilet bowl. On the third heave of his stomach, cool hands touch his head, gather his hair up and away from his face. He doesn't even have it in him to flinch or jump. "Thanks."
"I'd say anytime, dingbat, but I don't really want to hold your puke hair too many more times. You get, like, two more, tops," Robin says.
"I can't go back out there, Robin," he whispers, "I did this. I cracked him, broke his finger off and now El can't even hear him. I can't- he's gotta go with someone else. I can't-"
"I know. Dustin already asked if you'd be upset if Steve went home with him. I'll let him know you understand he needs to be around Steve right now."
"Why aren't you mad at me?"
"Dingbat. Eddie. You're mad enough at yourself for all of us," she says, reaching over and flushing the toilet. Eddie feels like there's more throwing up to do but he is glad to have the smell of vomit reduced with the flush. He sits up a bit more, so his hair won't fall into his face when Robin lets go. Robin lets go long enough to search the bathroom cabinets for a hair tie, pushing it into Eddie's hands. "Hair up."
"So demanding," Eddie mumbles even as he gathers his hair into the tie.
"Once you're done ralphing just go to bed. I'll get everyone out of your house."
Eddie nods and Robin leaves, clicking the door closed. He heaves a few more times before his body is done. On shaking legs, he makes his way to his room. He feels like he's floating above himself again. He doesn't know if everyone has left yet, or if he hears nothing because he's too out of it.
He tucks himself in and dozes. He wakes up three times; once, when his uncle comes in and puts the walkie near him on the bed, the second time in the evening when Robin wriggles into his bed and forces herself into his arms with a simple I usually hold Steve when I'm feeling bad, but I suppose you holding me will have to do and the final time, almost at midnight, when the walkie goes off.
"Anyone up?" says the disembodied voice of Dustin Henderson.
Eddie's not sure how the quiet voice woke him up, but it does. He reaches over Robin, who has starfished out of his arms in their sleep, to grab the walkie. He doesn't know if he should answer, so he holds out for someone else.
"Hello?" Dustin asks again.
No one answers. So, finally, Eddie does. "I'm here, Henderson. Bad dream?"
"I'm glad it's you, Eddie," Dustin says, something soft in his voice.
"Why?"
"'Cause I wanted to talk to you," says a new voice, a familiar voice.
"Steve?" Eddie whispers, even as his free hand is violently shaking Robin awake.
Robin mumbles something incoherent, head turning to Eddie as the voice on the walkie says, "Yeah, it's me."

Finding the truth

Hawkins was as bleak as always for October. The last time those boots had been kicking the pieces of gravel across the grocery store parking lot he was younger, packing up a van and tugging his girl into arms before they drove off to start their next big adventure. That was five years ago and his girl had been gone for three of them.
It had been a nasty fight, at the time that was all the two of you could do. Being on the road was hard. Lots of late nights at dive bars and pretty girls throwing themselves at him after every show. By the time Corroded Coffin started rising, you were done with the whole rockstar scene. You weren’t sure how many more of these nights you could take. It was a frigid December night in Chicago, Eddie was being a little too friendly with the girl hanging out backstage and it was the final straw. There was shouting and the ring he had proposed to you with the year you left Hawkins was flung across the green room in a fit of rage.  For weeks you had been dealing with mood swings on top of feeling nauseous for no reason. You had chalked it up to the stress of being on tour with the boys. It wasn’t until the car was parked outside your mother's house in Hawkins, mascara staining cheeks from hours of crying, that you realized what made you feel like that. The three little plastic sticks you rushed out to buy only confirmed your suspicions.
------
There had been a day when Eddie was in town to grab up some last-minute items he had left behind. It was late into the pregnancy, literally counting down single-digit weeks until you were due. You had found a job that allowed you to work from home, meaning you didn’t have to go out much. Still, the July humidity kept you housebound for the remainder of the trimester and you could only pray that no one told him about your current state. Dustin had called panicking late on that Wednesday night as you were putting the final touches on the nursery.
“Eddie wants to talk to you” you didn’t even get a chance to properly say hello. Dustin was trying to warn you that your cover would be blown. “He’s wanting to know why everyone in town is avoiding him like the plague-”
“Did you tell him?” anxiety crept into your voice as little kicks landed on your ribs. A ringless left hand rubbed over the spot your kid was wiggling in. They could tell you were nervous.
“No! I tried to act like I didn’t know what he was talking about but he told me he would just go to the source-”  there was a pause “I think he’s headed to your house”
It happened so fast. You stood up, going to shut the blinds and cut off the lamp when a gush of water left your lower region. You froze, inhaling sharply.
“Uh, Dustin I’m going to need you to find  Eddie and tell him some big lie. I think my water just broke.”
-----
Dustin had convinced Eddie of the lie, you told everyone he was cheating while on tour. That’s the reason everyone gave him dirty looks and mumbled behind his back when he went to places. It was enough to not make him want to find you. Instead, he packed up the rest of the stuff from the trailer and drove right out of Hawkins and past the hospital you were laboring in.
Shortly after leaving town, Eddie went on a world tour for two years but, he would call Wayne every Thursday before hopping on a plane and ask about everything.
“How’s the shit hole?”  “ s’good. Nothing changed since the last time” “How is she?” He would always ask about you, never being able to help himself. Wayne might have been the one to let it slip that you had returned to town that fateful night but he never gave away your secret. He would only reply with “She’s good,” and change the subject. Not once did he mention the curly-haired baby he would often visit before going to work.
-----
Three years of being out of the shit hole since that night and yet here he was, laced up boots marching across the parking lot mumbling about needing smokes. Earlier that morning he cruised in and was confronted with the same mumbles and stares as before. Everywhere he went people still tensed up at the sight of him, had he really broken your heart that bad? He pulled himself from his thoughts and paused, the sight of your mother situating something into the plastic grocery cart next to her car making him cock his head to the side. The wind carried her voice to him and it was softer than he remembered.
“We’re going to go get you a basket and maybe we can look at the costumes or gran can make you one baby,” His eyes widened as she pushed towards the door, a chunky little toddler sitting in the seat in front of her. They couldn’t be more than two, maybe three. The little tyke was babbling away about what they wanted to be for Halloween, some of it unintelligible but your mom just smiled and nodded.
She pushed back the copper curls on their forehead and sighed. The little one felt Eddie’s gaze on them and turned to look, brown eyes locking with the identical match across the lot. It caused them to smile and let out a little squeal. Eddie could feel the tears pricking, he was a fucking dad. There was no denying between the curls and eyes, the way the kid is so animated when talking, that it was his.
He had wanted to start a family for so long, dreamt of coming back here to you and grovel, get you back and settle down. He had no idea you had already started. There was a pang of something he couldn’t name growing in his gut. Jealousy? Rage? Sadness? Joy? It made him sick. The roller coaster just bottomed out and he was trying to stay steady.
The idea of smoking was long gone, he was backing up toward his car not breaking his eyes on the kid in the cart. There was only one place to go where he knew the answer would be given without much force.
-----
“You knew the whole fucking time?” He watched Dustin flinch at his words. On the drive over to the Henderson place, he decided his new emotion was rage. How dare you keep this secret from him? “You knew the whole time and not once did you stop and think ‘hey, maybe Eddie needs to know’ ?”
“I promised her I wouldn’t tell you,” Dustin wouldn’t make eye contact with him, the guilt eating at him. He didn’t want to keep Eddie out of the loop but between the lack of communication from the tours and the stories you sobbed out after returning home, Dustin just wanted to protect you. “Man, she was screwed up when she came back. She had finally started to become more like herself when you decided to roll back into town and...” he paused, unsure to spill the rest.
“what Henderson? And what?” Eddie pressed, growing impatient.
“And... the night I told you that she spread the rumor about you sleeping with all those girls she went into labor. It was her idea.” Dustin curled up, protecting his head waiting on a smack.
It never came, instead, Eddie leaned against the wall and slowly slid down until his backside felt the shag carpet underneath his jeans. His dark eyes focused on the rings on his hand, the Emerald you used to wear wrapped around his pinky. He remembered pulling up the house that night, lights off, and no cars in the driveway. Had he been a minute sooner he would have seen you waddle down the porch steps clutching your hospital bag while your mom ran over to start the car. Had he been there he could have been there to go to the hospital.
After a few beats of silence, he finally broke the spell, “So.. they’re three?”
“Yeah, she just turned it,” Eddie's eyes flicked up to meet Dustin’s gaze, tears threatening to spill.
“She? I have a daughter?” Dustin continued to nod, a shit-eating grin spreading across his face. The younger boy reached down under the bed and pulled out a shoebox, opening it up and handing Eddie the contents inside.
“Her name is Willow- I tried to talk her into Arwen but she wouldn’t budge. We call her Will though,” Eddie’s thumb and forefinger pinch the first photo, one of you and Willow cuddled up in a hospital bed the day after she was born. Eddie smiled, feeling a hot tear roll down his cheek at the sight. He flips to another photo in the stack, this one of you and baby Willow nose to nose. Her hands are covered in chunks of cake and frosting, both of them placed on your cheeks as the two of you grin at each other. Another photo is of Wayne and Willow, sitting on a hay bale at the pumpkin patch, both of them looking at something in the distance. “It’s crazy man, she’s like your little twin. She has your eyes, your attitude, the other day she threw this tantrum when I went to go babysit her- it was very Munson of her.”
Eddie chose to not say anything, instead pouring over the three years of photos Dustin had collected. The idea that the little fifteen-year-old he had left behind in the dumpster fire of a town would grow to be a protector of his kid warmed his heart. He had managed to capture almost every life moment on film- from crawling to walking and her first tooth there was a polaroid photo for it. He finally set down the hoard of images and looked up at the now grown man.
“I need to see them, can you help?”

being loved by eddie munson was a great honor. he treated yn like the princess she knew she had always been! yn didn’t exactly have a good track record when it came to dating. all the guys she’s ever been with had broken her heart.
she wanted—needed—someone different! for a little while she just stopped searching. she thought, ‘im still young!’ she had plenty of time to find someone to love her unconditionally. thats when she met eddie munson!
it had been her twentieth birthday. she invited many people to come and attend, not really caring who showed up. she just ended things with her boyfriend after finding out he cheated on her and all she wanted to do was crawl in a hole forever. her mother convinced her to keep her original plan and try and forget about john. she took her advice and faked smiled and laughed all night. yn tried to have a good time, ultimately she was just tired and wanted to go home. she managed to sneak out of the building her party was being held and got some fresh air. that’s where she saw eddie.
eddie was too old for this scene. he didn’t want to come to begin with, but dustin kept going on and on about how his girlfriend, suzie loved this yn girl and wanted to get her autograph for her birthday coming up. he didn’t want to go alone and knew steve wouldn’t be able to get in without some kind of connection. eddie agreed to take him, get the autograph, and get the fuck out of there. eddie ended up getting stuck there when people noticed him. it was a good thing he also got steve to come along! dustin got his autograph, and steve ended up taking the brat home while eddie signed a few autographs of his own.
now he was outside enjoying a cigarette, away from the noise and the few fans in the front of the building outside. when he spots yn, he gives her a small smile. she returns it, at least attempt to.
“not enjoying your party, sweetheart?”
she shakes her head and looks down.
“let me guess, heartbroken, huh?”
she turns to look at him surprised. “how’d you know?”
eddie chuckles “im an old man, i know the face of heartbreak when i see it.”
this time, for the first time of the night, she genuinely laughs.
“who’s ass are we kicking?”
yn snorts. “his name is john. first guy i said i love you to.” and first guy she’s ever had sex with. but eddie didn’t need to know that.
“mind telling me what happened there?”
she shrugs her shoulders as he pats a space for her to sit. she walks over to eddie and sits right beside him as he continues to smoke his cigarette.
“he cheated on me with the girl he told me not to worry about.”
“dickhead!”
she hums.
“i know im still young. i have my whole life ahead of me, you know? but i always wanted to have a family early on in life. get married, have kids, live a normal suburban lifestyle. it sounds crazy, i know—”
“i don’t think that’s crazy! you’re financially stable and from what i hear smart as shit and talented. i think as long as you got all the means to start a family, why wait?”
yn looks at him and smiles. “my mama and papa met each other when they were fifteen and got married when they turned eighteen. had five kids and stopped for awhile until they had me. they’ve been together ever since. their love is what i want. something pure and beautiful.”
“i feel that. i didn’t have that kind of life growing up! just had my uncle wayne. that old geezer kept his dating life private for awhile. i didn’t think the man dated. turns out he had been seeing this woman for about eight years before introducing me to her. even asked my permission to marry her. wanted my approval and everything. i told the old man it was about damn time!” eddie shakes his head at his uncle.
“he sounds like he really valued you.”
“he’s my dad! i value him just as much. took me in when i needed someone.”
yn didn’t understand, and neither did eddie, but the two opened up to each other all night. it felt great to talk to someone. they ended up exchanging numbers and texting from then on.
Tumblr media
a year goes by, they haven’t ran into each other anymore after that. yn invites him to her twenty-first birthday. when he turns up her heart skipped a beat. he was even more beautiful than she remembered. yn and eddie ended up sneaking off again and talking.
eddie couldn’t take his eyes off of her every time she spoke. something about this girl was mesmerizing to him. eddie wasn’t the type to date anyone younger than him, especially not over ten years! but this girl, she was fucking breathtaking. she was smart, beautiful, kind, just the most intelligent woman he’s ever known. yn noticed him staring and blushed.
“am i rambling too much? sometimes i don’t know when to shut up.” she states.
“naw, you’re perfect.”
yn gives him a smile. she loves how honest is. yn wasn’t the type to go after older men either. she stayed in her age range. eddie just does something to her she’s never felt before.
“i wanna kiss you, yn. may i kiss you?”
yn heart starts beating out of her chest. she couldn’t believe that he wanted to kiss her! she thought he just wanted to keep things platonic given the age gap. she slowly nods her head as he gently caresses her cheek and puts his lips against hers. the kiss was the most magical one either of them had. yn felt like her body was on fire. eddie felt like he was on cloud nine. they continued to kiss before eddie pulls away for air and rest his forehead against hers.
“may i take you out? next friday at eight if you’re not busy?”
yn thought about her schedule before humming in advance once she realized she was free. eddie kisses her once more before getting up. when he left the party was already dying down. yn got into her own car, leaving everyone else to continue to party. she had enjoyed herself already.
when friday night came she was a nervous wreck! she had a closet full of clothes and claimed to have nothing to wear. her sisters had come over and tried to help calm her down.
“why are you so jittery for? even in the past you’ve never felt this nervous for a date.” briella states.
“and when are you gonna tell us who this mystery guy is? even mom doesn’t know and you tell her everything!” kimberly adds as she looks through yn closet. she was the second youngest sibling, she most likely looking through to steal something of hers.
yn plops down on the bed as she sighs. “he’s—i don’t wanna jinx it but, he’s an amazing guy! cute and funny. he’s a musician as well. has his own band. we’ve been texting for about a year and i just—i don’t know but my heart putters whenever i get a text from him or when he calls me. god, he’s so sweet. just last night he sent me flowers! i never felt this way before. not even with john. it’s crazy, i know, but im already falling for him and i can see a future with him.”
all three of yn sisters look at one another and smirks. they’ve never seen her talk about anyone like that before.
“you’re totally smitten! wait until the boys hear about this.” jasmin smiles.
“do not tell seth or andy about this! they’ll never let me leave the house again.” yn groans at the thought of her brothers being over protective of her. she’s the baby after all! all her siblings had a soft spot for her due to their parents having her when they were a bit older.
“get up, come on! this outfit would look amazing on you. i think you should wear this. you’d look wonderful.” yn looks herself in the mirror and smiles.
“may you do my makeup bri?”
“you know i will! now let’s get you ready for this date before mom and dad come home and scare the poor kid to death.”
once yn was ready, her sisters kissed her goodbye before she waits patiently for eddie to come pick her up. she was home alone tonight. her parents out at some award show to promote her dads upcoming movie. when she heard the doorbell ring she got up, sighing before opening the door. eddie looked amazing. he was wearing a black metallica t-shirt, black jeans, a chain hanging on them, with his signature blue jean jacket.
yn had on a red dress that goes down to her knees. eddie thought she looked wonderful.
“you’re so beautiful.”
yn smiles. eddie hands her flowers. she takes them as she stands on the tip of her toes and kisses his cheek.
“you didn’t have to get me more.”
eddie shrugs. “i like giving the prettiest girl the prettiest flowers.” yn laughs. she gently closes the door as eddie takes her hand and leads her to his car.
“where are we headed?”
eddie smirks. “surprise, baby.”
hearing him call her baby made her heart flutter more than it already was. once they got to their destination yn was surprised to see that the place was empty. normally this particular restaurant was packed, filled with many celebrities or politicians. it was very hard to get a reservation. unless you’re eddie munson from corroded coffin.
“how’d you shut this place down?”
“i have my ways. come on.” eddie grabs her hand and walks into the restaurant. they greet eddie before eddie hears a familiar voice.
“hi, meathead!”
eddie rolls his eyes playfully. “hey, red! thanks for doing this by the way. i owe you one.”
“technically you owe me over ten grand, but since you’re basically my dad, ill give you a pass,” max states.
“max, this is yn. yn, this is max. i remember how you said loved max cooking and always wanted to meet her. thought, i know her, might as well take you to go see red!”
“i can’t believe you know max! hi, i love your food! my mom and dad buys from you almost every time we don’t feel like cooking. i even got all your cookbooks! im a huge fan!”
“thanks, means a lot! but i wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for meatball here. he encouraged me to pursue my dream of opening my own restaurant.”
yn looks at eddie for clarification and he smirks at her. “she’s the best damn cook from hawkins! even at the age on fourteen! she deserved to have her own restaurant.”
“now i have them all over the world thanks to mom and dad.” max states, referring to steve and eddie.
“what’s on the menu tonight red?!”
max goes to seat yn and eddie. she tells them about the dishes she’s been trying out for the last few weeks. the two try many dishes as they sipped wine and talked about everything. they got along so well and the food was amazing. once the night ended, eddie took her home, walked her to her front door, and kissed her goodnight. it was one of the best nights either of them had.
the two kept seeing each other. yn still keeping him a secret. she knew her family would freak out about the age difference. but she was falling head over heels for eddie and didn’t want anything or anyone to mess it up. she wanted to enjoy as much time as she could before spilling the beans to her family.
Tumblr media
after six months of late night talking and many many dates, things began getting more intimate between the two. they went from small little make out sessions to heavy petting. yn was ready for that step, she was completely ready for eddie to take it to the next level.
eddie was beyond ready! he was only just a man after all. and the woman that he was seeing was beautiful, inside and out. eddie wanted to worship her body until the sunrises. he just didn’t wanna rush her into anything. he now knew that she had only had one partner in her life, her ex boyfriend john.
eddie didn’t want to pressure her into having a sexual relationship. “baby?” eddie hums as yn grinds against him while they kiss one another heavily and passionately in his bedroom.
“hmm?”
“maybe we should stop?” eddie states as yn sighs and gets off of him. she pouts a little before getting out of bed.
eddie frowns as he watches her pace in his bedroom.
“do you not find me sexually appealing?”
eddie frowns. “what?”
“eddie, we’ve been seeing each other for half a year now and all we’ve ever done was make out. which is amazing! i love kissing you. but when things get a little bit more, intimate you push me away. so what is it? am i not attractive enough? is it the age gap? what’s going on?”
eddie stands and gently grabs her hands. “baby, no! god, no! i think you’re the sexiest woman ever. i just—i don’t wanna rush you into doing anything, you know? im not trynna be like your ex boyfriend and force you into a sexual relationship. i want my girl to feel good and loved and special like she is. i don’t wanna be a shitty ass boyfriend, is all.”
yn smiles.
eddie looks at her confused.
“what?”
“you called yourself my boyfriend.”
they never really discussed that. eddie was older than yn. he felt childish asking her to be his girlfriend. he just knew her as such and that’s that! he didn’t feel the need to ask. maybe he should have though considering her age.
“yeah, i just assumed—”
yn cuts him off by kissing him passionately. “okay, boyfriend! im glad you told me how you feel. thank you for being considerate of my emotions. but eddie, if i wasn’t ready i would have stopped you at any point. yes, john was an asshole who peer pressured me into sleeping with him when i wasn’t ready, but i know you’re not like that, eds! so please, for the sake of my sexual frustration, make love to me!”
eddie smirks. he begins kissing yn passionately. he gently lies her on the bed and kisses her neck. eddie was too goddamn old to be giving hickeys. but he wanted to mark his girl up, let the world know that she was his. yn moans softly. eddie smirks as he lifts up and takes his shirt off before grinding against his girl.
yn had only had one partner in her life. and normally john would get himself off and leave her a horny, frustrated mess! she had to get herself off each and every time.
with eddie, he made sure the women he’d been with came at least once before cumming himself. never leaving a woman unsatisfied.
“my poor baby’s been feeling neglected, huh? im sorry.” eddie whispers in her ear. he tugs on her shirt before she lifts up and he pulls it off and throws it across the room somewhere.
eddie starts to kiss her chest. she was still wearing a bra. he unclasp it before groaning. yn nipples already harden.
“fuck, you’re so fucking sexy baby. can’t wait to claim your body.”
yn didn’t know words could be such a turn on. she was basically soaked underneath her clothed pussy.
“please, eddie!”
eddie smirks as he takes her right nipple into his mouth while he plays with the left and visa versa. eddie unbuttons her jeans and gently yanks them off.
“no panties? wanted me that bad, huh?”
yn nods as eddie chuckles. he gets off the bed, pushing her body on the edge, and gently rubs his fingers between her cunt.
“fuck! already wet for me, huh? what does my pretty princess need, huh?”
“just—touch me eddie.” eddie could tell she was shy. but he wasn’t having it! he wanted her to be vocal, let him know what pleases her so he can make her cum over and over again.
“gotta tell me what you want baby, else i can’t help you.” eddie states cockily.
“want—please need your mouth.” she whispers. eddie barely heard what she said.
“my what, baby?”
“want your mouth, eds! please?!”
eddie blows against her cunt before he gently licks between her legs once. he smirks as she wines before he devours her, as if he was a starved man.
yn grabs ahold of his hair. eddie hums against her clit and she nearly cums right then and there. no one has ever eaten her out before. this was very new to her and she didn’t understand why she’d never asked before. it felt so fucking amazing.
maybe it was just eddie! she didn’t know but she felt like she was floating. eddie continued to eat her out. he could tell she was close by how tightly she started gripping his hair. when she finally came, eddie smirks as he lifts himself up and kisses her passionately.
“you okay, baby? need a break?”
she shakes her head before grabbing him and kissing him once more. “please, fuck me?!”
eddie groans. he felt like a teenager again with the way he rushed to rid his pants and boxers. yn looks down and smirks. eddie was a good size. he was very thick and long! she was almost scared.
“see something you like, baby?”
yn hums. “want you inside me already, eds!”
“anything for me girl.” eddie gently taps his cock against her clit. she hums before he slowly pushes inside of her. they both groan.
eddie was stretching her in ways she’d never been stretched before. eddie stills, letting his girlfriend adjust to his size before she taps him on the back and he begins fucking her deeply.
“holy, fuck! pussy feels so good baby. gripping me tightly, yeah?” he moans out.
yn hands roam eddie’s body. she felt like she could feel him in her guts, rearranging her insides. it felt like nothing she had ever felt before. “fuck, eds! please?”
“what do you want, huh? what does my pretty girl need, huh?”
“harder, please?” eddie grunts before giving his girl exactly what she needed. her pussy was gripping him tightly, so fucking tightly he could cum.
“shit! this pussy feels so good, baby! best ive ever had, swear!” eddie said honestly. this made yn moan even louder.
eddie kisses her passionately and sloppily. yn was so close she could feel it in the tip of her toes.
eddie rubs his fingers against her clit. “gonna cum for me baby? show me how fucking good im making you feel?”
“mhm! so close ed. please don’t stop.”
“trust me babe, won’t stop until you cum all over my cock, yeah?”
a few more thrust later yn came with a loud moan. eddie was close behind. “where you want it babe?”
“on the pill, need it inside, please?”
eddie grunts at that before spilling his seed inside of her. the two ride out their high before eddie collapsed against her.
“fuck! that was amazing, love.”
yn hums in agreement. eddie lifts up a little, gently grabs her face, and kisses her passionately.
“i love you, yn.”
it was the first time he uttered the words. yn heart began to beat uncontrollably. “i love you too, eddie.” the couple falls asleep cuddled up to one another.
Tumblr media
two months later yn had met eddies son. he was a four year old adorable little thing and she instantly fell in love with him.
her heart continued to break when eddie told her the story about his biological mom and why she wasn’t around.
“she chose parties, sex, and drugs over our kid. she died three years ago in a car accident. she was high and in the wrong lane. trucker hit her car and that was it.” every time she thought about it her heart broke for eddie and for little oliver.
yn realized that she should probably tell her family about eddie. especially because it was almost a year of their relationship and eddie had asked her to move in.
she was a nervous wreck whenever it was the day for them to meet. eddie was a bit nervous too. he hid it well though.
he loved yn and planned on spending the rest of his life with her. she meant everything to him. oliver had also grew to love her! he knew the age difference was a huge deal to most, but he wasn’t gonna let that break them.
“you sure you wanna meet my family? we could just run away. you, me, and ollie.” yn wraps her arms behind eddie’s neck.
eddie chuckles. “baby, we gotta do this some time. it’ll be fine! we’re a family now, yeah? the three of us will go in there as a family.”
yn sighs.
“please don’t be late, okay?”
eddie gently kisses her. “promise! ollie and i will be there eight sharp.”
“i love you eds! you and ollie.”
“we love you too. see you tonight.”
when the night came yn was pacing. she was very nervous. especially with her dad and brothers! she knew right away they wouldn’t approve. eddie was the same age as her brother, andy. yn knew this would end in a lot of questions and maybe even yelling.
yn just hoped her mom and sisters would keep the peace between everyone.
“why are you so nervous for us to meet him, baby! im sure he’ll be fantastic. and you know i won’t allow your dad or brothers grill him too much.”
yn gives her mom a small smile before she hears the doorbell ringing. she tries to rush and open the door first but seth beats her to it.
“may i help you?” seth asked.
“hi, im eddie. this is the right place yeah? the yln home?”
“eds!”
“yn!” oliver runs out of his dads grasp and into hers. yn picks him up and kisses his cheek gently.
“missed you.” he whispers into her shoulder.
“i missed you too ollie! why don’t you go ahead in that room right over there. left some toys for you to play with.”
oliver nods before walking into the direction yn pointed at. eddie walks over to her and kisses her cheek.
“hi, beautiful. missed you.”
she smiles as she stands on the tip of her toes and kisses him gently. completely forgetting her brother standing there. seth clears his throat before the two of them turned to look at him.
“dinners probably ready. we should go.” seth kept his thoughts to himself. not wanting to say anything just yet until the whole family was gathered together. yn ends up getting ollie as everyone gathered around the table for dinner.
it was an awkward silence. she could tell all eyes were on her and eddie. she didn’t exactly know what anyone was thinking. heart breaking in the process of the silence.
“how exactly old are you, eddie?”
“im thirty-five, sir.” eddie states as he clears his throat
“so, how’d someone your age meet our daughter?” yn father asked.
eddie clears his throat. “met on her twentieth birthday party.”
“and what exactly where you doing at a young lady’s birthday party?” seth glares at the older gentleman.
“his friends girlfriend is a fan. he wanted an autograph so eddie took him to the party. we met outside the venue and hit it off.” yn speaks for him.
“yn, are you outta your goddamn mind?!” out of everyone yn never suspected that jasmin would be the one to yell at her.
yn clears her throat.
“jas!” yn mother scolds.
“mom, she’s dating someone fourteen years older than her. you can’t seriously tell us that you’re okay with this?!”
“your sister is an adult! she can make adult decisions.”
andy scoffs. “she’s barely an adult mom! she’s only twenty one. he’s my age ma.”
“and? your sister is happy! she can make her own decisions. you all need to stop babying her. she can date whoever she wants.”
“i love your daughter and sister. i didn’t go out seeking for someone young. i fell in love with her because she’s smart, beautiful, and talented! she treats my son like her own and for that, she has my whole entire heart. none of you have to like me or be okay with us, but it won’t stop me from one day getting on one knee and asking her to spend the rest of our lives together. she’s my everything. she’s a sunflower in my eyes! a ray of sunshine. im not asking for your approval. im just telling you how it is. we’re a family and i hope that you all will be apart of that family. if not, so be it.” eddie states. yn grabs his hand under the table as she sheds a tear.
“i love you, eds.”
“i like him! moms right. yn is an adult. she knows what she’s doing! if she’s happy so am i.” kimberly shrugs her shoulders.
yn father gets out of his seat and walks towards eddie. “i still don’t approve. i think you’re too old for our child! but anyone tough enough to say how he feels like in front of anyone’s child, i say is a man in love. just take care of my daughter!”
eddie nods his head. “with my whole heart.”
yn dad hums as he sits back down in his seat. dinner finished up with no one leaving in bruises. for yn, that’s a win!
“ill see you tomorrow, yeah?”
yn hums as she kisses eddie goodbye and kisses the top of olivers head. once they were gone yn turns. she had a huge smile on her face as she heads upstairs to her room.
“think he’s the one?” yn mother asked her husband as they watch their daughter leave.
“yeah, i recognize that smile from a mile away.” yn father states as he holds on to his wife. watching as another one of their babies slowly start to leave the nest.

“Wait…you did what?” “Told her I loved her man…and she looked fucking terrified like I just told her I killed someone or something.” “What? No way she looked like that…maybe she just wasn’t prepared for you to tell her.” “She’s the one who asked if I was in love with her or not.” “She asked? Jesus…that changes everything.” “No shit!” “If she asked that means she probably already knew the answer and she more than likely feels the same she just wanted to make sure you really loved her before she said anything embarrassing.” “That makes no fucking sense Henderson….she would’ve said something by now it’s been like a whole week!” “Dude I’m telling you she feels the same she just needs time…aren’t you seeing her tomorrow?” “Yeah she invited me to dinner..oh she says hi by the way….she was all worried there’s something wrong with you and that’s why you wanted me to meet you here.” “I’m fine I just figured you could use a drink…you’ve looked like dog shit the last few times I’ve come by the shop.” “Gee you’re just so damn nice Dustin really it’s a wonder you don’t have a lot of friends…” “enough bullshit…what are you gonna do about this? You clearly love her and if she doesn’t love you what’s gonna happen? I can’t pick sides…I refuse so you’ll just have to share custody of me.” “You’re so annoying…but I don’t know what’s going to happen…I guess I have to see how weird and awkward things are tomorrow and go from there.” “You two have been bestfriends for too long to just all of a sudden go your separate ways.” “I know..but if it’s what’s for the best then I’m prepared to do it…I know she won’t.” “What do you mean she won’t?” “If it’s too hard to be friends there’s no way in hell she’d ever say it…she’d go on being miserable because she doesn’t want to hurt me so…it’ll be me that has to end the friendship.” “Damn…that’s fucked…I’m sure it won’t come to that…I’m telling you she loves you too.” “Do you know something I don’t? Have you talked to her?” “I haven’t talked to her about that…but things happen for a reason dude okay? It didn’t work with Steve because it’s supposed to work with you…now you just have to make sure you don’t fuck it up whenever it happens.” “If it happens you mean…” “no jackass I mean when…” “you sound like Wayne…” “I’ll take that as a complement…now another round or are you trying to stay sober enough so you don’t drink dial her and embarrass yourself?” “Sure you little shit I’ll have another…just don’t let me call her if I get too hammered…okay?” “Deal.”

Be Your Alibi
This was supposed to be a small thing, it ended up not being small. My bad. Btw, the narrative is all over the place sorry about that. Couldn’t stick to one person this time around. Special shout out to @mentallyundone for all help with parts of this means a lot!! 🩷 (this definitely should’ve been like a three parter, also no read more because the app doesn’t have it and it deletes my stuff when I do use it)
ENJOY~~
The whole group is in the hospital, half of them needing to be looked at and the other half not quite threatening anyone but definitely trigger ready. It’s not long until the police come in, immediately handcuffing Eddie to his bed and having someone stand there to stop anyone from entering. Nancy manages to convince Dustin that he’ll be fine, they’ll figure out how to get the handcuffs off and keep him out of jail, but for now the handcuffs and police officer stays.
“What else could we tell them to let him go?” Dustin demands. It’s been officially two weeks since they defeated Vecna/Henry/One and Hawkins is slowly putting things back together. The Party is all together again and the actual adults are back with a very alive Hopper. The only ones not with them is Max, who’s still in an induced coma, Lucas is with her and Eddie, he’s still in the hospital with a hand in handcuffs but overall recovering and most likely annoying the hospital staff (and the police guard).
“Powell told me that unless he has a solid alibi that isn’t a kid, there’s nothing until Owens releases the cover story” Hopper explains, a glare directed at Dustin who had his mouth open again, “no, your little club doesn’t work either. Half of it is kids under eighteen.”
Dustin huffs and crosses his arms, “well! What else could work?”
Standing next to him is Steve, who bites his lip as he thinks to himself. It’s not the plan, it could end up horribly for him and Eddie, but they do have enough information on each other and all their past dates to be a very reliable alibi. He’s also not a child, turning twenty very soon actually and Wayne could back him up. It could, technically work.
Looking around at the lost and frustrated faces, it makes up his mind. He pushes himself off the wall and clears his throat, getting the attention on him. “I can be his alibi”
It’s uncomfortably silent now, he feels his skin crawl as everyone in the room stares at him. Nearly all of them look doubtful, Dustin’s snorting like it’s a joke, “oh yeah? And what were you doing? You don’t even like Eddie”
Steve blinks at him and holds back a laugh, because him not liking Eddie? Not possible. If anything, he likes Eddie too much. Way too much actually. Wayne told him once that he and Eddie can be insufferable actually. Not that anyone in this room knows that.
“I can be his alibi,” he repeats louder, ignoring Dustin completely and staring straight at Hopper, “He had hellfire and I went to the basketball game, but he came home with me. We had pizza from DomiNick’s, I have leftovers and we watched Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. We didn’t finish it, got too caught up into each other.” He glances away, face flushed as he thinks of their last date night, “We took a shower then crashed in my room”
No one says anything, all just staring at him and he’s even more uncomfortable. If Eddie was next to him, he’d make some sort of joke to get the attention off him. But he’s not here and Steve just wants someone, anyone to say that the alibi will work.
“Are you, are you really suggesting that you and Eddie were hanging out?”
He shakes his head, “We weren’t just hanging out, we were on a date. If you want more, proof or someone to back me up, we can ask Wayne. Eddie’s uncle, he’ll back me up”
Hopper shakes his head, rubbing a hand down his face before looking back at him. “Harrington, you do understand what you’re saying, correct? You’re willing to say you’re dating another guy.”
“You don’t even know if Eddie will be willing to do that!” Dustin nearly shouts out, “you think someone will believe that? The story has a lot of details and you’re saying that you like men, but there’s no way anyone would believe that!”
Steve crosses his arms, determined and annoyed that they don’t know how much thought he’s actually put into this. How he knows Eddie will eventually agree and repeat the story with even more details, like how they decided making out on the couch was more fun than watching Luke Skywalker try to get Darth Vader away from the dark side or that they ended up in the shower together before falling asleep in bed wrapped around each other. “I know what I’m saying Hop. I’m completely fine with admitting it now, and Eddie will be fine with it”
Hopper nods and grabs his shoulder to pull himself up, “come on then, let’s go now while you have that story fresh. We’ll talk it over with Munson, you sure about his uncle?”
“yeah Wayne will be fine with it” he nods and looks back at his friends, all of them staring at him with varying looks of disbelief and confusion, no disgust or anger. Well, Mike looks annoyed and maybe there might be disgust. Honestly, that just might be Mike’s default for Steve. Hopefully there isn’t disgust or anger later on when it comes to light how true his ‘story’ is. He doesn’t think that matters right now though, “Eddie won’t need us to get the story straight- um, that really did happen. Just not that day” He finally admits once he and Hopper are outside and getting into his car.
Hopper’s in the passenger seat, he still looks exhausted over what had happened. The man didn’t even bother with demanding he drove, “The hell you mean?”
He grips the wheel, pulls out of the driveway and takes a deep breath before admitting, “I’m actually dating Eddie. We’ve been together before Starcourt was burned down, he kept bugging me at Scoops. Didn’t think anything of it until his friend Jeff explained to me that Eddie was actually flirting with me, told me to either tell Eddie I don’t like guys or to give him a chance.” He glanced over out of the corner of his eye to see Hopper rubbing a hand up and down his face, “That was nearly nine months ago, I’m practically living with him and his uncle”
The drive is even more silent after, Hopper’s mumbling something and Steve can’t hear him. But he’s at least not cursing him for dating another guy, so it’s not all terrible. They make it to the hospital in no time, parking close enough to the front for Hopper. Steve spotted Wayne’s truck while parking, thankfully they wouldn’t have to make multiple stops.
“So, you, uh you’re gay then?” Hopper’s gruff voice cuts into Steve’s thoughts, “That’s what you’re saying?”
He shakes his head, not answering him yet. Flashing a smile at the receptionist “Here to see Munson, please”
It’s only once they’re in the elevator and alone that he answers, “I’m not gay- I still like girls. I just, just like Eddie too. I think he called it bisexual?” Shaking his head he looked back at Hopper, “doesn’t matter right now. Wayne knows, it’s hard to keep things from him, he probably already knows all of what really happened, Eddie doesn’t keep many secrets from him”
He shakes his head and smiles, thinking it’ll be nice to have another actual adult around that knows what hell they’ve been through. Hopper doesn’t bother saying anything else and Steve’s a little thankful for it. This was a lot even if he offered it, once he’s outside of Eddie’s room he ignores the police officer in favor of just opening the door (also ignoring the “hey!” From said officer) and walking inside with Hopper following him.
“Stevie-baby!”
He doesn’t bother hiding how hearing Eddie’s voice makes the tension go away, he’s smiling and there’s Eddie sitting up in bed with his yellow sweater pulled over the hospital gown, a notebook sitting in his lap. Wayne’s sitting down in the chair next to him.
“Hey Eds” he moves closer and sits next to him on the bed, “Got some bad news and uh, good news I guess?”
Eddie squints his eyes at him before glancing at Hopper, his body goes a little stiff and Steve notices Wayne sit up straighter in his chair. “bad news?”
Steve reaches for his free hand and squeezes, “You’re stuck with handcuffs still since the police want a solid alibi. Since the cover story still isn’t out yet”
Eddie closes his eyes and takes a deep breath, trying not to get too upset. “And the good news? Is it good or just, not bad?”
“Well, it’s news?” Steve doesn’t know how exactly to describe the fact that he’s willing to out himself and Eddie and their whole relationship, it’s a lot, something he didn’t think they would need to do at all. At least not of people not in their inner circle, “I…offered to be your alibi. That we were together when everything happened, pizza with Star Wars. My house, and uh,” he glances up at Wayne, “Also said Wayne could also back us. That he knows about us”
The room isn’t quiet, the beeping from the medical equipment is still going and there’s the bit of noise from outside but everyone in the room is quiet. Eddie’s eyes are wide and Wayne looks concerned, and Steve is gripping Eddie’s hand like a lifeline still. Hopper has moved enough to lean against the sink and he hasn’t spoken yet, he doesn’t have a reaction.
“Stevie, you- are you sure?”
He nods and moves to sit on the bed, facing Eddie, “Yeah, Eds. I’m not, like excited but there’s nothing else anyone could come up with. They don’t want to take the kids words and everyone else in town believes Hellfire is a cult. We know each other, been together so often and Wayne has seen us, the boys too. We have a number of dates behind us that we wouldn’t need to study a fake story”
“But, baby- I can’t ask you to put yourself out there like that, I don’t want you to-“
Steve shakes his head and ignores the eyes on him and Eddie as he leans forward to rest his forehead against Eddie’s, “You don’t have to, I’m offering. I love you, honey. I don’t want you in jail, you’re innocent. I’ve thought about it, they’ll figure out why we didn’t come forward. Or we explain how dangerous it is for us, either way, I’m doing this for you”
Eddie’s eyes are watery, he nods and slumps against Steve.
It doesn’t surprise Wayne to see the boys like this or to hear those words of love either. He’s been hearing it for the last few months now, even before the official three words were said from his boys. Eddie is and always will be a sap and Wayne has found out that Steve is right there with him. He doesn’t make it obvious that he’s still on edge with the idea of them outing themselves to get the police off their backs. For now he looks over at Hopper, raising an eyebrow, “Ain’t you supposed be dead?”
Hopper shakes his head, rubbing a hand down the back of his head, “Didn’t stick. Harrington wasn’t lying?”
“He wasn’t, these two are lovesick fools. That should be enough right?” Wayne glances at the boys and finds Steve rocking Eddie slightly, he can barely catch him telling his nephew about what he missed, “need a straight answer, will this work?”
“Christ, it should. Powell’s good, reasonable. The whole- thing should work” He looks a little off center as he looks at the two on the bed before looking back at Wayne, “He said your nephew doesn’t keep secrets from you, what’d he say?”
Wayne crossed his arms, leaning back in his chair, “Apparently he’s been to hell and that Steve’s been dealin’ with it with y’all since eighty three. Things make a whole lot more sense now”
“Yeah, that sums it up” Hopper nods along before sighing, “I don’t want to say it because the last time, I ended up locked away in an Russian prison. But, this could be it. Hopefully we’re done”
~~
The plan is simple, bring physical proof and statements and Wayne to the police station. Steve’s got pictures, the boys statements along with Wayne and a determination to get his boyfriend out of handcuffs. Nothing was gonna stop him, even if Dustin still didn’t believe it would work.
Powell looks permanently tired and unamused, “Sit down, Mr. Harrington and Mr. Munson. What can I do for you?”
Steve sat up straight and placed his box on the desk, “I’m here to tell you, Eddie’s innocent and he wasn’t with Chrissy when she died, he was with me”
“Why was she at his trailer then?”
Steve made sure to keep his face natural, and not annoyed so quickly. “I’m not sure about that, maybe she broke in and thought he was there? We’ll never know but what I can tell you, Eddie was at my house with me when she died. We had pizza from DomiNick’s and watched a movie, then crashed in my bed.”
It’s quiet then, Steve and Wayne both on high alert waiting for Powell’s response. This is where it’ll be either a death sentence for both Eddie and Steve or a realization that there’s at least one more person in this small minded town that isn’t close-minded.
Powell sighs and runs a head down his head and just looks at Steve, then slumps just a bit, “Look, if you’re saying what I think you’re saying. I’m not going to do anything to you for even implying it for your friend. I don’t think you’ll want that to be your official statement to the public, correct?”
“Well, I mean, no. But Eddie really is innocent, there’s no way he did any of it.” Steve answers back and slumps in his seat, “Could- is there any way it doesn’t have to be released officially? Like- like-“ he’s grasping at straws trying to figure out something, anything to say.
“Look, kid. I’ll take your statement and visit Munson to see if it matches-“
“it will!”
He sighs, “I’m sure it will. Since the town decided to do a witch-hunt against him while I’m chief of police, and I don’t want another one happening. I’ll get take the cuffs off and start paper work to get him under a house arrest instead, then i’ll help you figure out a different way to stop a mob”
Wayne eyed him, crossing his arms, “you’re willing to help now?”
“Truthfully, I didn’t think your nephew did any of this. I only caught him selling once but besides that? His hands are technically clean. I saw what happened to all those victims, I don’t see how he would’ve done any of that by himself.” Powell explained and leaned forward looking between the two, “So, we’ll have your statement, take Mr. Munson’s and seal it. The town won’t hear the real one, I’ll give them something else entirely”
Steve nodded while his brain raced with thoughts. “So, you’re uh, okay with what I was saying?” He needs to know if his and Eddie’s secret is safe. Needs it said aloud and not just implied, before he can feel even remotely okay with what might be happening, it needs to be said.
“Harrington, I’m not sure what exactly you want from me right now. Just know that what you’re telling me will be between us and will stay sealed once this is all over, as long as I don’t catch either you or Munson doing anything illegal, all is fine with me.” Powell explained and pulled out a drawer, “Now, we’ll start that paperwork and then I’ll visit the hospital later, I assume both of you will be there?”
Paperwork doesn’t take long and before Steve can really process what just happened, he’s back instead the comfort of Wayne’s truck and they’re driving back to the hospital. It’s been two days since he told his friends and coming up with this fake alibi at least until Owens and the government comes in with their own cover-up. He’s hoping that happens before any official statement comes out from Powell.
~~
The excitement of Eddie being released under house arrest is dimmed just a little by them getting ambushed by their friends.
Steve is too busy being an overbearing boyfriend and watching Eddie’s every move as they walk into his house to notice the group in the living room. Eddie’s too busy whining about being fine, “Stevie, I’m fine. The doctors said to just take it easy. You don’t have to be this paranoid, just- gimme your hand” he quickly grabs Steve’s hand and stopped them from moving, “All I need right now is this, okay? Well, maybe a bed and you as my pillow-“
“Ew!”
Both of them don’t jump necessarily, they do flinch and Steve pulls Eddie closer to himself. That’s when they notice Dustin and the rest of them, Dustin’s the one they focus on since he’s the one who spoke up. He looks more annoyed than anything, there’s not a hint of anger or disgust.
The rest of the group looks curious, Steve can see Robin’s face and she looks happy and pissed off. He knows it’s because they’re soulmates and he never told her about his boyfriend. The other one that stands out to him is, Will. He’s wide eyed and look’s grateful for some reason.
Steve sighs and says, “Look, maybe we can talk about our relationship another day? Eddie just got out of the hospital and I just outed our relationship just to save him from being thrown in jail.” He doesn’t tell them that he’d also just like to be in bed with Eddie and know that he’s alive and safe with him.
There’s grumbles from most of the group, everyone walking out and the only ones left with them is Robin and Dustin. They’re not surprised, especially Steve. These two are stubborn. “We’ll leave after you explain why you never told us about you, thought we were best friends?”
“You are my best friends,” Steve starts off and flicks his gaze between both of them, before settling his eyes on just Robin, “We meant to, even when the relationship was still new and before the Russians appeared. But then the upside down was back and then school was back.”
“Eventually we just sorta, gave up trying to figure out a good time” Eddie took over, squeezing his hand before looking at the other two, “we still had plans to tell you. My friends, they’ve known since the beginning and Stevie wasn’t out to either of you so- plans happened but so did life”
Robin and Dustin are quiet and Steve doesn’t know what to do with that, “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you, really.”
“Dingus- you don’t have to say sorry” Robin says then pulls both of them in a hug, “I’m sorry for making you feel like you had to say that. I’m happy for you, really! Maybe a little annoyed you managed to get a boyfriend before I got girlfriend” she whispers the last part in his ear and he laughs and squeezes her, “I do want all the details of how you became a couple!”
She smacks a kiss to both of their cheeks before walking out and then it’s just them and Dustin.
“I’m- still so confused, but I guess I get it. I’m sorry for exploding on you, Steve.” Dustin admits, shaking his head, “Just, why would you hide even a friendship between the two of you from me? I’ve been trying to get you two to meet and you’ve known each other the whole time?”
Steve sighed and moved away from Eddie to pat Dustin’s shoulder before pulling his cap down, “Look, Eddie and I’ve known each other for years. We did go to school together- yes we didn’t run in the same circle- and it took me getting a lame job-“
“And a hot sailor outfit!”
He rolled his eyes and Dustin pulled a face, mumbling out “ew” before looking back at Steve, “anyway, it took a lot for us to even get together and then after, I just- I just wanted something for myself for a bit but his friends already knew then his uncle, so we did planned to tell you guys especially after you joined hellfire. But you have to know how scary it is for us”
It takes Dustin a second for it to process, because that’s one thing Steve knows about him. He’s a genius but sometimes things just don’t process the same way. Especially things like this.
Dustin nods, “yeah, yeah I’m sorry for getting upset again. So you were going to tell us- tell me?”
“Of course, dude. You’re our annoying little brother, would’ve told you guys. We did have a plan, the upside down ruined it” Steve grins and moved back to Eddie.
Eddie grins too but doesn’t move closer, instead he wraps his arms around Steve to lean his weight slightly against him, “now scram, I wanna cuddle my boyfriend.” That gets his desired reaction, Dustin scrunches his nose In annoyance and walks rolls his eyes before walking out the door. Leaving the couple alone officially.
Instead of moving, Steve turns Eddie around so they’re facing each other and leans his forehead against Eddie’s. Eyes closed, arms wrapped around each other. Only a simple kiss is enough for them right now, just enjoying being each others arms is enough. They’ll eventually go to Steve’s bedroom, undress to their boxers and climb into bed. Steve on his back and Eddie not necessarily curled into his side, since his bites are still healing and hurts, but still he gets his wish for his boyfriend-shaped pillow.
Tomorrow they’ll officially tell their friends about their relationship and explain what happened with Powell. For now, they’re just happy to sleep in the same bed with each other and not have to worry about the upside down or monsters. All that matters is them.
_______
Wellllllllll, I didn’t mean for this to get this long. Like, I was just wanting the alibi thing but with an actual secret relationship 🫣 I went a little outta hand and honestly I probably could’ve wrote out them telling their relationship to everyone but decided nah. Maybe I’ll write that out another time. Tagging those who made comments on my original post & those I talked to about this!

Eddie tries to suggest to Steve about moving in with him and Wayne, but Steve doesn't think he means it. Eddie decides to slowly start stealing his stuff and storing them away in his room. He starts with the clothes first because it was easier to deal with. He could easily just ask to borrow a sweater. It was going too slow for Eddie, so he decided to speed things up by taking the rest of Steve’s things while he was at working. He enlisted the kid's help in packing things out of Steve’s parents' house.
"I feel like there's a better way of doing this, Eddie," Dustin told him.
"Ah, you're just being a worrywort, Henderson. What could go wrong?" Eddie asked. "If it makes you feel any better, I'll leave a note."
After packing up the last of Steve’s things, Eddie hastily left a note. He hadn't noticed that the note had fallen to the floor and stuck to the bottom of his shoe. He drove out of there and unpacked Steve’s things into his house.
"Did you tell him, at least?" Wayne asked after he helped him unpack.
"I left him a note," Eddie scoffed.
"You mean the note that's stuck to the bottom of your shoe?" Wayne asked his nephew.
Eddie whipped his head down to look at his shoe and paled when he saw the note. He cursed and jumped into his van, peeling out of the driveway. When Eddie pulled up to the Harringtons, Hopper's vehicle was out front. Steve stood in the driveway, talking to Hopper and Joyce, panicking. Eddie ran over to him and skidded to a halt in front of Steve.
"Oh, thank God! Wait, how did you know I haven't called you yet?" Steve told his boyfriend. "Eds, all my stuff was stolen! Wait, wait. . .why are you handing me a note? . . . Jesus Christ, Eddie! I'm sorry, guys, my boyfriend's an idiot. He moved my stuff into his place."
"HEY! This idiot - huff - wants to - huff - live with you!" Eddie exclaimed, breathing heavily.
"Maybe if you communicated with him properly, then he wouldn't call you an idiot," Hopper sighed at him.
"Yeah, because you're the poster cop for proper communication," Joyce said sarcastically. "Guys, I'm glad things worked out. Eddie, dear, next time, ask."
"Then it wouldn't be a surprise, Joyce. Besides, I left a note, it just. . . decided to leave with me," Eddie replied.
"Congratulations, guys, and good luck," Joyce said in amusement and left with Hop.
"So, you really want to live with me, huh?" Steve asked with a raised eyebrow.
"I absolutely do, sweetheart," Eddie said. "For the rest of our goddamn lives. You, me, Uncle Wayne, and our four cats."
"We're not getting anymore cats."
"Damn."
"I guess this is it. Just let me make sure that you have everything," Steve said.
He walked throughout the house, looking through everything to make sure there wasn't anything he wanted. Steve leaned against the entryway to the living room as he sighed. He felt Eddie come up behind him, rubbing his shoulders before wrapping his arms around Steve's waist. He felt Eddie rest his head against his, and Steve smiled as he leaned against him.
"You gonna miss this place?" Eddie asked.
"I don't know, there were some happy memories here, but for the most part. . .no, why would I? I have you," Steve said. "You're my home, and I want to be wherever you are."
"I fucking love you," Eddie said, sniffling. "I also love fucking you. Speaking of. . . You wanna fuck in your parents' bed one last time?"
"Yes!" Steve exclaimed and laughed. "I fucking love you too."

Grief ( A Friend Indeed) Part 11
Here we finally get the singing love songs at each other, a misunderstanding, and it's resolution. The next chapter is the last one. Thank you all who've come along with me on this journey.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10
****
Steve woke up the next morning feeling like the world had been taken off his shoulders for the first time since he ran back into the Byers’ house and throw his lot in with would-be monster killers.
Yeah, the thing with Hopper still hadn’t been resolved and maybe never would be, but he had someone who understood. Eddie understood.
The next few days went without incident. Steve still talked to Robin whenever he could, but now he had someone else to talk to, too. He called Percy as well.
But that was reserved for when Eddie wasn’t around. He wanted to talk to someone about being in an gay relationship. And even without knowing Eddie’s romantic history, there was still no doubt that Percy had way more experience than his friend.
It felt good.
Soon it was their last night in Ashland and they were all at Hal’s Bar. Penny, Danny, Wayne, too. Oliver was watching Gale while everyone else went out.
Granted he had only agreed to babysit if Penny and Danny bought him a Nintendo system for his birthday, but it was still nice.
Danny got up and sang Donovan’s Sunshine Superman to Penny, who laughed.
“I’ll tell you right now,” Danny sang, “Any trick in the book now, baby, all that I can find!”
Steve laughed along with her but he couldn’t help but think of Eddie when he heard the lyrics “A you-you-you can just sit there a-thinking on your velvet throne, Bout all the rainbows a-you can a-have for your own, when you make your mind up forever to be mine!”
That silly little throne he insisted on having at every D&D game, that finally Steve got Dustin and Lucas to help him steal it from the drama department when Eddie graduated and install it in Steve’s basement so that he could continue to be King of the Freaks.
Eddie had nearly cried when he saw it. As far as graduation presents go, it really couldn’t be topped.
Steve shared a glance with Eddie who blushed. And maybe they were thinking of the same thing.
They even got Wayne up there to sing House of the Rising Sun.
Steve nudged Eddie with his elbow. “And you said he couldn’t carry a tune. I think he did a bang up job with that one,” he teased.
Eddie grumbled something about hiding talents under bushes or some such shit.
Steve got up and sang “Head Over Heels”.
Just belted his heart out.
*
Eddie and Lauren were sitting there sipping their drinks, Hal, having gave Eddie a bottle of beer since his birthday was so close and Lauren sipping on her Dr Pepper.
“So did you hear that Steve turned down Beth of all people?” Lauren said with derision.
Eddie smiled around his beer. “Oh yeah, but Steve was never gonna tap that, even under more ideal circumstances than attending a funeral.”
“Yeah, why’s that?” she asked.
“His type is leggy brunettes with soulful eyes and curly brown hair,” he said with a smirk.
Lauren turned to Eddie in shock. “So he really would have changed the pronouns that first night if he hadn’t thought that the crowd would shank him outside the bar after.”
“Yup!”
“Holy shit!” She downed the rest of her soda. “Which means the person he has chance with...”
“Is from home, but not at home at the moment?” he teased. “Oh yeah. No doubt he was talking about me.”
“Wait,” Lauren hissed. “How did you know that’s what he said?”
“I may have overheard the conversation on my way to the bathroom,” he admitted with a wince.
She smacked his arm. “You sly dog! You’ve known this whole time and didn’t tell me!”
“It wasn’t my place to tell,” Eddie defended. “He hasn’t even told me she was the reason he wanted to get out of town in the first place.”
She eyed him warily. “Fine.” Lauren crossed her arms over her chest.
“Fine?” he asked, unsure.
“Yeah, it sucks,” she said. “But I get it.”
She looked up at Steve who was finishing the song. “That song is also about you.”
“In my mind’s eye, one little boy, one little man. Funny how time flies,” Steve crooned.
Eddie grinned. “Yeah, I know that too.”
“Go get ‘em, tiger,” Lauren said.
Eddie got up and gave Steve a hug as they passed each other. Hal had already hooked up the amp so Eddie could play.
He grabbed the guitar and put the strap over his shoulder. “Hey, guys! I have one more song for you before I go back to Indiana.”
“Mh-hm-hmm, yeah, yeah,” Eddie began. “Holy Diver. You’ve been down too long in the midnight sea. Oh what’s be coming of me?”
Steve blushed.
Lauren tilted her head to look at him and then back at Eddie on stage. There was something about the song Eddie was singing that got Steve embarrassed.
Well, maybe that wasn’t the right word. Flustered? That might be closer to the mark.
“Holy diver!” Eddie continued to sing. “You’re the star of the masquerade. No need to look afraid!”
A few minutes later the song was over with and was absolutely star struck.
When Eddie loped back over to their table Steve said, “Dude, you really should be famous for your playing.”
Eddie grinned. “But not my singing, right?”
Steve pushed him playfully. “For that too, drama queen.”
Eddie cackled and sat back down.
Steve watched as other patrons got up and sang too. None were as good as Eddie. But then he was pretty sure he was bias.
Eddie walked out with Steve and Lauren at ten despite being told he was welcome to stay.
“So what’s the deal with Wayne and Hal?” Steve asked. “They spent the whole night huddled in that corner booth.”
Eddie laughed. “Hal and Wayne go way back. Since Uncle Danny and Aunt Penny got married. They’ve been inseparable.”
Steve just hummed.
Lauren looked at him. “What’s up?”
Steve scratched his cheek. “It’s just that if either of them had been a woman, it would have looked they were trying to change their last name.”
Lauren and Eddie frowned unsure of what he meant but Lauren caught on first.
“You thought they were flirting?” she gasped.
Steve shrugged. “One of my uncles is gay and if I hadn’t seen them act the same way as Wayne and Hal...”
Eddie stopped in his tracks and then burst out laughing.
“That sly dog!” Eddie crowed. “That’s what he meant when he said that he understood me better than I thought he did when I came out to him when I was sixteen.”
Lauren’s eyes went wide. “I have two gay uncles?”
Steve laughed too. “I didn’t mean to rock your world.”
Lauren looked back at the bar. “I think I know how to get Hal to bend the rules for me.”
Eddie smacked her hand. “No blackmailing Uncle Wayne’s boyfriend. That’s mean.”
Lauren pouted. “Fiiinnnne.” She grinned. “Does that mean I can blackmail Uncle Wayne?”
“No!” Steve protested. “Absolutely not!”
Eddie giggled. “Uh-huh, you got him to use his mom no. You’re in so much trouble now.”
“I do not have a mom no,” Steve protested. “Don’t listen to him he doesn’t know what he’s talking about.”
Eddie cackled. “It’s the same no you used with Red in her trailer.”
Steve’s jaw dropped. “Well, shit.” He turned to Lauren. “Apparently I have a mom no.”
She laughed.
Steve was really going to miss her. Maybe he could convince her to come out later this summer, too.
*
Eddie was not having a good morning. He couldn’t find his Metallica shirt, tore up the whole room looking for it, only for Wayne to point out he was wearing it.
And then he spilled hot coffee on his pants and to change them.
Then the tarp they were going to use to cover the furniture they got was ripped in three places. So Danny had too take Wayne to buy a new one, because the one he had was too small.
So they were late getting out. The skies were darkening and a huge storm was rolling in.
Cue one very grumpy Eddie.
Steve wasn’t fairing much better but that was more that he wasn’t fully awake yet.
“I’ve got to go with Wayne,” Eddie grumbled. “I see you at the truck station we stopped on the way down, k?”
Steve nodded, his lips pursed. “Got it. See you then.”
Eddie nodded and trudged back to the truck.
Wayne wisely said nothing and they both slid into the cab of the truck.
“Your boy going to find the truck stop okay?” he asked to break the oppressive silence.
“He’s not my boy,” Eddie grumbled. “Not yet anyway.”
They started driving and Wayne looked in the review mirror to make sure Steve was following him.
He frowned. “Is he okay?”
Eddie looked back at the Bimmer and saw that Steve was hitting the steering wheel, waving his arms about and he couldn’t be sure. Not at this distance. But it looked like he was crying.
“Shit!” he cursed. “Stop the truck!”
Wayne slammed on his breaks and Eddie threw open the door and ran back.
About half way to Steve’s car the skies opened up and just pummeled the earth with rain.
Eddie picked up speed and yanked the passenger side door open. He hurried in and slammed the door.
“Eds?” Steve croaked confirming the crying as easily as the tears on his face. “What–how–I mean...”
Eddie grabbed his face and gently wiped away his tears. “You seem to be laboring under some misconceptions out here. So I’m going to clue you in.”
Steve blinked. “Huh?”
“One, I have go with Wayne to keep an on the tarp over the heavy furniture,” Eddie explained, hands never leaving Steve’s cheeks. “He needs a second person as a spotter to make sure nothing flies into traffic.”
Steve gulped. “Yeah?”
“Yes,” Eddie said firmly. “Two, I would much rather be in this car with you. Getting to spend this week with you have been amazing because I got to know you better and I loved that. I love just being with you.”
“Oh,” Steve said, his breath stuttering in his chest.
“Yeah, oh,” Eddie said. “And you better listen up to this bit, Steve Harrington, because I’m going to make this a clear to you as I can. I am absolutely head over heels in love you.”
“Oh.”
“So what’s going to happen,” Eddie finished, “is this. I’m going to kiss you senseless, then I’m going to run back to Wayne’s truck in the fucking rain because the weather decided to be a bigger dramatic bitch then I am, and then I will meet you at the truck stop to repeat step one a lot.”
Steve face shivered into something like happiness. It wasn’t a smile, not yet, but Eddie could feel the change of mood.
“That okay with you?” Eddie confirmed.
Steve smiled at last banishing the last of the gloomy thoughts. “Yeah.”
“Good,” Eddie said and proceeded to kiss Steve senseless.
“Wow,” Steve murmured when they broke of the kiss.
Eddie cackled. “Back 'atcha, Stevie.”
“You better get back to Wayne, before you flood the cab of his truck because you left your door open.”
Eddie turned in front of him. “Oops! See you, sweetheart!” He kissed Steve’s cheek and was dashing back into the rain, jacket pulled over his head.
He got to the truck and slipped back in. The seat was wet, but so was his pants so it really didn’t fucking matter at that point.
“So you still wanna argue he’s not your boy?” Wayne asked with a smile.
“Nope.” Eddie just crossed his arms and hunkered down on the bench.
“You not going to tell me about what just happened?”
Eddie looked at him, grinning from ear to ear. “I don’t kiss and tell.”
Wayne shook his head and started driving again. This time Steve immediately followed.

I Only Need Ten
pairing: Eddie Munson x Fem!Reader, BestFriend!Steve Harrington x Fem!Reader
summary: when Eddie decided to go no contact with Y/N after a drunk night, his worst nightmares come to life at a party (based on scene from Daisy Jones and the Six)
word count: 2896
warnings: drug use (cocaine), over dose, terrible boyfriend (the oc not eddie), a small mention of murder and killing (deserved tho), near death experience
masterlist
"I think you're delusional." Steve says as him and Y/N walked up to the party, Robin practically running ahead to get there quicker. It was her first time at a party that was barred from high schoolers, meaning it would probably have hard drugs. Parties weren't usually her scene, but she was ready tonight. Y/N had been hyping it up for ages, begging Robin for years to go - since the younger got out of high school.
"Do you ever let anything go?" Y/N asked, already slurring her words. Steve rolled his eyes as he grabbed the bottle from her hands, one of his own wrapping around her arm when she stumbled a bit. "God, I mean, I think if Eddie liked me he would have said something." Of course they were arguing about Y/N's new boyfriend, her rebound from Eddie after they drunkenly made out and passed out with each other's hands halfway down their pants. Eddie made it very clear he wasn't interested after he slipped out before she woke up and avoided her like the plague, not answering any of her calls and leaving her to talk to Wayne awkwardly.
"Maybe he's afraid." Steve said, wincing as he took a long swig of the hard liquor she had procured; he already felt the hangover. Unfortunately the massive amounts of partying he had done in high school did not help as he got older. Just smelling alcohol aged him ten years.
"Please," Y/N snorted, walking through the people that were in the lawn, music blaring even outside. On the patio table someone was cutting cocaine, and before Steve could stop her she was breathing it in and throwing her head back in a laugh.
"Alright," Steve grabbed her and pulled her into the house, hoping she would only do one line. When Y/N was heart broken, she tended to go a little overboard. Her boyfriend wasn't very good at stopping her, and Steve didn't trust him.
"Steve, come on! Don't act like you're such aaaa," She trailed off, not knowing what to say. "I don't have a good comeback." She laughed loudly, and Steve took another swig of the drink. This was gonna be a long night.
~
"You are such an idiot." Dustin magically appeared at Eddie's side, holding a beer in hand like he did this every night. The two were leaning against a counter in the kitchen, where you could see everyone going in and out.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Eddie yanked the beer away, spilling half of it as Dustin protested, "C'mon, man! I'm seventeen now!"
"And what if Steve sees you?" Eddie knew it was a trump card, since last month Steve had been forced to pick up the kids from a party after it was busted and Will threw up in the roses out front. He hadn't said anything that night, picking them up and taking them to his house, calling Mike's mom to tell her they were all safe and had crashed at his place after meeting up with Eddie. He held El's hair back when she threw up, multiple times, and got them orange juice in the morning while Dustin lived in the bathroom. And then lectured them for an hour and told them that while he would always pick them up when they needed, he was going to tell their parents and let them deal with that next time.
"Steve's gonna be here?" Dustin looked around, but he didn't see Steve. Eddie wasn't even sure how Dustin got into this party; he has seen high schoolers get kicked out at least four times in the last fifteen minutes of him standing in the kitchen and looking for Y/N.
"Yeah, I think he's coming with Robin and Y/N." Eddie tried not to seem weird when he said her name, but Dustin was a perceptive little shit.
"We all know you two have a thing going on." While they all knew that Y/N and Eddie did in fact have some tension, the teenagers were not aware of exactly what had transpired a couple weeks prior.
"You don't know shit." Eddie chugged Dustin's beer, grabbing his arm as he tried to leave before he could go get a new one.
"I know plenty of shit." Dustin rolled his eyes, shrugging Eddie off and walking away, definitely going to grab another beer. Seems Steve's threats didn't work very well.
"Don't say I didn't warn you!" Eddie shouted, leaning against the counter and drinking out of his own cup filled with something a little bit harder.
He wanted to get wasted.
~
"Where's Blake?" Y/N slurred as she looked around. Her eye caught more coke on a corner counter, and when she lit up Steve felt himself tense.
"Have a cig," Steve pulled a cigarette out of his pocket, hoping it would distract Y/N enough that she would temporarily forget about the cocaine that she definitely did not need. He was just about to light it for her when he saw Dustin walk by with a beer in his hand.
That little punk.
"Dustin!" Steve yelled, mind filling with rage at the fact that Dustin had not learned at all from him. "Hey, come here, you little shit!" Steve was off, looking over heads to track Dustin as he snaked through the crowd.
Y/N immediately forgot about the unlit cigarette as soon as Steve was gone.
"Babe!" Blake threw an arm around Y/N as she came up from snorting a line, not even giving her time to breathe before putting a cold hand to her face and kissing her breathless.
Eddie watched the whole thing, watched as Blake threw back his drink and took a hit in one breath, watched the couple laugh and kiss messily. He couldn't take it, seeing her with him. He knew he had fucked up, that knowing her rejection would have been better than this.
He walked away, going to help Steve corral the other little shits that had snuck into the party before they got into serious trouble.
~
Y/N wasn't sure what she was laughing at. All she really knew was Blake had just pushed her off the bed they were jumping on, but her head was fuzzy and her body was heavy, so maybe he was doing her a favor. She liked laying on the floor, breathing deeply.
"Do you ever stop laughing!" Blake yelled at her, making her head spin even more. Suddenly, she felt less of the fun fuzzy feeling and more unclear and in the dark. What was going on?
She could barely breathe, she didn't feel in control of her own body. She could feel her brain shutting down as she closed her eyes. The panic set in when she was unable to open them more than slits, but it was quickly replaced by nothingness.
Across the party, El was screaming.
She was yelling incoherently at Eddie, who felt way too sober for everything. Max and Will and Mike were at her sides, trying to get her to calm down, but she was hitting the older man, grabbing his jacket and pointing up the stairs. He almost put her over his shoulder to walk out, thinking she was clearly wasted, when he heard something he knew was actually English.
"It's Y/N!" That got Eddie moving, running to the last bedroom he had seen Y/N go into. He had kept an eye on her, had watched her get progressively more unhinged and high, but he thought Blake had it. He is her boyfriend after all, and the last thing Eddie wanted to do was intrude.
How could he have been so stupid?
Steve marched behind him, the kids bee-lining to follow. Once Eddie got to the door and found it locked, he pounded on it so hard it rattled the walls.
"Blake? You motherfucker, you better get out of there before I break this goddamn door down!" Eddie's voice was deep and loud, making the kids shiver. They had never heard him sound like this. Blake unlocked the door to stick his head out.
"Go the fuck away, freak." Blake said, but he seemed out of breath and his voice was too high.
"Where's Y/N?" Eddie demanded, trying to push through the door.
"She's fine. Everything's fine. Just go." He rushed out, still trying to shut the door on Eddie. "Go, please." He begged, setting off warning bells all throughout Eddie's head.
"Open the door." Eddie seethed, tilting his head in anger.
"No," Blake started, shaking his head and pushing.
"Open the fucking door." Eddie pounded once more against the half open door, red hot rage engulfing him as he could think of nothing else but Y/N. The way Blake had said that she was fine so quickly, wanting him to leave, it didn't sit right with Eddie.
"She's not your's, man! You had a chance," Before he could finish his sentence Steve and Lucas were helping Eddie open the door; it was overkill, and Blake lost the fight quickly.
"Y/N?" He called looking around. It didn't take long to find her on the ground, unmoving. She looked uncomfortable laying there, not right.
Eddie's heart dropped so far it cracked the carpet.
"Oh my fuck," He ran to her, hands cupping her face. "Y/N? Y/N." He repeated her name over and over again as he lightly slapped her face, waiting for her to open her eyes. When she didn't he pressed his head to her chest, but he felt no movement.
"Holy shit," Dustin muttered as Eddie let out a quiet sob, the younger man stepping back slightly as he took in the scene.
"Steve!" Eddie called, not daring to look away from Y/N. "She's not breathing, man!" He could barely get the words out, his throat constricting in time with his wildly beating heart.
"No, no," Max's hands went to her mouth, feeling Lucas behind her. She turned into him and he cradled her head to his shoulder, making sure she wouldn't see the scene in front of them.
"Y/N? All right, all right, all right." He was convincing himself that she was fine, that any second now she was gonna gasp for air and laugh and he would kiss her senseless. He had been stupid to not talk to her, to not hear her out. Now, as he maneuvered her into his arms, he felt sick at the thought that he had lost time with her. "It's okay, I'm here, Y/N." He pulled her around and made sure her head was tilted up, not realizing how much he was shaking. He tried to calm himself by rocking back and forth.
"Dustin, go find a phone, call the cops, don't give any names. If we can't get her awake, they'll help." Steve ordered, taking charge of everyone before they could continue freaking out. "Will, go with him. El and Mike, go find Nancy. Tell her Y/N overdosed, that she's nonresponsive. The rest of you, tell Nancy to give you her keys and go to her car. Keep your heads down, we don't have time to bail any of you out of jail." The kids moved quickly, leaving him, Blake, Y/N and Eddie in the room.
"Y/N? Y/N." He was still repeating her name, smacking her lightly with the arm wrapped around her head, knowing he would do anything to see her chest move again, hear her heart beat.
"It's gonna be okay," Steve said, but Eddie wasn't listening.
"C'mon." Eddie begged, only looking up when Steve yelled out at someone. He saw Blake moving to the door, halfway out of it. "What the fuck are you doing?" Eddie yelled, head melting at the fact that here he was, holding Blake's girlfriend as she died while Blake was leaving.
"I'm sorry, I, I can't be here, so, um, I'll, I'm sorry," And with that stuttering mess Blake ran out the door, leaving Steve and Eddie alone with Y/N. The two didn't have time to be angry at Blake, too focused on Y/N.
"Steve?" Someone called from the hallway.
"In here!" Steve yelled back, and Eddie was relieved to see it was Nancy holding a white cloth.
"Put this here," Nancy slid to her knees in front of Y/N and Eddie, Robin and Jonathan trailing behind her with horror-stricken looks. Nancy pressed the cloth, which smelled strongly of alcohol, onto Y/N's nose as Eddie held her head up, tears beginning to run down his face.
"All right, stay with me. Stay with me." He begged, not letting himself think about what would happen if this didn't work. "Wake up. Wake up." He gripped her tighter, tears falling off his face and onto hers.
"Hold on," Nancy muttered, because this wasn't working. Y/N still lay unmoving in Eddie's arms.
"Please. Please, please, please, please." He had never begged for something this hard in his life, had never wanted so badly to be able to go back in time and change everything. He felt the guilt of this. He knew it was his fault. If he hadn't pushed her away, too afraid to face his fears, he would have been with her tonight. "Please don't, please don't." Someone was rubbing his back, telling him to breathe, but all he could think was that he wasn't the one that needed help. He felt the air draw out of him, the room closing in as more time passed without Y/N opening her eyes.
Eddie pulled her as close to his chest as possible, pressing kisses to her forehead in between muttered prayers and pleas for her to just stay with him, to breathe and open her eyes.
"Please," He muttered once more, raising his head to the ceiling and calling on anyone who was listening to help him. When he looked down again, Y/N's eyes were open - hooded and dilated, but she was responsive.
"It's you." She whispered, looking at him for a moment longer as he put his hand to her cheek before she closed her eyes once more, this time still breathing.
"The cops are here!" Robin called from the window, and everyone started moving. Steve and Eddie picked Y/N up, who's eyes are closing an opening at the rate of a turtle's.
"C'mon, we gotta go," Steve encourages, and Eddie has never been so grateful for someone who knew what to do. Usually, he likes to be in charge, likes to take control of situations, but right now he can't think. He's straining his ears as if he could hear her heartbeat somehow.
"She's not conscious." Eddie tells Steve, who silently leans down to help Y/N up. They had her arms over their shoulders, her feet dragging on the floor as the two boys carry her out.
"I'm gonna fucking kill him." Steve mutters as they get to Nancy's car, people running around and creating the perfect cover.
"I'm getting to him first." Eddie isn't seeing red yet, because he has to get Y/N to safety, but he knows as soon as she's okay he's going to go insane.
It takes three seconds for Y/N to be placed into the care of Robin, who looks up and expects Eddie and Steve to climb in.
"Make sure she's okay." Eddie says. He's already imagining every way he's going to hurt Blake.
"What?" Robin barely says before Steve is slamming the door shut and walking back into the house.
The men are lit by red and blue police lights as they make their way back into the house.
"Hey!" A hand on Eddie's shoulder stops him, which should top them off that they know this person because they went for Eddie's shoulder knowing Steve would wait. Eddie would not have had Steve been the one who was stopped. "What the hell are you two doing?" Hopper is standing there when they turn, arms crossed.
"I have to go kill someone." Eddie says, as if he isn't talking to the chief of police.
"Can I ask why?" Hopper doesn't seem very concerned, but he's sure Eddie is telling the truth by how angry he looks.
"You don't wanna know, Hop." Steve starts, knowing that Y/N won't get in trouble from him but not sure he wants to expose her.
"Are the kids okay?" Hopper asks, concerned.
"We got them out." Steve can tell Eddie is itching to break some bones, and he's not sure how happy Hopper would be about that.
"What happened to Y/N?" Hopper knows that the only reason Steve and Eddie would be marching into a party together is her.
"Hop," Steve starts, knowing that if they tell Hopper he'll probably tell them to leave so he can arrest the jackass. He needs to pummel Blake's face himself. He needs to let Eddie almost kill him and pull him back before any murdering actually occurs.
"She ODed and he pushed her off the bed before he left her not breathing on the ground." Eddie is about to turn around when Hopper grabs his arm. "You're gonna have to arrest me to keep me off of him, and if you're gonna do it you better do it now."
"Listen to me," Hopper says quietly, looking around to make sure the other officers are all doing something else. "I will keep them away from you. Whatever happens in the next fifteen minutes, I don't know about it. When I find him, it better look like a fight gone wrong and not a homicide. Got it?" His voice scared Steve, but invigorated Eddie.
"I only need ten."

Throwing my hat into the latest trend of Shovel Talk posts. tw reference to past child abuse (not detailed)
Eddie gets the shovel talk from no less than five people.
Dustin, Robin, Erica, Max and Lucas. (Those two came as a pair, as they so often did since the Vecnapocolypse) Actually, technically six, if you count the fact that Dustin kept saying And Will Said...
They all say in and around the same thing. Steve deserves the world, he's been the babysitter for longer than Eddie's been the DM, blah blah blah. Honestly, Eddie's getting a little tired of people assuming he'll hurt Steve and leave him heartbroken. By the time he closed the door after saying goodbye on the final He Means More To Us Than You Do conversation, he was left in no doubt that the kids expected him to fuck up royally and they would not hesitate to choose Steve when (not if, as far as they were concerned) it happened. They would never forgive him. It was good to know where he stood, he guessed.
What Eddie didn't know, was that Steve was getting a few shovel talks of his own.
Wayne was first, obviously. Steve wasn't surprised to be pulled aside at the Byers/Hopper barbecue to listen to some very unsubtle threats about what might happen to him if Eddie came home with so much as a pout Even One Time, Boy, You Hear Me?
More surprising, was Joyce.
Joyce came by one night under the pretence of bringing by some leftover lasagne. Steve offered her a tea and they sat in the kitchen together while she asked polite questions about how things with Eddie were going. When Steve was done telling her all about the constant butterflies in his stomach, she clasped his hand gently across the table.
"I'm happy for you sweetie, I am,"
"Thanks Joy–"
"But you need to understand that Eddie is a fragile boy, and he needs real love, Steve. He's not the type to be happy with a, what do you call it, a fling? He's not the type for that,"
Steve was taken aback.
"This isn't a fling, Joyce,"
"Can you promise me that? I remember him from when he was just a kid and, god, well, I'd hate to see him hurt,"
Steve's mouth was open and closing like a fish, totally at a loss for words.
"Steve, can you promise me that? I know you're grown now and things are different, but I need you to say it for me,"
"I promise, I... I'm not who I used to be,"
Joyce patted his hand.
"Good boy. I better get home,"
And then there was Hopper.
Hopper knocked on the front door of the Harrington house early one Saturday morning, three sharp thuds on the door that made you think, Yup, Cops Are Here.
Steve answered still half asleep, barely aware he'd even pulled on a pair of sweatpants.
Hopper didn't accept the invite to come inside. He noticed Eddie's boots by the door.
"He here?"
"Uh, yeah, has been since yesterday, why? Did someone say he done something?"
"No, he's not who I'm here for,"
"What? I haven't done anything?"
"Good, and I expect you to keep it that way,"
Steve didn't know how to react. His eyes were still adjusting to the daylight and his brain hasn't quite woken up yet.
"Hop, I don't know what you're talking about,"
"El told me that you all know about the night he went to live with his uncle, says he told everyone the basics when Jon was worrying about turning out like Lonnie,"
"Yeah, he told me some more about it after too,"
"Figured he might,"
Steve shuffled from one foot to the other.
"I still don't know why you're here..."
"I was the one who carried him out of that house that night, Steve,"
"Oh,"
Oh indeed. Hopper's voice was gruff and low. Steve was actually nervous.
"I listened to him cry for hours. He couldn't breathe it was so bad. I never wanted to hear another child even speak after having to sit in the room while he told Wayne what went down,"
"I–"
"And I don't think I'll ever be able to sit right with the idea of that kid being sad again, because of someone else messing with him. I never forgot what he sounded like when he cried. Don't make me have to see him cry again, Steve. Do you understand me?"
Steve was stunned. All he could do was nod dumbly. There was no point offering any sort of defence, Hopper obviously wasn't here to listen. He was here to tell. Of all the people Steve might have thought would be on Team Munson, the former chief of police wasn't exactly top of the list. Eddie's distinct lack of criminal record through his teens might have been some indicator though.
Hopper gave Steve a curt nod and turned back down the driveway without another word.
He closed the door and leaned against the wood, letting out a low breath. Eddie appeared at the top of the stairs, rubbing his eyes.
"Baby? Who was that?"
"Uh, Hopper..."
Eddie huffed a sleepy laugh.
"Hmm, shit, Law Man swing by to make sure I was behaving myself?"
Steve went to Eddie and pulled him into a tight hug, nuzzling into his hair. He really had no clue, did he?
"He was just checking in,"
Eddie hummed and went towards the kitchen to switch the coffee pot on. He had told Steve about the shovel talks he got from the kids earlier in the week. Trivial threats about leaving Hellfire and never helping him write a song again or going to one of his shows, taking back his Walkie privileges, things that seemed like the end of the world to a group of minors. Eddie had wistfully mentioned that Steve would never have to worry about being on the receiving end of something like that, he didn't think anyone really cared enough. Maybe You'll Get A Weird Look From Wayne, But I Think You're In The Clear, Golden Boy.
Eddie had no idea about the people that were looking out for him without him realising it. It made Steve's heart hurt. He'd half expected Robin and the others to have words with Eddie. It was almost a joke, he hadn't thought twice about it because he just kind of knew it would happen. He knew they cared, and he couldn't imagine how it would feel to be so sure that they didn't. That no one did.
Steve made a promise to himself then and there to never let Eddie feel like no one cared enough ever again, giving himself his very own version of the Don't Hurt Eddie Munson shovel talk.
It was the least Eddie deserved.

Time to Get to Know Yourself
Pairing: Eddie Munson x bestfriend!reader
Warnings: angst, slight mentions of being cross-faded, fem!reader
part one part two part three - Part four of the The other woman series part five
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You brought your fist to the door, and knock.
it opened.
"y/n?"
it was Eddie. he looked as surprised as you were worried, while his eyes were dark. they seemed, deeper. as if a million thoughts were bouncing around in his head before you'd knocked on his door.
were there even more now?
"hey.. I.. well I wanted to apologize… for last night. I'm not sure what exactly I said, but I know the gist and.. I shouldn't have said that. I shouldn't have blown you off," you say, eyes darting everywhere but his eyes, fiddling with your hands.
"It's.. okay. I mean I wish you told me all of that when you weren't cross-faded out of your mind," he chuckled, ruffling your hair.
you look up at him, "can I come in?"
he nods and lets you pass. you plopped down on his couch and sighed, the air feeling thick as a layer of tension filled his trailer. he sat down next to you, twisting his rings deep in thought.
you speak, attempting to alleviate some tension, "so where's Wayne? isn't he still on the night shift?"
"yeah, he's actually hanging out at the bar with his friends right now. I'm glad because he would have had my head if he saw me skipping again. just.. needed to think somewhere where Dustin isn't going on and on about his nerd stuff- as admittedly cool as it is - and mike isn't being a total dickhead preteen," he jokes, staring into your eyes.
you watch as his expression softens for a second, before looking away and tensing up again. you've never seen him so preoccupied with something, apart from his campaigns. and this was a different concern.
you noticed how much his leg was bouncing, aswell.
"Can I ask.. what's got you thinking? like.. if it's something I had said to you?"
he bites his lip, assessing. he nods solemnly and begins to speak hesitantly.
"you.. you don't think I hate you right?" he says, brown eyes staring up at you needily. he looked genuinely worried about it, like it had been on his mind since last night. he looked like he desperately needed an answer, whether yes or no.
"no. I mean.. I don't think you hate me. I've just.. had some things I've been thinking about for a while," you sigh, slightly ashamed. you were ashamed you had them for so long but ashamed you blew up on him while you weren't sober.
he sighs, and some of both of your nerves relaxed.
"how long have you felt that way?"
you stopped, blushing a bright crimson red. Maybe he felt your eyes burning into him as you seemingly froze, but he chuckled.
"Sorry. Know it's probably not something you want to be out in the open like that, right?" he smiles reassuringly at you, "I'm… sorry you couldnt tell me. I mean, spent m'whole life trying to be your best friend and a safe space for you and I guess I've just been an added stress huh?"
"no! no.. don't think this is your fault, it isn't. I should have said something, I was just.. scared. I don't want to.. lose you. and if you're uncomfortable with me now I completely understand.."
he stops for a second, staring into your eyes. you stir, wondering what exactly he's thinking about. he sits closer to you, and places his hand on your cheek.
"You won't ever lose me, sweet girl. y'hear?"
for a moment, everything stood still. you were both smiling sweetly at each other, and though it was a prolonged amount contact, you didn't feel the need to look away or to sit back. it was just Eddie again.
you feel tears appear in the corners of your eyes, slowly running down your cheek.
he wipes them away and presses you to his chest, hugging you as tightly as he could.
"hey, hey it's okay. I promise. I'm sorry you've been harboring this for so long, you don't deserve that. I… I love you too."
...
"Ed's which towel can I use?" you hear a voice call out from the bathroom.
you slowly peak up, wiping your tears and staring past Eddie to the bathroom.
"Y/N, I know that probably sounds bad after right now but she just ended up staying at my house after, she didn't want her parents to know she-"
you sit up, not even bothering to look at him.
"i.. don't want to hear it. bye, Eddie. Tell Chrissy I said hi, okay?"
you smile and walk to his door, slowly opening it and walking out. you felt your knees attempt to buckle, but you soldiered on. you bit your lip harshly to keep it together.
You began to jog to your house, opening the door and releasing all of the hurt you had pent up.
"hun, whats wrong??" you mom prodded, running over to you and hugging you.
"He... doesnt care. you were right. He doesnt care about me anymore."
you mom looked at you briefly before hugging you tighter.
"i'm so sorry dear. Thats horrible, and just weird for him.. boys are stupid, sweetie. always will be, no way around it," she chuckled, patting you head and kissing the top of it.
after your sobbing subsided, your mom had advised you take a bath.
as you listened to the running water, you thought over your most recent moments with him. he was so sweet and reassuring, he even..
he even said he loved you.
why would he do that?
why was Chrissy there?
you know he tried to tell you, but you didn't want any excuses anymore. you just wanted to be by yourself, sinking into the warm water filling your bathtub.
as you relaxed, you heard you home phone ring multiple times in the next room. You also heard your mom telling the phone that you, 'didn't want to talk,' and you were grateful she wasn't taking his excuses either.
you looked at your hands, raising them above the water.
its time you learned how to be Y/N without eddie.
It's time you knew yourself a bit better.
staring at yourself, you noticed a beauty mark on your hand you never realized were there before.
you smelled the sweet air, and realized all of your candles were vanilla. You didn't realize you liked it so much.
you looked over your past interactions. despite being around certain people for so long, you were sure of yourself for the most part, and assertive. maybe you seemed mean, but realizing now why you were like that and that it was warranted, you were glad you were.
you were already noticing things about yourself apart from eddie.
a new beauty mark
your favorite scent
your own personality
you were excited to remove yourself from them. You have no more strings attached, no more puppet-master controlling your feelings anymore.
you smiled.
