BOG - Jim Like the putrefying, bloated carcass of a humongous sea creature lolling around in the surf, so BOG are rolling in on a purulent tide of blackened ooze. Don't expect joy, or hope, only suffering, from five tracks of low end oppressive torment, made all the more painful by a surprisingly crisp and effective sound. All of the instruments have been tuned to deliver the final Coup de Grace, while the vocals perform an exorcism on our very souls. With 'Jim' BOG has produced an album of quality, blackened horror, riffs allowed to skitter about like a hellish horde, driving you into the corral of doom, before ripping you apart.

WHAT THE BAND SAYS-

"CONTRA was formed as an instrumental 3-piece by former SOFA KING KILLER guitarist, Chris Chiera, and ex- RUE drummer, Aaron Brittain. After briefly playing together in another local outfit, they sought to start their own band and enlisted the aid of SO LONG ALBATROSS bassist, Adam Horwatt. Except rather than just having a bassist, the band decided on a different approach and adopted a two guitarist format, albeit with Adam playing 4-string baritone guitar.

CONTRA quickly wrote and recorded the "Son of Beast" demo and began a steady schedule of playing to great acclaim locally. However, CONTRA wanted to add another layer to their potent mix of metal, blues, rock, and sludge by asking vocalist Larry Brent to join their ranks. Larry had previously contributed vocals to local hardcore stalwarts DON AUSTIN, THE UNHOLY THREE, and SPLINTER, in addition to the Laughing Hyenas-influenced HATCHET JOB. After only three shows, Larry began recording vocals to eight of the ten tracks of what will be CONTRA's debut album."

SHRIEKS COMMENTS - A difficult to pin down to any specific genre type of band, unless of course there is a genre called 'heavy as shit' Contra are set to release their follow up to the 'Son Of A Beast EP, shipping begins on 1/7/2017.

Straddling most types of extreme, metal, be it doom, sludge, hardcore or stoner, the album 'Deny Everything' is underpinned by a fairly simple beat. Don't think for one minute that is detrimental to the album however, because what it does is create a stomping, angry, in your face, yet surprisingly accessible form of aural thuggery. The production is crisp and clear, embellishing the galloping, chunky riffs careering throughout 'Deny Everything.'

As dangerous and menacing as the Kray Twins patrolling their manor...staring at you straight in the eye!

Sapata - 'Satanibator' What the band says: Sapata, known before as Satanibator, is a Finnish doom rock band from Tempere and formed in 2014. Their debut album'Satanibator' was recorded in Suomenlinnan Studio with Producer Mauri Syrjälä and it will be released on June 2nd via Inverse Records https://www.inverse.fi/. Sapata, the dancing dead from old temples. It's a word from mouths of ancient kings. Sapata is stories and soundwaves of joy and death, life and pain, and depression. It is a mystic and beautiful ceremony to love and death. Members - Saara Samane, TT Sousalo, Felix Voltti, Anttu Puutio What The Shrieks From Below says - Sapata's 'Satanibator', a sarcophagus of beguiling laments for a lost love, maybe a Princess yearning for the hand of a commoner, someone she cannot have, wanting to be someone she cannot be. Somewhat fanciful maybe, particularly for a blog which usually treads a darker path, but nonetheless an image that can't be avoided once the vocals of Saara Samane bewitches you with her tales of anguish. To say her voice is powerful is something of an understatement and reminds me of the style of Suzanne Sledge of the band 68-75. The bear pit that stoner doom bands frequently fall into, is one where a (female) front person overly dominates the sound of the rest of the band, and for those of us who crave the slow, granite riffs of that particular genre, that's a particular no, no, right kids? Fortunately, Sapata manages to harness this particular powerhouse, the rest of the band creating mythical threads of ancient jams, sometimes bringing the hammer down hard, sometimes creating crystalline, emotive, sacrificial chimes to the Egyptian God, Horus.

'Satanibator' is an album I have been listening to continuously for a couple of weeks , and it still lifts me every time I play it. An album fit for the old kingdom, and the crowning of a Pharoah.

El Colosso-Pathways

El Colosso - Melbourne, Australia Hurtling into town, shooting shit up and terrorizing the townsfolk, the four dust storms that make up El Colosso are set to release their follow up to last years EP 'Cannonball' The album is called 'Pathways' and comprises of seven tracks of blistering metal. 'Pathways' is an album that brings a smile to your face, its evident that El Colosso, had a lot of fun making this record, as 'Pathways' showcases a band at the top of their game, delivering songs of glorious swagger, encapsulated by moments of emotive reflection, particularly with the monumental solo's that make up most of the track 'Moving Mountains' there is a maturity here that belies the fact that this is El Colosso's debut album. ......but beware, 'Pathways' is a rattlesnake of a disc, spitting riffs and venomous, southern style licks throughout, this bites down hard and doesn't let go. An essential purchase.
