Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida took credit for sending planeloads of migrants to Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, as part of an apparent bid to force authorities in another state to take responsibility for them.
State Sen. Julian Cyr of Massachusetts told The New York Times that around 50 migrants arrived in two planes about 3 p.m. local time, with no warning.
Fox News Digital, which first reported the story, published a video of migrants disembarking from planes on the island and getting into a van.
Tumblr media
"Yes, Florida can confirm the two planes with illegal immigrants that arrived in Martha's Vineyard today were part of the state's relocation program to transport illegal immigrants to sanctuary destinations," Taryn Fenske, the communications director for DeSantis, told the outlet.
Tumblr media
State Rep. Dylan Fernandes on Twitter said the community rallied to help the migrants, putting them up in a local church.
"Our island jumped into action putting together 50 beds, giving everyone a good meal, providing a play area for the children, making sure people have the healthcare and support they need. We are a community that comes together to support immigrants," he wrote on Twitter.
He also shared photos of the makeshift accommodation.
Cyr, speaking with the Martha's Vineyard Times, criticized the move as a cruel political stunt. On Twitter, he said the migrants had arrived on a charter flight from Texas and appeared to be mostly from Venezuela.
"This is deeply disgusting. This is a cruel ruse that manipulates families that are seeking a better life," he said, describing them as "fundamentally racist tactics."
In recent weeks, the Republican-led states of Texas and Arizona have sent thousands of migrants to Democratic-led areas, including New York, Chicago, and Washington, DC.
They say President Joe Biden's policies are behind a rise in unauthorized migration and that Democratic-led cities should bear the responsibility for them. Some of the areas migrants have been sent to voted to become "sanctuary cities," places where authorities deliberately do not cooperate with efforts to enforce migration laws.
DeSantis is burnishing his anti-migration credentials amid rumors he's positioning himself for a presidential bid in 2024.
Martha's Vineyard is an agricultural area and exclusive vacation destination where former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, as well as Hillary Clinton, frequently spend time. In the offseason, it has about 20,000 residents, and locals told The New York Times there were concerns about the town's long-term ability to host the migrants.
Christina Pushaw, a spokesperson for DeSantis, used the situation to troll liberals.
"Martha's Vineyard residents should be thrilled about this. They vote for sanctuary cities — they get a sanctuary city of their own," she tweeted. "And illegal aliens will increase the town's diversity, which is strength. Right?"
Tumblr media
Some of you may have been wondering, "Hey, @dontmeantobepoliticalbut, did DeSantis just use Floridian's taxes to fly migrants in Texas to Massachusetts?"
You'd be half-right. Remember Blue States pay for Red States. Florida used California's reallocated surplus taxes to fly Texas's migrants to Massachusetts...
The $12 million money comes from interest earnings from Florida's $8.8 billion portion of the American Rescue Plan's Coronavirus State Fiscal Recovery Fund. It provided $350 billion to state and local governments, which the U.S. Treasury said is "to support their response to and recovery from the COVID-19 public health emergency."
Another interesting thought....

A federal judge on Tuesday blocked Title 42 – a controversial rule that’s allowed US authorities to expel more than 1 million migrants who crossed the US-Mexico border.
While the rule was drafted by the Trump administration during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Biden administration has relied heavily on it to manage the increase of migrants at the border.
District Judge Emmet Sullivan in Washington, DC, found the Title 42 order to be “arbitrary and capricious in violation of the Administrative Procedure Act.”
Prior to Title 42, all migrants arrested at the border were processed under immigration law. Thousands of migrants sent back to Mexico have been waiting along the border in shelters. Officials have previously raised concerns about what the end of Title 42 may portend, given limited resources and a high number of people trying to enter the country.
CNN reached out to the Department of Homeland Security for comment.
The injunction request came from the American Civil Liberties Union, along with other immigrant advocacy groups, involves all demographics, including single adults and families. Unaccompanied children were already exempt from the order.
The public health authority was invoked at the onset of the coronavirus pandemic and has been criticized by immigrant advocates, attorneys and health experts who argue it has no health basis and puts migrants in harm’s way.
Sullivan had previously blocked the Biden administration from expelling migrant families with children apprehended at the US-Mexico border.
Earlier this year, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced plans to terminate the order. The CDC said at the time it’s no longer necessary given current public health conditions and the increased availability of vaccines and treatments for Covid-19.
But in May, a federal judge in Louisiana blocked the Biden administration from ending Title 42.
Since that court order, the administration has continued to rely on Title 42 and most recently, expanding it to include Venezuelan migrants who have arrived at the US southern border in large numbers.

Tumblr media
The Daily Mail tiene más;

The Health Department typically learns about cases from a positive lab report from someone who has been tested for COVID-19. The Health Department has a team of trained public health personnel dedicated to case investigations and contact tracing. A case investigation begins when we learn about someone who is either confirmed or diagnosed by their healthcare provider to have COVID-19. Investigations are conducted both for individuals within the community and in high-risk settings, such as long-term care facilities or other congregate settings. Contact tracing, testing, and staying home and away from others when sick or after contact with someone who is sick, are critical steps to keeping disease low in our community. The Health Department has been conducting contact investigations since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak. Training is important because case investigations and contact tracing must be done quickly and with knowledge and skills in areas such as patient confidentiality, effective communication, cultural sensitivity, and complex health topics. They may be public health or health care professionals, health educators/outreach workers, and even community members who have certain skills and proper training. Contact Tracing: the identification of persons who have been exposed to a case and are possibly infectedĬontact investigations are conducted by well-trained staff.Case Investigation: the identification and investigation of a person with either a confirmed or probable diagnosis. These investigations are made up of two fundamental activities: Contact investigations have been conducted for decades for communicable (infectious) diseases, for example tuberculosis (TB), sexually transmitted infections, measles, and now the new coronavirus, COVID-19. The Institute for Public Health Innovation is an Equal Opportunity Employer and welcomes applications from individuals who will contribute to its diversity.A contact investigation is a routine public health practice to limit the spread of a disease within the community. Please note: only one file can be uploaded to apply. Your cover letter can be submitted under "Additional Information" as text or uploaded as one file along with your resumé. How to Apply: Please submit a resumé and cover letter to complete your application for consideration. In 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, IPHI has a flexible telecommuting policy, though travel, in-person meetings and office-based work may be required for these positions. Location: This position may be based at any one of IPHI’s Washington, DC Largo, Maryland or Richmond, Virginia locations. This is a full-time, non-exempt, administrative position, and an excellent entry-level job opportunity for non-profit and public health professionals.Ĭompensation: The Program Assistant position is a non-exempt (overtime eligible) position with competitive benefits and an anticipated starting full-time salary range of $42,000-$48,000, commensurate with experience. The Program Assistant works independently, with support, and collaboratively with other IPHI team members in the following areas, among others: supporting collaborative work process, assisting with communications and marketing activities, supporting the use of technology, scheduling and logistics, supporting meetings and training activities, conducting basic research, responding to public inquiries, data entry, expense reporting, and record keeping. The Program Assistant is responsible for providing administrative and logistical support for IPHI’s efforts to develop, engage and sustain the community health worker workforce. The Institute for Public Health Innovation (IPHI) is currently recruiting for a Program Assistant to support its community health worker programs. IPHI is the official designated public health institute serving the region as recognized by the National Network of Public Health Institutes. IPHI’s work strengthens health systems and policy, enhances conditions that promote health, and strengthens government and community capacity to ensure equitable health opportunities for all. Established in 2009, the Institute for Public Health Innovation (IPHI) is a regional non-profit organization that develops multi-sector partnerships and innovative solutions to improve the public’s health and well-being across Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia.

Why Do We Collect in the Face of the New Coronavirus Epidemic?
Manifesto by Jessica Chen
Various industries have struggled to cope with the sudden blockage since the New Coronavirus epidemic. The art world, which is heavily reliant on physical contact and communication, has been forced to accelerate its digitalization and every digital format imaginable, whether it be online fairs, galleries, auctions, live broadcast talks, conversations, studio tours, or podcasts, is designed to maintain a sense of presence in the art world and to maintain communication between the industries. This is done to maintain a sense of reality in the art world and sustain the industry's interaction and vitality.
“It was the best of times, and it was the worst of times; it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way—in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only. In short, the time and the present are so much alike that some of the loudest powers, for better or worse, insist on using only the highest adjectives to describe it." The opening lines of the literary masterpiece A Tale of Two Cities are always a compelling read in troubled times, and classics are classics because of their timeless wisdom. Since the New Coronavirus epidemic, industries have struggled to cope with the sudden blockage. The art industry, which relies heavily on physical contact and communication, has also accelerated its digitalization. Every digital format imaginable, be it online fairs, galleries, auctions, ......, live broadcasted talks, dialogues, studio tours, podcasts, etc., is designed to maintain a sense of presence in the art world and sustain communication between the industries. This is done to maintain a sense of presence in the art world and sustain the industry's interaction and vitality.
What can we learn from history?
According to A Daily Report on How COVID-19 Is Impacting the Art World The mayor of Washington, DC has launched a $25 million fund to support small businesses, nonprofits, and self-employed individuals affected by the coronavirus pandemic. The funding will be available through small business recovery microgrants. To qualify, applicants must be located in Washington, DC and must have lost at least 25% of their revenue due to COVID-19. Every time we go through a recession, the market reacts differently, and we always learn different lessons from history. Analyzing the past 30 years of financial crises, art and culture economist Mike Andrews says that in the early 1990s, total global art market sales plummeted from $27 billion in 1990 to $10 billion in 1991. It took 14 years to return to 1990 levels when the entire art world depended on the U.S. and European markets for sales. In 2010, thanks mainly to the Chinese market, art market sales rebounded significantly. This was a challenging time for small and medium-sized galleries, even though the government had introduced various funding schemes at different times of the crisis. So far, the epidemic has not resulted in massive gallery closures, nor has the art market changed dramatically. The real impact on the art market has been the globalization of galleries over the past few years, with the Internet and digitization having a significant impact in this case. If the adjustments made in the last few months had been made before the event, they would have taken significantly longer.
The Internet as Salvation
Although digitization is the current trend, the art world's digitization would have been delayed several years if not for the epidemic. The main reason for the art world's reluctance is that artworks rely heavily on the sensory experience and the collaboration of human interaction. Therefore, for sophisticated collectors, the Internet is not the best platform for art experience but the only trump card for now. Galleries may not have the workforce to respond to collectors' needs in real-time, and direct human interaction, interaction, and problem-solving cannot be replaced by an email. The digital art may be inherently suited to online platforms, but the sculpture experience is very different. Although he lives in Lima, Peru, a long way from New York and other art centers, collector Marzano says that even though he made almost all of his purchases last year via PDF files, he often experienced the shock and surprise of seeing the artwork in person when he received it. Collector Hick said that he had collected some artworks online, but only because he knows the artist very well. However, the Internet has undoubtedly made the art world more transparent regarding prices and people's feedback. Several collectors agree that creating an online gallery is no easy task. Even though virtual reality (VR) exhibitions may be the closest, current technology can still fully restore the art experience to reality, leaving it to the technology to mature over time. Therefore, Hick said that he collects art through the Internet to support galleries doing online exhibitions.
The Emergence of New Models and Creations
At this very moment, it is not difficult to see that our former competitors, from galleries to auction houses, are sharing collectors and resources in various degrees of strategic alliances. The change in cooperation mode will lead us to a brand-new territory. The four collectors have expressed that continuing to collect contemporary art is not only to help artists have funds to continue their creativity and maintain the art ecosystem but also to preserve art history for the future and to serve the art culture of the next generation as they have different foundations and are sponsors of various institutions. Suppose museums are a way to present a dialogue between the past, present, and future. How can we understand the development of human civilization in the past if there are no museums in the future? Therefore, both established history and contemporary art cannot be ignored and need support.
On the other hand, Horowitz points out that we will see many artists responding to this period of creation in the period after the epidemic. Digital platforms, such as Instagram, have become a publicity tool to help artists gain public attention and a medium for artists to create art recently. Therefore, we will see fundamental changes for artists, gallery operators, collectors, and aesthetic makers.
Regardless of the changes in the post-epidemic art world, the American collector Krauss believes that the topic guides the art market, but it is the future for the collector. As collectors, we must consider the evolution of the artist's work in the larger context and its evolution over the previous year or two. To anticipate what the art market will look like in the future. Due to the embargo policies and travel bans in various countries, it is not difficult to hear art practitioners or observers suggesting that there will be a greater focus on local artists or localization in the post-epidemic or epidemic era. However, Marzano argues that in the case of Peru, its contemporary artists are a small community and, therefore, must be seen in a global context to be more critical. Therefore, while supporting local art, he also supports global art. Ekzasibasi, who lives in Istanbul, Turkey, believes that art is an ecosystem and should not worry about local and global art. It would be very worrying if, in the future, art institutions only focus on local art.
While crises are always unsettling, perhaps this quote is a fitting conclusion to the period: change is the greatest lesson learned from this epidemic. People don't like change, but after more than 30 years as an economic analyst, one of the most important conclusions is that people always underestimate their ability to cope with change. The future is new, but it's not as bad as you might think.
