In my best attempt at translation:

Sharon Kovacs carries a lot of history with her. She hardly knows her biological father and in her early childhoodyears she had a stepfather. In old interviews here and there, there are covert mentions of abuse. At 12 she was placed out of home and from that time she lived in a series of foster families. Kovacs: "For a long time I suffered from depressions and fears. When in the Covid-years those become so strong that it made me feel all alone, I realisedmy mother is the only one who has always been there for me. She had said in the media before it was a requirement Lindemann would sing. "I don't know if I would have dared to publish the song without Till. Because, for, yes, I don't know, it's.." At that those busy hands (note: earlier in the interview is mentioned how she expresses her fleeting thoughts with fluttering hands) eventually land back safely in her lap and she sighs.

"Releasing a single like that, may be calling out something you're not quite ready for. That people will start asking questions about abuse. The fact alone that I'm talking about it. Till is a bit of my lightning rod. The intent is that people watch the video and say 'Look at that, that is Till Lindemann of Rammstein!' and they forget about me." She bursts out laughing.

Is Sharon Kovacs okay again? She seems to conclude so in Mama, the final song on Child of Sin. I've spent so long hoping / And now that you've opened your eyes / I'm fine / I'm fine / I'm fine. Kovacs: No, I'm not there yet. I'm still a long way off, but I have come a long way already".

Dutch breakthrough in affordable and rapid capture of CO2 from the air

The Dutch Carbyon says it has achieved a breakthrough in the affordable removal of CO2 from the air. Direct Air Capture (DAC) is seen as a necessary but costly technology to remove carbon from the atmosphere and thus reduce the greenhouse effect.

One of the major challenges of DAC technologies is that the process of capturing CO2 from the air is extremely slow. The most commonly used materials need hours to bind CO2. Carbyon[1] developed a new type of material that can shorten this process to a few minutes. One kilo of Carbyon material can capture 5 tons of CO2 over a year.

Cost reduction

And that gain of  time means that the costs of this CO2 capture technology are also drastically reduced. Carbyon expects that the purchase price of its machine (CAPEX) will cost the equivalent of 50 dollars (45 euros) per captured ton of CO2. The operational energy costs must then be added to this CAPEX to arrive at a total cost per ton of CO2 captured.

The International Energy Agency (IEA)[2] published its expectations for the potential of DAC[3] in 2022. With the state of the art of techniques a year ago, the IEA estimated that a large DAC factory should be able to achieve a cost price of 114 to 305 euros per ton of captured CO2.

Objectives

With a CAPEX of 50 dollars per tonne of CO2, Carbyon is in any case well on its way to keeping the total costs of DAC within limits. More than a year ago, Change Inc. spoke already with Hans de Neve, founder of Carbyon. He stated at that time about Carbyon's objectives: “Currently it costs 500 to 700 euros to capture one ton of CO2. That would have to be 50 to 100 per tonne to be able to apply it on a large scale.”

Less energy required

The cost of capturing CO2 is largely related to the amount of energy the process requires. Initially, Carbyon's technology suffered from damage due to water absorption, which resulted in a higher energy demand for the process. But the recent breakthrough has resulted in much less water absorption, limiting energy demand to 2,500 kilowatt hours per tonne of CO2. In the earlier interview, De Neve indicated that the price 'must be closer to 1,000 kilowatt hours per tonne to make the business case interesting.'

Lots of renewable energy

DAC technology can in principle be applied anywhere in the world. But the business case becomes more interesting in places where renewable energy can be generated easily and cheaply, for example with many solar and wind farms, such as Australia, Tasmania and southern Chile.

$100 per ton of CO2

“Our tireless confrontation with Mother Nature's laws of nature has finally given us insight into how we can solve this puzzle,” De Neve now says in a press release. “This is a major team effort; 2,500 kilowatt hours per ton is a challenging milestone for any DAC technology. By demonstrating this with a fully electric, low-CAPEX technology, Carbyon is in pole position to reach the target of 100 dollars (90 euros, ed.) per tonne that the market is looking for. Nothing can stop us now.”

Mediaset, Champions League: martedì 22 agosto su Italia 1 in esclusiva in chiaro Rangers-PSV Eindhoven. Martedì 22, alle ore 21.00, in esclusiva in chiaro su Italia 1 e in live streaming su sportmediaset.it, si affrontano gli scozzesi dei Glasgow Rangers e gli olandesi del PSV Eindhoven. Su Mediaset Infinity invece in diretta "Anversa-AEK Atene" e "Rakov-Copenaghen". Sonic Whip: o SonicBlast dos Países Baixos em sala fechada | Reportagem Fotográfica

Vasco dos Madmess em ação [mais fotos clicar aqui] A sala de espetáculos holandesa Doornroosje em Nijmegen nos Países Baixos acolheu, nos dias 5 e 6 de maio, respetivamente, na última sexta-feira e sábado mais uma edição do Sonic Whip. O nome do festival foi inspirado numa banda daquele país, curiosamente oriunda da mesma cidade onde se realiza. A banda chama-se Automatic Sam e numa das suas músicas tem o trecho “Dance, motherfucker dance! You're getting hit with the sonic whip!”.

A comparação com o festival português SonicBlast não o é à toa. Ambos têm o mesmo foco musical em géneros de rock mais densos nos quais são “combinados riffs de guitarra estrondosos com acordes de baixo fumegantes”.

Em 2018 o Sonic Whip iniciou-se como um evento de somente um dia tendo sido ampliado a dois dias em 2022, algo que repetiu-se este ano. Em 2020 e 2021 o festival não teve lugar devido à pandemia.

A poucos dias do início sofreu duas baixas inesperadas: os Stoned Jesus e Somali Yacht Club não tiveram hipóteses de saírem do seu país natal, a Ucrânia. Ainda assim esta 4ª edição, realizada neste 2023, manteve um alinhamento fortíssimo. Ao cartaz foram adicionadas as bandas The Machine e Colour Haze.

Passaram pelo evento mais de 20 bandas, oriundas de diversos países mundiais. Maior enfâse em formações vindas dos Estados Unidos da América e do Reino Unido. Como não podia deixar de ser, bandas dos Países Baixos tiveram igualmente o seu devido destaque.

Vamos agora de seguida destacar algumas das bandas presentes.

Sexta-feira, 05 de maio

A primeira em foco tem de ser os Madmess, obviamente. Eles são oriundos de Portugal, mais especificamente do Porto, porém passaram por Londres para poderem expandir o seu raio de influência. Eles que têm uma paisagem sonora pintada entre o stoner e o krautrock mais antigo. Representaram muito bem as cores nacionais e nesta belíssima oportunidade apresentaram ‘Rebirth’, o seu último LP lançado em 2021. Recentemente este trio deixou de ter a colaboração do baterista Luís Moura. Nos Países Baixos Ricardo Sampaio e Vasco Vasconcelos contaram com a colaboração na bateria de Helena Peixoto, artista conhecida por ser parte integrante dos The Black Wizards.

Outro destaque da jornada 1 são os The Psychotic Monks. Eles que em 2019 passaram por Guimarães e pelo L’Agosto. Deixaram uma incrível e positiva impressão. Estes franceses levaram na bagagem o seu mais recente LP ‘Pink Colour Surgery’ com um travo mais experimental dentro do estilo post-punk mais habitual ao que costumam tocar.

The Psycotic Monks no Sonic Whip 2022 [mais fotos clicar aqui] Fica para os Deathchant a referência final sobre as bandas que tocaram no dia inicial. O mentor e líder é T.J. Lemieux (vocalista e guitarrista) e apresenta-se em quarteto. Têm a particularidade de existirem no regime de “porta aberta” pelo que a sua formação a qualquer momento é modificada. ‘Waste’, álbum que os Deathchant editaram em 2021, é descrito como sendo uma mistura de stoner rock com psicadélica e ainda um pouco de boogie tingido com blues. Nada como cada um escutar e fazer o seu próprio julgamento… Mostraram este álbum também em Portugal no ano passado no SonicBlast.

O destaque inicial da jornada 2 vai para os Radar Men From The Moon, são naturais de Eindhoven nos Países Baixos e existem desde 2010. Destacam-se pelo seu experimentalismo. Em 2016 tocaram no Reverence Festival Valada em Portugal sendo que já passaram por festivais importantes, dentro do género, como o Roadburn, Liverpool Psych Fest ou Levitation em França.

Radar Men From The Moon no Sonic Whip 2022 [mais fotos clicar aqui] Naturais do Reino Unido os Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs conhecidos também como Pigs x7 foram um dos grandes destaques na jornada 2 do Sonic Whip.Já tocaram várias vezes em Portugal tendo a última aparição acontecido no ano passado no SonicBlast. Tocam um som com claras influências stoner e hard rock. A estação de rádio norte-americana KEXP tem um canal de YouTube, bem conhecido pois divulga através desse meio as sessões ao vivo que as bandas fazem nos seus estúdios. Uma das últimas publicadas é destes Pigs x7, eles que já têm um reconhecimento mais mainstream.

Pigs x7 no Sonic Whip 2022 [mais fotos clicar aqui] A derradeira referência vai para uma banda que entrou no nosso radar nos últimos anos foram os Slift, mais especificamente em 2018 quando tocaram no Rodellus em Ruílhe (Braga). Esta banda destaca-se pelo uso de riffs hipnóticos. ‘Ummon é o LP que lançaram em 2020 e que têm vindo a mostrar. Mais recentemente as faixas “The Real Unseen” e “The Real Unseen” foram editadas e adicionadas ao catálogo da Sub Pop abrindo-lhes novos horizontes.

Este Sonic Whip foi um sucesso em ambos os dias.A jornada de sábado teve mesmo lotação esgotada. Os passes gerais esgotaram e os diários de sábado igualmente.

Em ambas as noites viveu-se uma bela vibe, tal como as fotos assim o comprovam. Em 2024 já é sabido que o festival vai regressar nos dias 10 e 11 de maio. Se são fãs dos universos musicais psicadélico, noise e stoner rock a ida ao Sonic Whip é altamente recomendável!
