honestly one thing I hate about geller's videos is that he always talks (and spoils) some awesomesauce games that sound really interesting to me so I pause the video and think okay I will play this game and I'll get back to it later when I finish the game and then it takes me literal years to even play the game. I remember starting to watch "what's the point of taking apart a body?" right as it dropped and then it got to disco elysium, which I haven't played at the time, and I paused it forever and I actually only watched it a few months ago because I played DE last april. Same with his DE video essay. I paused a video for a year and a half just because I didn't want spoilers for a game I really want to play but kinda never get around to, or have no means of playing because I have never had a console of any kind in my entire life due to having this condition called EEPS (Eastern European Poorfag Syndrome) fuck everything in the world. I literally only played like 2 zelda games from roms on my phone because I had nothing better to do and controls sucked balls so I just kinda gave up. I'm so disconnected from the more "western" gaming culture I guess because all I had as a kid was a shitty family computer that was years behind in terms of global technological progress and I grew up playing half life, cs 1.6, minecraft on really low settings, morrowind, pathologic (which was way too difficult for my 10 year old brain to comprehend so I dropped it) and various old children's games that are based on animated movies like madagascar or whatever. idk I just never got the same experience as a lot of people my age did. I never had a console, I never played any of the classics like all the nintendo games, I never played shadow of colossus which jacob geller And a Friend of Mine seem to cream their pants over, I never played cod, I never really participated in anything other than pirated valve games, pirating other games, and borrowing cds from friends if I could. also I never watched most of the cartoons that are ingrained in western culture like idk spongebob or whatever the fuck I just watched soviet cartoons if I felt like it but mostly I was an autist burrowing myself in encyclopaediae and whatever scifi you could throw at me. ok that's one long ass post point is I feel very alienated and I feel like an outsider no matter where I go. I don't fully fit in pretty much anywhere. I feel lonely sometimes.

Game of Thrones (my opinion on what might happen)
(This is going to be a very long post, but I wrote it so you might get a few giggles out of it.) (Also I have no idea how to spell some of the characters names so please forgive me.) So Game of Thrones is now starting to focus on who might sit on the Iron Throne in the conclusion of the television show. But then again, as we all know, the writer George R R Martin has an amazing talent of killing the people in the books/show that we all get attached too. Now Jon and Danaerys are being focused on as now we all know that Jon is a Targareon, meaning he is Danaerys' cousin, as Danaerys and her (very dead) brother were the grandchildren of the Mad King. But oohhh just hold your horses here, have we not learnt anything? What happened to all those people, who we thought were the "main characters" of this wild roller coaster ride of a series?? Hmm?? THEY WERE KILLED IN SOME OF THE MOST BRUTAL (and fucking hilarious) WAYS I CAN THINK OF!!! Let's list a few: Eddard Stark: head chopped off by the dickwad we know as Joffrey Robert Baratheon: drunk as he tried to kill Pumba for his dinner Joffrey Baratheon: poisoned (Thank you George) Lysa Arryn: went flying out of the Moon Door, with credit to Petyr Baelish Khal Drogo: ...well this ones a weird one... let's just say death by black magic and a not so magic pillow fight With this in mind, I honestly think that Jon and Danaerys, with Tyrian tagging along, are going to die sometime in the final seasons. (In Jon's case, for the second time.) Because of their goals and history and surprising survival in this disaster zone of dead bodies, I believe they're not too far from being dead bodies themselves. But wait! I hear you call out, Danaerys has three awesomesauce dragons to help her take over Kings Landing. Well here we go. *cracks knuckles* In my experience with dragons in both the cinema universe and mythology, the more terrifying, violent and merciless a dragon is, the easier it is to kill them. Example A; Smaug from The Hobbit. Scales as hard as diamond? Fuck you too! A tiny arrow the size of a damn toothpick compared to Smaug, A FREAKING ENORMOUS DRAGON, went straight into his heart and killed his instantly...sure. With this in mind, Drogon is probably gonna battle it out for a little while, then have a dramatic death scene with Mother Danaerys crying and swearing revenge on Cercei or whatever, but the other two are probably going to die within the first five minutes of the attack on Kings Landing. Also, did anyone forget that the Iron Throne is made out of swords that are Valerian steel? Someone's gonna realise this and be like "well shit we've got a few dragons on our asses; we need the best steel possible." Also they'll need those swords because no matter how hard we try to forget, the White Walkers are still a thing. Wait! Again I hear you scream out, what about Cercei? Do you not pay attention? Remember the prophecy at the beginning of the damn show? Honestly I can't remember how it goes off by heart, but I do know that it means that Jaime is going to have to kill his sister/lover in the end. I mean, it's a wonder why he hasn't before. (Bitch alert.) And what about Arya, I hear you ask. Ah yes the tiny assassin with a pointy stick who wants to kill everyone who had it in for her family. Most likely she will reunite with her family at home, with a trail of blood and dead bodies behind her. Though I do have an idea what will happen to her when the attack on Kings Landing occurs. So Jon and Danaerys team up and lead an army knocking on Queen Bitch's door, and Arya might tag along, because who is on her target murder hit list that she recites every night before she goes to bed? You guessed it folks, The Mountain. Although now, he's more The Zombified Mountain. And who else to go against him than Arya Stark, with Needle, to re-kill the new guard dog to the queen. Wait! Again I hear you cry out. (And you gotta stop, it's rude.) What about Tyrion? Granted, Tyrian is an incredible character with great wits and an even greater tolerance for alcohol. But then again, what will happen to him if Danaerys and Jon dies? Either Cercei will kill him, and that's how Jaime will get around to killing Cercei, as revenge or possibly in protecting his brother, OR Would what's left of the Kings Council accept that, as he is the last Lannister able to rule, Tyrian will be king? I'm pretty sure Jaime won't be king because he's got the whole "I'm a fighter not a ruler" sort of cliche going on. On the list of people who are still alive at this point, I believe that after all of the carnage and disaster that will ensure for the battle at Kings Landing, who will take throne, but the most unpredictable and brilliant character in all of Game Of Thrones; Petyr Baelish. Yes, I'm serious. Let me explain. This bastard is the most fabulous and extremely intelligent character I've seen on GOT so far. I will admit, Varys is up there on the list, but Baelish beats him by a fucking country mile. So in the end who's gonna step up to the table after everyone's dead but Mr Creeper himself, along with Sansa. Although from what we know about Sansa and her thoughts on Baelish, I don't think she would want to be queen with Baelish as king. I will admit, if Baelish does skip joyfully over everyone's dead bodies, yank the crown off of Cercei's bad hair do, and proclaim himself king, first of his name, what would happen to Sansa and Arya? Well, Sansa definitely won't marry him, and I think that Baelish would respect that. Baelish might make Sansa and Arya his wards, as they have no more living relatives (not including Benjin, because no one knows where the fuck he is or whether or not he's already turned into a Walker at this point.) Plus they're probably some more people out there wanting to kill the rest of the Starks, so protecting them would be Baelish's first move. (Second would be to get a new throne.) Overall, even if none of what I predict might happen doesn't actually happen, I think we all know that it's guaranteed to be a fucking bloodbath, with lots of good Ol' death and carnage. :) But what do you guys think? Honestly, I'm actually really interested. If you have read this all the way through, which I doubt most people have, swing by my inbox and tell me what you think is going to happen in the final seasons.

Hi ais! I've just finished re-reading icos and I once again feel so sad that it's over again. Do you have any nook recommendations or books that you like?
Aww thank you for reading ICoS the first time, let alone rereading it! That’s sweet of you
I could have sworn at some point I compiled a list (which I was going to link only because I have the worst memory and forget things I love whenever I try to list it all) but I can’t find anything! What the hey.
So, I made a list below the cut :D I broke it up between M/M, nonfiction, fiction, YA, and anime/manga. You should know ahead of time that I tend to read mostly manga or nonfiction, and/or I tend to gravitate toward “darker” stories or stories that deal with a lot of nuance and complexity. I don’t tend to gravitate toward stories that are really black and white (but idk about the ones I mentioned from when I was a preteen/teen because it’s been so long since I read them).
That may tell you if you might like any of these or not :) I wrote a little about the book by most of the names to give you a bit more of an idea.
Hopefully at least one of these looks interesting to you :) Let me know if you need links on something if you can’t find it, or if you want a bit more of an explanation on anything. Some (honestly, most) of these books I haven’t read in forever but others I periodically reread just because I
BOOKS BOOKS AND MORE BOOKS BELOW
**M/M:**
All for the Game series by Nora Sakavic - m/m, super awesomesauce series, it’s my fave in general. First book free, second 2 books 99 cents each. Nora was having some issues with the first book not being on the site with the rest so I put it on my site until she’s got that figured out, so people can still read the series. Get the first book here: http://aisylum.com/tfc/ and then I link the other books on there.
Raised by Wolves series by W.A. Hoffman - m/m, this one is a very different series and style of storytelling. I personally adore this series but it’s also the sort of thing some people may not be into for various reasons. But for me, I read the series all the way through and instantly started over and reread it all again. First book is Brethren.
**NONFICTION:**
anything by Simon Singh but especially The Code Book and Big Bang - these are nonfiction books and if that makes you go “UGH NO WAY” then know that Simon writes nonfiction like fiction so they’re really great and easy reads, plus you get lots of great info. Also, The Code Book is what I used as research for Jeffrey’s knowledge base + the whole thing with the message in Evenfall and the OTP comment. (If you’re like “Hey yeah what WAS all that about?” I answered it here.) (Also also, if you saw Imitation Game, then you should know that the Code Book covers at least part of the same history as that movie)
Mountains Beyond Mountains by Tracy Kidder (follows the story of one of my favorite humans, Paul Farmer who founded/co-founded Partners in Health which is one of my favorite charities) also Tracy writes other books that look intriguing to me but I haven’t read yet.
Erik Larson - Devil in the White City, Thunderstruck, and other books by him – he, like Simon, writes nonfiction in a way that reads very easily like fiction. I like the way he interweaves various stories of various people into one book. Devil in the White City might be my favorite of his that I’ve read? Mostly because it combines architecture + America’s first serial killer + the 1893 Chicago World Fair and all of these things make me go YES PLX
Troublemaker by Leah Remini and Rebecca Paley - this is about scientology; I listened on audiobook–it was interesting and informative
Also, I listened to Dan and Phil’s first book (The Amazing Book is Not on Fire) on audiobook and that was also entertaining–although if you have no idea who tf Dan and Phil are, that may be less entertaining to you lol
Death’s Acre, or Beyond the Body Farm, by William Bass and Jon Jefferson - so, Bill Bass is super interesting, tl;dr is he’s a frontrunner in forensic anthropology, these books are about a farm people donate their bodies to where they decompose in various states to help forensic anthropologists learn more on decomposition which then helps in murder trials and elsewhere. If you’re into forensic anthropology, check out Bill Bass
Dismembered by Susan Mustafa and Sue Israel - this is true crime about a serial killer in Louisiana. It is, therefore, quite graphic and you should heed the title as quite accurate representation of what you will be reading about in the book. But if serial killers or true crime intrigue you, I really liked this book and have been on the lookout by more from these ladies. I thought it was written well and told the story well.
**FICTION:**
books by Jefferson Bass - there’s a whole series called the Body Farm series or something. Jefferson Bass is the combo if the two people for Death’s Acre, except that pseudonym is for their fiction series based on scientific reality/facts. It’s a pretty interesting series from what I recall but I never finished it. But if you like forensic anthropology and want to read a sort of murder mystery/detective type of series written by an actual acclaimed forensic anthropologist with all the science being legit, this is your series
Tony Foster series by Tanya Huff (starts with Smoke and Shadows) - ok so, Tanya Huff was SUPER nice the one time I messaged her. I like her a lot as a person. I will say that this series is not the actual best writing you will ever read–BUT Tony Foster is such a freaking great narrator that I love the series. Also, Tony’s a gay male which is always cool to have as a lead, especially in a sort of fantasy like this :)
Sandman comics by Neil Gaiman – honestly, just about anything you pick up by Neil Gaiman will be good. I’d have to reread all the books to say which is my favorite but I do recall liking Good Omens a lot, which he cowrote with Terry Pratchett. But Sandman is what got me into graphic novels, eventually manga (because I was used to reading GNs by then) and Neil Gaiman as a whole. I fucking love Sandman and will forever recommend it, but it’s a GN so it may not translate well to nook? idk
Speaking of Terry Pratchett, if you like stories that are easy to read and oftentimes have a fair amount of humor infused into them, I recommend him and probably any of his books but my particular recommendation would be Mort as well as the Sam Vines books. I think the first time we see Sam Vines is in the Guards! Guards! book.
Otherland series by Tad Williams - ok in all honesty, I never finished the series (got partially through 3rd of 4 books) and it’s been probably 20 years since I read them, so maybe my opinion would be different now. But Otherland was such an interesting sci-fi ish series which I honestly think is probably going to end up being somewhat realistic to our future. Basically, VR is a thing and people choose to live there instead of in reality sometimes, and now people are dying IRL because their bodies are wasting away and a diverse group of people from around the world get together in the virtual world to try to figure out what’s happening and how to stop it, but they don’t realize the politics and danger involved. Why didn’t I finish reading, you wonder? It’s because I read this series when I was a teenager when it first came out, and I think when I read reading the 3rd book the 4th hadn’t even been written yet. Anyway I was suuuuuper engrossed in the series–so much that when a certain thing happens related to my favorite character in the series, I was too emotionally affected by it I set the book aside to take a moment to reset my emotions before continuing, and then I just…. never continued…. ^^;; I got too distracted by other series but I always plan to finish it. Also side note, Tad Williams is a super nice author who actually wrote back to little teen me(!), taking my email seriously and encouraging me to write. Also side side note, Tad Williams wrote a bunch of books and I recall liking all of his fantasy series I read too but I don’t think I’ve read all his stuff.
Tamir Triad by Lynn Flewelling - first book: Bone Doll’s Twin. It’s been a while since I read this (as is the case for pretty much everything on this whole list) but I remember thinking this was a really interesting trilogy with a rather unique story, especially for the time this was written. If you ever read Lynn’s other book series (Nightrunner, m/m) then know that the Tamir Triad is set in the past of the Nightrunner world, by I don’t remember 500 years or something– also it’s written TOTALLY different than Nightrunner. The two styles are like night and day; if you don’t like the Nightrunner style, totally give Tamir a chance. If you do like Nightrunner, I still think you should read the Tamir books because I think they’re better, even though I did like Nightrunner in the beginning :)
Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire. This book is the inspiration for the wildly popular musical Wicked (which I also recommend you see because it’s omggggg
**YA:**
The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer - for the most part, I quite like this series. It’s a very easy to read YA series that re-imagines the Disney Princess/fairy tale female leads into a sort of cyberpunk Earth with space adventure future. Most of the females in this series are pretty strong female characters, leading their own stories, having agency, not being overpowered by the male characters like in their Disney or fairy tale versions. It has kind of a Sailor Moon vibe in some aspects, mostly because Marissa’s a total nerd who loves Sailor Moon lol
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo - this is actually part of a series but tbh I liked Six of Crows more than the other book. Basically this book is a heist novel with young adult MCs. It’s a freaking BEAUTIFUL hardcover btw, like black edged paper and cool illustrations on the chapter pages and omgggggggg so this is one I recommend you buy in print if you like it, rather than just getting the ebook. It has an MC (Kaz Brekker) who I swear to god is like if early Evenfall Boyd and Hsin had a baby lol
Books by Sherryl Jordan - it’s been approximately forever since I read any of these books so maybe my opinion would change if I read them now, but back in the day I loved the fuck out of Sherryl’s books when I found them as a preteen/teen. I remember feeling like a lot of her female characters felt strong or at least I thought they were cool. The main one I remember liking back then is Winter of Fire. Mind you, Sherryl Jordan’s books are now really hard to find–turns out she’s a New Zealand author and a lot of the books went out of print at various times. But if you happen to run across one, you can check her out and see what you think. I mention her because her stories stuck in my head for 20 years.
Mage Heart (and the Chronicles of Dion Trilogy) by Jane Routley. Another one from forever ago–no idea what I would think of this if I read it today but I remember really liking it when I read it as a teenager, and the story has stuck in the back of my head since. I don’t remember a lot about the actual plot, just that I was inspired by the story/world.
Aaaaand that’s probably enough. You’re probably regretting asking XD
There are a couple of other books I remember from when I was really little but you probably don’t care about those lol The only one I’ll mention is Dealing with Dragons by Patricia Wrede - that’s the first book in a YA series. I quite like Dealing with Dragons, but tbh I was really frustrated by the other books. You could read just the first if you wanted to check it out.
Lastly, if you like manga/anime at all, here are some other recs: fave anime/manga recs, plus here’s another good manga

Episode Review: “The Disturbing Life of Toiletta”
Don’t get used to seeing that T-word around here.
This is going to be made into a video at some point, so if you’re not interested in reading this, feel free to wait or just scroll to the pros and cons section at the bottom.
Tumblr media
I've been looking forward to this episode for a long time now, but ... not in a good way.
Before we get to the dubbed version, let's go over what the plot of the Japanese version was.
Keita (or Nate as you may know him) hears the girls in his class talking about Hanako-san of the toilet, a legend that is passed around schools in Japan. Although Keita isn't really sure about whether the legend is true or not, Whisper tells him that Hanako-san is a Yo-kai, one that was around even before his parents' time, so the story is worth checking out.
When Keita heads to the bathroom with his friends ... the girls aren't even looking in the stall and are just acting scared. Nothing.
Tumblr media
Later, Keita, Whisper, and Jibanyan all head back to the bathroom. Whisper assures Keita that a legend like Hanako-san wouldn't be in a school like Keita's, but Keita thinks that if he uses the Yo-kai Watch, he'll know for sure. Before they go in, they hear a strange sound coming from the bathroom--Whisper thinks it's just someone straining, and that there's no way that Hanako-san could possibly be there.
It looks that way, actually - at first, the bathroom is deserted. After a look around with the Yo-kai Watch, there she is! Hanako-san!
Tumblr media
Hanako-san's going through a problem: in the past, her usual methods would scare children and send them running. However, with the huge burst in kids using social media, her legend is slowly becoming less frightening. Rather than kids passing the story around to scare each other, they simply post online that they've seen her, and nothing becomes of it.
It's for that reason that Hanako-san wants to think of something new to bring fear to kids, but she's not sure what to do. Keita has some fresh ideas, though ...
Tumblr media
She tries popping out of a fish tank, hiding in a broom closet, and waiting in a cooking pot ... and the kids scream every single time. Success! She can once again strike fear into the hearts of children.
In the end, Hanako-san even scares Keita. After he gets home, Keita is told that he received a package. It contains a strange DVD, so he, Jibanyan, and Whisper sit down to watch it. Taking a nod from the movie series "Ringu" (or "The Ring" as you may know it,) Hanako-san pops out of Keita's TV and scares the heck out of him, getting one last scare in before the episode finishes.
Tumblr media
Now then, has the dub changed any of that?
Let's take a look ... And yes, I'm going to nitpick.
First, let's get this over with: I HATE the name. Her name is Hanako-san, or Hanako Of The Toilet, or just Hanako. "Toiletta" is a terrible name and just makes a joke that she haunted a bathroom. It's not creative, it's, for a lack of a better word, lazy. "Hanako" is not THAT of an unusual name for American children to hear on dub anime, considering the same children that watch Yo-kai Watch have likely heard the names Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke at some point.
When Naruto's name is changed to "Blonde Noodle Ninja," the naming crew might have a leg to stand on with me, but yeah. HA-NA-KO.
I'm going to use the name "Hanako" in the rest of this and not "Toiletta."
Moving on.
Tumblr media
Now, the voice. I can't really say much here. Well, I can, but it's rambling.
I expected either a little girl's voice or someone trying their best to sound like a teenager. Hanako's voice reminds me of her Japanese voice: not a child's or teen's, but definitely an adult's voice. Her legend started back in WW2, so she's been around a while. The voice actress did a pretty great job--as per usual, the anime dub doesn't have the same voice as the video game, but that's to be expected with this series. I personally thought the English game's voice clip of her name sounded way too young and sad, so the dub episode's voice was very nice compared to that. Great job.
The first issue I had was right at the start -- "Sarah" mentions that a "Grade One" girl was "flushed down the toilet."
NO.
If the dub anime would even look at the games they're based on, one of Hanako’s in-battle effects is "Curse of Hanako 3rd Grade."
Tumblr media
3RD GRADE. KEEP YOUR LORE TOGETHER, DUB!
And on that same note, "flushed down the toilet?" Really? Look dub, I know you're terrified of children finding out that Yo-kai Watch is Japanese. You've proven that time and time again. But you can't even just say that she haunts the bathroom and leave it at that?
On a more positive note: The dub kept in the whole "knock 3 times, visit the 3rd stall" bit from her actual Japanese legend. Good job, dub! That wasn't so hard, was it? ... but then, in dub fashion, ruined it in the next line:
Tumblr media
Girl: "Is someone there?"
Hanako: "I'm dropping a deuce!"
Tumblr media
“I'M DROPPING A DEUCE?” REALLY?
In the original version (And in the legend itself,) she'll say "Yes" or "Yes, I'm here." NOT THAT SHE'S USING THE TOILET.
That's a poop joke for the sake of a poop joke! I would say you're better than that, but we both know you're not. At least it wasn't a meme.
Tumblr media
Throughout the middle of the episode, there isn't much in the way of changes besides what all anime dubs do--changing or adding lines for the sake of timing the mouth flaps, the usual stuff. For example, Whisper mentions Cheeksqueek and Fidgephant while the guys are in the bathroom, I assume to fill time. It only sticks out if you're really familiar with the original material.
This is all well and acceptable until we reach a spot near the end ...
In the Japanese version, Hanako calls herself an "entertainer." In the English version, she claims to "scare the deuce out of kids." WHAT IS YOUR FASCINATION WITH POOP, DUB? Surely ONE child in your focus group must not have laughed at it? Even one?
Afterward, in the original Japanese version, she explains the different ways children summon her. The dub, ever eager to hide that Japan exists, changes this as per usual. The most glaring example is the original version's "spin around three times and you'll see her." In the dub, this girl is spinning for no real reason and Hanako just decides to scare her while she's dancing as if it was her own idea. Remember, this character has no legend behind her, just poop jokes!
Tumblr media
The next bit is the same plot-wise as the original, save for dialogue changes for mouth flaps. Nate gives her suggestions on how to make her scares "fresh" again, and even calls the plan as such like in the original. I was honestly surprised the word "Awesomesauce" was never muttered once.
And finally, the ending. In the original, Hanako crawls out of Nate's TV, muttering "gonna get you" until she pops out and tells him that she "saw this in a movie." In the English version, Whisper says that the beginning of the DVD Nate receives is "just like that movie," so the reference is still there. Rather than saying "Gonna get you" as she crawls, Hanako sings the "Dan Dan Dooby Zubah" song. Really unusual change, but they did keep the Ring reference (sort of) despite having a different character mention it.
Tumblr media
If you've stayed with me this long, I'm sure you're ready to wrap this up. So let's look at the final pros and cons of this little slice of Japanese legend with all of the Japanese sucked right out.
Pros:
The voice, I guess. As I said, I didn't have high hopes for it, and with this dub I never do. The dub can't seem to keep any voice between the games, anime, and toys save for some of the mascot characters that appear on merchandise, and even with some heavily-merchandised characters that isn’t the case (Venoct’s three different voices comes to mind.)
With the dub, Hanako sounded old enough that you could tell she isn't "Grade One" anymore, which I liked.
The dub kept the plot the same as the Japanese version for the most part.
Cons:
"I'm dropping a deuce?" Come on.
The name. This is a personal gripe. I will never accept it and you can't make me. I still have hope that eventually she'll call herself "The Artist Formerly Known As Toiletta" and be referred to as "Hanako." It's not like this localized version of the series keeps anything consistent in the various media (games, anime, manga, etc,) so it could be changed without much notice.
The dub, as usual, sucked anything related to Japan or Japanese lore out of the story, which was especially clear when they changed "ways Hanako is summoned" to "her own scaring ideas." Not to mention saying that she was flushed down a toilet.
Tumblr media
"Scaring the deuce of out kids." I suppose I could just chalk this up to one line of "some lines were changed to pointless, ridiculous poop jokes," though.
Final rating? I'll give it a 7/10. Not ruining the voice is the bulk of that score, and the remainder comes from keeping the plot relatively the same. The 3 points it didn't earn were from the poop jokes and butchering the legend a bit.
Should you watch it?
Eh ... up to you.
Hanako's still cute, so if you can tolerate the dub's writing, go for it.
