true detective rewatch thoughts s1ep7: after you've gone (in which we get ecocritical, aka the symbolism of lawnmowing)
— this episode is all about showing and seeing. "i won't avert my eyes," rust tells marty, pretty much a thesis statement for the series' final act. what characters see is key for progressing the case and unlocking the secrets of the yellow king and his cult — when marty continues to call rust crazy, rust says, “there’s something you’re gonna have to look at, no other way around it”, and the viewing of the fontenot tape immediately changes marty's stance on helping him out. similarly, miss delores talks with reverence about carcosa only when rust shows her his drawings of the devil traps.
— but just as central to this episode are instances of not seeing. marty reveals he quit the police because he didn't want ever "to look at anything like that anymore" (referring to the baby in the microwave); maggie visits rust, asking him to tell her that marty will be safe in an instance of wilful ignorance, and he returns “it never sat right with me, and it doesn’t now, you asking me to lie to you about him”; papania and gilbough, lost in the bayou, ask errol childress for directions and, just like rust seventeen years earlier, fail to notice that he's the man they're looking for.
— this latter instance links back to the role of the louisiana environment in the series, as i talked about in my thoughts on ep2. childress is sitting on a lawnmower, tidying up a cemetery (whose graves are above ground, as is traditional in the region because of flooding). the act of manicuring an area marked by death, an area susceptible to natural forces far beyond the scope of a tidy lawn, works at odds with nature. it is connected to the golf club scenes between marty and geraci, wherein the perfect greens contrast sharply to the usual fare of oil refineries and swamps. golf is metonymic for business exchange, dubious political deals, and the veneer of polite society that conceals corruption from view, makes it look pretty — just the way the golf greens are falsely watered and treated, destroying an ecosystem in the process. childress, mowing the grass, is an agent of this veiled destruction, working on behalf of the institution (the 'parish').
— this is, of course, inescapably reminiscent of marty and rust's altercation regarding the mowing of the harts' lawn. the lawn is not only the site of institutional corruption but also masculine pride and ownership. marty views his place on the earth not as stewardship but as dominion (to borrow from christian theology, heavily present throughout the series) and, just like his wife, his lawn is his own to tend to and control. rust intrudes on his mastery of his environment — but in cutting the lawn, he's also contributing to that environment's oppression, manicuring corruption from sight just as he lies to maggie about marty's infidelity. this is representative of his involvement, however ambivalent, in the institutional cover-up of the murders.
— this is why it's significant that marty's second meeting with geraci is on a boat in the bayou. they're out of geraci's jurisdiction literally, yes, with him being the sheriff of iberia parish, but they're also out of the realm of regulated, manicured politeness, the veneer stripped away. we get long, sweeping shots of the watery landscape at the end of this episode and at the beginning of the finale — remember rust's assertion that the whole place would be underwater in ten years, nature reclaiming its oppressed territory — and it's here that geraci is forced to confront with his own two eyes evidence of his own corruption in the form of the fontenot tape. marty and rust can only work effectively free of the unrelenting forces of the coverup — both the police institution and the neatly trimmed lawn.

R-r-r-rewatch thoughts for The Mandalorian S2 Ep2
(or Chapter 10 as they seem resolved to call it)
- can I just express my joy for a moment that in one episode we get peli, the answer to my pleas for female representation in the ‘sketchy middle aged car mechanic’ niche, and a female alien designed with no consideration towards sexiness. (I mean I’m sure there’s someone. There is always someone somewhere on the Internet, is the bitter truth history has shown to us. but it’s not the intention behind the design haha)
- they do take great pains to deliberately show you boba’s armour several times both in the recap and in the episode itself, so never despair he is very likely still on his way onto our screens once more
- this dude holding the baby hostage wanting specifically the jetpack in exchange is the one (1) break this whole episode gave din lol
also the Patented Mando Finger Curl of Stress while he talked softly and calmly to not promp this asshole to make a sudden move... the most endearing character tic, I love my space cowboy dad so much
- fun continuity detail: din is all out of whistling birds now, and you can see it here!
Tumblr media
I wonder if he could still use the same mechanism with different ‘ammo’, it’s just not as effective? from the way the armorer spoke whistling birds seem quite rare and it would be an inefficient use of beskar if that’s the only thing it can be loaded with
 - I love how after the last episode, a 50 min epic with a bunch of original trilogy significance and impressive technical achievements and exciting character reveals, I was like ‘yeah okay I suppose that is quite interesting’, and this mess/comedy of inconveniences is the thing that fully makes my brain tip into the obsessive ‘BABY AND DAD SHOW!! BABY AND DAD SHOW!!!!!’ mind state lol
- ah the traditional ‘mando trudging slowly but steadily through the desert’ montage we all love to see (I hope this is going to be a Thing for the second episode of every season from now on)
Also I assume his suit has some sort of temperature regulation built in and that’s how he didn’t, y’know. die under the blazing desert sun
-
Tumblr media
CAT FIGHT CAT FIGHT man I love the jawa. also mando doesn’t even glance over at them, really emphasizing how he’s like. done with this entire day (and it’s all barely even getting started din! i’m sorry)
Tumblr media
yodito’s look in this scene tho... he’s like ‘we’ve Seen some shit lady’ (actually I think he’s staring at ‘dr mandible’ like O___o. it’s been a long day for a lil boy)
you get to see dr mandible’s cards a few times, so I assume anyone who knows the rules of... sabacc? probably? could figure out beforehand that he was in a bad spot. (the star wars fanbase is one of those where I KNOW the rules exist somewhere, and I know people who know those rules exist too)
- that sound the baby keeps making -- the ‘boo-a’, sometimes with a p-sound at the end -- if that’s the precursor to him saying any variation whatsoever of ‘dad’ or ‘papa’ or ‘baba’ or even ‘buir’ or anything, I will die. I will sink to the ground in a heap and never get up (the way he keeps seeking out gaze contact with the helmet and seems perfectly satisfied with it too... fasdhfaskdjhl my FEELINGS)
- it seems confirmed in this ep that the mandos who died on nevarro did so while holding off the enemy so the rest(probably especially the children) could get away; some of them appear to have escaped. which I guess is a small relief
Tumblr media
frog lady stepping out of the shadows and into our hearts
I like that her firm nod after Peli translates ‘her husband has seen them’ lets us know she understands... basic? is that the common tongue thing in star wars there’s just so many to remember across fandoms lol? perfectly well, even if she can’t speak it.
- mando might be running low on ammo for the pulse rifle, if the fact that he hasn’t replaced the missing cartridge on his... bandolier belt thingy is any indication
ETA: actually ignore me this has been a thing since the literal first episode of the show my brain just had a hiccup lol
- so baby seems to use a little bit of the force to pull the eggs towards him -- I wonder how often he ‘taps into it’ or if it’s always ‘on’ in the background for him. if so I guess there’s no wonder he’s so hungry (but also... kid you can’t end this lady’s entire family line like that one cat who singlehandedly made extinct a whole species of bird! D:)
- din so rarely gets openly angry, he just gets passive aggressive and grumpy. and that’s probably not the healthiest way to deal with things but I love him
- frog lady reacts so strongly to when din sends the ping when nothing else woke her up, I wonder if she can hear more frequencies than a human
Tumblr media
hello darkness my old frieeennnddd
Tumblr media
proof nr 1508 that din does not starve this baby you guys, he even has his own little tray just the right size for him! as it happens the baby simply seems to prefer eating things that are... still alive in some capacity. which, uh. maybe they can invest in some form of non-sentient crickets or something for him to hunt down and.... oh dear
Tumblr media
Look how they massacred my boy
By the way I finally managed to put into words why the Razor Crest -- and particularly the way it keeps getting beaten to hell and back and patched up again --  is so symbolically important and meaningful to me in this show in this post over here! it’s always a great relief to me when I can finally understand what the hell I’ve been going on about all this time and this was one of those lol
-  honestly if it weren’t for frog lady and (more importantly) the baby I think there’s a slight chance din would’ve gone ‘well I had a good-ish run of it for a while there’ and just let the ice claim him haha
- “Why don’t you come over here and give me a hand. Make yourself useful” This is the one time in the episode I think he crosses the line into just being a dick for a moment (but noticeably the baby isn’t just a little hurt at this reaction, he’s clearly surprised and confused, which means this really does not happen often. after the time mando’s been having recently I guess a moment’s snappishness is understandable haha. he does follow up right after with being much more responsive and attentive when the baby toddles away from him, so it feels like it’s going to be okay)
also the ‘boo-ap’ sound is there again when he’s trying to get din’s attention. just sayin’
when din comes over to see the footprints baby makes a declarative little meep like ‘see??? I did tell you!’ haha
- it is very funny that mando is using all his technology meant to track down dangerous bounties in the grungy depths of the criminal underworld... to find a naked lady just chillin’ in a hot spring
Tumblr media
cue the ‘father is evil?’ memes fsadfda. actually the funniest thing about this moment (apart from the fabulous finger acting) is that din actually snatches a few eggs out of the baby’s reach more subtly right before, and that baby only whines for ALL OF ONE SECOND before he goes to sniff around for other food possibilities fkadfhjkds. from my experience with human children he’s a lot less prone to tantrums. yodito doesn’t get mad, he gets even
- baby running towards din through the hatching spiderlings like ‘DAD I FUCKED UUUUUUP’, din’s little strangled ‘ngh’ sound as he picks the baby up and watches all the creepy crawlies come out... *chef kiss* impeccable
(that little ‘ngh’ and the soft shocked ‘ah ah AH!’s from when he goes flying at the beginning of the episode... pedro pascal and his voice work for this character gives me so much life. in some ways din has this sort of dignity and grace and in other ways he uh extremely doesn’t. he gets to be cool but also vulnerable in ways a lot of male main characters don’t and it’s probably why I love him so much)
Tumblr media
btw here is that moment when din moves to hold the baby tightly against him with both hands as the big spider appears, because it gets me right in the heart... it such an instinctive thing of holding on to the dearest thing you’ve got before something bad is about to happen
fdsafhsdakjlfhsdkjlhfsdajhf oh my god the baby is clutching din’s finger with his little hand during the chase!!!! 😭😭😭
Tumblr media
this FUCKING SHOW has just WEAPONIZED putting in small details everywhere to convey the love and tenderness and attachment felt by a little muppet doll even where only weirdos like me will frame by frame their way through the video to see it I am so MAD
- frog lady going ‘fuck this’ and bounding along is  e v e r y t h i n g
- din is an amazing shot, though, he doesn’t seem to miss a single one in this whole scene (then again there’s something to shoot at basically everywhere one can take aim so lol)
-
Tumblr media
baby hiding behind/half hugging din’s boot as he tries to get the doors closed hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I can’t breathhhhheeeee
honestly every single one of the baby’s proximity seeking behaviours in this ep has me on my knees
- it’s very unfair to play the heroic happy mando music like everything is going to be fine and then have a huge fuck-off spider drop down from the ceiling and break it off mid-tune, the mandalorian, you have trained me in certain ways and now do you betray me??? how can I trust again
- the camera work in the scene with the new republic guys gives such a good sense of the discomfort of being judged from on high by someone or something you can’t really see -- the glare of the lights blocking out everything in the shots from din’s pov makes it feel like a tense interrogation (the new republic dude who is actually dave filoni has such a look of fondness as he watches din tho it’s kind of sweet)
- ...oh no I think baby was actually considering munching on that dismembered spider leg YODITO NO JUST EAT YOUR KRAYT DRAGON BABY
- hngh this is a weird filler episode and it has my entire heart. I suspect we might get some episodes of a more stationary baby between active ones like this -- you can tell a little bit in this episode that especially having him running around fast is quite difficult to have look natural, they likely save that effort up for when it best serves the narrative

I did it! I made a rough floor plan of the parts of the umbrella academy that we get to see. no basement yet because it’s just two rooms, really; Pogo’s bedroom and the kitchen/dining room. Thought process and analysis from painstaikingly going through several episodes and rewatching the same 10 seconds of staircases below the cut. Also, for now I’ve only marked doors that were visible at some point, but there are most likely a lot more doors and walls in spaces we just never got to see.
First floor:
Tumblr media
Second floor:
Tumblr media
Third floor:
Tumblr media
entrance hall and living room were easy, we saw those rooms about a million times, i don’t think i need to explain them.
then we have the part with the children’s bedrooms. I know we all saw the big cut through the house while everyone is dancing, which places these rooms on the second floor and also directly next to entry hall. I firmly believe they just put the rooms together in a way that was convenient for them for the following reasons:
windows are a thing. no matter how hard i tried i could not give the rooms the windows that they have when putting them where they would be if allison’s and Luther’s rooms were where they showed them
the  red stairs on the first floor in that shot would end in luther’s room
also the red stairs are on the same floor as the bedrooms and only go up, not down
they fucked up the sides and switched Allison’s and Luther’s rooms
in s1e02 when vanya walks through the house. she goes through a hole in the wall on the second floor, on the plans i made it’s the ‘door’ in the bottom right corner. she ends up on the green stair case and walks up to five’s room. in the episode where klaus gets kidnapped, Diego enters the same green stairs the same way and then walks down to get to the bedrooms
the red stairs only go up, not down, which is a typical first floor thing
Theeeen i just had to watch and rewatch all the scenes with the bedrooms to figure out how they go together. again, biggest issue where the windows, there’s a lot of them in weird places; my solution was to add a lightwell behind the bathroom. another solution would be makind the hallway between the entry hall and the green stairs longer and adding a proper courtyard, maybe even THE courtyard. I decided against that because diego gets from the bedrooms back to the main hall really fucking fast when he’s running from Chacha and Hazel.
there’s a hallway that just goes somewhere, but we don’t know where, but it could be another staircase - based on the fact that diego comes down the green stairs and then walks around a few corners first instead of just emerging through the hole in the wall opposite of the bathroom that leads to the green stairs. when i noticed that hole and the stairs behind it i had a small aneurysm because i had placed the green stairs somewhere in the hallway next to the bathroom before. it is very much a possibilities that there’s two sets of green stairs, which would change everything, but we see a good chunk of that hallway ending in very dark doors in Diego’s fight with Hazel and Chacha. Also i was already two days into making this plan when i noticed that maybe there’s two very similar looking but not identical green staircases so i decided to say fuck it and just work under the assumption that there’s only one.
the one thing i sort of kept from the dancing scene is Grace’ second kitchen on the 1st floor. I assume that it is where i wrote it down based on the window and the direction it was facing in that shot as well as the fact that it’s supposedly right next to the green stairs.
on the second floor I put Reginald’s Office, the adjanctant living room and hallway we see in Allison’s flashback in ep1 and the tiny room and different hallway behind it where it is because while it could technically be anywhere in the whole block, 42 bedroom 19 bathroom hargreeves estate it looks too fucking similar to the entry hall and living room to be far away from that part of the houses imo. also whenever someone goes there or comes from there they get their through the 2nd floor part of the entry hall so it’s heavily implied to be on the 2nd floor. i figured out the placement by making sure that all the windows are on an outside wall and not hitting any established walls, stairs or lightwells. it’s not more than an educated guess, really, but it fit there rather well.
then we have five’s room in the attic. we can see that that’s where it is when Vanya looks for him in ep2(?). we can also see the green stairs again, as wel as enough windows to know which way it’s facing. considering that ben had to sleep somewhere and there’s no more doors downstairs i guess his room could be the one next to five’s.
I think that the spot in the attic where Allison likes to sit when she’s upset may be where i put it because if I’m upset i wouldn’t want to run through an enormous house, but walking up the red stairs twice to get there seems doable. the other thing that we know is in an attic is reginald’s bedroom and the surveillance room, because both have a roof pitch. while the surveillance room could arguably be anywhere in the multiple buildings reginald’s bedroom would fit beautifully over his office both for his convenience and because he has a protruding window in it just like his office does.
if you have any questions feel free to ask! I’ll try to answer them

Episode 4 Trailer Analysis
Okay so first off, because Tumblr has a maximum of 10 screenshots per post i’m only going to be able to show the images that I feel are most important to show with a visual reference, and then explain the other scenes purely with text (so you may need to rewatch the trailer to understand wtf i’m referring to at some points, my apologies for that).
I’m gonna do my damnedest to keep everything in order, so let’s begin.
(This turned out to be really long, so i’m hiding it under a spoiler bar - my apologies ^_^;)
1) The Beginning
Tumblr media
Okay, so in this picture we see Clem and AJ running from the boat which seems to have somewhat crashed into the dock after the explosion. Which makes sense given the proximity.
The reason I believe this image to be important is because it debunks the theory that any of the characters (at least Clem and AJ) end up falling overboard into the water after the explosion.
It seems that the episode is going to start with us directly after the chaos of episode 3 and we are going to need to QTE our asses out of the ship in Act 1 where we will be thrown into action right away.
You’ll notice that we can’t see Tenn, James (if he survived), ect with us during our escape. 2 people that most likely would be running out with us given that we were within the same location as each other during the explosion.
So I feel like they either were in front of us out of frame here, or they maybe did fall overboard and when we see them later on it’s because they’ve washed up on land.
Tumblr media
Some people believe this to be a bridge Clem is jumping over, but i’m personally skeptical about that.
If anything, I think this is a hole created on the ship after the explosion which we need to jump over to escape. The wooden flooring has been broken away by something that must have exploded, because it doesn’t look like a normal hole created by rotten wood throughout the years. Plus, if you look behind Clem, there is a wooden structure with panelling that seems similar to the walls within the ship.
Also, notice how tall the bridge must be after this scene when we get a bird’s eye view of Clem leaping over the hole and seeing the water beneath her.
If you look back to previous episodes as well as the map Marlon shows us in episode 1 (which I would provide here if not for the 10 screencap limit) you will notice that the only bodies of water other than the ocean/bigass river off the edge of the map, is smaller bodies of river or streams.
Any time we have seen a bridge in this game it’s been a small one above a stream of some kind (even the title screen for ep4 with Clem’s hat seems to be a small bridge like the one near the fishing shack).
To have a bridge this big, we would have to travelling far off to the left side of the map beyond the ship, and I can’t see any bridges in that direction given how big the body of water is there (or maybe Marlon is just shit at drawing water to scale lmao).
Also you can see land in the background that seems similar to the hills Clem, AJ, Willy and Louis/Violet were spying at the Delta from.
Tumblr media
Okay, so this one does seem to give more of a bridge vibe with the metal structures (reminds me of S2 Ep2), but i’m still going to assume it’s the ship for now since we haven’t really got any other reason to assume it’s a bridge beyond a bridge being a focus point in the title screen (which btw, I wouldn’t get too heavily focused on since the previous title screens haven’t been too literal either with their subject matter and have mostly been used to represent the episode in general - like ep3 being a view from a porthole in a boat to represent the Delta ship, ect).
Notice the reflection of the water is bright orange as well.
That’s not just a reflection of a setting sun or something, that’s a light source close to the water - something on fire.
And there’s no way a shit ton of walkers would be crowding the middle of the water unless they were drawn to a loud noise. Like they are determined creatures, but there has to be something big that happened in order to provoke them into water where they can barely even move.
Okay so more related to Act 1 which I can’t drop screenshots for (so you may need to watch the trailer again.)
Okay so this is the point where my huge wall of text from above may fall flat, and I could be 100% wrong depending on the context of this scene (In which case if I am, then i’m gonna do my best to forget this analysis ever happened after the episode drops lmao).
At the very beginning of the trailer we see Clem waking up from where it seems to be the dock instead of the actual boat itself.
This implies that the beginning of the episode actually happens OFF of the boat as opposed to on it like I mentioned above (which could also make sense given Clem was literally near the railing of the boat when the explosion happened).
BUT typical to the usual Twdg trailer fashion, we can’t 100% assume that’s what actually happened since the person making these trailers is insanely good at piecing stuff together in a way that fucks with your perception of events.
So it could mean practically anything. Here are a few basic theories:
1) Clem wakes up on the dock at the beginning of ep1 and then rushes back on the ship to find AJ or something. Because there has to be some reason her and AJ are running from the boat that close - because Clem definitely didn’t wake up that close to the boat as if you rewatch the beginning of the trailer, when Clem looks up to see the walker the ground isn’t wooden - it’s gravel. And if you look at my first screenshot you will see it’s the EXACT same terrain outside of the dock. Which means Clem is on the ground at the start of the dock.
So either Clem went BACK to the ship, or she and AJ already escaped from it which means:
2) Another explosion happens (either the boat or a grenade) and Clem gets knocked to the ground not long after her and AJ flee the ship. You’ll notice that Clem doesn’t “wake up” from the explosion as if she passed out and that the scene is shot in a way as if she just toppled over from impact and is now looking up directly after it and seeing the smoke.
What helps make this more credible is that the split second before the trailer cuts away from the scene of her and AJ running from the boat, you’ll notice that the explosion catches up to them at the exact moment Clem makes it from the dock to the gravel area of the ground (where we see her “wake up” at the beginning).
You can see Clem reaching for AJ but not exactly grabbing him in time as it happens - which is why AJ isn’t there at the beginning with her.
LILLY APPEARS!
Okay so obviously this is determinant depending on your choices from the previous ep (AKA, why i’m fucked this episode lmao). But as you can see in the trailer, we get a bit of a showdown between her and Clem.
I think it’s safe to assume that this takes place near the boat in Act 1 as well, however you can see AJ right next to Clem so it can’t be directly after the beginning of the trailer. It must be a good few minutes afterwards when we get AJ again.
Not really much else to say about it, besides the fact that episode 4 definitely seems to be throwing us into frantic QTE spamming at the very start for a change of pace.
Tumblr media
Our baby boys, Tenn and AJ have been caught within the sight of walkers and shit’s getting more real.
This in my opinion, seems to be happening a little bit more to the side of the dock (so close to the boat still, but maybe closer to where Willy went sailing with the supplies if you told him to take them).
I feel like this all happens AFTER the (potential) Lilly confrontation and when we are now just trying to high tail it out of the dock and away from the Delta.
AJ at some point seems to run up and stick with Tenn to protect him and it seems that the both of them only now just realize how many walkers are getting drawn to them.
At this point, this is probably where we as Clem have the moment of using the bow and arrow to shoot at them OR this is where Minnie steps in since her brother is in danger (which might lead to a potential Minnie redemption that i’m not entirely certain of given how a lot of the Delta still seem alive - so she might still be after us, especially if this is Act 1)
Tumblr media
You see a few shots of the Delta members still alive, but the thing I find interesting about this screenshot in particular is that it’s the area from which the docks/gravel lead to the woods.
This also seems to be from a similar location where the grenade gets thrown and Clem protects AJ as a barrel explodes.
I think this either might be closer to the end of Act 1 or at the very least, the end of the “boat area” as we are nearing the woods, where the rest of the trailer seems to be located.
So I think this entire scene is literally us escaping into the woods OR where we end up in that cave together which explains why we have Tenn with us (as well as James potentially). The cave would make most sense as well given that the only rocky area where a cave could work is near the dock where they have those big rocky cliffs.
Tumblr media
I think what backs up the possibility of the cave being close is that you can see behind the walkers some trees (so it’s in the woods most likely but I don’t think it’s too far from the docks).
The 3/4 of us most likely run into this cave to avoid the Delta, but the walkers sniff us out and end up following us in here as well.
So now we have Clem, AJ, Tenn and James(?) running through the tunnels of the cave most likely (assuming it IS near the cliffs, then there is a good chance that much like in real life there will be another passageway further into the cave that leads out somewhere.)
I’m not gonna post the picture of James since we’ve all seen it and I need to save screenshot space lol but the cut on his hand definitely isn’t anything like a walker bite or anything. I think everyone is theorising about it and honestly, I don’t really have anything new to add to it ^^;
BUT something not many people have mentioned yet is the scene of him dropping his mask to the ground.
I don’t know if I 100% buy him sacrificing himself by cutting his hand to attract the walkers to him or not, but if that IS what’s happening. The dropping of his walker mask would also be a nice way to subtly symbolise that happening as well.
Alternatively, maybe he drops it to the ground as we all sit in the cave and take a short break from all the madness.
I feel like this will be the moment where James goes off about AJ killing Lilly and where we might get a little bit of team drama going on - which then later gets cut off by the walkers entering the cave and us needing to escape.
Tumblr media
(ASDFGHJKL MY HEART)
Okay so this is very clearly set in the woods.
I think this is when we escape the cave and we end up travelling through the woods keeping a lookout for the Delta.
If you chose Louis, then we will bump into him now and as you can see from the animated clip, that it seems like AJ goes up and hugs him first and then Clem hugs him (ayyy ninja family hug).
I have a feeling that Louis might actually be alone here.
Given that Omar is probably still sorta injured, I wouldn’t be too surprised if Aasim took him back to the boarding school (which would also make sense since in Violet’s route we also have an injured Louis with them - so it would only make sense for Aasim and Omar to be gone at this point either way).
I have a feeling that when Louis, Aasim and Omar left the boat, Louis probably told them to go on ahead while he looked for Clem. Especially since in his route he seems really hesitant about Clem going off to save Lilly herself after they all escape from their cells. I can’t see him at this point in time just leaving her, regardless of how badass Clem is.
(Unless Aasim and Omar are just out of frame - but I doubt it).
Also, not that anyone probably doubted it but I intentionally took a screenshot before Clem hugs him just to show that this scene is definitely during Louis’s route since in the screencaps where Clem hugs him you can’t actually see Louis’s mouth (where he would be bleeding if it was Violet’s route).
Tumblr media
OKAY SO THIS IS OUT OF ORDER.
This scene should technically be near the top since it seems like the boat has sank even further at this point and we can see Clem and Violet near it.
Okay so, i’ve been seeing some people say they think this is Louis’s route because Clem isn’t wearing her badge Violet gave her (I can’t remember where it’s meant to be so I can’t really tell ^^:) but personally I still think it’s Violet’s route.
It would make sense for it to be Louis’s route if we assume the trailer is from 1 gameplay of the episode (since the wood’s scene is deffo Louis’s route), but I don’t know if I can see them not having at least one scene from a Violentine playthrough here. Especially since it’s the final trailer and how much the fans have wanted equal screentime between both characters.
In my opinion, I feel like Violet in this scene is just upset over everything that’s happened (she might not know if Minnie made it out since the explosion could have sent them flying in different areas) and Clem is comforting her.
I don’t think it’s to do with Violet distrusting Clem or anything like some people brought up.
I feel like if this was LouisRoute!Violet then she wouldn’t be as calm here with Clem, at least I think the body language would be different.
(I could easily be wrong though, i’m actually sure about this screenshot the least tbh)
The only question I have about this scene is that if it’s at the beginning, then where is Violet during the cave scene? does she just try to look for Minnie? I don’t know... I feel like there is a lot of ways this scene can be perceived both from the trailer clip and whatever the heck happens after it before we end up in that cave.
Tumblr media
This is definitely our McCarroll Ranch flashback.
Her hair is shorter than what it is in the present (and it’s not just a weird perspective, that ponytail is definitely short).
Also, notice that we don’t get to see her outfit much?
And we also get the return of the ominious red lighting from the nightmare she had in episode 2.
Tumblr media
Finally we get daylight! (look at the gaps where there is sunshine).
This is the morning after the shitstorm, and it seems that we end up in a barn given the hay and structure of the building (maybe James’?)
Yet again we get attacked by walkers as in another scene in the trailer we see Clem trying to block a door with walkers trying to break in, that’s also set in the daylight with interior similar to this screenshot.
ALSO, unrelated to this screenshot but we also have another small scene set during the morning where Clem and AJ look at eachother in fear/”Fuuuuck” which i’m assuming is what lead to them ending up in the barn.
Tumblr media
Okay so this is the winning shot of the trailer where everyone freaks out and thinks Clem is probably gonna die or something.
I’m gonna treat this screenshot with skepticism like I did with the other scene of her in episode 3′s trailer holding her hand where everyone thought she got bitten for some reason, because it looked so dramatic.
I’m not saying that it’s not something serious that’s gonna happen (especially since every trailer has a clip from the end/final act of the episode and we haven’t seen one for this yet which i’ve noticed). But i’m not going to assume it’s 100% major either since I doubt they would be this obvious with it.
What I will say however, is that wherever Clem is dangling off of, I genuinely can’t see AJ pulling her up to safety. Like for AJ - a 5 year old, to successfully pull up Clem is nearly “Season 2-Clem-kicking-down-the-solid-trailer-door-in-ep4″ levels of insane strength right there.
Clem is gonna fall and maybe pass out (maybe that’s how we get our Clem nightmare?) and we will need to find AJ again, most likely.
What’s worth noting however, is that it’s set during night time.
And given how time passes in these episodes i’m willing to be it can only happen either:
1) In act one where all the insane shit with the boat happens
2) In act 3 since it turns to daylight at some point for Act 2
-
ANYWAY THAT’S ALL I HAVE FOR NOW.
Sorry I took forever posting this, I got carried away.
(Just wait till episode 4 proves me completely wrong with everything lmao)

live blog rewatch Relevance
I’m so nervous or excited, Idk?? My hands are trembling, and I only heard Harold say “You are being watched. The government has a secret system. A machine that spies on you-”.
Oh, that’s actually it. I paused at the right moment I guess? A break in the opening to focus on the fact that finally, there is a glimpse at the work for the relevant numbers.
I’ve never noticed before that that flashback is about the mission that made Cole suspicious, and that we actually get to see and hear Dr. Aquino.
Oh my, Berlin. It’s weird to watch this when you’ve already been there and heard the people there speak, and it’s even weirder that agents of the US can simply threaten the police there without any consequences. But I guess the ISA handled everything with the German agencies and Shaw and Cole just had a nice vacation. Sort of.
Shaw, it’s Shaw!!! And her hair is curly. Later on, she only curls her hair for fancy missions, if I remember it right. She’s wearing a leather jacket and gloves. And very casually, she buys a cup of coffee at a booth that’s named “Kaffeeklatsch”, which can roughly be translated as the noun of “chatting and gossiping while drinking coffee and having cake”.
I love her boots. Sadly, she doesn’t wear them anymore later on. I was surprised when she wore boots with heels in s5 after she escaped (I only remember how she kicked the gun to Root in 6,741; tbh). I expected her to wear comfortable and useful shoes, like military boots.
Oh my god, that police officer glancing at her with a smile, though…
I wonder if police officers always go on patrol alone? Probably not anymore. And what language are the two guys speaking? I’m sure Shaw understands them. And her being socially awkward and smiling, she’s got no time for you, police officer, just let her have some fun.
I’m so envious of Shaw, she speaks so many languages, at least 4: English, German, Farsi, Spanish. Anyway, I’m so in awe. And her accent is interesting, I’ve never heard a native English speaker talk in German before.
I guess it’s very Team Machine like to simply knock out the people that are in the way? John would do it, Root as well, Lionel might, Elias Idk? Joss and Harold wouldn’t do it. But Shaw’s like “yeah someone’s probably gonna take care of that police officer I just knocked out”. But I guess Control or someone else from ISA dealt with that.
I never noticed how tall Cole is. I wonder what was going on in the apartment Cole accidentally put the camera in at first. He likes to think out aloud. And he can make Shaw crack a smile - he likes to joke a lot, too.
I love Shaw with a backpack. Later, she’s never got any bag. It just looks professional, and she’s cute and petite in that big coat and with those boots.
She’s so comfortable around Cole, it’s so nice to watch. She roles her eyes and shakes her head at him, like she does with Root. Only that Cole doesn’t bother her like Root does.
Alright, she definitely speaks their language. Nice blending in the role of the innocent tourist back then, Shaw. Because if she wants, Shaw can play pretend or socialize quite well.
I love this scene. And there’s so much focus on the drinks in this apartment - orange juice, banana juice. And the noise of the football game on TV vs. Shaw’s completely focused action. Her calm breath, amplified through the gas mask. And she stays totally calm in the threatening situation when she discoveres the open window, and she doesn’t need to tell Cole because he knows her well enough to notice. And when he starts to panic, she calms him down. They are such a good team, damn it. And Shaw completely trusts him. .
Oh, Cole calls her Sam. Root does it only once. But if I remember it right, Shaw’s first name wasn’t really clear at first? Like, on my BluRays she’s called Sam (or Samantha?) Shaw in the credits at first.
It’s so sweet how he asks her if she’s alright when Shaw probably didn’t feel any emotion, maybe some adrenaline and excitement from the dangerous situation. Cole, however, was very moved by what happened. But he knows how to handle Shaw’s response, I love how they get along so well.
I wonder if Shaw always carries that knife around with her. Could’ve been useful in later episodes.
“I’ll see you when I see you.” And Shaw seems to enjoy playing with bombs, though?
Shaw is quite suspicious when it comes to Wilson. And she's just like "yeah the best option was to blow that place up". I wonder, did she make sure there were no civilians in the building or close to it?
She seems to enjoy coffee while observing their numbers. And she's getting bored already.
Hi there John, Shaw has already spotted you.
"Forgot your gas mask, Shaw". Can I just say that I really like Cole? He'd probably laugh over Shaw's "Only the sink didn't fit in" she said to Joss and support her crush on Joss.
Oh but John realized Shaw noticed him. Just like the siblings they are.
Shaw is wearing all three of her piercing. Nice. She doesn't wear them often later on, does she?
So Cole actually is the nerd who stays inside all the time. Shaw smiles, oh my. Btw I like her fuzzy hood?
Oh The Machine is... (I don't remember the word. It's the word Root and Harold use in s5 ep2 where Root says "Don't you think it's you that's...?")
Holy shit, I think it’s “glitch”? Is this the right word?
Oh Shaw, you've got so much compassion for Cole. Or maybe she asks if anything is wrong because an issue that keeps Cole's mind distracted can be dangerous for the mission. I think it's both?
Their noses are red, it must be cold. Cole’s face displays all his emotion, it’s an open book - unlike John’s face which doesn’t provide much insight on his state of mind, only John’s eyes do, and I’m very impressed by Jim’s acting, tbh.
So Shaw thinks a few seconds about Cole's question. I think she probably has wondered where Research gets the numbers but doesn't question it.
Now she makes Cole feel guilty? Or am I misinterpreting the tone of her voice? And then she praises him. So I think she tries to express that she trusts him but disagrees with his question, with the thought he had, even. Shaw wouldn't question her work because there's no proof anything went wrong, and she probably didn't care (and couldn't have cared any less) about that guy Aquino acting confused.
Ok so Wilson doesn’t seem to be a nice guy, considering how Shaw refers to him. And Cole looks so guilty, so guilty of having done something that could put Shaw’s career at risk. He has got a big heart, I think.
“We still have a job to do, remember” - it says so much about Shaw, how she’s a person that expresses herself through actions, how she’s in for it because she can do the job, only the job, not the paperwork or socializing or whatever comes with being an agent of the ISA. And the job is more important than Cole possibly having brought up a shit storm. She only focuses on the job first, everything else can wait.
I like Cole’s clothing style.
Oh god, Harold trying to warn them but it’s too late, too late.
Cole’s first instinct was to protect Shaw, not to protect himself, and he didn’t even know what the threat would be, whether they’d get shot at or a team of agents would charge the room or the place would get blown up, like, he didn’t know what to expect, meanwhile Shaw went to the window to figure it out, to maybe see a clue outside because she didn’t read the message Harold sent, but Cole did, and he just decided to throw himself in front of Shaw to protect her, no matter what might hit them.
It’s impressive how completely calm Shaw stays while they’re under attack, firing right back while lying on the floor, covering her face from the flash grenade, firing right back again.
While watching for the first time, I thought Shaw’s “uh” while saying “We’re gonna call Control and uh, we’re gonna get you some help” was because she was panicking. But now I don’t think so anymore. I think she just doesn’t know what to say because she’s probably already realized that Cole won’t make it and that there is no help for him anymore, so she pauses before saying it.
My god, her “Always trying to be the hero, huh” sounds so distracted, like, she’s probably trying to figure a way out of this situation in her mind, checks out the room, listens for warning signs of more approaching assets. But when Cole says “Just yours”, it actually gets to her. She stops what she’s doing, startled. Shaw reacts like she reacts to some things Root says (or does), and Cole found the right words, words Shaw can understand and process, to tell her she means a lot to him, and Shaw gets his message. Like, usually she’d be annoyed or confused by someone telling they like her because Shaw just can’t relate; and she doesn’t like Cole the way he likes her and she can’t emphasize/relate to his feelings for her, but he expresses them in a way Shaw can comprehend. I wish we had seen more about Cole’s and Shaw’s dynamic.
But as soon as Cole has lost consciousness, Shaw concentrates on the threat again, completely calm and focused.
Hey John. Your vest is gonna get shot.
Ok so Shaw actually listens to John. She hears everything he says, including that he wants to help her. She might even recognize him from the street, maybe senses that he’s different from the ones trying to kill her. But she fires at him, anyway, after hearing him out, because she finds that she can’t trust anyone right now and is better off by herself.
This jump out of the window impresses me so much. Like, did Shaw and Cole observe the place before heading in or did Shaw spot the dumpster while standing at the window in those brief moments before they were under attack?
Holy shit the soundtrack of the shooting between Shaw and Wilson is awesome.
I love that it’s cold and that their breaths are visible as clouds, not only as heaving of the chests and sounds of panting, it makes everything better, Idk? And the street lights add to this, too.
I screamed because omg Root!!!! I totally forgot while freaking out about Shaw omg!!
So if Root has worked there for 2 weeks or months (I don’t remember) she must have had access to the files of all ISA agents. And from all of them, she was impressed by Shaw. And Root is usually not impressed by humans, only laughs at them or makes fun about them. And if she’s researched about Shaw for sometime, she must’ve known Shaw was going to be put down, if she had bugged the office for quite a while. Did she believe Shaw might make it out alive (she probably was like “So, will this interesting human make it out alive or not in this game?), did Root expect The Machine to step in? She must’ve been quite pleases to hear that Shaw is still alive and might have valuable information.
Let’s acknowledge that Shaw abducted someone while she only moved a few inches and was suffering from blood loss and a bullet in her abdomen. I wonder if she knew Louis? How else would she have gotten in contact with him that night? She probably knows a few people who can provide drugs, considering that substance abuse can be comorbid with ASPD, and Shaw also enjoys to drink, so she might have some experience with drugs.
Shaw can easily talk to Louis and pretend, unlike her awkward behavior towards the German policeman. So Shaw only makes an effort to socialize if she actually wants to gain something. The police officer was only in the way but Louis is valuable. Or she only pretended to be the unsure tourist in Berlin, I’m not really sure.
I wonder if Louis just agreed to do what Shaw wants because he was so impressed by her. Like, having his legs dangled out of the car window for the whole time, his face pressed into the seat while Shaw was driving? But he must have told her where to drive, so they probably had a chat. Maybe she stopped in between to teach him the rules.
Shaw is such a natural leader. If she wasn’t annoyed and bored by people she’d probably be an instructor of some sorts. I bet she teaches Joey, Logan and Harper some things. And she might have taught Root hand to and combat and how to properly use a gun.
I love how Shaw bursts in and is like “Ever had a staring contest with a fish?”, and after Louis friend’s like “Your gut shot, you dead”, she’s like “You better hope not, ‘cause if I’m starting to lose consciousness, I’m shooting you first”, while staring him dead into the eyes. Shaw, the little fish.
I bow down before Shaw, pulling a hollow point out of her gut using a mirror to see, which means she has to operate back-to-front, after having lost a lot of blood while not having taken any painkillers, just letting out two groans. No tears, no sobbing.
“Figured I was better at killing people than fixing them”. Alright, Shaw was a very good doctor, considering her medical skills, only her social skills lacked - which are, apparently, demanded by a vast majority of society. So Shaw turned away from what was denied to her and focused on the opposite because she wasn’t wanted, even though she enjoyed medical practice and saving people. Then she went to the marines, found she was good at killing people, and enjoyed that job, as well. And then she became an asset of the ISA, which combines saving and killing people.
It surprises me that her head didn’t sink onto the table while she was unconscious.
The way Shaw stares at Louis’s... boss, Idk? She looks so tired because she just woke up, at the same time there is written BORED across her face, and she’s probably just tired of all of this (her employers trying to kill her and having killed the one person she cared about, having a bullet hole in her abdomen and having to put up with some wannabe badasses), looking at Louis’s boss like “you are the least thing I need right now, fuck off, I’m busy”.
I’m just glad they don’t sexually objectify Shaw, sitting there in her tanktop and messy hair, all sweaty. She simply gives off the bamf vibe and no one actually wants to fuck with her.
That twitch of her lip when she says “Not really”, after being asked if she’s some kind of badass. I wonder how many people Shaw has told that she’s got a personality disorder. Her chief of medicine didn’t know at first and I don’t know if you have to state your mental condition when applying as a soldier? Her PD had been in the way to save people as a doctor but it is beneficial when it comes to torturing and killing. And here, Shaw uses it as a weapon to distract her opponents long enough to get her second gun.
They don’t take her seriously, can’t relate to her, and Shaw doesn’t give a single fuck about them, she can’t relate to them, too, but she knows how people have approached her in the past, considering her PD; and it might even excite her, to play with them, Idk, but I guess she’s just bothered by them because they waste her time.
And Shaw simply states that she’s got an “Axis II Personality Disorder” (meaning on the Axis II she hasn’t got an intellectual disability but a PD (x)). She doesn’t state the PD she’s got. Later, she refers to herself and is referred to by others a a sociopath, which is included in Antisocial Personality Disorder (x, x). But only in season 4 episode 21, Samaritan lists Shaw’s PD as ASPD. So in Relevance, it’s not clear what PD Shaw has, and only after rewatching the episode multiple times, I’ve noticed Shaw’s personality traits and understood them properly and realized that Shaw was already written and played so well (bless Sarah Shahi, I always get sad when Amy Acker is praised for her performance as Root, but Sarah did such an amazing job, too). Or maybe now that I know Shaw’s personality well, I begin to analyze her more and interpret some things as traits of her PD, Idk.
Shaw just sprawling on the couch next to the dude she just shot, enjoying a bottle of beer (which she opens with her bare hand???). I love it. Tbh, she probably had more than one beer.
Hersh, I really like him. And he knows Shaw so well, knows she wants revenge and information about the Aquino case. And his explanation: “She’s multitasking”, it’s not some sexist “women are multitasking, so they should be able to do x and y”, it’s a metaphor for Shaw’s many talents, and Shaw “doing both” is so fundamental for her character. She does the thing she thinks is right but also does the thing that feels right, and she can do both at the same time, while many people struggle with “am I going to do what’s right or what feels good?”.
Both, Hersh and Shaw, say that Shaw was hired because of her PD, because of her limited range of emotions, because she is the perfect killer. She was refused as a doctor for being who she is, but the ISA hired her. Of course, she wasn’t only hired for her PD, Hersh talks about her being hired for being able to multitask (to get information about the Aquino case and get revenge). Shaw was hired because of her skills, because of who she is, because of how she operates.
Uh, Root leaving to slip into the role of Veronica. I wonder what she would’ve done, if she had to stay in the office for that time. She would’ve found an excuse to get out to squeeze some information out of Veronica and Shaw, I’m sure.
Oh! Two beer bottles on the drawer. So Shaw had a couple of beers.
Is she using Cole’s phone or her own to call Veronica? It might be safer to use the landline of the apartment, I think? And is it Veronica who’s answering or is it already Root? I’m not sure.
Ok, it probably was her own phone, since she’s calling Wilson now.
Om my, I had forgotten that Shaw and Root meet for the first time in Relevance. This is where everything started.
Ok, I think it was Root on the phone when Shaw called Veronica. The voice fits.
Or maybe it wasn’t Root because Veronica is in the bathtub, and she had to get to the place where she meets Shaw. That means Root tapped Veronica’s phone when Shaw called and overheard the conversation, and Root has already adjusted her own voice to sound like Veronica’s. Did Root even get some sleep that night???
And that meeting place, Shaw came up with it, so does the apartment belong to her or is it a usual meeting place because Veronica had access?
Root didn’t even have to play Veronica so well because Shaw doesn’t know Veronica, it would’ve been enough to have all the information, but Root probably saw through Veronica easily and plays her easily. And she contains her excitement about meeting Shaw so very well.
Root calls her Sam, so I guess Shaw’s first name hadn’t really been agreed on? Cole also called her Sam, so would he have called her Sam towards Veronica?
Bless Amy and her chemistry with Sarah, and how she took a deep breath and her eyes widened while Shaw took off her jacket. Like, this was the beginning of the relationship between Root and Shaw.
Alright, Veronica calls Cole “Mike”, so she might like to use abbreviation of names.
Btw, Cole and Veronica probably were friends, and Shaw’s just like “he was killed” in her low empathy way. And it’s not that Cole’s death didn’t touch Shaw, it just affected her differently than it would affect Veronica. And Root just plays a touched Veronica, even though she doesn’t care about him at all, and it’s so interesting to see this display of emotions, like: Root (not affected by Cole’s death) playing Veronica (probably very affected by Cole’s death) and Shaw (affected by Cole’s death but not in the way the average person would be affected).
I wonder if Shaw associates Root with Cole because she has laid eyes on Root for the first time while Root pretended to be Veronica.
Nice how Root offers information to Shaw while posing her questions at the same time.
Shaw is still wearing the clothes she wore when she got shot. Did she shower at the place of Louis’s friend, maybe even washed her clothes?
Ok, recently, I’ve found out that what Root is using here (and on Denton Weeks) is not a taser but a stun gun.
So, did Root leave Veronica in a way that allows her to make noises on purpose or did Veronica just wake up earlier from unconsciousness? Actually, it’d be so like Root to make Shaw turn her back to her to stun her, so Root might have done it on purpose. She obviously must have been aware that she only can stun Shaw when she is distracted, and that Root can’t compete with Shaw’s physical skills.
Root keeps pretending she doesn’t hear the noises in the bathroom but still looks into that direction when Shaw gets up. Very risky, Root.
Btw, nor a taser nor a stun gun can make someone lose consciousness, they mainly cause pain.
Root dragged Shaw across the floor and probably heaved her onto that chair. This must have taken quite some time, considering that Root is not very physically strong and that Shaw might weigh much, even though she is not very tall, because of her muscles mass. The disorientating effects of a stun gun don’t last too long, so Root probably had to stun Shaw more than once to make sure Shaw wasn’t able to turn on her.
God, how Root’s mask just drops as soon as she’s stunned Shaw, tbh. Bam, there’s Root. No Veronica anymore, and Root had completely hidden, maybe even suppressed herself, while pretending to be Veronica. And I think Root just actually turns into those characters, she can see so well through people, can empathize with them so well, that she can turn into them.
And Root smiles all the time. Her voice is so full of emotion (like when she talks about Veronica and says “but she didn’t know anything”, she sounds slightly disappointed and sad but says it in a sort of sarcastic way, Idk, and she’s a bit like an excited child). It’s amazing. (Actually, on an emotional level, Cole and Root might be really similar, even though Root’s emotions are probably more of a mess and like a rollercoaster).
Btw, Shaw being stunned, probably multiple times, sure wasn’t fun, considering she had a fresh shot wound, as well.
So, Root must have zip tied Shaw pretty tight to that chair since it’s... Idk how to express it. Like, if Shaw just moved and wiggled her arms, the zip tie would just slip off the armrest and free Shaw’s arms from being tied to the chair. And the effects of the stun gun don’t last anymore. But Shaw stays still. Maybe she wants to know what Root has to say, or she’s impressed because Root managed to get close to her and stun her. Or her shot wound is not doing well so Shaw decided to stay in a sitting position.
And Root is so disappointed in Shaw, who thought Research’s information come from torture. I think Shaw is impressed by Root and really pissed, Idk? And then Root is like I’m gonna torture you, and Shaw is like awesome at first she tricks me, then stuns me, now tortures me, nice. (Maybe, Idk?)
And then Root kneels down in front of her to unzip her jacket. Like, most people would bend down to the person they are going to torture to assure dominance and cause fear by standing tall over them. But Root kneels down, is on eye level with Shaw, leans close, props her arms on Shaw’s knees, and has fun while doing all of this. Shaw easily could have freed her hands and hurt Root’s abdomen or neck, since they are close to Shaw because Root is not standing. And Root kneeling also makes her more vulnerable because she can’t quickly escape, she would have to stand up first. But I think she was interested in Root and chose to wait a bit longer.
So, Root apparently is a person who likes touching and being close to people (especially when it comes to Shaw). But I think Root might not like to be touched by others? Only when she closes the distance herself and can give off dominance, or when she feels comfortable around the person doing it.
Root is so eager to see how Shaw reacts to her torturing her, and then Shaw is like just do it, I love it; and this is when Root realizes that she actually likes a personality trait of Shaw, not just her skills. She even says “just when we started to connect”.
And then she just leaves Shaw. Root obviously knows that Shaw can handle herself.
I think when Shaw notices that the agents don’t see her as an immediate threat, she also realizes that they haven’t noticed that she can easily free her hands because of how the armrests are built. And she lets them get close to get a weapon.
Hi John.
Ok, there’s blood on Shaw’s wrist and hand, so Root must have zip tied her very very tight.
John’s “I’m a really nice person” comes across in a sarcastic way, because his face and voice are always calm. But he probably didn’t know what else to say, like, there is no reason for Shaw to not kill him if she wanted to. So he just says the truth - that he is a nice person. And this might be the only time that John actually admits that is very kind and caring. He can be very rude to people to avoid emotional attachment or empathy, but he can also be so very kind, but never comes across like it at first.
But Shaw trusts him.
Funny how aconitine was used two times on Shaw, and both times, John basically saved her. I wonder if Shaw’s number came up multiple times? Together with Cole’s number, before meeting Root, before meeting the Special Counsel?
Can I just note that Shaw is such a good listener? Like, her PD gives her a hard time connecting to people, they might bore or bother her, but Shaw always listens to what people have to say. She listened to John before shooting at him, she listened to Root before freeing herself, she listened to Harold explaining, she listens to Root in later episodes. And I think it’s a skill Shaw had to learn at first, because she might be impulsive, careless, easily bored or annoyed because of her PD, so it probably took a lot of work to train herself to listen to people until they’re done talking even though it’s not obvious at first that she might gain any benefit from the person talking.
And now Shaw is socially awkward again, “thanks but no thanks”, and I think it’s because Harold arose her interest and now she tries to “fit in” towards him, Idk.
But when meeting with the Special Counsel, Shaw’s social skills are in point. She looks so good, so strong, so determined. And the Special Counsel seems to be someone who smiles a lot? He smiled at Root, now at Shaw. He can probably talk very good and in a quite convincing way? He’s so surprised by Shaw’s “I do (understand)”, even though Hersh told him Shaw would do this.
I wonder if Harold’s conversation with Shaw had any impact on Shaw still wanting to protect the program? It might have reinforced her, since Harold said they work for the same entity.
Shaw walking out there while Future Starts Slow plays - I’ve got no words for how awesome this is. Only that they censor the “fuck” in “you can holler, you can wail, you can swing, you can flail, you can fuck like a broken sail” takes some awesomeness away. Shaw probably uses fuck a lot, tbh.
And she let her hair down. Her hair is down in Berlin while observing the number, afterwards it’s always tied up. Maybe it’s down when she feels relaxed?
“If I ever give you up my heart will surely fail”. It fits perfectly for Cole protecting Shaw, Shaw revenging Cole, John and Harold helping the numbers, The Machine giving out the numbers. Like, if The Machine wouldn’t provide numbers anymore her purpose of living wouldn’t exist anymore, her metaphoric heart would fail, Idk?
Oh my god, Hersh tells Shaw that she is good, that she’s a good operator, he reassures her that she is good the way she is, while her chief of medicine turned on her and her career because of exactly this, because of Shaw being herself, she was denied doing what she enjoyed and was good at because she wasn’t “good enough”, because her social skills weren’t good enough, and Hersh reassures her that she is, right before killing her.
Did Shaw expect it? She might have, she knew she was gonna be put down. But she had protected the program and revenged Cole, she was satisfied right now, so she didn’t prepare to escape. Or she knew they’d sent Hersh after her, and that she had not much of a chance to get away from him. Or she was curious if John and Harold would save her again?
I just love how we get to see Joss, Lionel, Leon and Bear in this episode, even though it is mainly about Shaw. It’s such a good episode.
Alright, I just looked aconitin up. It’s already toxic when just touching the plant. At first, it has an exciting effect, then it paralyzes the nerve endings. Death occurs because of respiratory paralysis. The lethal dose for humans is 1-10 mg/kg. The symptoms occur after just a few minutes: paresthesia, sweating, dropping of the body's temperature, nausea, vomiting, cramps, diarrhea, until respiratory paralysis. If a dose is given that is way higher than a lethal dose, one dies of a heart attack. Counter measures for cardiac arrest or shock might be necessary, including CPR, ventilation, injection of atropine. If the poison was taken in orally, vomiting can be provoked or a gastrolavage can be done. (x)
Ok, so it’s obvious that an ambulance must have been there right away, and someone with medical skills must have done CPR and the likes mentioned above and injected atropin immediately to save Shaw. It’s not shown in the episode, and it takes too much time until Shaw receives the atropine in the episode, I think?.
My headcanon is that John and Harold asked for the aid of more former numbers than just Joss and Leon, like Dr. Megan Tilman or Dr. Madeleine Enright, who might also have instructed Leon on how to use the atropine.
John’s smile, he really likes Shaw and is so impressed.
Shaw probably didn’t call them a taxi.
