Summary:

Kurt really had to stop crushing on straight guys.

When Sam - the barista at his favourite cafe - offered to show him around New York Kurt jumped at the chance to spend more time with him. Even if, as he fell in love with New York, he also started to fall for Sam. Even all of the blind dates in the world couldn't take his mind off of him.

Extract from Chapter 2:

“Kurt!” Kurt rolled his eyes as Rachel’s loud voice reverberated around the crowded SoHo cafe they met in every Sunday for Brunch. He’d only just set foot inside the establishment, and he was already the centre of attention as Rachel projected her greetings across the din of the room. “How are you? How was the date with Blaine? You simply have to tell me everything.” “I hate you.” Kurt greeted her as he finally got to their usual table, leaning down to kiss her on the cheek, offering a smile to Finn sitting next to her - who, as usual, already had his mouth full of waffle. His step-brother had no regard for etiquette. Rachel looked affronted, mouth open comically, as Kurt sat down across from them on the four seater table, the chair next to him perpetually empty. “All he talked about was Jesse St. James.” Kurt told her, “You have to stop setting me up with people who worship the ground he walks on, Rachel.” “I’m sure it wasn’t that bad.” Rachel defended herself, “And of course he was talking about Jesse th-” “‘-the show is going to revolutionise musicals as we know them!’” Kurt quoted along with her, having heard her say it multiple times before, and she huffed out a sound of annoyance. “Yes, well, if you’d auditioned like I’d told you to, you’d think the same! You need to stop wishing to be on Broadway and start working towards it! You didn’t come to New York to work at the Spotlight Diner, Kurt, or Callbacks. I know it’s not an easy road to get there but I believe in you. I just wish you’d believe in yourself.” “When would I have had the time to audition, Rachel!” Kurt shot back, “I barely have time to go on these ridiculous dates you insist on setting me up on.” “New York is meant to be explored with someone you love, Kurt!” Rachel said. This was a sentiment she expressed often, usually while gazing soppily at Finn. “Seriously, Rachel. I think he was literally in love with St. James. And I mean literally in the literal sense.” Kurt told her. “And when he wasn’t talking about St. James he was ranting about homophobia and practically crying about how his daddy didn’t love him.” Kurt was being mean now, he realised, his bitchiness on full display. He was exaggerating, but he was truly annoyed at Rachel and her lack of ability to matchmake. He was getting frustrated by his lack of a love life. He wanted the grand sweeping gestures he saw in musicals. The lingering looks. The butterflies. The fireworks. He was 24 years old and he’d never had a long term relationship. He felt like he was running out of time...

Counting On Season 8 Episode 12: Josiah & Lauren’s Prank-less Wedding?

Josiah & Lauren finally tie the knot, and we meet Abbie officially. For the blogspot version, click HERE

The episode opens about a week out from the wedding, and Josiah & Lauren talk about what they love about each other- Josiah says she is there for him, Lauren says everything but especially his “leadership quality”. Lauren says they’re looking forward to the kiss and driving away just us. At Lauren’s house, Josiah & Lauren are writing 52 reasons why they love each other to read one a week for the first year. Josiah says his were more to the point. Josiah says it is a healthy exercise for newlyweds. Josiah says they are trying to get a lot of sleep before the wedding since it will be a busy time and then they get to spend their lives together.

In San Antonio, Jeremy and Jinger are going to a birth class. They talk to their midwife about what is to come. In a talking head, Jessa says it is a daunting task and she feels for each expecting mom. Jinger says she wants her mom there for her experience and her support. Jinger says long labors are common in her family so she is expecting one. The midwife goes all out to mime a contraction and Jeremy looks confused. Jeremy asks what he should do and he tries to always ask her what she needs and what he should do thorough their marriage. The midwife has them hold ice in their hand for a timed out contraction. The producers have the other couples do that in talking heads. Jessa says that a contraction is so much worse. Ben gets to put them down and Jessa says “Now imagine holding them for two days” Ben: “that sounds like some kind of torture” Jessa: “that’s called labor.” Back at the class, they practice different positions-slow dancing and the other dads- Ben and Austin-give advice which is basically just you everything you can to be there for her. Jinger says while “slow dancing” she forgot she was holding ice and the midwife is impressed. Jeremy says they do feel more prepared after the class.

At the Swanson house, the Swanson siblings are preparing for a tea party wedding shower hosted by Lily. They are preparing different finger foods and setting the table. Dwain is so impressed with the party. Lily loves tea parties and she is excited. Lily has hats for everyone which everyone thinks are a fun touch. Ben says it is feeling like a Jane Austin novel. Joe says guys are only into tea parties for the sake of their significant other. Lily gives a little tea party etiquette class and they ask the Duggars about them- they do ok-and then they sit to eat. JB asks Dwain about officiating and he says he is excited. They are all looking forward to the big day. Josiah says it was nice to have a day away from the chaos.

Now, we are two days out from the wedding and it is time for Ms. Cindy for begin her decorating process. Siblings and volunteers are there working on set up. The siblings joke about the weddings are the places were relationship bloom. They also tease that there is a budding romance already at the wedding. Cindy is talking about the initial banners and it sounds slightly inappropriate-a lot of Ds and Vs. Joy and Austin talk about last time at this venue they weren’t even courting and now they’re back with a son.

The Duggar boys are preparing to trash the car at the grocery store. They get sticky notes, cat litter, while talking about how Josiah is the big prankster of the family. They show the prank at Joe & Kendra’s wedding and Kendra says this is well deserved. The guys get sardines. Josiah has two back up get away cars to prepare for this. The guys are excited and they check out excited about their prank.

It is about 24 hours out from the wedding and the decor team is back at their work. Ms Cindy reminds everyone to keep the decor a surprise. The wedding cake maker is hard at work in another kitchen since the JBU kitchen is occupied. They make 1,000 strawberry shortcake cupcakes- 200 gluten free and 800 regular. The heart shaped cake will also be gluten free. The cupcake ladies are hard at work and are worried about the eventual transport of the cupcakes to the venue but they hope it will work out.

Back at the venue, the decor team is hard at work putting the flowers into place. Ms. Cindy says she is a perfectionist when it comes to design.

It is time for Josiah and Lauren to see the church decor. Ms. Cindy is excited to show them the decor. Lauren says she really nailed it and everything was amazing. Ms. Cindy tries to begin rehearsal and it hits Lily and she starts crying. Lauren starts crying too. After a moment, the wedding party takes their places, and Dwain tries to get everyone to promise there would be no pranks. The Duggar siblings immediately see this as an injustice but Dwain limits it to the sanctuary only so the guys see this as the car trashing being fine. Joe doesn’t raise his hand and promise (which, fair, look at what he did at Joe’s wedding!). They go through the rehearsal, and both Lauren & Josiah are ready to be married.

The next morning, Josiah, Lauren and some siblings arrive at the venue. Lauren says “I get to lay a big one on you today.” They open one of the 52 reasons that morning. Lauren goes first and Josiah wrote “you push me to think outside the box.” Then Josiah picks one, and Lauren wrote “I remember the time before you asked me to marry you, you were so calm and had the sweetest smile. The tears in your eyes and the sunset at your back-you may not think it but you are romantic.” They want to kiss so badly and they are looking forward to the other 51 reasons. Joy greets Josiah in the hallway and she is excited for him. Joy says she has a different bond with all her siblings and she does get emotional for each one. There is a moment where they can’t find Dwain’s suit but they do. Lauren is getting ready with just her mom (this is actually sweet!) and they talk about how they’re doing. Lauren says she is not nervous, and her mom says she was nervous but she was grateful that Dwain is her rock and she knew it was the right thing.

The cakemaker is back, and they have decided to ice and decorate at the venue so they are cleaning up and beginning their move. There are a few cake board pieces missing and the baker is stressed.

Meanwhile, Joe and Josiah are ready and waiting and they discuss the kiss. Josiah mentions practicing on his hand. Lauren says it is the first time she’s kissed a boy. Josiah says this is the first day he gets to kiss a girl on the lips. Lauren’s mom says there will be fireworks in the chapel.

outside the venue, the guys are wrapping a very old car that doesn’t run to surprise them. For the new car, they cover it in post it notes and stunk it up on the inside.

Inside, Lauren is ready and Lily gets to see her. They practice arranging the dress and then make their way to the location of the first look. All the bridesmaids get to see her and gush over her. They enter the chapel and Lauren walks down the aisle to meet Josiah. They embrace and he says she looks amazing. They want to kiss so badly. Josiah says he likes the dress and gives her her bouquet. Josiah says this is really happening and her dress looked really good on her. They talk about how they love each other while Lauren’s family watches them. The couple prays together and Lauren says she could kiss him now.

In the reception venue, things are coming together. They fix the cake board situation and begin setting up and icing the cake. The cake maker is impressed with how everything came together and the wedding party begins making their way to their places. Austin gives a little talk and the groomsmen pray together before the ceremony.

Josiah walks the mothers to their seats. and then the bridesmaids make their way down the aisle, followed by the flower girls and then the music changes, the crowd stands and Lauren and her father make their way down the aisle. Lauren says she was in her own world with her dad and Josiah. Josiah wipes his eyes as she walks to him. Lauren says “Y’all are next!” to John and Abbie as she walks by. Lauren reads a few words to her father at the end of the aisle saying he was hero and saying that she will always be his little girl. They all take their places and Dwain begins the ceremony. Dwain says she knows Josiah is the one because God revealed it to her; Josiah said it is because Lauren is like his mom. Dwain talks about the weight of the covenant, and expressing his wish for children. They then share their vows, and Josiah says it felt like the two of them in the room and Lauren talks about the image of her dad watching her say her vows. Next, they exchange rings and then light a unity candle and then pray together. They go back to the center of the stage, Dwain blesses them and then pronounces them husband and wife. Finally, Josiah can kiss his bride. They kiss, he wipes his mouth off after and Dwain jokes about it being not bad for a first kiss. They talk about their first kiss being fireworks, walk down the steps, kiss again and Josiah picks her up and carry her down the aisle.

The party moves to the reception, and Josiah and Lauren arrive with huge smiles awn their face. They keep kissing and make their way to the stage to talk about the gluten free cake. Jessa says it was her favorite wedding. They cut the cake, and then feed each other a bite of the cake. There was a little playfulness and Lauren gets Josiah first. They laugh and kiss again. The producers ask John who will be next to get married and show a few shots of John and Abbie together and then John introduces Abbie to the camera. Abbie says she loves John, she is a nurse who works with geriatrics and she loves her family. John says his family always says he would surprise them with a girlfriend so he did. The family was shocked when he introduced them but they’re excited. John says they had a quick pre-courtship but when you know it’s the right one, you know. The family is excited for Jinger & Jeremy’s baby, they’re be a wedding, Gideon will walk and so will Garrett, potty training Spurgeon, a lot more grandkids and nieces and nephews, maybe a honeymoon baby.

Lauren and Josiah leave the wedding-people are pelting them with lavender seeds- and try to get into a car- and Josiah unwraps it to find out it was an old junk car. They look for the actual car and then they drive it up covered in post it notes. Josiah and Lauren laugh and carries Lauren to the car. They kiss again and drive away from the venue. They look forward to serving together, slowing down and spending time together. They drive away together. There is one more surprise for them- Justin is hiding in the trunk. Josiah throws him out and they finally are really on their way.

When in Hong Kong

It was just last year when we decided to get ourselves a passport because one of my travel goals for 2017 is to visit a foreign country. Hong Kong is not a bad idea at all. It is actually one of the great destination for a first out-of-the-country trip.

Since many of my friends are asking me info about this travel, I will do my best to break down everything. To be honest, I was not able to keep track of everything. Just a piece of advice, don’t ever travel here without an itinerary especially if it’s your first time.

We got our plane tickets last February with Cebu Pac for a cheaper price. Thanks to piso fare, we got our ticket for 5,500php RT/pax. If you are lucky, you can even get it for a cheaper price. I know a friend who booked it for just 3,000php RT. You just need to be very patient because it’s very challenging to booked discounted tickets.

Day 1. Airport + Olympic

June 12, 2017

Flight to HK in the afternoon. Paid travel tax (1620.00php/pax) and went to immigration for interview. Make sure to print your itinerary (Plane and Hotel) because immigration officers are very strict. If you don’t have a Visa/Master card, make sure to have enough cash before entering your gates because you can’t go outside anymore after the immigration and security check. Plus you can’t use a normal ATM to withdraw cash in HK.

Our flight is at 4:30 PM. Travel time to HK is about 2 and ½ hours.

We reach the destination at around 7:00 PM. It’s raining and the weather is not very good. June is supposed to be the summer in HK. By the way, we are two couples travelling. My best friend have a cousin who works in HK and his cousin offered his apartment for our first 2 nights stay. Yes, we save a lot on that. :D

Nothing much on this day since we arrive late in HK. We were just amaze how big the airport is. It can actually be part of your itinerary. HAHA. They have trains inside the airport just to transfer passengers on their respective gates. So imagine how big the airport is.

The first thing we did at the airport is exchange our currencies. We exchange our PHP to HKD and during that time, exchange rate is 1 HKD = 7.8 PHP.

To be honest, I really don’t know what’s going to happen if we travel without knowing someone in HK. We’re just lucky because my best friend offered his cousin’s apartment. There is a free wifi in HK airport and you will be surprise because it’s faster than your office internet connection. We bought 1 simcard at 7-11 in HK airport for 88HKD to contact his cousin on his mobile phone.

Our apartment for first 2 nights is located near OLYMPIC station, but they said that the best location to book a hotel is in TSIM TSA TSUI since it’s very near to tourist attractions. You can book a travelers budget room in booking websites like Airbnb or Booking.com for around 1,800php to 4,000php per night.

They have many train lines in HK and they call it MTR. Here in the PH, we only have 3 train lines (Lrt 1&2, and MRT). Train map is complicated at first but you will get used to it. From the airport, they have the Airport Express Train and the first thing you need to know is to what train station is your Hotel more accessible. You will need to transfer trains until you reach your destination. Just imagine yourself in PH, you will need to transfer from LRT 1 to LRT 2 or MRT depending on your destination.

You can ask people around but it’s really hard to get someone who can understand and speak English when you are already outside the airport. For what I remember, we got our Train Tickets from the airport to our destination for roughly around 180HKD for 4 tickets and that is with a Travelers discount. Always tell the ticket facilitator that you’re travelling as a group to get a discount.

You can also get an Octopus Card but we decided not to since we really don’t have plans of roaming around HK that much since our original plan is to visit Macau and Disneyland. And we spoke to a Chinese guy and he said that the only difference of having the octopus card is that you don’t have to fall in line anymore. It is just like a beep card here in PH but it’s definitely your option to get one.

We arrive at the apartment at around 11pm. We rest for a bit and went outside to buy food. We found a Mcdo nearby and prices is 40 HKD to 100 HKD per meal. There are also a lot of 7-11 around the area.

Before that, we receive a news that there is a typhoon in HK during that day. We are so worried because we heard that Disneyland might not be operational for the next days. I will cry if that’s gonna happen.

Day 2. Unplanned City Tour

June 13, 2017

We are supposed to go to Disneyland on this day, but the weather is that good. We were also told that Disneyland will be operating late on that day (which is 1pm) due to the weather. We decided to go to Macau but ferries were also cancelled on that day. In the end, we decided to roam around the city.

We went to Mongkok which is just 10-15 minutes away from the apartment. We don’t have plans of shopping that day since we want to do it on our last day.

We didn’t stay that long in Mongkok since our original destination that day is The Peak Tram.

We actually lost our way going to The Peak Tram. HAHA. It was not really planned at all. It was a long exhausting walk but we did enjoyed it because at least we were able to roam around the city with our feet.

The Peak Tram

It’s a great experience to ride on this tram. It’s a train up to the mountain which is almost 90 degrees.

Ticket is 90HKD RT. I’m not very sure if what’s the way down if you’re not going to purchase an RT Ticket.

The tram itself is a cool experience because I cannot imagine that there is a train going up the mountain. If it is a sunny day, you can see the view of the whole Hong kong city because this is the highest point of HK.

Escalator etiquette: Stand right, Walk left!

On our first day, you can observe that HK is such a busy city. There are a lot of tall building everywhere and they don’t have houses like here in PH. People live in a condo unit.

There are many other places to visit in HK but we decided to go back to our apartment to get some rest. It was a long day for us and we enjoyed roaming around and experiencing the city. This day is not really planned at all so we are not really expecting to visit all the tourist attraction.

Day 3. Disneyland!

This is the probably the most awaited part of our trip. Weather is not that bad anymore and the sun is up already. Disneyland is also back to its normal operating hour. Disneyland ticket is 589HKD.

The moment we entered the theme park, it was already a surreal experience. I still can’t believe I was here.

Disney in the stars Firework. This is my favorite part of my Disneyland experience. It was really a dream come true and a day full of magical experience. I cannot explain in words how happy I am on that day.

Disneyland is truly the happiest place on earth. It was one of the best day of my life. It was really hard to leave the place. I really had so much fun on this day.

Day 4. Shopping at Mongkok Ladies Market

This is our last day in Hong Kong. It was a good sunny day and feeling a bit emotional because I don’t want to go home yet and I feel like there are many more places to explore in HK.

By the way, after our Disneyland trip last night, we went back to the apartment to get our bags and went to Yau Ma Te via Taxi wherein our Hotel for our last night is located. Taxi is just 60-70HKD for places that is 10-15 minutes away.

We booked our hotel through booking.com for 1800php (tax included). It is a small room (double bed) with bathroom and hot shower. Small but a very clean room, not too bad for just a 1 night stay and for it’s price.

We had our breakfast at a McDonald nearby and check out at the hotel at 11am. We went straight to Ladies Market to go shopping before going to airport.

Ladies Market is a happy place for people who loves shopping, especially if you love branded things. The price is cheap compared to the mall price in your home country.

Here is where we bought our pasalubongs. You should also apply your good bargaining skills. I bought fridge magnets here with selling price of 20HKD but I got it for 8HKD.

Our flight is at 7pm but we decided to go to the airport at around 3:30pm. We do not want to go home yet but it’s going to be a big problem if we missed our flight.

Overall, my very first trip out of the country turns out to be one of the best trip I had. Three nights in Hong Kong is not enough to explore the city but it was really a great experience. I wish I can do more trips like this.

HI OK SO i recently started attending this buddhist church & there are a lot of japanese people who happen to go there too and i might be going to japan within the next year or so but since i think you've been there before do u have any advice for first time visitors and/or resources/tips for learning japanese?? i can read kana already and have some verrrry fundamental knowledge of kanji if it helps lol but answer this at your leisure!! thanks a ton!

ooooh buddhist church- that’s super cool! i wish you lots of luck with your japan and japanese endeavours, there’s a lot of really interesting stuff to discover so that’s fun. i did indeed live in japan last year for 12 months and i’ve been learning japanese for a couple years (although i’m still pretty shit lmao) so i can give a couple tips hopefully!

japanese:

if you already know kana that’s fab- make sure you always read japanese in that rather than romaji so that u get more and more fluent with it (and also it will help your pronunciation as well since you won’t need to fight with your brain trying to read off the english phonetics of romaji letters)

KANJI IS SUCH A STRUGGLE I HATE IT but mnemonics are usually the most helpful thing for me- you can find a bunch of example ones online or in specific kanji mnemonic textbooks but also it can be good to just make up your own really dumb ones. the more bizarre the better imo. you can make them super simple like how 肉 looks kinda like it could be meat hanging up or a steak or something OR you can make it convoluted (like one my japanese teacher gave me for 特 (of 特別) was “Hallo. I am a cleaver cow. I can even learn at a temple. That’s why I am so //special//.”(i’m including the spelling mistakes in this because it just really makes me laugh and honestly helped me learn it. Hallo)

on that note- if you learn radicals it can be easier for some people to use those as building blocks for kanji and memorise them more easily. also can be useful because radicals often give you an idea about meaning/reading

in terms of speaking and listening it’s basically the same as any other language- gotta try and speak to native speakers, listen to japanese media, etc etc. in my experience japanese people are usually super super friendly and excited about people learning japanese so you get a lot of positive feedback from native speakers lmao (although sometimes a bit TOO positive because theyre so impressed by u just saying こんにちは that they cant really get past it omfg)

in terms of JAPAN:

honestly i could give so much advice about first time visitors for japan that i need to be kind of limited a bit omfg because otherwise i don’t know where to start

i was in tokyo (well technically kanagawa but shh) for most of the year so that’s where most of my experience is

one thing i’ll say is definitely always relevant regardless of how long you’re there for or anything is to get a travel card like suica or pasmo. they will make your life SO MUCH EASIER. you can just buy them at ticket machines in just about any station and then you top them up and use them as a contactless card to travel, it’s so much easier than trying to calculate the tickets and shit for every single station you go through. would recommend (then you can either refund them when youre done or keep it as a lil souvenir when you leave)

it gets really hot and humid in summer which is gross but there are summer festivals and fireworks which are fun. there’s basically something cool to do in every season in japan- festivals in summer, autumn colours in autumn, winter illuminations in winter, and of COURSE sakura season in spring. cant forget that

there’s all the classic etiquette tips like taking off your shoes and bowing and all that but you can find those easily basically anywhere online tbh
