📓 TELL ME EVERYTHING MEGSTIE

OKAY, this one is probably my most thought out one (it even has a playlist in chronological order), called “Summer of Serendipity” (its abbreviation being ‘S.O.S which I did because I thought it would be funny LOL) but it was a Kurtbastian fic from Sebastian’s pov, where his parents get worried he’s like too out of touch? So he has to spent the summer with his mothers sister in Willoughby Ohio (I even read a folklore book about it 😭😭). He also had a cousin who really liked specifically king Lear, and wanted to he an actor or something 🤨

At the beginning of each chapter sebastian was suppose to write Hunter a very like rude “I fucking hate it here” email. Sebastian like bumps into someone on his first day, is really rude and then walks away. His aunt gets annoyed at him and tells him to go volunteer at the used bookstore run by Emma Pillsbury, who inherited from her late grandmother, but really cannot handle the dust. Well guess who’s also volunteering there? That’s right the guy he was rude to aka Kurt <3 they hate each other, I make a lot of book puns, and Sebastian forms fun little relationships with everyone who lives there and his cousin 🕺 it was suppose to be like lighthearted and cute.

I made shops and backstories for all the glee characters there LMAO, and also thought of doing like a “seasons” series, with the different characters. (Like Faberry was going to be spring, and Samcedes was going to be fall, and maybe Sebastian’s cousin was going to be winter). I still want to write it one day, I just really struggle with dialogue.

I also couldn’t think of Sebastian’s favorite book. Like theme wise catcher in the rye made most sense, but I didn’t want to give him that red flag LOL 😭 I also thought of candide because the whole book is complete nonsense while also hating on positivity. All I knew is that he was going to lie and say moby dick because it has dick in the title 😭

Megsti-hellers and growing old inside a ship

I’m about to lose some friends.

When I first started watching Supernatural, I was 22.  I had just graduated college and I was on my way to New York.  I loved it so much that the one day a week I had off, I insisted it be Thursday so I could watch it.  Supernatural was my life.  The show and I had a falling out or two over the years, but for over a decade my relationship with the Winchesters defined a large portion of my being.  It redefined my taste in music.  And, years later, when I was in a very tough place in my life, it was my rock and my solace and without it I might not be where I am now.

But that’s not what this post is about. 

As I said, I had a falling out or two with the show over the years, but I always came back.  The first time I did that, I joined the fandom for the first time.  I had largely been a Buffy and Harry Potter girl when it came to fandom and I didn’t much care for Wincest, so I didn’t really move in those circles.  Then Megstiel happened.  My first falling out had happened before Meg and Cas ever even met, so I didn’t know what I was missing.  A few years down the line, I started from the beginning.  I wept a lot.  Like a lot a lot.  Over everything.  I needed an outlet so bad in those days, I did most of my crying about the state of my life, and this felt so much better.  Their pain let me feel my own without having to think about my life and the things that caused it.  The show saved me in so many ways, and Megstiel was a large part of that.

After Goodbye Stranger, I officially joined the fandom.  I needed someone to cry with.  I met other Megstiel shippers and the days of the Megstiel Family began.  When I think back on my time in fandom, I think of those days as the Golden Age.  We were all so happy and good to each other, and while we had to deal with the hatred of other ships...we always have to deal with that...it wasn’t the thing that defined us.

That is not the case anymore.

These days, being a Megstiel shipper seems to be more about hating everyone else than about loving our ship.  More and more I’ve seen the conversations circle a single idea: we hate the Desti-hellers.  We hate them with a passion.  And you know what?  We should.  Everyone should.  They’re the worst.  But, at some point, that has taken a turn.

It has taken a turn into active antagonizing.  It has turned into mean spirited laughter at Destiel shippers in general, not just the Hellers.  It has turned into baiting them.  It has turned into plots to tag proxy fics with Destiel but not Megstiel so their filters won’t block it and they’ll be forced to see it.  You know who does that shit?  Hellers.  Only they aren’t Desti-hellers.  They’re us.

I’d be lying if I said I didn’t laugh about this once upon a time.  I’ve been in conversations were we talked about writing spite fic.  Writing fic that made Dean into the abusive boyfriend as Meg is so often portrayed and tagging it Destiel because that’s what is so often done to us.  I regret those moments.  I regret those conversations.  I regret all of it.

More and more I feel as though I’ve just gotten so very old.  I try to tell myself I’m older than most of these people, but it’s more than just the number of years.  I feel like a parent listening to the teenagers talk about their drama, and it’s just so very tiring.  I can’t connect with the fandom anymore because the one corner I felt like was my home is filled with nothing but negativity.  What happened to the love?  What happened to the sharing?  What happened to the community that was my support system and safety net for so very long?  When did our entire reason to be become bitching about Destiel shippers?  I see more complaining about that in our circles than I see art, or new fic, or playlists, or anything that is even related to the ship that supposedly brought us together.

What’s that overused Batman quote?  You live long enough to see yourself become the villain?

I guess I’ve lived too long.
