Here are just a few of the products homegrown by two women’s groups working to protect forests in the Southern Sierra Madre. You can find kamias prunes and catmon sinigang powder from KUMARE, an organization that was founded in the 90’s after a typhoon hit their homes in Real, Quezon. It stands for Kilos Unlad ng Mamamayan ng Real - “Action to develop citizens of Real.” The eco-bag featuring a rafflesia flower is produced by KALIPI Infanta federation, which stands for Kalipunan ng Liping PIlipina - “Association of united Filipino women.” Together they work with the Women Go project of the Haribon Foundation to insure that forest management in their protected area includes women leadership. Worldwide, 85% of government agencies and ministries in charge of natural resources and the environment are still led by men (IUCN 2020). The difficult work to change this, continues. For more information about these products and how to get them, contact Ms. Amelita D. Talotalo at [email protected]. For info about Women Go, contact Ms. Arlie Jo B. Endonila at [email protected].

It stands for Kilos Unlad ng Mamamayan ng Real - “Action to develop citizens of Real.” Kumare is also a term for fellow woman. Cristy Luna, made the eco-bag with the help of her family, featuring a rafflesia flower. She’s the president of KALIPI Infanta federation, which stands for Kalipunan ng Liping PIlipina - “Association of united Filipino women.” Kalipi is also a term for fellow group or ancestors. Together they work with the Women Go project of the Haribon Foundtion to insure that forest management in their protected area includes women leadership. Biodiversity-friendly enterprises are just part of the work, as they are working with local government to include women. Worldwide, 85% of government agencies and ministries in charge of natural resources and the environment are still led by men (IUCN 2020). DOLE awards about P1-M livelihood aid to Pangasinan town
#PHnews: DOLE awards about P1-M livelihood aid to Pangasinan town
ASINGAN, Pangasinan – The Department of Labor and Employment-Region 1 (DOLE-1) has turned over a check worth PHP999,300 as livelihood assistance to beneficiaries in this town.
In an interview on Wednesday, Mayor Carlos Lopez Jr. said the amount will be allotted for the purchase of 250 sacks of class A rice grains, 244 sacks of class B rice grains, two trolleys, two weighing scales, and others.
Lopez said the beneficiaries are 100 Tricycle Operators and Drivers' Association (TODA) members and 50 members of Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina (KALIPI) in the town.
(We have requested DOLE for a bigasan ng bayan or business for the registered and bona fide organization in the town. They were identified groups of TODA and KALIPI that will share in the funding. This is an initiative of the LGU through Rep. Tyrone Agabas),” Lopez said.
Meanwhile, Lopez also requested the DOLE for the establishment of the town’s bigasan ng bayan (town’s rice dealer) where other registered and bona fide local organizations will engage in business, helping them ease the effects of the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic. (PNA)

Theories about the Foundation of Manila
Numerous theories about the founding of manila have been put forward through the years, most of them involving the Sultanate of Brunei.
Founding through Military Victory by Rajah Ahmad in 1258
One theory, proposed by Henson in 19xx and later asserted by V in 198x and Majul in 19xx, suggests that Manila was founded in as a Muslim Principality in 1258 when the Bruneian Rajah Ahmad defeated the Majapahit Suzerain Raja Avirjirkaya. This theory identifies Sulayman as the 14th Raja of Manila since Rajah Ahmad.
Founding through intermarriage ca. 1500
A more common theory, says Scott, is that Manila was founded through the marriage of a Bruneian noble married a member of a tagalog ruling family, "sometime around 1500." (Scott does suggest where this tagalog family would have come from.)
This was a common pracitice by which Islam spread throught insular Southeast Asia: the first Sultan of Sulu was the son in law of a Sumatran prince, and the Sultanate of Maguindanao was founded by a scion of the Malaccan royal Family.
Founding through Naval Victory by Ragam, ca. 1500
A third theory, based on Bruneian oral legends, suggests the founding of Manila through a Naval victory on Manila bay by Sultan Bulkeiah of Brunei, going by the name “Nakhoda Ragam.
Brunei folk history identifies Bulkeiah as Nakhoda Ragam, the reputed conqueror of the Philippines, and tradition even names the cannon with which he was said to have taken Manila - Si Gantar Alam, “Earthshaking Thunderer.” (Scott,1994)
Clodualdo del Mundo Jr.’s Tagalog tranalation Ako'y Si Ragam
Saludong is mentioned as one of the Majapahit realms in Canto 14 of the Nagarakretagama, the old Javanese eulogy to King Hayam Wuruk, written in 1365
According to some, Luzon and/or Manila (Maynila) would have been called Seludong [Sëlúduŋ] or Selurong [Sëlúruŋ] by the Malays of Brunei before the Spanish conquest (Cebu 1565, Manila 1571), but there is no text to support this claim. (Potet, Tagalog Borrowings and Cognates, 2016 )
Potet, Arabic and Persian Loanwords P38
Borenans then conquered a city named Selurong/Seludong that some think might be Manila (Majul 1999:79), although its genuine Tagalog name is Maynila. On the other hand, Seludong may have stood for Luzon.
It is not possible to use Chinese maps as evidcence to corroborate this opinion because the earliest in which Luzon is mentioned were made under the direction of famous Jesuit Matteo Ricci (1552-1610), who certainly transposed in Chinese the name recoreded by the Portuguese.[...] Other maps of the world, undated, but obviously earlier, do not bear such a toponym.
Actually, the only known place naed Selurong is in Malaysia. In so far as the stem of several other such toponyms is a plant name, e.g. Sebuloh (in Bukit, Malaysia [Mal. Buluh "bamboo, se- being a locative prefix]), it is possilbe that Seludong itself is derived from Mal. Lurung "narrow path, alley"
Implications of the 1521 Aganduru Moriz account
Corroborated with the firsthand account of Ladya Ache (Rajah Matanda) as recorded by Aganduru Moriz in 1521, a 1500 would have meant that the first ruler of Maynila did not live long: the account states that Ache's father had died when he was an infant. Ache was a young prince when he was captured by Elcano and his men in 1521.
