Opeongo Shares Stunning New Release "kamouraska"
Tumblr media
Opeongo, the moniker of singer-songwriter Keegan Trumpour, is following up his 2019 debut, Miasma, with sophomore LP, we’ll all go with (the-will-o’-the-wisp), produced by Aaron Goldstein.
Kamouraska is a beautiful town along the Saint Lawrence River in Quebec and the title of his focus track, a ballad about an abused woman in Canada in the 1800s who murders her spouse to finally put an end to her suffering, only to find that she will now have to suffer in a very different way as a fugitive of the law. At least now the suffering is her own, and as such the protagonist feels a certain catharsis and justice in her actions.
“The album title comes from a misheard lyric in ‘Farewell Transmission’ by Jason Molina. One of the alternating lines is ‘will-o’-the-wisp,’ which I always heard as ‘we’ll all go with.’ In literature, the phenomenon of the ‘will-o’-the-wisp’ acknowledges a fool’s errand, unattainable aspirations, a dark conclusion to a sought-after light. And so I put the two together as an acknowledgement of life’s futility and the inevitability of death and loss.” —Opeongo

An Aspiring Chef’s Account
My name is Keegan Trumpour. I am from the small town of Midland, Ontario. It is my ambition to become an accomplished chef and am currently enrolled in the Culinary program at George Brown to aid with such an aspiration as this. I have been working in kitchens since the age of 15 and am presently 23. From those early dishwashing-days, I was quick to note what a strange and wonderful nature the profession of the 'chef' embodied.
At once, the vocation is both laborious and artistic; taxing and creatively endless. There is no other industry that possesses quite the same counter-culture that kitchens seem to, a melting pot of the utmost diversity. The proficient cook uses each of their exteroceptive and interoceptive senses in every single one of their movements.
Restaurants are a deeply-rooted component of society, culture, and history, an added joy to the fundament of eating, a provision of a connotation beyond denotation in the grand perspective of food. It is with each of the aforementioned opinions that I wish to  become a chef.
Having moved to Toronto in November 2016, I very recently acquired a job at a wonderful restaurant called Union. Here, I am consistently learning interesting recipes, techniques, and abilities of proper execution within a well-established work environment.
I am eager to develop a cooking style and passion uniquely my own, but in order to do so I am eager to learn from every Chef that I meet, whether it is through the workplace, schooling, or research of my own. Beyond cooking, I am passionate about travelling and music. My adventurous qualities have benefit me tremendously in the kitchen, as has my artistic nature that ties both to cooking and music.
In writing this blog, it is my ambition to document the growth of my experiences, and to meet chefs globally, both young and old, experienced and inexperienced, and to learn from their stories in kitchens throughout the world. I would love, also, to connect with food enthusiasts of any sort, and celebrate the art of eating good food.

Opeongo Shares Vibrant Release “maybe maybellene,”
Tumblr media
Midland, Ontario’s Opeongo, also known as Keegan Trumpour, has returned with a new single, “maybe maybellene,” written as a love song to a man that he loves infinitely - his late, great friend, Liam Steffler.
“maybe maybellene” is a stark, earnest folk number which centres around Trumpour’s evocative lyrics, blending optimism and the reality of addiction. “Ain’t we here after all?” Trumpour sings as slide guitar and gentle drums join him.
