Fic: you don’t know how you got here (you just know you want out)
I wrote a fic for the @dtqkbigbang! What better way to inaugurate this Tumblr, yeah?
Title: you don’t know how you got here (you just know you want out) Rating: M Words: 16K Fandom: DSMP Ships: Quackity/Schlatt, Quackity/Wilbur, Quackity/Karl/Sapnap
Summary:
Like every other severed employee of DSMP Inc, Alex exists as two different people, who share the same body but know nothing about each other. Every morning when he goes to work, Alex becomes Quackity, and until now he’s been content to leave his other life a mystery.
But then late one night in a diner parking lot, Alex is confronted by a strange older man with mutton chop sideburns and alcohol on his breath, whom Alex can’t remember having met before but who clearly recognizes him, who calls him “Quackity” and tells him they’ve been lied to. And less than five minutes later, that man is lying dead on the ground.
Notes:
Mind the tags!!!!! This is a weird one!! Q is not having a great time!
I'm also planning to expand on it, so if you enjoy what's been posted so far, definitely keep an eye out for more. :3
Preview:
Alex needs to stop doing this.
He’s gonna get a formal reprimand if he keeps missing his clock-in window at work — it’s the one part of his job description he’s really responsible for, and warnings keep turning up in his locker, polite anonymous form letters printed on plain white paper. And probably the worst that would ever happen is a ding to his end-of-year bonus, but Alex isn’t gonna risk it. He needs this job – this job in particular, with all its peculiarities, with all the ways it keeps him sane. He needs to be standing in the office elevator no later than nine fifteen tomorrow morning. He should already be in bed right now.
Instead, he’s alone in a booth at McPuffy’s at one in the morning, nursing a bad-idea coffee with a notebook open in front of him, pretending like maybe he’ll work on his music if he stares at the blank page a little bit longer. He’s primed for a singer-songwriter era right now, after all — if being dumped by one fiance is great material, then two should be a goldmine. And maybe it would be, if he ever let himself think deeply about where he’s ended up — about the cold bed he’ll go home to tonight, or the empty apartment he’ll wake up in, or the rings that sit wrapped in a handkerchief at the bottom of his nightstand drawer. If he sat with how any or all of that felt, maybe he’d be the musician his mama always believed he could be.
But that’s not the choice he’s made, is it? That’s not the road he decided to take.
Funny, how people will judge you if you get blackout drunk every night as a way to cope…but if it’s your job that swallows your days, that strangles the part of you that feels much of anything at all, that’s fine. That’s capitalism, baby. That’s the system working as it should.
Alex doesn’t need to ask his waitress for the check. He gets the same thing every damn time, and he tips the same way — an empty coffee cup and a few crumbs of toast left on his plate, a ten dollar bill pinned under the salt shaker. There’s only one other customer, and he doesn’t look up as Alex takes his coat down from its hook. No one looks at Alex at all as he leaves, and he tells himself that’s how he likes it.
He’s alone because he wants to be. He chose this for himself.
The night air is a shock — cold in a way that makes all the muscles of his back seize up. He’s already got his keys in hand, tucked into his coat pocket as he walks between pools of streetlight.
Later, Alex won’t really remember what he was thinking about — probably hoping his car will start, or wondering if he should stop at the all-night pharmacy to buy more melatonin. He’s on auto-pilot, after all, normal thoughts for a normal night, variations on a bone-deep familiar theme.
Alex won’t remember what he was thinking, but he’ll remember the exact moment his night went off the rails; the pivot on which his life would turn.
Someone coughs, wet and painful-sounding and loud as a gunshot in the silent parking lot. There’s a rasp of gravel and asphalt under a heavy shoe.
Alex stops and turns toward the sound, his body humming with fresh adrenaline. He’s small and tired and alone. He calculates how long it would take him to reach his car; he slots his keys between his fingers, makeshift spikes on a fist he hopes he will not have to use.
A figure steps out from behind a pickup truck, stumbling forward into the light. A man, easily twice Alex’s size and at least a head taller – even stooped and shambling like this – leans heavily on the truck as he shuffles closer. He’s coatless and hatless, dressed only in a rumpled suit and a stained white cotton shirt, a cardinal necktie hanging loose around his neck, his dark hair and mutton chop sideburns heavily salted with gray. Even from here — at least ten feet away — Alex can smell that he’s been drinking. He reeks of whiskey and vomit.
Alex’s grip tightens on his keys. His voice is too high — too obviously scared — as he asks, “Can I help you with something?”
The man’s sharp bark of laughter dissolves into more coughing, and he wheezes as he catches his breath. There’s a smirking chuckle in his voice as he says, in a rough-throated rasp, “Jesus Christ, Quackity…you took your fucking time in there, you little shit.”

Ivy Chapter 1
Tumblr media
DISCLAIMER: I just deepl and google translated my way through this because I wanted to know what's going on, so there are definitely mistakes but I believe I managed the general gist of the story. Anyway, it's just a fan-made translation solely for entertainment purposes. Morganatic Idol belongs to Cybird and ABC Frontier, Inc.
Tumblr media
He was like the ocean. A wide, warm, southern sea.
The look in his eyes was calm and comforting.
But I didn't know. I didn't know who he really was.
Underneath the gentle waves lies a silent darkness.
Darkness takes my hand and leads me to the bottom of the sea. Sweetly, gently, enveloping.
With soft chains as if to bind.
(I'm not worried about living here from today on ...)
I took a sudden paid day off, and with my bags packed, I looked up at the skyscraper apartment building in front of me, stunned.
In my mind, I remember the smoky living space, Sakura-san and the idols' ordinary appearances.
I can't believe I'm going along with such a crazy story, even for a minute. But--
(Don't get too comfortable here. First of all, say hello!)
Then I visited the apartment at the time Sakura-san specified, but--
Hugh: ... ...
Hugh-san opened the door for me, but I didn't see Sakura-san in the room.
(Huh? It was Sakura-san who opened the auto-lock on the first floor just now ...)
Rina: Thank you for your hard work. Um, I had an appointment with Sakura-san ... ... ...
Hugh: ... ...
(Didn't you hear me ... ...)
Rina: I'm sorry for the delay in saying hello. My name is Kawanaga Rina.
Rina: Stating today, I will be working as your housekeeper and office helper.
Hugh: ... ...
(What should I do ... I don't think he's in the mood to talk ...)
As I was feeling awkward, I heard footsteps approaching me.
Ivy: Hmm? You are the girl Eito called, right? Kawanaga-san, I think?
Rina: Ah, yes! I promised him to come at this time, but he isn't here ... ...
Ivy: I see. Sounds like Eito ...
Ivy: Can you just sit down and wait for a while? Hugh, you can go now.
Hugh: Yeah.
Hugh-san consented to Ivy-san's words and left right away.
Ivy: And by the way ... ... ... ... I guess you really moved in.
My eyes fell on the luggage in my hand, and I hurriedly lowered my head.
Rina: I know this may be inconvenient for you, but thank you for your understanding.
Ivy: I'm not blaming you. I'm just saying that it must be hard for you to be pushed around by Eito.
Ivy: If you ask me, it's too pushy to suddenly ask us to live together.
Perhaps out of concern, Ivy-san kindly spoke to me.
I couldn' talk to Hugh-san, but Ivy-san seemed to treat me normally.
I felt a little safer just being able to talk to them, even though I didn't what was right or wrong.
Sakura Eito: Huh? Isn't it Ivy?
Rina: Ah, Sakura-san!
Sakura Eito: I'm sorry. I got a call right after I unlocked the auto-lock.
Sakura Eito: It was a great help that you greeted her on my behalf.
Ivy: I just took over from Hugh. Why don't yoi show her around?
Sakura Eito: That's right. Now let's talk about the details of house keeping.
There are several housekeepers working in this apartment, and it seems that the common areas are separated and excluded from photography.
Additionally, each housekeeper was assigned to a room of a member.
Sakura Eito: I'd like to put you in charge of one of them, but who would you like to be in charge of?
Sakura Eito: The important thing is to interact with the members in charge. Building a relationship of trust will lead to a successful presentation.
Suddenly, I'm asked to talk, and I'm not sure how to respond.
(You can't just suddenly tell me that I can make my own decisions ... ...)
While I was thinking like this, my eyes naturally turned to Ivy-san.
Rina: If that's the case ... ... as long as it's okay with you, I'd like to be in charge of your room, Ivy-san.
Ivy: Me?
Rina: You're the leader of exe and I'm hoping you can teach me a thing or two.
(And I think he listens to me more than everyone else.)
If interaction is important for a presentation, he seemed to be the best choice.
Sakura Eito: I think it's a good idea. I think you two would get along well together.
Ivy: Well, maybe it's better than the others.
Sakura Eito: Then it's settled. ... Then, one last thing.
Sakura Eito: Don't tell anyone about this. This is a special measure, so be careful.
Rina: I understand.
Sakura Eito: Okay, then I'll let you two work out the details of the housekeeping.
Sakura Eito: After you put your luggage in your room, I'll you around the kitchen. You won't be able to use the electricity unless I show you how to use it.
Ivy: I'm going back to my room. Kawanaga-san, we will discuss this later.
Ivy: You'll have to put some things away today, take your time.
As Ivy-san was leaving the lounge, I hurriedly called out to him.
Rina: Umm ...! I'm fine today too!
Rina: If it's okay with you, I'd be happy to discuss this with you as soon as possible.
With only a few months left, we can't just sit back and relax.
I wanted to move quickly to get used to this environment.
Ivy: Yeah? Well, I'd like you to come to my room in an hour. I think I can spare a little time.
Rina: Thank you very much!
Ivy: I don't mind. I think it's better to do it as soon as possible.
Sakura Eito: Yes, yes. Kawanaga-chan is motivated and reliable.
Sakura Eito: When you get used to it, you can help me with the office work, too. Ivy's duties, too.
Rina: Ivy-san's duties?
Sakura Eito: Oh, Ivy usually takes care of the administrative behind-the-scenes stuff, too.
Rina: Oh, really?
Sakura Eito: Usually, artists don't do their own work, but exe's selling point is self-production.
Ivy: When we choose our own work, that kind of tasks comes naturally.
(Self-produced -- I remember there were different areas of responsibility fot different members.)
exe Creed is a self-produced artist who has a passion for the music, dance, direction, makeup, and other aspects of a performance.
Ivy-san is "exe's leader with a good balance of dancing and singing".
He is also said to have "written the lyrics and music for almost all of the songs".
(In addition to being an artist, he is also the leader and takes care of external affairs.)
Sakura Eito: just because he's the oldest member, he also takes care of the other members.
Sakura Eito: It helps us, but it worries me when people take on too much.
Ivy: I'm fine.
Ivy-san only smiled lightly, but I couldn't help but stare at his face.
(He's too busy to take on so much just because he's the leader ...)
(But I'm sure he doesn't think it's a burden.)
He is a person who is willing to work hard for the sake of his friends and the group. I could sense this from every word he said.
Rina: ... ... Okay, I guess this is how it's going to be.
I then asked Sakura-san to show me around the house, and I went to the guest room where I was assigned to sort out my belongings.
(In no time at all, it's been an hour ... ... I have to go to Ivy-san's room.)
(All I need is my smartphone and a notepad ... ... Okay!)
I arrived at Ivy-san's room and knocked nervously.
Ivy: Ah, it's you. Come on in.
(Wow, this room is stylish too.)
The room was large enough to accommodate two people, and there was a large sofa and a bookshelf. On the opposite side was a large bed.
Overall, the décor was subdued, but with a refined sense of style.
(Hmm, but only those shelves seem to be cluttered ... ...?)
Ivy: What's wrong, freezing at the entrance?
Rina: No, it's nothing.
Ivy: Yeah? Then sit on the couch. I'll leave the door a bit open.
Rina: The door?
Ivy: You must be nervous to be alone in a room with a man you've barely met for the first time, right? I think it'll make you feel a little more at ease like this.
Naturally, it was returned to me, and now that I realize it, I am humbled by Ivy-san's consideration.
But on the contrary, it triggered me to become more nervous.
(Starting tomorrow, I'm going to be in and out of Ivy-san's room ... I wonder if I'll be able to do it right.)
That's what I'm thinking--
Rina: Ah!
My mind being occupied, my vision was so limited that I almost got caught on the foot of the couch.
Ivy: Are you alright?
Rina: Y-yes. It's nothing.
I manage to calm myself down while hiding my agitation.
Ivy: So, as for the future, you'll start cleaning my room after you get home from work, right?
Ivy: I know it's hard for you to go home on time, and you don't have to work overtime on those days.
Ivy-san, sitting across from me, looks at me.
Rina: No, I've accepted the job, and I will do it properly.
Rina: If you can, please let me know your schedule and I'll get back to you at ... ...
I tried to open my notepad, but it got stuck in a weird way.
While I was feeling even more impatient, I suddenly heard a small laugh.
Ivy: You look so nervous.
Ivy: You've acting a little strange and your shoulders are tense.
Rina: I-I'm sorry ...
I was about to apologize when Ivy-san looked at me at the same time.
A handsome face looms in front of me, and my heart leaps with excitement.
Ivy: I'm sorry. I suddenly laughed.
Ivy: What should I do? Why don't you just take a deep breath?
Ivy: When I'm nervous about a gig, I do that to calm myself down.
Rina: Breathe deeply ... ...
As I repeated the breathing as instructed, my shoulders slowly relaxed.
Eventually, a quiet breath of air brings a smile to Ivy-san's face.
Ivy: You seem to have calmed down a bit.
Rina: Excuse me.
Ivy: Don't apologize. Let's start by getting used to this environment.
Ivy: If you don't loosen up more, you'll get tired soon. Come on, relax.
As soon as I felt the air move, i felt a light hand on my head.
When I turned my attention to the feeling of being gently caressed, my eyes met the handsome face in front of me.
(... ah)
As if sewn into those beautiful eyes, I couldn't move my body.
(His face, so close ...!)
Ivy-san gazes at me, and I'm just fascinated by him.
Time that lasted only a few seconds seemed as long as an eternity.
???: Hey, what are you doing?
Rina: Eh? Ah ... ...!
He must have entered through the open door. Finn-san, with a grim expression on his face, was staring at us.
Ivy: What's up, Finn? What can I do for you?
Finn: I'm kind of in the middle of a training session.
Finn: More than that, what is she doing in your room?
Ivy: Oh, actually, she's been put in charge of cleaning my room. So we had a meeting.
Finn: What? You were serious when you said you'd let her live here?
Ivy: Eito is pretty much out of his element, too.
Finn: And you go to the trouble of explaining it to her? You're a real softie.
Rina: I will do my best to not cause any trouble. Thank you very much!
Even though I said that, all I got was a sharp look from Finn-san.
Finn: Don't get in our way. That's it.
Rina: Y-yes ...
Ivy: Finn, you need to think about how you say that. She's doing her job.
Finn: Ivy is sweet.
Ivy: On the contrary, you're too cold, aren't you? Why don't you at least say hello?
Finn: Greetings, then. Let me do it my way.
Finn-san then grabbed my wrist with his large hand and pulled me in tight.
(Eh ... ...!?)

The latest market report published by Credence Research, Inc. The global insurance technology market is expanding rapidly and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 36.7% from 2019 to 2027, starting at US$ 1.28 Bn in 2018.
The insurance industry, historically known for its resistance to change, is currently undergoing a seismic transformation. At the heart of this metamorphosis lies the burgeoning insurance technology, or 'insurtech', market. This nexus of innovation is redesigning the way insurance products are developed, distributed, and managed.
Insurtech, a portmanteau of 'insurance' and 'technology', encompasses a vast range of digital tools and platforms designed to streamline and enhance the traditionally cumbersome processes of the insurance sector. From AI-powered chatbots for instant claim settlements to blockchain for fraud detection, the technological repertoire of insurtech is expansive and ever-evolving.
Modern consumers, conditioned by the conveniences of the digital age, demand speed, transparency, and personalization. Insurtech solutions are answering these demands head-on. Mobile apps for policy management, telematics for personalized auto insurance rates based on driving behavior, and instant online policy quotes are just the tip of the iceberg. The industry is not merely digitizing; it's reimagining the entire insurance experience from the ground up.
The benefits of insurtech extend beyond customer-facing applications. Insurance companies are leveraging technology to improve internal operations and drive efficiencies. Predictive analytics is assisting underwriters in risk assessment, while cloud computing is facilitating seamless data sharing across departments, leading to quicker decision-making.

Li Auto Inc. (LI Stock) price trades at a make-or-break level, falling more than 3%, indicating selling pressure in the last trading session. Moreover, LI stock price has dragged toward the lower trendline and may face a breakdown toward the 200-day EMA swing near $30 if it slips below $35.  Conversely, if bulls manage to hold the gains, it may rebound toward the upper trajectory of $50. Furthermore, the price action suggests that sellers have made aggressive short buildups and are trying to initiate a further down move in the upcoming sessions. In the past months, Li stock price has gained momentum and climbed new ridges to reach a swing of $47. Afterward, slow and steady Li stock retraced and retested the 20-day EMA spot, but bulls failed to hold the gains, and sellers aggressively laid the stock to the 50-day EMA, showing seller interest and bulls are in trouble now. Li stock price slipped below the 50-day EMA and heads to retest the 100-day EMA, which is near $35, and a follow-on selling can be anticipated. However, the downside risk was capped until the 200-day EMA, a strong support zone. As per the Fib retracement, the price is trading at the 50% Fib zone and may reach toward the 38.2% Fib zone near $30. At press time, Li stock price is trading at $38.39 with an intraday drop of 3.25%, showing selling pressure from yesterday’s session. Moreover, the trading volume increased by 1.90% to 6.565 Million, and the market cap fell to $38.105 Billion. However, Analysts maintained a buy rating with a yearly target price of $54.53, suggesting a strong growth outlook for the upcoming sessions. Li Auto, Inc. is a holding company that designs, develops, manufactures, and sells electric vehicles. Its product, Li ONE, is a large electric sport utility vehicle equipped with a range extension system and smart vehicle solutions. The company was founded by Xiang Li in April 2015 and is headquartered in Beijing, China. Will LI Stock Regain Momentum Above the 20-Day EMA? Source: Li Stock Price Chart At TradingView On the daily charts, Li stock price is trading above neutrality and may gain pace soon above the swing hurdle of $40. Furthermore, a panic selloff was witnessed due to a sudden fall, which trapped investors in long positions, and Li stock may face consolidation in the following sessions.  The RSI curve dragged toward neutrality, showing a negative crossover, indicating volatility for the upcoming sessions. The MACD indicator showed a bearish crossover and formed red bars on the histogram, indicating a solid battle between bulls and bears, which investors are closely tracking now for decisive moves in the upcoming sessions. Summary    Li Auto Inc. (LI stock) price is trading above neutrality and shows a sudden fall due to the negative market sentiment in yesterday’s sessions. However, the trend is intact, the stock may recover, and a breakout above the swing hurdle of $45 can be seen. Conversely, Li stock will retest the immediate support zone of $35, where the 100-day EMA exists, if follow-on selling comes. Audi is paving the way for circular cars
Tumblr media
Cars still contain many valuable materials at the end of their lifespan. That was already known. How manufacturers can recycle them into high-quality, new car parts is not yet known. That is why Audi, together with fifteen partners, started looking for circular solutions for its own end-of-life vehicles.
Audi's 'Material Loop' research started in October 2022[1] and officially runs until April 2023, but the business community does not have to wait that long. The predominantly positive results are already clear. Audi has even started to scale up some of the experiments.
Tumblr media
The fifteen partners of the project consist of specialized suppliers, recyclers and researchers. Together they have a lot of knowledge about the recycling process of cars; from the collection of wrecks to the assembly of the recycled parts in (partly) circular cars.
Recycle instead of downcycle
The challenge of circular solutions for cars mainly lies in maintaining the quality of the materials used. At the moment this is often lost in the recycling process. What then remains is a 'downcycled' material that does not meet the strict requirements for the production of new car parts.
A good example is the recycling of nickel from car batteries: 40 percent[2] of that 'waste' ends up as raw material for rolling machines. Another 40 percent is heavily downcycled into other metals, breaking not only the automotive cycle, but also the nickel cycle. 20 percent even ends up in landfill. Steel parts are also difficult to circulate. Due to a loss of quality in the recycling process, those car 'residues' usually end up as structural steel.
Circular car solutions: successful and already applied
Audi and partners have therefore started experimenting with 100 wrecks in order to be able to reuse those secondary materials for new Audi cars. The first gains were made in sorting technology: for example, large pieces of plastic could be saved by more targeted disassembly. Normally those parts are shredded.
After putting those high-quality materials away, the remaining exterior parts of the car wrecks were shattered and grouped into heaps of plastic, glass, aluminum and steel. The separation process made it possible to recycle these into high-quality new materials.
Tumblr media
The implementation of the recycling lessons has already started. For example, the partners produced reels with 12 percent recycled scrap (metal waste) that met Audi's quality requirements. The company will now use those rolls to produce 15,000 interior door parts for the A4 model. A circular solution has also been found for broken glass windows. That glass granulate can be melted down and transformed into new glass plates, which are already used in the Q4 e-tron model.
Trace materials from wreck to new car
One of the partners of the research is the Dutch Circularise[3], a provider of digital product passports (software). The company built a digital tool for the other partners with which they could follow the journey of all materials, from disassembly to reuse.
Various departments benefit from such a digital passport. For example, suppliers need to know how many recycled parts are available and where and designers can use that information in their plans for more sustainable car models. In addition, there is a law[4] on planning that makes the traceability of production chains compulsory. Electronics and batteries will be next in 2026.
Experiments such as Audi's are necessary to close the material cycle in the automotive industry. Reusing parts makes manufacturers less dependent on scarce raw materials and enables them to achieve their environmental and climate objectives.

[1] With its joint project ”MaterialLoop”, Audi is taking the next step toward closing more material cycles in the automotive industry. Together with 15 partners from the research, recycling, and supplier sectors, the brand with the four rings is looking into the reuse of so-called post-consumer materials, which are taken from customer vehicles at the end of their lifecycle, from the automotive sector for the production of new cars. As part of Audi’s circular economy strategy, the project provides valuable insight on how a circular economy can be put into practice; https://www.audi-mediacenter.com/en/press-releases/turning-old-into-new-materialloop-project-tests-circular-economy-potential-of-end-of-life-vehicles-15205
[2] Abel Ortego, Alicia Valero, Antonio Valero, Marta Iglesias: Downcycling in automobile recycling process: A thermodynamic assessment, in Elsevier, Resources, Conservation and Recycling, Volume 136, September 2018, Pages 24-32 ; Current metal recycling techniques for end-of-life vehicles (ELV) are based on mechanical treatments to mainly recover steel, aluminum, copper, and zinc alloys. Such techniques facilitate compliance with the ELV European Directive (2000/53/EC) target of achieving recyclability quotes of up to 85%. However, a vehicle can use more than 60 metals, some of them considered critical by international institutions, which end up downcycled as part of alloys or ultimately in landfills. This paper undertakes an assessment of the downcycling degree of minor metals in conventional vehicles using a SEAT Leon III model as a case study. Downcycling is assessed from a thermodynamic point of view using thermodynamic rarity, an indicator that is used as a weighting factor for the metals used in the car. The thermodynamic rarity of metals is a function of the quality of the minerals from which they stem, considering their relative abundance in Nature and the energy intensity required to extract and process them. The results demonstrated that, even if the quantity of downcycled metals only represents 4.5% of the total metal weight of the vehicle, in rarity terms, this figure increases to approximately 27%. This indicates that an important portion of high-quality metals becomes functionally lost. The most downcycled vehicle subsystems are in order: (1) accessories, (2) electrical and electronic equipment, (3) exhaust system, and (4) engine. Further, the most downcycled parts are: speed sensor, control unit, antenna amplifier, airbag circuit, temperature and rain sensors, front pipe, particle filter, and turbo parts.

The digital product passports initiative is part of the proposed Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation and one of the key actions under the Circular Economy Action Plan (CEAP). The goal of this initiative is to lay the groundwork for a gradual introduction of a digital product passport in at least three key markets by 2024. These include textiles, construction, industrial and electric vehicle batteries, and at least one other of the key value chains identified in the Circular Economy Action Plan such as consumer electronics, packaging, and food.

Elon Musk has ‘freed the bird’, but has he slipped into China’s cage?

Elon Musk has ‘freed the bird’, but has he slipped into China’s cage?
New Delhi: While Elon Musk has touted his acquisition of Twitter as “freeing the bird”, as the freeing of speech and expression, ironically he seems to be cozying up to China too at the same time. All of this, according to reports, is to push up Tesla’s business in China.
Musk getting mushy with China
There has been rising demand for clean cars and to cater to this, the competition among automakers has become fierce in China.
Notably, three US-listed EV makers, Nio Inc., Li Auto Inc., and Xpeng Inc. have ceded ground to BYD and Elon Musk owned Tesla in China.
Last month, Tesla cut prices across its line-up in China, partly reversing several increases earlier this year, as Musk’s EV pioneer seeks to increase sales after is Shanghai factory doubled annual production capacity to about 1 million cars.
These developments come months after Musk was seen getting pally with China’s ambassador to the United States, Qin Gang, even as the American business tycoon remains critical of the country’s president Joe Biden.
The meeting between Musk and Gang held great symbolism, since it highlighted that in sharp contrast to Musk’s critique of the US, he was in good terms with of the country’s biggest business rivals – China.
For many in Washington, this proximity between Musk and China is a cause of concern since the two countries have become stark competitions in tech-rich industries such as electric vehicles.
Musk’s fondness for china to increase business prospect
However, one has to realise that Musk‘s growing fondness for China is also to further his own business aspirations as its future relies as much on China as it does on its home country.
Furthermore, with Musk’s acquisition of Twitter, critics now fear that he will be compromised by his China business and go soft on Beijing’s abuse of social media platforms to bully opponents and spread misinformation.
But Musk is not a unique case; many American executives still view China as a strategic necessity, with the lure of its 1.4 billion market a potent concern that could lead to geopolitical concerns.
China welcoming Tesla is a strategic move
While so far, Musk’s good relations with the Chinese government has made for good business, with Tesla becoming the first foreign automaker to strike a deal with them to open a manufacturing operation in China without a Chinese partner in 2018. One has to realise that the Chinese government has not welcomes Tesla out of some spirit of a more cordial US- China collaboration. The country has supported the American businessman’s enterprise because China needs him as much as he needs the country.
But, China still requires American technology, expertise, and capital to help topple US as the world’s premier superpower – feat Tesla helps achieving. China leadership also wants to make Tesla another international business dependent on China market.
Michael Dunne, the chief executive officer of the consultancy ZoZoGo and a former president of General Motors in Indonesia told the publication that what China saw and hoped for was that Tesla would be a catalyst for a mammoth shift in people’s perception of electric vehicles in China, and that hope was realised.
China says will let Tesla build out Gigafactories
Amid all this, the US-China relations are souring, leading to risks of investing in the country. Recently US banks pledged to pull out of China if ordered by Washington because of Chinese attack in Taiwan. While Musk does not seem overly worried at the moment, Kyle Bass, the founder of the investment firm Hayman Capital Management says that China is going to let Tesla build out Gigafactories, figure out how Musk does it and then take advantage.
Tesla announces new China subsidy
A November insurance subsidy worth 8,000 yuan has been announced by Tesla for people buying its EVs in inventory. This comes amid the company’s forecast of increase in orders.
In December, the subsidy will be reduced to 4,000 yuan.
In September, Tesla introduced a 7,000 yuan insurance subsidy on all vehicles after wait times for its EVs fell essentially to zero.
On 24 October, Tesla cut actual Model 3 and Model Y prices in China by as much as 9 per cent. After the October price cuts, Tesla, for a brief period of time, eliminated the insurance subsidy it had implemented in September before reviving it on 8 October.
Tesla vehicles sold in China
Tesla, in October, delivered 71,704 vehicles from its recently upgraded plant in Shanghai. The vehicle sale was up 32 per cent as against a year earlier, but down nearly 14 per cent from the record 83,135 in September.
In October, Tesla exported a record 54,504 vehicles from the Shanghai plant and sold 17,200 in China.
The EV giant reported Q3 deliveries of 343,830 cars, up 42 per cent during the same period last year and above Q1’s record 310,048.
Elon Musk’s net worth falls below $200 billion
Elon Musk has sold 9.5 million Tesla share worth nearly $4 billion over almost a week after he closed his $44 billion Twitter acquisition, as per US Securities and Exchange Commission filings.
Notably, this year alone, Musk has dumped nearly $20 billion in Tesla share.
It seems that Twitter is grabbing maximum of Musk’s attention and it is evident from the action of the concerned Tesla Inc. shareholders who sold their shares, bringing the billionaire’s net worth below $200 billion.
Forbes estimates that Musk’s current net worth is $194.8 billion, with a significant portion of it coming from his about 15 per cent ownership in Tesla, which has a market value of $622 billion.
Is Twitter taking up more of Elon Musk’s attention?
Tesla CEO Musk was quite active on Twitter till last month. However, lately, it appears that he isn’t actively tweeting at light speed as he used to do before acquiring the social media giant. Most of his tweets, especially replies, are restricted to single emojis or one word.
Also, he has not tweeted much about Tesla since he purchased Twitter on 27 October, 2022 after months of back-and forth between him and the microblogging site.
