Okay so COLOR BACKGROUND TUTORIAL <3

Anon is asking about gifs from THIS post so we're trying to do a background color like this ↓

I don't have the psd from the gifs of my pinned but i'll walk you through a new one and hope for the best that it's somewhat understandable lmao I'm putting it under the cut to not hoard space on the dash!

Okay cool, for this kind of edits it's better if we have scenes where the character moves very little, for more movement it's more complicated and not very beginner friendly tbh

First of all you should color your gif like you usually do, since we’re going to be having the character out of the color backgrounds so they stand out. There's two ways to get the color background and we'll go through both since i use the two depending on how i feel like doing things <3 

i’m going to be working with this nina gif since in the scene her movement is almost none and it works perfectly for this kind of sets. i already did a base color and it’s ready to go with any of the following methods

method 1: GRADIENT MAPS 

i went to adjustments -> gradien maps and picked any color i liked, this is my setting i choose for this 

now the color is a bit too on your face for my liking, so i go back to the layers tab and while the gradient map layer is selected i change it’s blending mode to COLOR

I also like to set it to HUE if i want the color to be subtle (example set where i used hue for a color background)

now to take the color off her face we’re going to use LAYER MASKS, notice that in the gradient map layer there’s a white square? that’s the layer mask. Clicking on it and then using the BRUSH TOOL set to black color (the layer mask will give you to pick between black and white, black erases & white gets everything back to normal) we paint over the parts of the character we don’t want to have color. in my case i’ll paint over nina’s face with a soft brush (that means hardness 0%, and in this case i used a brush on 38px size) this is what my layer looks like now and how the gif looks

and this is if i set it to hue

and that’s it! you’re done <3

method 2: NORMAL LAYER AND THE PAINT BRUSH

I make a new layer above all the ones i have already and then i select the brush tool (once again set to a hardness of 0%) and pick a color that i like and carefully start painting around my character with it. this is what it looks like

i avoided her face bc i don’t want it colored so i left it out. now while the new colored layer is selected we once again set it to COLOR (or HUE if you want it subtle)

and to fix things around the face and all, we use the eraser tool (or we layer mask, whatever floats your boat) set to hardness 0%

and ta-da! also done <3

so sage WAS a nina dobrev fc, but with a little tweaking to her ethnicity i’ll use her with a kelsey merritt fc ! she’s a medical student with a desire to work in the lab, unlike her past version who already WAS a working lab tech of sorts, and is a very sweet, playful lady. back in her old rp, sage was super adventurous, loved to travel and try new things so these distractions from the ugliness of the world didn’t really affect her positive, live in the moment outlook ! honestly, she was one of my fave muses before i left the community for a minute to focus on post secondary, and i’m glad that i’m able to build upon her old characterization now that i’m older and more realistic. also shoutout to my old pals gorgeous and dakota bc i wouldn’t have refurbished my sad ass variation of sage if they hadn’t opened southportrpg :/ miss them and their messy muses

odessa fulton/lorelei dorsey

while she’s going by lorelei on my indie, she went by both at one point when i used her in two or three different rps. she’s my lax but passionate photojournalist baby who was a means to become a better researcher with muse backgrounds and helped me to better understand aspects of ptsd. she had been sent to different parts of the world for her job, but was caught up in the crisis in syria i believe — i’m 90% sure it was before the time when we began sounding off about plots and backgrounds based on Real, Scary Events that could be really problematic, otherwise younger!me would’ve changed that to be respectful — and had to deal with the traumas associated with the bombings and unrest once she returned to take on more National or Regional stories; i never went too deep into it as it was a triggering topic and i didn’t wanna use events as severe as that in a tone-deaf or heartless manner, but i did want to explore beyond the safety blanket i had in place for my muses and considering my interest in journalism abroad and a certain movie at the time, odessa/leia came to be

i didn’t get to do much with her, but este was a part of a futuristic apocalyse rp centred around an artificial intelligence uprising, her being a tech whiz just like her dad; he died during the uprising and her and her family had to either seek refuge elsewhere or become part of a resistance group, and she wound up doing the latter with her older sister. rather than follow that plot, she’s just gonna be your usual grad student with her shit together — which is fucking rare SLDGFJDFKS so you’ll really get to see her fun, witty side without some sense of doom looming overhead !

laure zehner / brigitte sondag

my sweet little french spy.. so born laure zehner, she was used in an rp that was essentially reviving people who died prior to said rp’s present day or decade in some magical, unexplained way. she was the daughter of a wwi veteran in the alsace region and would go on to wish to be onstage, doing so upon moving to paris to become a cabaret performer and adopting the stage name brigitte sondag. forget how i explained it in my mia intro for the muse, but she soon became a spy for the allies after the germans occupied france during wwii and, after years of killing and hiding the bodies of officers, she was arrested and killed by a firing squad in secret. came back to life a good seventy years later and had a Massive modernity shock.. idr what followed but she was truly a badass, i wish i did more with her :/

my little oddball artist :( she was a creative girl who had a bit of a wild child lifestyle, and in the rp that she was created for, she was something of a telepath ?? basically, she wished she could find an easier way to communicate with her best friend, who was serving abroad in the military or something, and suddenly ? she could talk to him in her head ?? it never got fleshed out and tbh i probably wouldn’t fuck with something like that again bc of my perpetual fear of being godmoddy, but she was fun to play — albeit cringey bc past!me was equally cringey with All of my muses — and the rp itself had some cool people :/ i just miss anyone i got along with in the Slightest in the past, okay ? i Loved playing her. so much SGLJSGFD i never really played a Genuinely dark muse until her, as far as i remember anyways, and romy took Some inspo from yeseul as well ( plus they share an fc ) ! she was a girl who had almost done it all in seoul’s criminal underbelly, somehow being corrupted at a young age to Push Her Limits and going from a simple teenage pickpocket to a con artist, to a coke dealer or some shit for some quick cash, to an assassin. with some psychopathic tendencies, she had a substantial amount of self-control when it came to chasing her dangerous highs or when confronted, not prone to genuinely snapping for little or even good reason.... though it would go down the drain if you took the last boston cream doughnut. i've gotten so many questions on my graphic shop, tumblr, and pm on how i make my gifs so i made two different kinds of tutorials. the first one is a normal crackship and the second is a manip. so lets just get right into it.

:: step one :: finding the right gifs

i cannot tell you how important this step is! you always want to use gifs that fit together or else it wouldn't look natural and real. i highly recommend using gif hunts to find your gifs or to follow blogs on tumblr. for example, type in google "nina dobrev gif hunt" or "dean winchester gif hunt" or whoever. for tumblr blogs, search "nina dobrev" and you should blogs that have gifs on your faceclaim.

once you find the right gifs, open photoshop. (i use photoshop cc)

:: crackship ::

so after you open the gifs that you want, crop the gifs so the sizes are the same. as you can tell in the photo, i like to crop them at 2.819 x 1.556. you can crop them at any size but i like to use this sizing.

next, figure out the order of the gif. by that i mean figure out which gif you want first and which you want second. i chose to use the gif of nina first and use the one of dean second. once you figure that out, go to your second gif and select all the layers and group them into a folder.

to do that, simply select the layer 1, hold "shift" on your keyboard, scroll all the way to your last layer, click on it, and all of it should be selected.

then, click the folder icon on the bottom and it should all group together in a folder.

once you've done that, select all of frames and hit copy.

now go to the first gif you're gonna use. you can either transition into the other gif like this

or go straight into the other gif with no transition

since the gif i use to make this tutorial has the transition, i'm gonna show you how to make that. so select the last four frames of the first gif and paste the gifs over the original gif.

i don't have a screenshot of it being pasted, but you get the gist of it. next, go to the first frame that you pasted over and open the folder of the second gif. once you're at the first layer of the second gif, change the opacity to 20%.

then next frame and next layer, change the opacity to 40%. then do 60%, 80% and then you should have your transition.

this is how it should look on your timeline.

next add text. for the font, i use calibri in italics and the size i normally use is 14. so simply add your text onto the gif.

once you've done that, double click the text layer on the side and select "stroke" and "drop shadow". this helps the text to be more visible and easier to read.

i also forgot to take a screenshot for drop shadow but i know i use 35% opacity and leave the rest of the settings alone.

also make sure you're on the first frame when you add stroke and drop shadow bc it automatically adds it to all of the frames.

after you add that, you can also use transition on the text like the way i did with the gif i used in the example. you basically do the exact same thing as before with the change in opacities.

then add the psds you want to use. i recommend not using crazy psds because (in my opinion) it wouldn't like quite right. the psds i used were by astraeawrites on tumblr (psd #18 and i only used the brighten filter) and by bluesartgent on tumblr (ouat psd).

also, i like to have the psd layers underneath the text so it doesn't change the coloring of it.

finally, change the speed of the gif. select all frames and hit the number thingy underneath the first frame. change the speed to 0.1 or 0.07 (i normally use those two.)

and then you're done with the crackship!

:: manip ::

i'm nearing the 20 images limit so i wont add many pictures since it's kinda the same process. so once you figure out which gif you want to insert onto another gif so it's all in one frame, you group all the layers into a folder and select the masking thing on the bottom.

then copy all frames again, go onto the other gif (the one where you're adding the gif you just grouped together), select all frames, and paste over them.

once you've done that, fix your gif so it fits nicely into the base. go to top bar, select edit, and hit free transform. this helps with making sure that the gifs work together and one is not bigger than the other (if that makes sense).

next, erase any unwanted area. i use 0% hardness when i erase because it helps with blending in and it kinda makes it look more natural i guess. make sure you select the folder layer and not every single layer within the folder because that is just way too much work and it doesn't look as good.

also keep in mind it doesn't have to be perfect. it is very hard working with manips so do the best you can and don't stress out if it's not flawless. cropping also helps to make the manip look better as well

then delete excess frames, add psds, change the speed and boom you're done!

i get most of the from pinterest (this is my pinterest, if you want to take a look)

then i look for pictures that all have the same colour sheme-ish, like with the natasha and nina ones, it's red. finding images takes the longest ugh.

the best way to find images is by searching for 'aesthetic [name, fandom, colour, etc.]',

and when i edit them in photoshop, i often crop the image to a larger size (the thing portrayed in the image gets smaller, the white gets more by either painting or distorting) to get the minimalistic-ish vibe & put psd on it, so they look the same and have the same style. that's mostly why they look so well together, i'd say.

Cortez Shocks The Establishment

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-D) had the support of numerous national progressive organizations Justice Democrats and Our Revolution, while also receiving support from Brand New Congress, MoveOn, and other groups that felt she was the candidate best suited to serve New York’s 14th District.

Despite incumbent Joe Crowley (NY-D) serving in the United States House of Representatives for two decades; gaining a significant amount of power within Congress, serving as the chair of the Democratic caucus. Within the past few months showed ambitions to one day become the Speaker of the House if Democrats were to regain control of the House.

However, Cortez’s resounding primary victory last night has sent shockwaves through the political landscape, shocking pundits, and journalists who ignored the long and efficient grassroots campaign of Ocasio-Cortez.

How Cortez Won

National political analysts have attempted to minimize the effectiveness of the Cortez campaign by reducing her victory to her ethnic and gender identity.

Again, it's probably not any one thing that allowed Ocasio-Cortez to win. It was some combo of running to the left, being a woman, being a minority (in a majority-minority district), running a very good campaign, and Crowley dismissing her at points.

Politico, which has misrepresented the electoral success of Our Revolution during this election cycle used a similar talking point to explain the Cortez victory.

In reality, the strong progressive platform Alexandria Ocasio Cortez ran on was far more of a factor than the demographic makeup of the district or her gender. Crowley was able to easily maintain his seat for nearly a decade with a similar constituent base.

Cortez made her “abolish ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement)” along with ending private prisons key parts of her justice reform plan. Cortez also supports Medicare for All, campaign finance reform, and viewing housing as a human rights concern.

If Ocasio-Cortez ran on a similar Third Way platform as Crowley, it’s highly unlikely that she would have defeated the incumbent in such sweeping fashion.

According to an interview with The Young Turks (TYT) after her primary victory, Ocasio-Cortez credits the Justice Democrats organization for supporting her campaign from the very beginning. During the interview, she also stated that her campaign highlighted registering independent and unregistered voters as Democrats prior to the registration deadline to ensure they would be able to vote during the primary.

She made several appearances on TYT’s Rebel Headquarters program during her campaign, which was the only major outlet covering the Cortez campaign until Crowley asked to debate Cortez late in the campaign. After the first televised debate on June 15th, Crowley dismissed Alexandria by sending a surrogate in his place to a planned debate against his then-challenger.

Emma Vigeland and Ryan Grim of TYT were at Ocasio-Cortez’s headquarters as the race was called. Emma was able to interview Cortez after the candidate expressed her gratitude to supporters.

Our Revolution President Nina Turner released a statement soon after the Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez victory was announced:

Ocasio-Cortez was at a major financial disadvantage, yet was able to make the best use of resources while knocking on as many doors as possible. Her model of beginning a grassroots campaign over a year prior to the election may provide a future model for progressive campaigns.

Is This A Sign Of Future Election Results

In the post-World War II era, the red rose has been a symbol for Social Democratic and Democratic Socialist parties around the world. The British Labour Party, Swedish Social Democratic Party (SAP), The Romanian Social Democratic Party (PSD), and the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) are among those who use rose imagery in their party logo.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s primary victory over Joe Crowley, along with national polling detailing support for Social Democratic policies (Universal Healthcare, tuition-free public college, raising of the minimum wage, etc) could signify a ‘Wave Of Roses’ in upcoming election cycles.

Groups like Justice Democrats, Progressive Change Campaign Committee, and Our Revolution are likely to become larger influences in the Democratic primary process as they continue finding electoral success against Third Way Democrats attached to the corporate establishment.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will face Republican Anthony Pappas on the November 6th general election. Cooks Partisan Voter Index rates the seat as ‘D+29’ making a Pappas victory highly unlikely.

If victorious, Ocasio-Cortez (28) will become the youngest woman ever elected to the United States House of Representatives.
