“Oh sweet fuck,” Idralas says, pinching the bridge of her nose. “You kidnapped two elflings?”
Maedhros glowers silently as Maglor’s face pinches as if he’s just eaten a lemon. “Well, technically, they’re half-elves, not elves, and kidnapping kind of requires intent for it to be well, kidnapping, so…” He trails off at the look she is giving him and sighs in defeat.
“Yes. Yes we did,” he admits.
A take on the moments after Sirion.

My entry for day 3 of @tolkienocweek! Today is a discussion between Idralas (Maedhros' eventual head healer and a fellow escapee of Angband) and Crinthammos (her cousin and eventually 'married' to Caranthir).
Crinthammos cannot really hear what is being said from the top of the hill: not, of course, that she really needs to. She already knows what the discussion is about from Carnistir’s angry mumblings about ‘giving the kingship to that idiot’ and all the other rumours she has heard flying around.
“I’m glad he’s doing it.”
Crinthammos starts to shrug and then remembers that her cousin can’t see anymore and settles for a half-hearted hum instead.
“You disagree?”
“I don’t really have much of an opinion, in all honesty. All this kingship business is overrated.” She leans back against the soft grass, squinting as the sun peeks out from behind a cloud to try and see if anyone has drawn a weapon or threatened someone with something vaguely life-threatening.
“Now I agree with you on that.” Idralas frowns. “Can you see if anything has happened?”
“No. Bit of a disappointment really but it looks as though everyone has kept their tongues behind their teeth and their swords in their scabbards.”
Idralas hits Crinthammos on the arm with a scary amount of accuracy. “Don’t say it like that. It’s good if no-one’s fighting: it means everything’s going right.”
She scowls and tucks her knees under her chin, turning her head in the direction of the hastily erected stage.
Crinthammos sighs and begins picking at the grass around where she’s sitting, moodily throwing it forward. She can remember her cousin from before but the Idralas then had been a quiet healer’s apprentice with an endless patience but now…
Now Crinthammos doesn’t understand her at all.
“Lindwil would agree with you,” she says into the lapse in conversation. “They fit right in at court and all that, understands how all this politics works.”
“It’s stupid really, the council of Elders makes far more sense but I guess they can do as they please.”
A hushed gasp ripples around the open field, followed by a far louder muttering, and Crinthammos supposes that Maedhros has finally worked up the nerve to declare his abdication of the crown to his uncle.
Or half-uncle as they all insist on calling it, although Crinthammos cannot see much of a difference.
“Have they started fighting now?” Idralas asks, picking up on the meaning of the whispers.
Crinthammos shields her eyes from the midday sun and tries again to make out anything on the stage.
“…no,” she says eventually, “they are being very well behaved.”
Idralas visibly relaxes beside her. “Oh good, Mae was worried.”
“We might not be safe quite yet. I’d better go down and see that Carnistir doesn’t break one of the golden-haired ones arms.”
She pushes herself to her feet and, besides her, Idralas does the same. “I had better do the same, although Fingon will undoubtedly be there already.”
She slips her hand into the crook of Crinthammos’ elbow and they make their winding way down the hill through milling crowds, away from their warm spot on the grass and towards the far less appealing mess of Ñoldorin politics.

For the OC asks since I love hearing about other people's OCs. Sjsjsjs. It can be whichever OC you want to talk about.
What does your character consider to be their lowest point?
Tell us something about your OC that doesn't make it onto the page?
What are your character's special skills?
How does your character unwind after a long day?
What is your character's biggest fear? Most irrational?
Ooh! Absolutely - I’m gonna do Idralas, I think, as I’m actually writing something for her!
19 - What does your character consider to be their lowest point?
Sometime in Angband, probably, when she did a lot of things that she regrets now that she is out. I won’t go into details but I’m sure imaginations can come up with ideas.
24 - What are your character’s special skills?
As she’s blind (one of Mairon’s ‘experiments’), she can ‘see’ using a mixture of echolocation and a thing where she can sense the fëar of other beings around her.
She is immune to a lot of the Enemy’s magic due to living with it for so long, so she has that going for her too.
36 - Tell us something about your OC that doesn’t make it onto the page?
Umm...trying to think of what I’m going to write.
Probably that she and Caranthir’s wife (Amosgarn) come from the same Avari village (it probably won’t ever come up except in implication). They are from different houses and don’t really interact until Valinor.
38 - How does your character unwind after a long day?
Bold of you to assume that she ever unwinds.
But if she did - probably via hanging out with Maedhros or Fingon or another survivor of Angband and just revelling in their existence or by sitting in the bell tower (when the bell’s not ringing).
49 - What is your character’s biggest fears? Most irrational?
Biggest fear is losing the war and returning to Angband and her capture there.
Her most irrational is that she would willingly do this and enjoy it.

For the unique writing asks, number 8?
8 - Favorite dialogue in your wip? (If asked more than once, respond with a new piece each time)
This is from my piece for Day 3 of Tolkien OC Week - it’s a conversation between Idralas (the OC in question) and Maedhros when they first meet in Angband.
“How long have you been here?”
“I do not know. Þauron does not like me to be kept informed of such things.”
“Who is Þauron?”
“Who is…?”
“Oh, you mean our great and glorious leader...Þauron...it sounds like an angry name: what does it mean?”
“Abhorred.”
“Abhorred. Well, it certainly suits him.”
