from a d/iscord conversation about what Étoile thinks will happen to their soul after death if they don't sell or lose it:
so most elves expect their souls to go to arvandor and be reincarnated through the power of the elven pantheon = the seladrine. the canon d&d lore is that lolth-sworn drow and elves who turn away from the seladrine do not reincarnate and their souls are instead cast out into the ether but fuck that. so i think lolth-sworn drow often do not reincarnate because they serve her as faithfully in death in the abyssal plane as they do in life, though there are exceptions. and that elves who otherwise worship gods not from the seladrine also either find rest with their deities and / or reincarnate eventually, just not through arvandor.
auril's palace and hall: winter's hall, floats above and feeds the river styx in pandesmos, the topmost layer of pandemonium. she keeps 20,000 petitioners (worshippers of hers, in life) in her palace for ritualistic / sacrificial purposes and to act as sentinel of her palace when she leaves. there are no photos of them, but i've included a photo of an ogre petitioner of a chaotic evil plane for comparison.

reminder that auril is neutral evil. her petitioners "took on the forms of cold elemental spirits, which were immune to cold and electricity and resistant to fire and sonic damage. These beings could inflict cold on anyone they touched."
étoile would have expected that they would have been summoned to beneath winter's hall in death, but unwelcome inside it for being as joined to the seladrine (and the dark seladrine from which lolth is a part) as they remain (as a high elf). they expected to traverse, or float beneath, the styx on the slow, painful pilgrimage back to the prime material plane and reincarnation. separated from their god and the joys of life, until they could find one or the other, or peace, again.

Weapon that my group had found in the topmost layer of Pandemonium, in Pandesmos, in The Howling City. They killed a Pit Fiend that was patrolling between a set of three towers across the deserted city. It was fun whipping up the artwork.
