Hello! While your WIP folders are bountiful and tickle my curiosity, I HAVE to ask you about the Pacey one. What have you envisioned for it? How was the idea born? I just love Patience, and her very scary bodygu-- hmhm maidservant-turned-lifelong-*friend*

Hi! Ah thanks for the interest!

I adore Patience and Lacey and thought they stole the show every time they were on page. I guess this idea came about when I was thinking about what the early days at Buckkeep must have been like for them (Post-Chivalry, mid-AA) and thinking about how their relationship would have grown during that time. The comic I have a planned is just a small moment between them, where Lacey slips and says "My Love" instead of her customary "My Lady." It's fun thinking how they'd both react and I love a good noble/bodyguard dynamic.

Even when I'm painfully going through the Rainwild chronicles I'm still thinking of the Farseer family. This time it's Patience and Chivalry. When I was drawing Chivalry, I was very confused because of how young looking he is and then I remembered that he died at the age of 26 or smth. So yeah, I left him like it, looking younger than his own son. And Patience, well, she's just Patience. She came out actually pretty close to what I had in my head.

Also I love the parallels between Chivalry and Patience romance and Fitz and Fool romance, cuz like both have an unstable, emotionally unavailable, devoted to his kingdom Farseer and the other one, who's a quirky, weird and sunny person, that just tries to support their beloved.

Fitz's mommy issues make me so sad. When he very carefully doesn't think about his real mother at all, even though she was there when his grandfather took him to buckkeep. Even though she called out "keppet" in the marketplace. When he says patience was only like an aunt and not a mother. When he says "he took me away from her. I was much too young to be gone from her" then burritch realises that is nighteye's memory. When he almost cries when dutiful tells him patience called him "son", that she still mourns him. When he gets jealous when nettle is telling thick she won't let anything harm him. When he finally calls patience "mother" at the end of tawny man. She must have wanted that for so long, this woman who could never have a child of her own. I was so happy he got to spend some good years with her, as a mother and son before fool's assassin

Thinking about Patience Farseer makes me literally ill. You would think she'd be the one that hates Fitz, the bastrad son of her husband, the most but she was likley the only adult that loved him unconditionally. Like she actually cared for him and saw him as her son and she loved him so much and sge fought for him and she insisted hed be burried whole WHICH LITERALLY SAVED HIM and she thought he was dead for 16 years!!!!!!! Her son!!!!!! Her son which she loved so much and cared for so much and!!!! And shes just the best ok. And then he returned!!! He called her "mother"!!!! SHES HIS MOM

RotE Ladies Big Bang 2022

Hello everyone! I’ve been MIA from a lot of fanworks spaces for a while, but with everything that’s going on in the world, I feel like it’s time for another round of RotE Ladies Big Bang. What’s that, you say? Only the second coolest event in the Realm of the Elderlings fandom (the first being, of course, the fantastic Winterfest gift exchange)!

In May 2020, my friends and I talked about how much hate Molly and the other ladies in The Realm of the Elderlins get in some parts of the fandom, and how we found that incomprehensible because this series is just wall to wall full of gorgeous, human female characters. RotE Ladies Big Bang 2020 was born as a result, and I encourage everyone to take a look at the tag #rote ladies big bang 2020 or #rlbb2020 because we were blessed with lots of truly fantastic fanworks.

Last spring I was too mired in real life business to do a repeat, but this year we’re back with vengeance! So once again, I'm proposing a Rote ladies appreciation month: 30 days of fanworks and meta starring the lovely female and female-presenting characters of the Realm of the Elderlings!

Last time I went into hosting an event without any prior knowledge of how to do so, and I continue to go into it absolutely clueless, so bear with me. As that implies, this is a super casual event: there’s no need to sign up, and you can contribute as much or as little as your time and energy levels allow - even if it’s just a sketch, we’d love to see it. 💜

WHAT: RotE Ladies Big Bang 2022, 30 days of celebrating these amazing characters being badass and sweet and strong and vulnerable and everything between

WHEN: You can start creating immediately and keep going all through June, but posting for the event happens June 1st to June 30th 2022

WHY: Because complex and human female and female-presenting characters in fantasy literature deserve more love!

WHO: Anyone, everyone! Especially you!

This piece shows Patience and Lacey in a sunlit meadow, and it is so incredibly lovely 😭😭😭 The character designs are really spot on (down to Patience’s tattoos) and the soft colour palette really adds to the calm and tender atmosphere. We even got some extra sketches that will definitely put a smile on your face :)

Here's another character bingo ask: Patience and/or Chivalry and/or Burrich from RotE✨

Patience doesn't get enough screen time! If Hobb wrote a whole book about her I'd do back flips. And for adoption, I just imagine Patience as a child, poor odd little kid feeling so out of place, feeling like she's disappointing her parents. I'll protect her!

I decided not to do Chivalry and Burrich because I don't think I'd mark enough boxes. Chivalry is mostly conjecture to me except that there was definitely a Chiv/Patience/Burrich relationship happening. If they had lived in Kelsingra they'd have been a happy, healthy poly crew. I'd probably mark both "what's wrong with them" boxes for how he handled abdication and Fitz's welfare. For Burrich I'd probably mark the wasp nest box simply because I don't hate him like a lot of other folks seem to. He's certainly a man with problems, but that's a lot of characters in RotE.

I've been feeling quite bad about my art for a while now and I decided to compile some of my Realm of the Elderlings fanarts as a reminder to myself that I've never drawn this much in a single year before (and it's not even August yet) and that being hard on myself won't get me anywhere. If anything, it only kills the motivation to draw. Hopefully it gets better, because there's so much I wanna draw!
