La carriera di Peter Schuyff in Italia inizia con una personale nella galleria di Lucio Amelio a Napoli nel 1987, stesso anno in cui a New York Leo Castelli decise di dedicargli una personale.

Peter Schuyff inizia a lavorare quando l’estetica postmoderna della società occidentale entra in crisi a causa di un pensiero che teorizzava l’impossibilità da parte della cultura pittorica e non, di creare una presa diretta sul mondo di allora perchè considerato ormai scomparso dietro precessioni di immagini. Questi cambiamenti portarono ad un allontanamento da quelle che erano le scelte teoriche e linguistiche del neoespressionismo che al centro del suo operato poneva il suo mondo interiore e il suo lavoro.

Si fanno strada in questo modo ricerche e protagonisti dell’arte fino ad allora considerati minori, che colgono l’occasione per adottare differenti mezzi espressivi: si va così dal concettuale, all’installazione alla fotografia e ad altre forme d’arte a svantaggio della pittura e della sua centralità.

Il movimento che vede coinvolto Peter Schuyff è un tipo di pittura geometrico-astratta che si contrappone in maniera netta agli ideali del neoespressionismo, al punto da creare una tendenza e un movimento a parte che si identifica per l’appunto con il nome di Neo-Geo. Tra i maggiori esponenti del movimento si ricordano Peter Halley ma anche Helmut Federle e in maniera minore, ma non certo per importanza, lo stesso Peter Schuyff.

Peter Schuyff esplora con le sue forme l’universo della geometria riscoprendone la sua reale poetica.
