“Miss, you’re mad.”
“So I’ve been told. Repeatedly.”
“Aren’t you supposed to be at home doing… Whatever rich ladies do?”
“And miss out on all the fun? Never. Did you see where he ran off too?”
“Why? Are you going to chase after him? Hit him with your shoe?”
“No.”
“Scream for help?”
“No.”
“How are you so sure?”
“Because I’m carrying a gun.”

There are many things Jack hates about England. The weather, for one. The food. The fact that Phryne’s parade of "old friends" includes the gangster king of Birmingham, who is not above hiring a woman to do his dirty work. Has he mentioned the weather?

Tommy looked at the card in his hand. “Lady detective…” He read the words out loud. “Impressive.”
“I know.” Miss Fisher grinned at him.
He took a drag from his cigarette. “You're a long way from Melbourne.”
“Tell me about it.” She reached for her glass.
He gave her a considering look. “What are you doing here? I don’t believe this trip is for pleasure.”
She grinned. “You never know.” She took a sip from her glass.
Tommy smirked. “I’ve seen a lot of trouble in my time, and you still look like a new kind of it.”
She smirked back. “I’d hate to be like everybody else.”

“Trust me, I know what I’m doing.”
“I’d be mad to trust you.”
“I thought you were already mad.”
“Not that mad, Mr. Shelby. I might be… Unconventional, but even I know where to draw a line.”
“Not fond of criminals, are you?”
“Is anyone?”
“You’d be surprised.”
“Of course. Now if you’ll excuse me…”
“I don’t think I will.”
“I beg your pardon?”
