Another auvember prompt!! This one is a song ficlet for an au where Splinter and the turtles are human. He adopted them with his partner I have left very vague.

Yoshi stepped inside, closing the sliding door behind him. The noise of the party outside became muffled. His partner was left outside to handle the grill.

He just needed a second away from everything.

Several more steps and he found himself in the living room. There had an opportunity to see the font yard in full view. It was empty since all of the guests were in the back.

Saturday we installed a new bay window, And it was something right, out of a dream, I never had.

He didn’t hate the window. It just wasn’t what he wanted. It was a compromise. Life and marriage is all about compromise.

He glances into the kitchen where snacks were still strewn about the counter.

 Saturday belongs to soccer practice,  I pack their little cakes, for after the games, they never win.

It’s not as if he was truly disappointed in his kids. Even if they did win the games, what would they get? A little trophy? A medal? It was just for them anyways. They had more of a right to be sad. It was something they all wanted to do.

Except Donatello, he’d rather collect data on the games he watched and dryly cheer his brothers on.

Many found it strange, he found it….endearing. Some children, like Mikey, draw their parents pictures. Donnie codes a drawing.

He wished he could put it on the fridge. Donnie figured out how to print it. It looks nice up there.

And life is full of all of the trappings of the well-to-do And life goes on, as I shop for shutters to obstruct the view. And life is fine, if only it were mine.

He wouldn’t trade his current life for anything. Still….he missed his former life as well. Not the part where his ex/former agent forced him to take on roles he hated and burnt him out to all hell of course.

But just for once I’d be the center of attention. Just for once, remember what a life can be.

Before that, when the spotlight was his, utterly and completely his. When people were entertained by what he wanted to do. When people called him by a different name and cheered it, had him sign it, loved it.

He enters the bathroom and catches a glimpse of himself in the mirror.

Cancer was nothing to joke about. Well, he had to joke to cope. He had to joke to keep his children from panicking. Attention was on him while he struggled.

He remembers when his first injury, his first illness, finally managed to be the thing that pulled him from his toxic romantic and work relationship.

This time was a bit different from that.

There were people who stuck around him, wanting him to beat it.

There’s a magazine nearby with her on it. Big Mama, her stage name, hanging on the shoulder of another idiot who fell for her lies.

 It fucking worked, I’m fucking here, he’s fucking her I’m disappointed

He couldn’t warn anyone about her. A strict contract, an NDA forbidding it.

He feels the fabric underneath his feet the longer he stood there.

 There’s still carpet in the bathroom And of the two, who’s the worse for wear Me

There’s scratching at the door before a dog pushes it open, realizing it was never fully closed.

We love our dogs, especially Captain He’s a bullshit mix

Raph would bring home stray animals as often as he saw them. 90% of them had to go to some other good home.

They kept two dogs to make it easier to say no.

He splashed water on his face before leaving the bathroom with Captain. They went back to the sliding door and he let him out.

Captain ran off to the pool area where all the kids are having a nice time under careful supervision.

He glances at his partner.

 The pool is out, the neighbors come rushing Maury Prefers their kids

When he was younger, he would get compared to other kids constantly. They had better grades, they respected their teachers, they didn’t talk back.

Most of those kids didn’t have a father who ran off while also having a mother who died.

They didn’t have to listen to their grandpa act like they weren’t trying, probably.

His children had two parents.

He was there, but was he truly around?

 And the world's a stage when you’re middle of age

But just for once my life could be just what I wanted Just for once I'd feel the spark that I once knew

Everything in his life had been working against him.

 Just for once I’d feel the fight inside, the burning of a candle Something more than I can handle Just for once

His partner ushers him over. He needed to watch the grill now so that there was time to talk to the guests. Enough was spent taking a break already.

He holds the spatula and stares down at the meat sizzling in front of him.

Should I flip the burgers now Should I double check it's well done on the outside not within Oh 

If he messed up the food, Donnie would refuse to eat. Raph wouldn’t care, Leo would dump ketchup on it and chow down.

His partner would probably be slightly angry.

He feels Mikey pull on his apron.

Should I let the coals burn out? Should I let the years cook my body down in front of him. 

Mikey smiles up at him with his wide, gap toothed grin.

He babbles about burger grilling techniques he saw on his favorite cooking TV show.

Yoshi smiles and picks him up with his free arm. If his body was not well enough for performance, he was glad it was healthy enough for them.

Mikey happily keeps talking as Yoshi grills.

He sees one of the neighbor kids talking to Leo about her dance classes. Leo loves anything where people have to watch him do something.

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

The other day the Johnsons borrowed my tap shoes Their eldest daughter is beginning tap It was no bother, I never ever use them.

He hopes that none of his kids turn out like him.

He wants them to be better.

What are the AuAU characters’ opinions on cats? If they like them, do they have a favorite breed?

Because I love cats so hehehe

Stray cats are pretty common in the country (I know one personally) so assume they're common in Melbourne (where my AuAU is set) so the boys would probably end up adopting AT LEAST one.

In my magic!AU Mikey adopted icecream and her single surviving son clunk, and they are based on icecream kitty from 2012 and clunk from 2003.

But in my AuAU I think I'd just put my own cat in there (I had a cat very briefly but she was my whole world and I miss her violently every day (she's still alive I think, just moved back to her birth home))

Her name was snowball but I would call her Snowbell because her name was almost cowbell and Snowbell sounds cooler. She was a black bicolour, about 50% white. Probably a moggie (hahaha like me) and she's shorthair. I'll draw her later.

Donnie would know the most about cats, and he hates dogs. Total cat person. His favourite breed would be Sphynx and common mixed-breed moggies. Snowbell is allowed into his lab at all times.

Additionally- fun fact Scottish folds are illegal to breed in Victoria. Donnie hates most cat breeds because often they are mistreated and inbreeding involved leads to health problems and such. (He doesn't hate the actual cats ofc just the people that breed them)

Leo is neutral about cats, doesn't know anything about them but thinks they're cute af. Also likes other animals. If he could have any pet he would want a pigeon. Also thinks that "tabby" is a cat breed. Snowbell gets recorded a lot by him and he's done that blanket trick,,

Raph loves cats sm, he likes most animals but cats just have his whole heart. Snowbell scratches him often after he's pet her a bit too much.

Mikey loves cats, trans-dimensional constants demands it. He also loves other animals like Raph, but he found Snowbell as a kitten and eventually convinced Splinter to let him keep her. Snowbell spends the most time with Mikey, and Mikey is in charge of feeding her.

Also April is Snowbell's 'legal guardian' (she got her microchipped and took her to get her shots and neutered/fixed whatever)

So yeah that's my insanely in-depth answer to your simple question >:3

unraveled au master post because I'm bored and I don't want to do school (also known as me info dumping about my silly little separated turtles for an ungodly amount of time)

After Draxum’s lab exploded, Splinter grabbed the turtles, just like in the show, but he dropped Raph on the outskirts of the Hidden City, who ended up being found by Malicious Mickey and raised by the Mud Dogs. Splinter gets to the surface and places the three remaining turtles in a box and goes to find food but gets recaptured by Big Mama. (wandered a little close to the lion's den [her hotel]) Mikey and Leo escape the box and wander off, (Donnie is asleep so he doesn't follow them) being found by Tim Dunkman, (the crazy basketball billionaire from the Air Turtle episode) who sells Mikey to Jessica Jacyln (the referee from the wrestling episode) and keeps Leo for himself. Eventually Alex Noe (The dentist from the todd scouts episode) finds Donnie alone in a box crying his tiny little heart out and brings him home to raise him.

Personalities:

Leo was raised with little worth other than publicity and as a money maker, which had Leo end up as not only a rich kid, but an insecure people pleasing anxious rich kid who hides behind money, ego, and his stupid fucking sunglasses. he's (and Mikey, tbh) big with always trying to keep his image up, so he doesn't get mauled by media. This means that while Raph and Donnie are totally okay with breaking the law on the surface (No consequences, Donnie lives in the woods and Raph lives in the hidden city), Leo is strongly against it.

Raph was raised as a ruthless criminal, but he still has his morals and high empathy. He won't rob orphanages or schools with his dads and likely tried to adopt stray animals a lot (didn't really work out most of the time) He's the only one who really remembers his brothers, but it's a really faint memory, more like "I feel like there's other things like me out there" then "I have brothers." He's constantly on the lookout for other turtles (And used to attend the battle nexus regularly, but the feeling of recognition he got from looking at the rat-man champion freaked him out and he stopped)

Donnie is like, actually insane with the dentists. He really embraced his evil scientist side growing up, but more evil dentist. A lot of experiments and accidents with his teeth happened when he was younger, and now his teeth are all fucked up and weird, so he wears a facemask 24/7 to hide it. He's my insane little blorbo, on instinct he checks everyone's mouth the SECOND he meets them and has absolutely zero qualms about just stickin his hands in there (He always has clean three fingered gloves and hand sanitizer handy). He also has no qualms about anesthetizing and kidnapping anyone he meets that has unique teeth. (This is how he meets Raph for the first time)

Mikey is similar to Leo in a lot of ways, except since he's the huge champion of Jessica's ring, he relies more on his fighting/wrestling skills. It's basically what he's built his whole personality on. he will attack anyone on sight if they give the slightest sign of attacking. (this is how him and Donnie's first meeting goes)

Since I thought it was kind of an impossible coincidence that all the turtles in this au would get the same Renaissance names, I gave them all different ones and tbh I think this coincidence is funnier.

Leo: Tim literally just named him after the basketball team. His given name is Viper. He nicknamed himself Leo and likes it better and usually introduces himself as it with certain new people, but his billboards and media and other shit call him Viper. (Including Tim)

Mikey: Given name is Micheal, but stage/wrestling name is Divino and he’s so attached to it that he just introduces himself as Divino most of the time.

Raph: Given name is Ruthless Raphael, and when he meets Donnie and tells him that Donnie’s like “Well that's way too long what If I just call you Raph” and Raph’s like “But :(((( The ruthless part :((((“ and donnie’s like “Okay compromise what if I call you Raph and it sounds the same but if you spell it out it’s RRaph with two r’s” and then RRaph’s cool with it

Donnie: Only one where his actual given name is Donatello, but he has a lot more titles. Since dentists are technically doctors he calls himself “Dr Donnie” (Even though he’s 1. Two young for any kind of certificate or doctorate 2. Wouldn’t be able to get one anyway (turtle) but it doesn’t really matter the whole dentist gang is super illegal anyway no one really cares) and he has a whole rehearsed introduction that he says every time he meets someone that goes kind of like “My name is Donatello, Dr Donnie, or Dentitello, but you can just call me Donnie” or something stupid like that. And the first time he meets Leo Leo interrupts him in the middle of it and Donnie is REALLY offended. (Dentitello is a nickname given to him by his little nephew)(I could ramble about his nephew and the relations between everyone in the dentist gang[although its more like a coven] but this is not the place)

Designs (Because I can't draw very well yet and I'm much better at describing things anyway):

Leo: Literally just a mini Dunkman (same sunglasses/gold rings n shit). He wears a similar outfit that he does in the Air Turtle episode but with a letterman jacket over it and without those stupid ugly ass fucking goggles.

RRaph: He has wrappings on his hands like HG and a red jacket like LL. He has a red bandana, but it’s tattered and dirty because 1. It was a gift from MM and he hardly ever takes it off and 2. It was ripped from an old t-shirt so it looks a little wonky and you can see some of the seams and the faded design that used to be on it. He wears it around his neck like a scarf, and has a red hat like Danny has on his head. He has a bunch of scars all over his arms and. Well. everywhere tbh (he lives on the streets with some of the most notorious criminals in the hidden city he’s gotta have gotten hurt multiple times) He also probably has parts of his shell broken or chipped off. Overall just very battle worn but he’s still a softie even though he won’t hesitate to kill you (As long as you’re not a child and have done something worth being killed) <3

Mikey: He really leans into the wrestler persona, to the point he wears his costume almost 24/7. His mask and gloves look a little something like these:

Except yk. a little more high quality and fitted to his unique turble body. (the gloves being more orange). He probably puts a bunch of gold and orange stickers on his shell and plastron to match the theme.

Donnie: His battle shell and all of his weapons are tooth/mouth themed. He got way into SFX makeup at one point when he was a kid and his magnum opus project he made while in that stage was his main battle shell that he wears around the dentists. he designed it basically to look like teeth are just growing out of his back while also giving significant protection. He has others but they're mostly plain purple or white. His goggles are more the same that they are in canon except less crooked and whiter.

This might be a bit long since I have a lot of questions-

1. Does behind the hockey mask Casey ever struggled to get his family by? Like I'm going to assume he pays the apartment bills, does he ever struggle with to pay?

2. What was April's reaction when she first meet Casey in your Raph adopts feral cat Casey au? I mean he's a 14 year old that acts like a cat and is kinda quiet.

3. Do you remember that one episode were the 7 are fighting Super Shredder and he trys to throws Raph off a building. The only reason why Raph didn't fly off the building was because Casey skated in between Raph and the ledge. Well Casey ends up flying off the building and almost falls to his death, but he managed the grappled hooked himself to a balcony barely though. What if he's grapple hook failed? (I like angst)

There was another question but I can't remember it...oh well :)

1. Yup yes he does.

I mean Casey basically lost both his parents and had to raise Angel when he was 12.

So you can imagine it was hard for him to get money.

Not many people wanted to hire a 12 year old. And he had to figure out how to pay said bills.

It took a while before he could get to where he is now, and he got fired multiple times from jobs.

For being unable to show up to his shifts, either he was bad injured, passed out, his dad having the mother of all hangovers and needed looking after or just being unable to get Angel a babysitter.

And it's gotten, somewhat easier with Angel being older but she's still a kid.

But Casey worries about money a lot, he works in sketchy areas and odd hours, some treat him like a nuisance, others pretend he's invisible.

Few actually see a scared kid, like Mr Murakami and allow him to bring Angel with him and slip him tips at the end of the night with leftovers.

And that's without mentioning that Arnold has stole Casey's money for rent and food at times to go hit the bar.

So Casey has to hide it too.

2. Hehe their meeting was actually a reunion.

See April knew Casey, sorta.

They went to the same school as kids, they didn't know each other but they were aware of who the other was.

Like not friends but in the same class sorta thing.

And at times saw him wandering about and just... Befriended him by sharing her snacks with him.

Because that's what she did with stray cats so... Why not a person?

Food = love

And just yeah got him to see she wasn't a threat and she would talk about who knows what.

Sometimes asking him questions but he never answered so she stopped.

Casey never really responded, just nomming on the snack. But he always met her in the same spot.

She was very worried when he went poof.

When they met the turtles were trying to give her a talk like what to expect and hey our friend is a lil different but he's very sweet you just gotta be patient.

... Only for Casey to light up, wander over and nuzzle her cheek.

Which made her giggle and hug him like Casey!

3. That scene is like, embedded in my brain.

I like to think he'd make it, but be horribly injured fighting through on pure adrenaline because of the rush of the fight.

Uses last of his strength to close the rubbish disposal crusher... Thingy on Shredder after Splinters passing.

Everyone is so busy looking at mourning Splinter they don't notice.

Or the blood that quickly spilling from Casey's trembling body.

Raphs the first.

Running to him and steading him as Casey sways and falls into his arms.

"Can't hurt... You now..."

He wheezes.

That's when they all see Shredders corpse.

"Case..."

"Raph.."

"I'm here, Casey I'm here."

Casey blinks and pokes his cheek with a giggle but Raph is pained.

"Tell.. Angel... Love her"

"Tell her yourself, asshole." He says but the bite is gone.

"Raph"

"I'm here, still here Jones."

"H-hur..." Casey coughs up blood onto his hand.

Raph feels his own run cold.

Begging Casey to stay with them as they begin to get him and Leo to safety.

Casey ends up blacking out, barely able to make a weak peace sign before his arm drops still.

And you could have it he dies from his injuries in Raphs arms.

And what I prefer 😅

Casey falls into his own coma. Donnie works so hard to stabilise him, but much like Leo no one knows if its enough.

Leo everyone knows hell wake up, it's just the wait that's killing them.

Casey tho... Casey's lucky to be alive.

Casey's body is covered with injuries.

It hits them how lucky he is to have survived this long.

How much he's done for them.

Unlike Leo, Casey wakes up at times, barely aware and not even knowing where he is.

Sometimes he's begging for his dad to stop.

Sometimes he's comforting Angel.

And other times staring blankly.

He's never awake for long.

He wakes up properly after Leo does.

I like to think he pulls an Oracle from Batman, unable to fight so much anymore he works on his tech know how and is the guy in the chair.

Tho it takes him a long while to get to being okay with that.

Casey Jones has always been a fighter.

When he thought he was done for he protected his people, his family, avenged Leo and Splinter.

Just him being the one to be helped now, and just having long term issues and disabilities such as having frequent migraines, losing his hearing and having chronic pain because he can't boubce back from it all like nothing anymore.

Raph having to deal with that guilt and doing his darndest to help him thro it.

Casey having to accept help, feeling powerless, grieving himself and learning to accept help and that he's not okay.

And he and Leo supporting each other because they both find understanding in the other.

The protector being the protected.

(Casey still drives speed Demon tho, he'd do anything for the others. I'd say Donnie was the OG driver but after he got possessed Casey took the wheel.

He luckily didn't get hurt any worse.)

After moving in together, you and mikey decided to adopt stray animals and have rescued all kind of animals by now. April has made a story on that and published it too.

Whatever you knit, he will beg to wear first!. You have knitted all sorts of apparelsfor him, from scarfs to socks. He lovess to wear them whenever possible and shows off to raph about it(then getting smacked in the head by raph)

When he comes to you or when u go to meet him, you always bring homemade snacks for him. This lil bundle of sunshine loves them. Suddenly pizza isnt his fav food anymore. He will eat anything and everything you bake/cook for him. He will try to tell you how delicious they are with his mouthful, so the words come out as "mgshdgdhsjjs" and u cant help but laugh at him gleefully.

Dates will include movie nights with later candle lit dinner. Sometimes he brings magnolia flowers bcus he knows u love them. He even made a crown out of it and made u wear it on ur first anniversary. You cried tears of joy.

When out for shopping, you guys will check every store,specially the pet shops ans toy store. You guys even bought matching necklaces and matching shirts. (Aww so cute)

Staying in during winters with a mug of hot coffee in both of ur hand as you are leaning on his shoulder with the warm blanket covering your feets while watching movies.

Human turts, anyone? :D

I have lots of head canons about them and will probably post a sketch dump later, but here’s a quick overview:

Because of the way their birthdays fall, Leo, Raph and Donnie all started kindergarten together with Raph being the oldest in the class and the other two being the youngest. This carried on through school, and they are currently in 9th grade together.

Raph is 15, and prides himself in being the only one with a driver’s permit - even though that means he constantly has to help their dad out in chauffeuring the boys around. He’s gotten into a few scraps at school - namely with this one Casey guy that keeps showing up in his life - but ultimately is a sweet kid that will always step in to help others.

Leo and Donnie are 14 years old, and are identical twins - though they have several visible markers that keep people from getting them mixed up.

Donnie was born with scoliosis and wears a back brace under his clothes most of the time. He’s a bit self conscious about it, but with a few modifications and Mikey’s help (more later), he’s started taking it in stride. At school he takes part in theater, but he’s more passionate about inventing and coding. He’s constantly starting new projects, and has even managed to capitalize on his hobby by creating a small business coding websites. Early on in his schooling he was given the option to skip a grade or two, but rejected the opportunity because it would have separated him from his brothers. Despite this, he takes several online classes and as a high school freshman has managed to complete a year and a half of college credit.

Leo was born with vitiligo, giving him his “racing stripes” as Mikey affectionately nicknamed them. He’s a skilled athlete, taking part in their school’s track and basketball teams. While he can definitely be too cocky for his own good, he’s slowly learning to humble himself... slowly. Despite his generally outgoing nature in public, Leo also has a quieter side at home. He loves gardening and recently got into meditation (”hippy junk”, according to Donnie). He and Raph squabble quite a bit, as well as he and Donnie, so Leo has declared Mikey to be his favorite brother on more than one occasion.

Mikey is the youngest of the bunch at 13. Despite his goofball nature, Mikey is actually quite intelligent and even managed to skip 8th grade, placing him in the same class as the other guys - a fact that he has mixed feelings about. He loves painting, skateboarding, and swimming - and has attempted to do all three at once, with limited success. He’s also big on gymnastics, and even managed to land a position as the only boy on the school’s cheerleading team. In his free time, he loves to cook and beg their dad to let him adopt every stray animal that he meets (there may or many not be a litter of kittens under his bed).

THE MUTANTS IN NEW YORK AU: A BREAK DOWN

This AU takes the idea from the end of Out of the Shadows and runs with it. Instead of them declining the offer for “normal lives” the boys take the police up on their offer, after negotiations of course. As the boys had saved the city, twice at this point but only once officially so that Vern can keep his status, they wanted more than just to be “allowed” to come topside. The city agreed to their requests and the boys now have a secure place to live and multiple sources of income.

The city gave them a few blocks worth of buildings, everything over their lair, to do with as they wish as long as they followed the laws of the US and the City of New York. Donatello worked to reinforce the security in and surrounding the lair as it can always be a fall back point in the event of a disaster of some sort. His efforts combined with his brothers and their new resources have turned the lair into a nigh impenetrable bunker. They only go down there to check on it once a month and restock anything that has run low.

A centrally located building, the tallest one, is now their home. Each turtle has their own floor of the building with shared space at the top. Due to their need for more space, each “floor” is actually two stories as the dividing floor between the two has been removed. This gives them each a living space with somewhere around 26 feet of clearance. This allows Mike to use his rocket board easily in his own living space.

They have all designed, and decorated their living areas to their liking. Above their floors is the dojo, hashi, and meditation area, Splinter’s living quarters, and a rooftop greenhouse. Somehow Splinter managed to convince the city to let him have a full grown tree up there.

The buildings surrounding their home they have allowed small businesses to move in. The rest is in various stages of development as their wants and needs continue to change over time. It is also where other mutants sometimes live.

After shredder disappeared, Baxter broke out of prison and vowed vengeance on everyone that had ever bothered him in his life. Boy had a serious mental breakdown and is pretty much coo-coo for coco puffs. One part of his revenge was digging out the leftover mutagen, re-configuring it into an aerosol, and trying to douse the whole city. He didn’t get far, but thousands of people were changed and the city was in the grips of chaos.

Splinter and his family stepped in and offered the newly changed individuals refuge, homes, jobs, anything they could need if they found themselves suddenly without. Some people that were changed were easily and readily accepted by their friends, family, and employments. However, others were shunned and attacked for what they had become.

Years were spent fighting for mutant rights and equality, a struggle that still is going forward to today. However, it’s been over a decade and life has settled in. The boys are in their 30’s now, and while Splinter is still their master, Leonardo has taken over as head of the clan. Raphael has been at peace with this for many years, realizing it wasn’t leadership that he wanted but to know where he really fit in with his brothers.

Each of them has gone through trials of self discovery and come out the other side stronger, better, and far more mature.

Raph may still have a temper and he still fights with Leo, but not for the same reasons that he used to. Raphael runs a a garage for retrofitting vehicles for mutant use, he also assists Don with many of his projects and owns a few bars and clubs with Mike.

Leonardo runs a dojo, as well as a yoga parlor, and a spa retreat. He has a building and a small outdoor area for this business and spends whatever time he can running it when he isn’t leading the campaign for mutant rights and running his clan.

Donatello is free to create and invent, owning several patents and contributing a majority of new found wealth to their already considerable funds. While Don does spend most of his time in his new lab, he takes far better care of himself than he used to. No longer plagued with the worry that he had to work constantly to keep his family safe, he can take his time with his projects and spend a bit more time relaxing and just living his life.

Michelangelo now, as always, has the freedom to do as he pleases he just chooses to be more responsible with that time. While he did spend a few years partying almost constantly to make up for lost time, he has calmed down a bit. Owning and running a few clubs in the mutant district, Mike has also become a crazy cat lady and has adopted more strays than his brothers think is healthy.
