Do you ever think about how all of the major people in Fitz’s life represented different things to him? Like,

Beloved-true companionship with someone who can accept the parts of himself he usually prefers to keep hidden

Kettricken-his identity as a Farseer prince

Chade-his life in the shadows; being a bastard, a spy, and an assassin

Molly-normalcy; the life he would have led if he wasn’t a Farseer or the Catalyst

Nighteyes-living in the now and disregarding all of the complex circumstances of his life

Burrich-his Wit and all of the shame and fear that comes with it for him

Bee and Nettle-fatherhood and his various failings (though his storyline with Nettle is more about his relationship with Molly while with Bee it’s more about his relationship with Beloved)

Dutiful-the role he often plays as a hero and a mentor to the younger generation, even when he doesn’t want it

Starling-the depressed hermit who hides from the world and from himself (she always gets the worst of him)

Patience-what it’s like to have an actual caring parental figure

Assassin's quest in the end is just the Fool healing Fitz, touching foreheads and making romantic speeches, Fitz going to fool oh, you're so cold, caring for him, snuggling him to keep him warm, carrying him over falling stones like the Fool's the swooning maiden and he's the overly-muscled love interest (he is), playing water-fights with him and laughing at his dick jokes while starling is glaring knowingly at them in the background. There's something about road trips that make them act like they are in a whole other romantic subplot.
