Alexandrite Dragon ———————————————— 'Many of the czars' lost jewels can be found in the scales of this priceless dragon. Its creator remains a mystery, along with how they acquired the imperial treasures. But whosoever finds this dragon has hit the jackpot... whether they know it or not.' ———————————————— Can Be Found In: Photon Shockwave Sneak Peek (PHSW-ENSP1), Photon Shockwave (PHSW-EN000), Starter Deck: Xyz Symphony (YS12-EN001), Battle Pack 2: War of the Giants (BP02-EN004), Saga of Blue-Eyes White Dragon Structure Deck (SDBE-EN003), Starter Deck Kaiba - Reloaded (YSKR-EN011), Realm of Light Structure Deck (SDLI-EN001), Legendary Decks II (LDK-ENK12)
Although the card game mainly focused arround Normal Monsters in its first years, these creatures are too limited when comes to card design arround them. Due their lack of abilities most Normal Monsters shares the same roles and options, overall reducing the card pool to those with better stats to fit a proper Deck. Leaving behind hundreds of monsters obsolete by the constant powercreep, it was unavoidable Effect Monsters took over the game as Normal Monsters compensates their flaws with certain advantages the majority can't replicate.
Almost every Type has a Level 4 Normal Monster that breaks the status quo with incredible base stats, and "Alexandrite Dragon" is the card representing the Dragon-Type. With 2000 ATK this monster easily becomes a poweful choice to break through enemies and/or deal solid damage to our opponent. And while unfortunately might not be as different as other Normal Monsters in terms of efficiency if working together, the differences when we applied its Type makes "Alexandrite Dragon" obtain some additional benefits arround either Normal Monsters or other Dragons.
Normal Monsters overall shares the same valuable options to make them viable arround each other, but due some differences in certain traits "Alexandrite Dragon" obtains some other benefits to stand out on its own. Right from inside our Deck "Alexandrite Dragon" can come out thanks to cards like "Unexpected Dai" and "Rescue Rabbit", the latter summoning two copies to potentially use as materials. A safer option is to add it to our hand with the help of "Painful Decision" or "Dragoons of Draconia" for later use, while in late game cards like "Swing of Memories" and "Silent Doom" will constantly revive it for any purpose. The true differences arround "Alexandrite Dragon" compared to other Normal Monsters is when its Dragon-Type is applied arround its resources, gaining the help of cards like "Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon" and the Hieratic archetype to further increase our chances to Special Summon it.
"Alexandrite Dragon" can be played as any other Normal Monster or to support its own Type, all obviously depending of the Deck itself. With many options to summon Normal Monsters with ease, "Alexandrite Dragon" along other high ATK creatures can pressure the opponent as cards like "Skill Drain" and "Heat Wave" restricts their options. More particularly copies itself and "Mekk-Knight Avram", as thanks to their LIGHT Attribute they gain support from "Honest" inside our hand to overcome any stronger enemies in the middle of a battle. Arround its own Type "Alexandrite Dragon" might not provide much any other Dragons already cover, but if anything it can assist on the summon of "Lightpulsar Dragon" and/or "Darkflare Dragon" by banishing itself in our Graveyard.
As the strongest Normal Monster of its Type and Level "Alexandrite Dragon" already obtains a wonderful role in aggro strategies to pressure the opponent as well assist us in all sorts of setups. With many options to lead Duels and be summoned from early to late game, "Alexandrite Dragon" along other strong Normal Monsters can corner the opponent in no time. However, while "Alexandrite Dragon" can be played along other Dragons, the Type is one of the most supported out there with many themes and archetypes perfectly covering any purpose "Alexandrite Dragon" could provide by equal or better efficiency. Compared to other 2000 ATK Normal Monsters "Alexandrite Dragon" might be overshadowed on options arround its kind, but with constant support from many cards and effects will still stand out in Decks that will fit in.
Personal Rating: A-
+ High ATK + Greatly supported from early to late game
- Will rely on other cards and effects - Dragon-Type already has plenty of options to assure it a spot among them

Still tryna build a deck, by the way.
I started out with a Blue Eyes White Dragon Saga structure deck (don’t you say a word), and after a few rounds testing it against my brother, it seems a little unbalanced. Not a lot of monsters up to Level 4, and the ones that are there can’t really hold their own in a battle, as they’re pretty much just there for the sole purpose of getting BWD out on the field. The same is true of the spells and traps, although they are hella fun to play and really satisfying when they work.
So I’m trying to balance it out a little more, adding less complicated spells/traps and improving its defense. Also, I’m not bothering too much with fusion/synchro/xyes right now while I’m still new to the game (and so is my brother), so I’m swapping out some of the 5+ level monsters too for some that are easier to bring out.
And I did order a Red Eyes Black Dragon for the lulz a couple weeks ago, but I’m starting to think it might be lost in the mail, it was expected to deliver before Halloween. :/

Monster Reborn ———————————————— Target 1 monster in either player's Graveyard; Special Summon it. ———————————————— Can Be Found In: Starter Deck: Yugi Evolution (SYE-029), Starter Deck: Kaiba Evolution (SKE-029), Dark Beginning 1 (DB1-EN133), Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon (LOB-EN118), Hobby League 7 (HL07-EN001), Duelist Pack: Yugi (DPYG-EN019), Legendary Collection 3: Yugi's World Mega Pack (LCYW-EN058), Battle Pack 2: War of the Giants (BP02-EN128), Saga of Blue-Eyes White Dragon Structure Deck (SDBE-EN028), Legendary Collection 4: Joey's World Mega Pack (LCJW-EN060), Yugi's Legendary Decks (YGLD-ENA23, YGLD-ENB16, YGLD-ENC24), The Lost Art Promotion (LART-EN001), Starter Deck: Yugi (SDY-030), Starter Deck: Kaiba (SDK-036), Starter Deck: Joey (SDJ-035), Starter Deck: Pegasus (SDP-035), Dark Legends (DLG1-EN017), Retro Pack (RP01-EN016)
The Graveyard quickly became a core resource for many players to rely on almost immediately from early game. Thanks to milling effects and other methods to dispose of monsters, revival effects became a must have tool for many Decks to reuse monsters as well ease the summon of some of our strongest options. Either dumping powerful monsters for an immediate arrival or exploiting cheap revival effects to constantly gather materials, many Decks tries to counter the Graveyard in some way or another due the dependance many Decks have on the many exploits they can work with.
"Monster Reborn" was the first and still strongest revival effect in the entire game, with no restrictions whatsoever given the fact other banned cards got rewritten effects upon their return from a forbidden status. By just its mere activation "Monster Reborn" allows us to revive any monster from any Graveyard to our side of the field, having all kinds of uses and possibilities depending of the circumstances. In a game where many Decks abuse the Graveyard by reviving monsters for all sorts of setups and summons, "Monster Reborn" is just another card they can depend on in addition of some uses as a counter given that can revive opponent's monsters if needed.
The uses of "Monster Reborn" are quite similar to many other revival effects that were released after it, with some small yet important liberties. By default we can keep "Monster Reborn" ready to revive a powerful yet defeated monster, specially in the case of those that were in the Extra Monster Zone so they come back and leave that area free for other Extra Deck summons. In other cases we can instead rush preparatives by disposing key monsters to the Graveyard, ranging from "Foolish Burial" and Lightsworn monsters milling our Deck to using potential "Monster Reborn" targets to pay costs from our hand such as "Trade-In". Other use is to immediately revive a monster that was just used as material to aim for a more expensive summon, ranging from a Synchro Summon with a higher Level to Link Monsters working arround their Rating. Similarly, "Monster Reborn" can revive virtually any monster available in any Graveyard to not only that kind of summons but also Tribute Summons, specially useful if we work along shortcuts such as "Gellenduo" of "Double Coston" among many others. Let's not forget that "Monster Reborn" can revive opponent's monsters, not only stealing key options if any (Specially if we can use them as a Xyz material so stays with us) but assuring a potential target in case our Graveyard is empty of targets. Combined with thematic revival effects depending of the Deck's theme, ranging from target effects like "Black Salvo" or "Book of Life" to swarming effects like "Tri-Wight" and "Rekindling", "Monster Reborn" will soon keep the momentum along the rest of our tools to keep reviving monsters turn after turn.
From reviving powerful monster to stealing from the opponent's Graveyard, "Monster Reborn" remains one of the most efficient revival cards any player can depend on. With several methods to gather important monsters to our Graveyard and exploitable setups that goes from Tribute Summon to the many Extra Deck options, "Monster Reborn" is as important as any other revival effect that took over its position during the various years that was banned. If anything "Monster Reborn" might have lost some prevalence in certain Decks due the many replacements that took over, some of them allowing the user to revive several monsters at once without much effort. Yet, with the ability to revive any monster from any Graveyard for any purpose at the moment, "Monster Reborn" might not fill boards like more thematic alternatives but is still a powerful card with tons of possibilites arround its usability.
Personal Rating: A+
+ Revives any monster from any Graveyard + A lot of preparatives and uses arround it depending of the Deck and current circumstances
- Might be overshadowed by revival effects able to swarm the board on their own

Maiden with Eyes of Blue ———————————————— When this card is targeted for an attack: You can negate the attack, and if you do, change the battle position of this card, then you can Special Summon 1 "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" from your hand, Deck, or Graveyard. During either player's turn, when a card or effect is activated that targets this face-up card: You can Special Summon 1 "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" from your hand, Deck, or Graveyard. You can only use 1 "Maiden with Eyes of Blue" effect per turn, and only once that turn. ———————————————— Can Be Found In: Saga of Blue-Eyes White Dragon Structure Deck (SDBE-EN006), Legendary Decks II (LDK2-ENK06)
"Blue-Eyes White Dragon" is undoubtly the most supported monster in the whole game. Due its massive popularity and the strongest Normal Monster since the game's debut, this Dragon gained a huge pool  of cards to make it an always useful card no matter the build and the situation. Some Decks will simply use it to pay costs and big summons, but others will completely invest in its pressence thanks to the many ways to summon it from early to late game. With two archetypes working together to achieve its peak performance, "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" will always find a way to be on the field for any purpose required.
"Maiden with Eyes of Blue" is one of the various members belonging to the Eyes of Blue archetype, creatures with the sole purpose of supporting "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" in one way or another. In the case of "Maiden", if she's attacked will negate the battle and change battle position, resulting in the summon of "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" for anywhere (Except banished). The same summon will happen if "Maiden" is targetted by an effect while face-up, and this will be the main option we will rely on in most circumstances. While her effects seems that will try to counter opponent actions, the second effect of "Maiden" can be triggered by our own effects and thus taking full advantage of not only interactions with our own cards but also her Tuner status to summon Synchro Monsters with the just brought "Blue-Eyes White Dragon".
Due the heavy investment towards "Blue-Eyes White Dragon", Eyes of Blue monsters don't have many options to support each other without contaminating the build with tools outside their theme. But that doesn't mean that is hard to get "Maiden" as soon as possible, as by the mere Normal Summon of "Sage with Eyes of Blue" we can quickly obtain her in our hand as a result. Since all Eyes of Blue members are Level 1, "One for One" becomes a wonderful searching option to obtain "Maiden" straight on the field ready to go. If she's already in our hand, cards like "Mausoleum of White" and "Protector with Eyes of Blue" will give us an additional summon so "Maiden" is not alone on the field. When comes to the Graveyard we can add to the mix "Kinka-Byo" so constantly revives "Maiden" and other Eyes of Blue for cheap Extra Deck summons, but in most cases "Master with Eyes of Blue" will add her back to our hand for a later use.
While "Maiden" can save herself from a single attack during the opponent's turns, is her second effect that will take the spotlight as the main card to summon "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" in one way or another. Any effect that targets "Maiden" will cause to "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" to come out to the field, and while that is a threat towards the opponent's actions in the majority of cases will be ourselves the cause of this ability to activate. Virtually any card that targets her will make the summon happen, ranging from equipment by "Wonder Wand" and "Moon Mirror Shield" to chainable activations such as "Forbidden Lance" and "Majesty with Eyes of Blue". Eyes of Blue are no exception as many of their effects are about targetting each other to gain benefits arround "Blue-Eyes White Dragon", mainly towards "Maiden" to obtain the Dragon in their own ways along her effect. Keep on mind that "Maiden" effect triggers immediately she's targetted by an effect as starts a chain before it resolves, so even if she's about to be retired from the field by an effect like "Protector with Eyes of Blue" or "Sage with Eyes of Blue" we will still obtain "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" right before the targetting effect concludes. But if she remains on the field after all, we will take advantage of her status as a Tuner to work with the summoned "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" to bring Synchro Monsters like "Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon" and "Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon" right from our first turns.
"Maiden with Eyes of Blue" is completely dependant of other cards including the opponent's, but with the many effects able to trigger her effect makes the risk to enter into battle near impossible to happen. From coverage to other Eyes of Blue cards interacting with "Maiden", no matter if is early or late game we'll obtain a cheap method to obtain "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" in one way or another. Her complete lack of stats makes her an easy target even if she's able to protect herself by summoning "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" in the process, but in most cases if she's not preparing a Synchro Summon some of the targetting effects will send her to the Graveyard for other purposes as we obtain the Dragon in the process. Overall, despite her clear flaws "Maiden" easily becomes the main engine of her own archetype as Eyes of Blue cards constantly targets her for other Blue-eyes mechanics or works with other effects outside the theme for other benefits.
Personal Rating: A
+ Negates an attack targetting her to change battle position and summon "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" + Summons "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" if is targetted by an effect + Greatly supported on her arrival and triggering her effects
- Poor stats - Completely relies on other cards to work - Battle effect will have almost no uses

Blue-Eyes White Dragon ———————————————— 'This legendary dragon is a powerful engine of destruction. Virtually invincible, very few have faced this awesome creature and lived to tell the tale.' ———————————————— Can Be Found In: Starter Deck: Kaiba Evolution (SKE-001), Dark Beginning 1 (DB1-EN098), Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon (LOB-EN001), Forbidden Legacy (FL1-EN001), Anniversary Pack (YAP1-EN001), Duelist League 2010 (DL09-EN001), Duelist Pack: Kaiba (DPKB-EN001), Legendary Collection (LC01-EN004), Dragons Collide Structure Deck (SDDC-EN004), Gold Series: Haunted Mine (GLD5-EN001), Saga of Blue-Eyes White Dragon Structure Deck (SDBE-EN001), Starter Deck Kaiba - Reloaded (YSKR-EN001), Premium Goild: Return of the Bling (PGL2-EN080), Duelist Pack: Battle City (DPBC-EN016), Yu-Gi-Oh! One main feature of the card game and the franchise overall is how it keeps old yet famous creatures having a prevalent use among many Decks. With more than 20 years in the market starting only as the OCG, keeps fan favorites on the spotlight no matter how much the game changed by introducing new rules and mechanics. From obtaining counterparts to compensate the original's weaknesses to gaining an entire archetype of its own, if a card is famous enough among the fanbase soon or later will keep gaining new options to keep the pace against current strategies.
"Blue-Eyes White Dragon"is undoubtly the most famous monster in the entire franchise, staying on the peak of its kind as the strongest Normal Monster in the game for two decades. Due its iconic status in both the series and the card game "Blue-Eyes" keeps its prevalence right from its debut, starting back when all the game had to offer was Normal Monsters to the present where most builds focuses on Extra Deck setups. This is thanks to the constantly growing number of options "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" can work along with, making it a flexible creature able to cover both offense and all sorts of setups as a material of costs and bigger setups. While not seem much different to other old school monsters like "Dark Magician" and "Red-Eyes B. Dragon", "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" has several privileges that makes it a valuable creature regardless if is the main focus of the Deck or is supporting other themes with its pressence.
Almost every year "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" gains at least a pair of new tools to work along with and become available right from our very first turn, pretty much becoming the most supported creature in the whole game by a massive margin. Starting from searching effects to add "Blue-Eyes" into our hand by "The Melody of Awakening Dragon" and "The White Stone of Legend" among others, while "Paladin of Felgrand" will instead equip "Blue-Eyes" on himself to later on be revived. Despite the high Level of "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" there are several ways to summon it straight from the Deck without any effort, ranging from disposing "The White Stone of Ancients" to Eyes of Blue monsters targetting each other with effects to bring out "Blue-Eyes" in the process. Alternatively "Blue-Eyes" can work along the Hieratic archetype, monsters that by tributing themselves will summon Normal Monsters for their Xyz Summons and other purposes. But "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" will really stand out once hits the Graveyard, not only doing so by milling effects like "Dragon Shrine" and "Elemental HERO Prisma" but also by the dozens of revival options at our diposition. Several copies of "Silver's Cry", "Return of the Dragon Lords", and "Swing of Memories" will constantly bring back "Blue-Eyes" and any other copies turn after turn, Traps like "Birthright" and "Call of the Haunted" can answer the opponent's actions with its sudden pressence, and monsters such as "Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon" and "Divine Dragon Lord Felgrand" will bring it back to work together under their respective circumstances.
While "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" has an archetype of its own, due the several tools arround it we can fit it in all sorts of builds and have an important role depending of the situation on the Duel. "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" easily becomes the main cost of "Trade-In" to draw cards with in many Decks, specially due "The White Stone of Legend" searching for it after taking the same purpose by the effect of "Cards of Consonance". As any Normal Monster "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" easily can work as material for all sorts of setups, using its high Level for Rank 8 Xyz Summons and expensive Synchro Summons. Obviously that includes its own counterparts, working along Fusion options and/or being banished from the Graveyard by "Dragon's Mirror" to bring powerful Fusion Monsters such as "Neo Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon" and "Blue-Eyes Twin Burst Dragon". The same goes for Ritual Summons, not only with "Advanced Ritual Art" using "Blue-Eyes" right inside our Deck but also "Chaos Form" using it in our Graveyard as material for "Blue-Eyes Chaos MAX Dragon". Obviously as a Normal Monster with many ways to be summoned from early to late game and its high ATK, we can work along cards like "Skill Drain" and "Heat Wave" to restrict common strategies while cards like "Honest" cover us against any stronger enemies.
From simply providing drawing support to taking a classic approach with its high stats, "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" remains a powerful creature by two decades of gaining effects with sinergy and exclusive cards to create its own archetype. Starting the first years as one of the main targets for "Monster Reborn", the current "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" is a flexible creature that takes all sorts of purposes with zero effort required in all kinds of themes and builds to work along with. One turn can be the core material for big summons including its several counterparts, while in other will take advantage of the many Special Summons at its disposition to keep the pressure even in the worst scenarios. Obviously as any Normal Monster "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" is extremely dependant of the cards assisting it on its many objectives, but even when compared to other classic monsters with support of their own is very rare for the most famous monster in the game to not have a chance to come to the field for any goal we're aiming at the moment. As technically the mascot of the whole franchise, "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" remains prevalent no matter what Decks or new strategies must face against.
Personal Rating: A+
+ The strongest Normal Monster in the game + The most supported monster in the game with many summoning options and an archetype of its own + All sorts of purposes depending of the situation and the Deck is working with
- Completely dependant of other cards to work efficiently

Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon ———————————————— You can Special Summon this card (from your hand) by banishing 1 face-up Dragon-Type monster you control. Once per turn: You can Special Summon 1 Dragon-Type monster from your hand or Graveyard, except "Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon". ———————————————— Can Be Found In: Absolute Powerforce: Special Edition (ABPF-ENSE1), Dragons Collide Structure (SDDC-EN013), Legendary Collectio  4: Joey's World Mega Pack (LCJW-EN050), Rise of the True Dragons Structure Deck (SR02-EN009), Duelist Saga (DUSA-EN068), Shonen Jump February 2009 subscription bonus (JUMP-EN030), Duel Terminal 4 (DT04-EN060)
Due the card game's open format, many cards have a good chance to either become powerful in future releases or become immediate staples for all sorts of Decks. The latter is both an advantage and disadvantage when comes to game design, as by reprinting the card allows more players to obtain valuable cards in a budget, but also make creativity more stagnant unless there are stronger options. While not every card remains a must have as more themes are released and the competitive scene evolves, a powerful card can stay for years arround the Decks that interacts with and almost never seen replaced by other alternatives.
"Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon" quickly become one of the most powerful cards a Dragon player can depend on due a combination of easy availability and assistance on all kinds of setups. "Darkness Metal" can be summoned like many other high Level monsters, yet alternatively allow us to Special Summon it from the hand by banishing a Dragon on our field.Once per turn, "Darkness Metal" will allow us to Special Summon a Dragon from the hand or Graveyard  (Except own copies, which isn't a problem nowadays due its limited status), becoming a powerful creature able to bring nearly every other Dragon in the game no matter if is at the start of the Duel or in late game. So in resume, with a extremely cheap optional summon together with an also cheap effect to bring other Dragons, "Darkness Metal" is undoubtly a highly valuable monster to all kinds of Dragon Decks no matter if are arround small creatures or other huge powerhouses.
Obviously we want to bring out "Darkness Metal" by its own effect, but don't retaliate from using other options specially if isn't available in our hand. Right from our very first turn, a single Normal Summon of a small Dragon will be more than enough to Special Summon this monster, more than ready to follow with its Special Summon effect to lead the board. The same goes with any Special Summons as well, ranging from Pendulum Summon or cards like "Rescue Rabbit" gathering several Dragons to use one of the for this monster's arrival. While seems that most of its summons will come from our hand that doesn't mean that is unsupported when defeated, as by belonging to the Red-Eyes archetypes obtains assistance from cards like "Red-Eyes Wyvern" and "Red-Eyes Spirit" to constantly come back to our field. But among these archetype cards and other revival effects the one that stands out the most is "Lightpulsar Dragon", a creature with such sinergy arround "Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon" as they constantly revive each other.
With zero restrictions besides nomi monsters, "Darkness Metal" has pretty much the entire Dragon-Type at its disposition to be summoned by its effect. While we can summon Dragons from our hand is most likely that will focus on those in the Graveyard, specially if we use cards such as "Red-Eyes Insight" or "Dragon Shrine" among several other milling effects to gather potential targets to revive right away. As mentioned before "Lightpulsar Dragon" is probably its best candidate to work along with, as in case "Darkness Metal" is defeated "Lightpulsar" will bring it back once leaves to the Graveyard to continue this loop together. But that doesn't mean we can experiment with other Dragons as we can go from small monsters to uses materials for bigger summons, bringing powerhouses such as "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" or "Arkbrave Dragon", to even Extra Deck monsters as long they were properly summoned beforehand.
With one of the cheapest summons in the game and an ability that greatly helps a Type full of high ATK creatures, is evident why "Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon" remains a must have in many Dragon Decks. From our very first turn "Darkness Metal" can be easily brought by banishing any Dragon we can take out to the field, to later on cards like "Lightpulsar Dragon" and other revival effects keeps its field pressence constant against all sorts of dangers. Obviously its position as a limited card damages its availability to make players less dependant of its pressence, but with the many milling and revival effects arround this Type "Darkness Metal" is far from being a dead card under many scenarios. Obviously is a monster that will be in constant danger of all kinds of attacks and removal effects so is not recommended to completely depend on its pressence. However, with the support that helps and is helped by, "Darkness Metal" remains a tough creature to fight against since its debut due all the possibilities arround its effects.
