Season 1 really is just adora wandering around asking “Can I have friends..? Can I at least make sure they’re ok???” and Shadow Weaver and Light Hope going “NO. NO Friends and NO helping friends be ok!!!!!!”

Meanwhile Angella leans in close on adora’s first night in brightmoon to whisper threateningly “oh you had BETTER be friends with my daughter”

and then she's sending her daughter off on missions with adora

and she's sending adora the ex-horde soldier off to go rescue her daughter from the horde

and shooing glimmer off to go after adora even though glimmer is without magic and glitching? but glimmer wants to find adora! and Angella the Overprotective is like "YES good idea, hope this turns out better for you than it did with me and your father, off you go!"

By season’s end she’s pulling Adora into giant wing hug! A group hug! friends and found family hug!!

ADORA IS FROM THE HORDE, THE HORDE IS ATTACKING ANGELLA'S HOME AND 'killed" HER HUSBAND

but glimmer wants to be friends with adora and angella just went "ugh fine then keep her"

And you know what Castaspella’s in the same boat!

Her bother was 'killed' by the horde and here's this ex-horde soldier and glimmer's so excited to introduce her and she brought adora here specially to relax bc she's been Stressed and adora shoots lasers everywhere that cripple mystacor's defenses and something something evil shadow thingy group hug Well That Was A Thing

and Castaspella's reaction to all this is???

these two women who both lost someone they loved to the horde looked at this anxious girl in a horde uniform that glimmer dragged home and were like

"Well of COURSE she can have friends if she wants them. And a family. And a home. And a hug. and glimmer's hand in marriage"

and you know what? I love it

the contrast between them and Light Hope and Shadow Weaver! the basic idea that having friends is important and okay! that trying to decide who someone gets to be friends with, controlling their choices, both when you're doing it for shitty reasons and for what you think are important reasons- is WRONG! No good! BAD. Isolating someone from everyone else they love is wrong! Trying to be the only one in their life is wrong! It hurts them! It leaves them weak and vulnerable and sad!

and Angella didn't want to do that to Glimmer. she didn't even want to do that to a former horde soldier!

the Good Parental Figure bar was so low and she vaulted right over it scooped adora up and kept on running. glimmer smacked shadow weaver in the face and cradled adora in her arms so tenderly all of light hopes plans where foiled, but angella didn't even have to be in the same ROOM to destroy them both utterly in every way that counts
