"Don't you have something better to do than annoy me?" It was less of a yell than a loud snapped remark, but the raised voice had the same effect in the end. Beetlejuice heard the frustration bleeding through Chuck's voice, at knew he had fucked up. He fully expected a blow to follow, and prepared himself before remembering this was Charles', not his m- Not Juno, but it was too late. He knew the other man had seen his flinch. He had seen the regret in Charles' eyes the second the words were out of his mouth, and Beetlejuice knew his hair was an embarrassing white at the tips, could feel the fear creeping up his spine, blanching his hair as it went.

After being snapped at by Charles, Beetlejuice hides on the roof to mope. It doesn't help his mood that it's raining, but he already made his decision so he's staying put. It's not like anyone's looking for him, anyway.

just a note this post is going to have multiple parts because of image limits

you know what yeah i was i joined that server because i was interested in the au but as time went on more and more people came in who didnt exactly contribute anything other than stirring pots like we get it you think you own the fandom and you wanna be the only ones with servers but that aint it

i went from being very active and vocal to entirely silent but i did get screenshots of the peak of the bullshit

i will preface with the fact that beetlebabes content was not allowed in that server however a certain person who you all know decided to join the server despite hating the musical which is what the au was based off of and when that person was there they posted content that wasnt allowed in several occasions

there are simply too many of these screenshots for me to edit to my standards but literally the only person who is discernible is uhhh well you will see im doing this on my phone so i cannot do a proper readmore and for that i am very sorry

lets dig into how what youve just sent me is a load of shit

context for this is that the person with the black username posted a piece of production art that someone had drawn nsfw content in the margins which was obviously against the rules and upset people

nice broad generalization of animators we love that you heard it here folks this person thinks all animators make porn content of children and that notion does not upset them

a continuation of the conversation where its pointed out that childrens cartoons are made by adults and sometimes but not always those adults do things they really shouldnt like draw porn of their 13 year old protagonist which again doesnt seem to be an issue

its at this point where the user in black starts to act more condescending to the people who honestly just wanted the rules followed for their own comfort and the rules apply to all a server is like a private business the moderators have every right to moderate their space and in this space it was asked that pedophilic content not be posted which doesnt just relate to the original transgression but another instance where the user in black posted art of an aged up lydia that were sexual in nature and obviously people were like thats not okay for moral reasons but its also against the rules also this is where the word fascist gets thrown around like its a football

making someone uncomfortable in a fandom space is definitely not nice okay this person is just one of many people who left when the beetlebabe shippers started to cause trouble in that sever

my last statement is that none of the beetlebabes were unkind to me but that was because i never added anything i was just quiet until i left just because no one was mean to me doesnt mean people werent mean condescending and shitty to other people literally when the user in black pretty much said anyone who disagreed with them was an idiot and I can’t fit that screenshot here because of the image limit I’ll add it after the fact for you

Okay more real talk.

You know it's about to get real when I say that. Why would I, a survivor of CSA ship a ship that a lot of people say support that? I don't. It's that easy.

Lydia was a kid/tween/ teen in the 80's/90's when I was also a kid. I started shipping beetlebabes then (I just didn't have the right terms for it at the time) that being said as I aged so did how I depicted Lydia. When I was 7 she was my cool older best friend who was 10 and Beej was her friend. When I was 13 she was 15. Ect.

If you are going to hold real world standards to the Movie/Cartoon/Musical (saying it's ped*philia ect) then you have to agree that as time passes Lydia aged. By that standard I and the rest of the babes are not ped*philes because we are shipping a woman who is by now 30+ (depending she could be almost 40 by now) with an adult man.

Also, it's not grooming because if we are applying real life standards to this Lydia has more power over Beej then he does over her. No matter what argument you come up with she can just send him away when he oversteps boundaries. (3 small words) she has been seen doing this in the cartoon a few times.

So, I kinda got a rebuttal to this ask I had sent to an "anti-shipper." I'm still pretty confused, frustrated, disappointed, and disturbed that a fair number of "anti-shippers" essentially OK’d the statements from Lindsay Ellis shown below. They, rather poorly, attempted to argue that she's not trying to portray all "anti-shippers" as being unreasonable, overly emotional, aggressive pearl clutchers who have their priorities mixed up. Even though that's clearly what she's doing here. She's using the Beetlejuice franchise as an example, a patient zero of sorts, for how "antis" (people critical of positive and romanticized depictions of abuse in media) ruin fandom with what Ellis views as unsolicited antics.

That group of so-called anti shippers also ignored how Ellis shows approval for what she describes as "an asexual couple [that] give off couple vibes." The couple in question are a 12-year-old child (Lydia) and an adult of indeterminate age (Beetlejuice). The implication here is that Ellis views the pair as a romantic couple which should be concerning to supposed antis. Those anti-shippers made no attempt to claim that that would constitute as a pedophilic relationship. And, they didn't seem even the slightest bit disturbed that, at least according to Ellis, the pedophilic ship could be canon to the Beetlejuice cartoon. Albeit, there's no real, hard proof that that's the case, it seems more like wishful thinking on the part of people who ship Lydia and Beetlejuice, but you'd think that anti-shippers would still be alarmed that child grooming and pedophilic child abuse may be being promoted in a children's cartoon.

It stands to reason that if she's fine with the elements of child grooming embedded in a relationship between Beetlejuice and Lydia, it's not a stretch that she'd be alright with shipping something like Sesshomaru and Rin from Inuyasha. Oddly enough if you really think about it, Beetlejuice x Lydia is arguably worse than Sesshomaru x Rin, because it's rumored to be a canon romantic, "asexual" be dammed, relationship between a pre-pubescent girl and a grown man. Even SessRin doesn't have that kind of baggage because canonical shipping has not occurred between Rin as a child and the young adult Sesshomaru. It's strange that these anti-shippers express more ire towards the least substantiated and comparatively less controversial pairing (SessRin) while the more contentious ship basically gets a slide (Beetlebabe). Needless to say, both pairings represent child grooming in a positive way, so they're both atrocious and it's so bizarre that some antis would be so hesitant to admit that.🤷🏽‍♀️ UPDATE 3/21/2021: In retrospect, SessRin is a much worse pairing as to date it's been canonized in Yashahime. Even so, given her comments, it's safe to say that Lindsay Ellis would definitely think SessRin was fine too.

Then, those antis completely neglected the fact that Ellis presents antis here as mostly newbie fans brought in by recent adaptations and are largely interlopers in decades-old fandoms. Such intruders resist the "ship and let ship" way of elder fans and Ellis is not having it. No matter how unfazed she tries to seem about it, she's obviously very upset by what she believes is new fandom presumably spearheaded by those darn young'uns. What I'm saying is she's giving off noxious levels of fandom mom 'tude here. However, yet again the anti-shippers, some of whom practically wrote essay-length retorts, didn't even mention her clear bias against antis and her favor towards pro-shippers.

Lindsay Ellis isn't just passing overly generalized judgment against anti-shippers in the Beetlejuice fandom, she's applying that judgment to all antis across all fandoms. To defend her statements as an anti is antithetical, contradictory, and even hypocritical. If antis side with Lindsay Ellis on these ideas, it really means that they're going against most of what they claim they stand for. And for what? Ellis has a few good takes, so you won’t oppose her in anyway when it's brought to light that she bears a clear resentment towards people who speak out against media that portrays child grooming as attractive and harmless?

Like, yo she don't like people like you, why ya stanning her? She's not only passing judgment on antis who behave badly, those who harrass, bully, make false claims and are overall very abrasive, she dislikes all antis regardless of behavior. Lindsay Ellis wouldn't consider you one of the "good" antis and she'd never want to side with you over her ilk: pro-shippers. If you're an anti with a blog devoted to anti topics, you better believe she wrote this thread to make you feel like an unwanted, purity policing intruder in fan spaces. Geez, also the fact that these "anti-shippers" are pretty tolerant of fans shipping children characters with adult characters is unnerving in how incongruous it is. "When big media corporations OK positive depictions of child grooming it's totally bad, but if fans do it, those depictions don't really affect anyone or anything. Fan-made media, especially if it's easily and publicly accessible as well as prevalent, exists in a vacuum and bears no weight on how we view and interact with our world! Anti-shippers and pro-shippers can all just coexist, guys!!!"🤦🏽‍♀️ On second thought, maybe ~anti anti fandom moms~ like Ellis would be cool with you, since you give them so much leeway. I swear, this isn't the first time I've encountered antis that are this hypocritical and backpedal on their stances, and it won't be the last.

I had also mentioned how Lindsay Ellis's defense of the Twilight Saga greatly downplayed and even omitted core criticisms of the franchise like it's racism, misogyny, and child grooming in favor of only stressing how backlash against Twilight was due to misogyny directed at the writer and fanbase. Unsurprisingly, the anti-shippers dismissed that claim without much thought despite that being an ongoing issue prevalent in many assessments of the Twilight franchise.

Anyway, if you're critical of positive and romanticized depictions of abuse in media (both mainstream and fan-made), maybe don't stan or defend Lindsay Ellis. Especially when she makes "anti anti" comments like that shown below

Okay, I'm going to address this as if gender-chaotic was the anon. Because let's just say I've got dumb bitch disease. I'm willing to believe I am wrong. I was working under the assumption that it was is-beetlebabes-valid-today, but I have never brought it to them and as far I know they haven't faced any backlash from my assumption. In fact except for a comment at the time and a recent response to an anon I never even suggested it was them publicly. No snide remarks, nothing.

There may have been some "I bet that's them" laughing between a couple of us, but if they truly don't read any of the response that their posts generate then how does that effect them?

LET'S JUST SAY it's gender-chaotic.

Gender-chaotic has me blocked. I know this because when I am on the tumblr app I cannot see their blog, their replies to my friend's things, etc.

Gender-chaotic has also followed me twice that I know for certain so that they can stalk my blog and etc, one of these times was well before this nether-receipts stuff so it wasn't for any of their counter receipts. It was just to see what sort of shit I was up to.

Antis say that they're all about boundaries and laugh at us for looking at their group chat.... but at least I have never unblocked someone just so I could see all the BS they're spouting just so I can be mad about it.

Respect your OWN DNIs why don't you?

So, here is your main post.

Okay, let's go back to my initial response to the anon. You claim it was mad, but no, it wasn't. It was dismissive. Because I didn't care about the opinion of the anon then, and I don't care about it now.

"Cry me a river, then build me a bridge and get over it." Is saying exactly that. Get over it.

I even then explained my reasoning and thought process.

If you feel the need to defend them and their childish blog, then fucking do so. But put your own name to it. What was the point of being anon in this situation?

I probably have more to say on this subject about why is-beetlebabes-valid-today an object of derision, all the same reasons still apply whether or not they were sending anons defending themselves, but I don't feel like going into it.

Point is: This doesn't change anything. Is-beetlebabes-valid-today is still a coward who doesn't want to defend their position they just want to name call while ignoring the backlash, and you admitting to being the anon makes you look just as silly as it does us. Haven't you said before that you don't do the anon thing?

As you are taking credit for this, I'll see if I can get nether-receipts to change the name and make that the official position. But this whole thing changes very little.

i was just sent a post from the blog who must not be named it was a post reblogged from someone who ive added to my list of really bad people but one of the things that struck me was a tag i saw in the post

antis seek therapy

we do

we do seek therapy often to combat the trauma some of us have endured through being groomed and being abused we spend time on ourselves to heal we find ways to cope and enjoy life again after it feels like parts of ourselves have been ripped from us and broken and tainted and violated

we work to be comfortable again we work to feel like ourselves again we find things we love again we allow ourselves to enjoy media again

we are taught to stand up for our own levels of comfort and to take control of the space around us we are taught mechanisms to move forward and we are encouraged to help others and support others at least thats what my therapist of multiple decades told me

we all seek shelter in our own ways and many people seek it in media its literally what so many beetlebabes shippers claim to be doing like they’re quote reclaiming some lost childhood thing unquote and yeah i think youre going about it in a terrible way that continues the cycle of pedophila and is normalizing it but thats not even what this is about right now this is about the blatant disrespect and inability to open your eyes to someone elses experience and story

so many antis are so uncomfortable with the content created by beetlebabe shippers myself included since its so similar to the material used to character veil up abuse me character veil down

if youre close to people in the field of psychiatric medicine you should know better than to belittle someones trauma and as a csa survivor yourself you should have the compassion to respect someones boundaries

have you discussed this behavior with this psychiatrist husband of yours not the pedophilic stuff but this blatant disrespect and dismissal of someone elses trauma and the growth theyve achieved thanks to their therapy and counseling have you addressed this narcissistic holier than thou approach you have to discussing such serious issues with people because thats something that should be addressed along with your acceptance and tolerance and even romanticization of pedophilia in media

this is harassment and gaslighting in action folks nether receipts I hope youre taking notes because you clearly dont know what either term means and the fact that youve gone out of your way to promote this abusive behavior is yet another reason why people dislike you i can’t tag you because youve finally taken the hint and blocked me so I see no point but you know who you are also people don’t hate you because youre a woman they hate you because youre a pedophile anyway this isnt about you

trauma is not an experience that is easy to read and apply to every person you yourself sourced years of trying to deal with what you went through who are you to dictate how long someone can feel pain for what theyve gone through who are you exactly to say whether or not if has been too long of a time for someones trauma to effect them you of all people should know that this shit doesnt go away it lingers and it grips you forever it doesnt matter if you’ve been apart from it for ten days or ten years

in one sentence you belittled a person for still being effected by their trauma and then in the next stated that the battle is life long which is it which statement do you actually beleive because it seems to me you only seem to care about your own horrible self without taking this other person into account at all because their response to their trauma was to break the cycle and work to make his space safer for himself and i beleive that takes more courage and more strength to actively oppose what hurt you rather than let it become how you cope and it becomes something you reintroduce into the cycle by keeping the its all okay attitude alive

i do not usually do direct posts its not exactly my style but i am so disgusted by what i have seen and what has been shared with me that it would be a disservice to not alert as many people as i can about your behavior

for a closing statement i will quote you

what the fuck so you think youre doing by coming back over and over to belittle trauma denounce treatment and all around be unpleasant and high and mighty thats fucking harming people you narcissistic fool
