#Tmblrvision Song Contest

Hey everyone!
Eurovision has passed which means it's once again almost time for Tmblrvision, the Tumblr- and Discored-based fan contest!
If you've never heard of Tmblrvision before, basically you pick a country that you'd like to represent, then choose a song from that country and compete against other countries. There's a Eurovision-style vote, and in the end, someone wins!
Tmblrvision is scheduled for sometime in July and August this year, but before that, as always, we do a little survey for prospective Heads of Delegation. (A Head of Delegation is what we'd call whoever is representing a certain country.) Whether you've participated in the past or this would be your first time, if you're interested in joining Tmblrvision this year, I'd like to invite you to take the survey!
The survey is completely anonymous and while there are some questions regarding rules, if you are unaware or otherwise have no strong opinions, you can skip those questions. At the end of the day, I'm more interested to find out roughly how many people are potentially joining Tmblrvision this year.
The survey will be up until the end of the May 2023, so be sure to fill it out ASAP!

Song Review: Czech Republic
Last one of these before Super Saturday, luckily there’s enough popcorn in the stash.
Vesna - My Sister’s Crown
Personal opinion: First of all, I was happy to see Vesna participating in the selection! I got acquainted to their music thanks to tmblrvision, and they’re definitely one of my best artist findings from last year. This song wasn’t a disappointment at all. It’s a strong track with a lot of musical as well as linguistic variety. It’s catchy, but not in a cheap or annoying well, and can withstand multiple listens without getting boring. Plus, the electropop genre is just my jam, and the ethnic features make it even better! My absolute favourite part is the Ukrainian chorus, and I love how it’s repeated a t the end creating a powerful and dramatic effect.
That being said, I do have some criticism, namely concerning the live performance. I know that the ESCZ stage wasn’t the most ideal or big-scale, but multiple other artists were still able to create a more polished performance. This one felt like... a bit of a mess. The three singers seemed to move a bit aimlessly at stage at times, and the colourful and mismatching costumes reminded me of the Danish band last year. I understand there might have been an attempt to visually convey the message of diversity of the lyrics, but it kind of fell flat and didn’t suit the overall atmosphere of the song. Another of my criticisms is that the lyrics seem too in-your-face about the message. Which is a good message, but we know the rules concerning political topics, and that’s what makes me worry.
All of this being said, I enjoy the song a lot, and it’s my second favourite right after Norway.
Prediction: The live performance obviously needs improvement, and if that succeeds, the song can fare really well. It might be a bit risky concerning the jury vote, but luckily for them, there isn’t one in the semis. Then again, a country like Czechia isn’t exactly a magnet for diaspora points, so they can still risk NQ especially with a weaker performance. I do wish them a great result, but there is a flopping fan favourite every year, and I’m kind of afraid it will be the fate of this song. But we’ll see.
Thoughts on selection: ESCZ has provided a nice amount of quality music for the past few years. It’s clear they’re making an effort, and that’s why it’s a pity to see that save from Mikolas Josef, the efforts haven’t really paid off when it comes to the actual results. Lately they’ve been trying to engage more international viewers and also attempting to increase their changes of success by introducing the app voting. And sure, it was nice to get to vote for my own fave, but I must wonder why international eurofans were given more power than the Czech audience. Maybe the contest just isn’t interesting enough for ordinary Czech people? With their less than stellar record in Eurovision, I wouldn’t be surprised.
As for the songs, none other than Vesna’s stood out for me this year. Pam Rabbit had a good show and Rodan’s lyrics were nice and relatable, but that’s about it. Maybe if Vesna achieves success this year, the contest might become more attractive to established artists in the future.

Rasti savo spindesį!
Labas! And welcome to the Lithuanian national final for Tmblrvision 2023. The slogan for this year is Inside Your Glow - and therefore I named this final Rasti savo spindesį, as it should mean (if google translate doesn’t fail me lol) “find your glow” (or brilliance, which I think suits the occasion as well).
Anyway. You want to get to the songs, don’t you? This is our lineup:
kamanių šilelis - MYLI
Gabrielė Vilkickytė - milžinai
Justinas Jarutis - Tavo Tavo
Vaida - Sutema
Džiugas Širvys - Raudonuoju
Monique - Mačiau Ją
Rokas Yan - Aidai
Saulės Kliošas - Tam Pačiam Laike
gintė - gera draugė
Nombeko Auguste – Fantazija
Evgenya Redko - Pakylėtas Gruodis
Gabrielius Vagelis, 69 Danguje - Jei Leisi
Listen to the songs on youtube HERE or on spotify HERE
Vote by sending me your ranking of the songs, either here or on discord (where my name is henny3262) and the top 10 will be rewarded according to the Eurovision scale. Voting closes on July 23rd at 21:00 CEST. In the case of a tie, I’ll host a superfinal.
Sėkmės to all our contestants!

Hey Eurovision fans! Want to join a Eurovision-y fan contest?
Tumblr media
It has been six weeks since the Grand Final of the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest! PED (Post-Eurovision Depression) has been getting to all of us. How can we cope?
Well, since 2016, I've been running the Tmblrvision Song Contest, a fan contest modelled after Eurovision! Basically Tumblr users sign up, pick a country, and send a song to represent that country, then vote for their favorites in true Eurovision fashion, giving Douze Points to their favorite all the way to 1 point to their tenth favorite song. The entry with the most points wins!
There are some rather in-depth rules for the contest but the tl;dr is:
No Eurovision or National Final songs
No Eurovision artists from this year
No artists that were on Tmblrvision last year
No songs that were on previous Tmblrvision contests
Artists must actually have some connection to the country they're representing
Songs must have been released from July 2019 onwards
Sign-ups are this Saturday, 10 July 2021, at 8pm CEST. If you're interested to learn more, check out @tmblrvision, where you can get more information about the contest! We're definitely open to newcomers and we're looking forward to your bops, bangers, and smooth jams. If you'd like an impression of what Tmblrvision is about, here are the last three winning songs, starting from last year's winner:

It’s time for #TSC100 2018!
Tumblr media
But with one major change:
Only songs from @tmblrvision will be considered this year.
There are so many songs that have competed in the many Europal contests that it would be organizationally difficult to sort everything. Besides, there are 160 Tmblrvision songs, so it’s not like y’all are gonna be wanting for options.
So here’s how it works: You get to rank your Top Ten favorite Tmblrvision songs of all time, with points being distributed as per usual. The points will be tallied, and your Top 100/50/20 songs will be announced! (The actual number of songs in the published rankings will be determined by the number of voters and number of songs that received votes.)
Do you need help remembering all 160 songs? Have a listen to the recaps:
youtube
youtube
youtube
Once you’ve determined your Top Ten,
HERE IS THE VOTING LINK!
The songs are organized first by year then by country, so if you’re searching for, say, Germany 2018, you’ll have to scroll down to find it between Georgia 2018 and Greece 2018. After picking your ten, you will be given the option to be sent your votes, so you can confirm that those were actually the songs you wanted to vote for.
Voting will run until Saturday, 15 December 2018, 2359 CET, unless there are not enough votes or there is enough of a clamour to extend the voting.
The rankings will be announced on the weekend of 28-31 December 2018; the exact date will be revealed soon.
IT’S TIME TO VOTE FOR YOUR TOP TEN FAVORITE TMBLRVISION SONGS OF ALL TIME!

Tumblrvision Staging Concepts
I’m not very active on tumblr europal contests (or tumblr at all actually, at least lately), but I do take part in a roleplay in the format of a song contest, in which you come up with staging for the song you’re sending, among others. Someone suggested I do that with Tumblrvision entries, so I guess I’ll do them all in this post. Whatever I come up with will not necessarily reflect my personal opinion of these songs.
01 Germany: Regular band setup. I feel like it’d help better if I knew what the song talked about… typically other people I roleplay with who send these kinds of songs put pictures on the background screen relating to whatever the lyrics are about, I feel like something like that (maybe with graphics/animations instead) would work.
02 Egypt: Traditional dancers. Elaborate costumes, maybe a dress change or two. Camera angles would have to be dynamic and shot up close.
03 Moldova: Okay so she’s wearing a minidress, maybe in silver, and alone on stage at first. When the song starts the camera is on her face a la Bulgaria 2016 but it slowly zooms out eventually turning into a wide shot of the whole stage. The stage lights and graphics are predominantly blue. When the chorus breaks out dancers come on stage, probably male, dressed in white, but the singer stands still. Rain falls from above (on the background screen). When the bridge comes on, the stage lights dim and lighting is focused on the singer, but then everything returns to normal as it ends.
04 Belarus: I really don’t know what to do with this uhh… I’d say a band setup, with the singer mostly standing still but the lights flashing and camera giving dynamic angles that the performance still seems full of action. As the end nears… the graphics become more colourful, I guess.
05 Finland: Singer would be wearing something white, rather avant-garde. Background graphics, if any, would be in white and black (maybe occasional silver and the like), basically a very modern, “Apple” vibe. I’m thinking backing dancers but I’m not sure if it would suit the song… oh there’s a rap. He’d be wearing a white veil too, probably.
06 Albania: This one starts off with her alone on stage, also wearing a massive veiled cloak which covers her entire body and even the stage floor. Dancers come as the song begins to intensify, dress reveal. The choreography here is very… sudden, not necessarily intense, but fits the intense, vigorous atmosphere of the song.
07 Jordan: Dancers, and everyone on stage is wearing colourful summer outfits straight out of H&M. Choreography fits the fun, summer-y vibe of the song. Wide shots, maybe except during the more quieter parts of the song, where it’d be a close of up the singer and the singer alone.
08 Czechia: I can imagine there be furniture on stage, maybe a fancy couch. Band setup surrounding that couch. Just like the music video, people on stage are wearing a mix of leather and fur with streetwear. Singer starts out singing from the couch (either sitting or laying down) but ends the performance standing on the front of the stage.
09 Russia: Dancers on stage, of course. Maybe mixed, maybe all-male. They’re either all looking dapper in suits or wearing streetwear. Colorful but dimmed lights, emulating a nightclub. I guess the choreography would be fast-paced like in the music video.
10 Israel: The stage could look barren, or it could have a folk/country band playing. Either way, the lead singer is there in hipster-looking clothing, as well as the guy playing the tambourine, probably sitting away from the center of attention, and most of the time just appearing in the background. Speaking of background, the LED screen displays a field. Clouds or stars? Either work, or perhaps it alternates. The UFO from the music video would also make a nice touch to that sky. Also possible is 2 ballroom dancers tucked away on a satellite stage if any, or in an empty corner of the stage.
11 Montenegro: Tbh I’m not even sure if this is physically possible but on stage there is a long platform made of flammable material shaped like a bridge. You know what’s going to happen. The singer does start out standing on this bridge, but she struts down the path very stylishly as the first verse progresses, and towards the end lights that match and tosses it just as she steps off the platform. It doesn’t really get any more exciting from here, unless perhaps parts of the ‘bridge’ could be engineered to collapse at certain moments to sync with the song. By the end of the song it’s supposed to have collapsed entirely. Well then, cue a quick interval segment before the next postcard as the crew clear the stage…
12 Andorra: The music video is simple enough that the performance could just be an enactment of it. If not, simply the singer with whatever musical instrument he plays could work. Either way, there’s a band behind him. Maybe put on something a bit traditional/classy or whatever fashion style that works with the song.
13 Lithuania: Okay I didn’t really catch much of the lyrics but from what I heard perhaps a pilot theme could work? Again another band set up (of course a quite different band from the previous), perhaps there could be 2 dancers putting on a visual story but if the band and singer have themed costumes then we could go without dancers.
14 Portugal: If the singer were to just bring his guitar on stage and sing in front of the mic alone on stage that could work. If a similar staging concept could beat the fan favourite at the second chance round of a certain ESC national final, then it can definitely work here.
15 Tunisia: I suppose there would have to be some sort of contrast between the two. One could be dressed in more traditional garb while the other puts on something a bit more modern? Also maybe have some traditional dancers on stage, with slightly different sets of choreography when one or the other sings.
16 Bulgaria: A sunset color scheme with dancers could work. Of course Poli would have to join in with them on the choreography. They’re all wearing something summer-y. Streetwear again, I guess.
17 Iceland: Mostly black is used in this performance, maybe with a splash of another dark colour like purple. Greta would be wearing a dress with really big sleeves, it might look a bit medieval. Hood optional. She takes it off and reveals another skinnier, but still black outfit beneath just in time for what appears to be the bridge, and then takes off the mic from the mic stand and takes a few steps toward the front of the stage. This whole time, however, the backing singers are at the back of the stage, not really moving much.
18 Monaco: The song’s beginning already sets the tone here and it is intimate. The singer could be wearing a colorful spring dress (maybe one with flowers), and pretty much keeps to herself during the whole performance, just standing there in front of the mic. But the real star here is the titular “Woman in the blue skin”, which means there will be one dancer whose skin was painted blue for this performance. The choreography will be something a bit more artistic, then.
19 Armenia: An extravagant intro a la Wild Dances. Full of dancing, perhaps Sirusho does a number along with men dressed as traditional warriors. Potential choreographies: the dancers lifting Sirusho into the air, spinning/other circular movements, wrapping arms around each other’s shoulders and forming a line. Also expect pyrotechnics - this entire performance is just going to scream high energy.
20 Denmark: The performance begins with the singer standing alone on stage, which might be covered in smoke/fog. Everything would be dark, the LED screens off or at least showing only the color black. The singer is wearing a glittery white pantsuit similar to Norway 2013 except with pants of the same design. The song may be slow, but eventually there could be backing dancers with fast-paced choreography. Wide shots are used, creating the feel that they are dancing at the edge of an endless void, or something like that. It just… feels empty.
21 Algeria: 2 potential stagings: the first, the singer stands there in front of the stage in front of a band setup. the second, her being alone on stage though potentially there are holographs or similar graphic effects. Either way, the background shows a magnificent night sky, with a moon.
22 Slovakia: The choreography in the music video could be easily adapted for the live performance. The singer and dancers are wearing the kind of fashion you’d typically see in high-end nightclubs.
Thus ends the first instalment, tune in for the next batch!

Your votes have been counted, and now it's time for the Grand Final of Jordan's national final for @tmblrvision 2021! Out of 16 acts, five of them have really stood out and shown high potential to earn a place on the left side of the scoreboard in the contest based on the ratings you gave them.

Tmblrvision 2023 Announcement #1: Host City and Tentative Schedule
Tumblr media
We're halfway through June, which means it's almost time for this year's Tmblrvision Song Contest! Some exciting announcements are coming your way in the next few weeks, and today, we'll start with two vital pieces of information.
2023 Host City
As you can see from the graphic above, this year's host city has finally been selected! After winning Tmblrvision 2022 last year with "Afterlife" by Holding Absence, Wales will be hosting this year's contest. Its capital city, Cardiff, will play host to the eighth edition of Tmblrvision!
Further details regarding the contest such as the venue, presenters, and visual identity including the insignia and slogan will be announced at a later date. (Note that this shade of green will not necessarily be the color used for the contest!)
Tentative Schedule
With the announcement of the tentative schedule, prospective Heads of Delegation can plan ahead and block off dates as necessary.
Tmblrvision season will kick off with the long-delayed Tmblrvision Retrospective 2022 on 8 July 2023, Saturday, at 8pm CEST. 40 songs across the first seven years of Tmblrvision will be played for you live on the Tmblrvision Discord server.
Tmblrvision 2023 sign-ups will then happen one week later, on 15 July 2023, Saturday, at 9pm CEST, exactly one month from now! This will be the time for prospective Heads of Delegation to claim their desired country.
Song submissions will begin shortly after sign-ups as soon as the first countries are confirmed, and will continue until 24 July 2023, Monday, at 10pm CEST. The next day, 25 July 2023, Tuesday, at 8pm CEST, the traditional live running order allocation draw will be livestreamed.
The Tmblrvision 2023 live song reveal show is tentatively scheduled for 5 August 2023, Saturday, at 8pm CEST. Voting by both the juries and the audience will commence immediately after that show, and the deadline for voting will be 19 August 2023, Saturday, at 10pm CEST, giving everyone two weeks to vote.
The Tmblrvision 2023 live results show will then happen two weeks later on either 1 or 2 September 2023, which is either a Friday or a Saturday, starting at 8pm CEST.
All dates are subject to change depending on the circumstances. Any changes will be communicated as soon as possible.
Here are the dates once again in list form:
8 July (Sa), 8pm CEST: Tmblrvision Retrospective 2022 15 July (Sa), 9pm CEST: Sign-ups 24 July (Mo), 10pm CEST: Sign-ups close, song submission deadline 25 July (Tu), 8pm CEST: Live running order allocation draw 5 August (Sa), 8pm CEST: Live song reveal show 19 August (Sa), 10pm CEST: Voting deadline 1 or 2 September (Fr or Sa), 8pm CEST: Live results show
We hope to see many of you participate in this year's contest! Be on the lookout for more announcements in the coming weeks leading up to the big event!

Song Review: Slovenia
Let’s welcome Batman’s arch enemy.
Joker Out - Carpe Diem
Personal opinion: First of all, this sounds like a tmblrvision song. No kidding, I can imagine someone sending something exactly like this to a fan contest. At first this felt a bit underwhelming, but now that I’m listening without watching the video, I’m able to focus more on the song, which is actually an overall good track. Nothing that screams “winner” or evokes strong emotions, but rather pleasant listening. Maybe this lacks competitiveness, but it’s great for the radio. I appreciate the band for choosing a song that represents their own style instead of trying too hard to create a Eurovision entry.
Prediction: As I said, the song seems to lack competitiveness. It’s a good track on its own, but it lacks a factor that would encourage people to vote for this above the others. They do have more stage presence than the Irish lads, and with the right amount of effort, the overall performance could be final-worthy. Can’t see it ranking higher than the right side.

C’est possible!
Tumblr media
I’m very happy to announce this year’s national final for France in Tmblrvision: C’est possible! Because it’s possible for any of these contestants to represent their country on the big stage in Luxembourg. As simple as that.
Here’s how it will work.
There will be two semis with 12 songs in each. You rank each semi separately, and points according to the eurovision scale will be awarded to your top 10, leaving the last two with zero points. The six best scoring songs of each semi will advance to the final, where the voting process will be just the same. In case of a tie, the song with most people voting for it will advance.
The semis will be open at the same time, voting in them closes on Thursday July 15th at 15.00/3PM CEST, and voting for the final opens shortly after (given that the train wifi works well enough).
Now, let’s meet the contestants!

Hey! Would you be interested in joining a Tumblr contest? It’s just like Eurovision but with more countries competing and you send your own song. If you’d like to just type ‘tmblrvision’ in the search bar and find the blog with that name, there’s a page for rules and a sign up form a few posts down!
very cool idea! i'll share it with my followers, maybe someone is interested! <3
