Eurovision 6th Place finnish rockers Blind Channel are back with Album number 5. Since appearing on Eurovision their career has really blown up, they’ve toured relentlessly and this is their attempt to follow up on Lifestyles of the Sick and Dangerous which was a phenomenal album. Let’s see if the “violent pop” holds up the 5th time around!
“Where’s The Exit” is a quick 2 and a half minute blast that follows on from where Lifestyles of the Sick and Dangerous left off, a deep hip hop flow, little bit of auto tune which isn’t unusual for them, ridiculously catchy and a great reminder of why these guys have blown up. “XOXO” guest features from ashes to new which is a pretty perfect paring, rap metal at its finest, with a very addictive melodic chorus, mostly I love the playful nature of it and a nice big sleazy drop at the end to slap that neck around to. It’s all about the vocals on “Keeping it Surreal” and “Die Another Day” which quest features vocals from RØRY, the first of which ranges from soft and smoothe to sleazy and punchy whilst the second is a powerful balladesque duet, both adding to the diversity of songwriting on offer. “Flatline” sounds similar to The Browning but faaar less aggressive with that ominous trance sound, but with some of that smash mix of melody and harsher rock, another one for the greatest hits.
I tell you what the more I’ve listened the more I’ve fallen in love with it. They’re not “heavy for the sake of it” it’s always appropriate and impactful. They’ve allowed themselves to expand and explore further, the worlds your oyster at this point guys.

A loose translation of the Morecore article Joel has linked in his story:
The album starts with “Opinions”. That it’s not always easy to be in the public; you presumably have to explain to nobody anymore. It’s especially uncomfortable when everyone’s eyes and opinions are encircling you. The song revolves around exactly these opinions. Whether in the morning news or in commentaries below videos that have been viewed millions of times – some can’t help it to constantly stick their noses in the band’s business.
In principle these people know everything better. Silly, because Blind Channel doesn’t want to hear all those opinions from every direction; they do their own thing as they see fit. No matter what anybody thinks.
[…] – Darkside
The next two songs are also known. “Don’t Fix Me” and “Bad Idea” have both been released, each with a music video. Personally, I think they’re a little out of place. Don’t get me wrong, those aren’t bad songs, they’re really good! But that certain something the rest of the album has evoked in me is missing. Personally, I would have put the two on “Violent Pop” instead of the new album.
“Roses are dead, violets are doomed” – continues “Alive Or Only Burning” with poetic verses. The music business is an industry you sooner or later learn to function in. Independent of one’s own inner life. What it really looks like in there only very few know. Instrumentally loud and aggressive, “Alive Or Only Burning” demonstrates really well the rage and frustration that has accumulated and combines it with the raw vulnerability of the lyrics and vocals. […] Could evolve into a fan favourite.
[…] – Balboa
With “National Heroes” we get to hear an interesting interlude. “You are National Heroes – you’re everybody’s property”. Blind Channel are the Finnish child prodigies, who currently carry the pride and musical expectations of probably the whole country on their shoulders. They are called heroes and idols even beyond the national borders. They don’t see themselves that way. “We are no saints” is said in the absolutely well-done transition back to the song journey of the album. That song also is already known because of a previous single release, but if you hear the emotionless robotic voice beforehand in “National Heroes” then “We Are No Saints” conveys a completely new effect. Hard to describe, you have to hear it for yourself.
While some albums lose their quality in the second half, “Lifestyles of the Sick & Dangerous” seems to really get going. In “Autopsy” the Rap/Hip Hop influences really shine through. The song picks up again on the aforementioned vulnerability and convinces particularly with its brilliant lyrics. My personal favourite of the album which is getting a little bit better with every time you listen to it. I’m not sure why exactly, but the topic of the song makes me think of “Avalanche” by BMTH instantly.
“Glory For The Greedy” wakes you up with a bang. In its verses, which is basically built like a dialogue between Niko and a (presumably) label representative, the track tells the story of Blind Channel to the top from a perspective from behind the scenes. If in the beginning nobody believed in them, allegedly everyone now has been their biggest fan from the beginning on. Now as the group shows success, they [the “fans”] have supposedly always been their supporters – that’s why they deserve a piece of cake as well, right? Not exactly. “There is no glory for the greedy.”
Always has been supporting the band? Not likely, rather one wanted to change them. “You were saying ditch the rapper – ditch the rapper?“ Anyone else getting a Linkin Park Deja-Vu? […] Blind Channel are often compared to Nu Metal. It’s for everybody to decide on their own what they think about it but in my opinion you, especially on the new album, will be searching for it in vain.
“Took eight years to become an overnight success” it says on “Thank You For The Pain”. Eight years filled with blood, sweat, tears and setbacks, which in the end made them even stronger. For that time and that pain they say “thank you” in their last song of the album. To the end of the almost six minute long track you can hear how the band talks with each other in Finnish and the song, or rather the album, ends with a monologue of Joel Hokka in his mother tongue. Freely translated he says to the others: “Volent Pop has started as some kind of joke, but then it evolved into a trademark and a unique way to describe our sound. For so many years we have fought for this, and it feels surreal that we made it. It’s exactly what we wanted to do. (…) Even when it’s all fun we take it seriously. The best proof is the people that hate us.”

Note
so I keep seeing blind channel stuff on your blog. Explain them (style of music and/or song recs) to me????
ayyyyy gladly 8)
they're basically a pop/rock/rap mix. very often called nu metal, but they also coined a term "violent pop" to describe themselves. 2 vocalists, bassist, guitarist, drummer and a DJ/percussionist. often compared to Linkin Park thanks to the genre, the 2 vocalists niche and because BC are very loud Linkin Park fans (their song Scream is about Chester Bennington).
they just released a new album, Lifestyles Of The Sick And Dangerous, little over a week ago which is probably their overall heaviest one, so it could be a good place to start. for someone going in blind and persumably preferring heavier music I'd recommend Alive Or Only Burning and We Are No Saints to start, tho my personal faves are Bad Idea and Autopsy.
from the earlier discography I'd recommend Snake and Over My Dead Body from Violent Pop, Sharks Love Blood from Blood Brothers (that one has a nice music video too, they got cow blood and went off lmao), and Unforgiving and Bullet (With Your Name On It) from Revolutions.

For Immediate Release: Violent Bounce To Appear In “Lifestyles Of The Sick & Dangerous” Reality Television Engagement In 2023.
Helsinki --
Finnish Nu Metal band Violent Bounce blasted to success in 2021 when they represented Finland in Eurovision Song Contest, placing 6th in the overall contest. Since then, the band has been on an upswing of success. From releasing successful singles “Balboa”, “We Are No Saints”, “Bad Idea”, “Don’t Fix Me”, all of which appear on their upcoming 4th album and major label debut Lifestyles Of The Sick & Dangerous, out 8th July 2022 on Century Media Records, to becoming staples on national television across Finland and Europe. The band performed at The Turning Of The Year event on New Year’s Eve 2021 and since. have appeared on a number of telecasts and charity telecasts in Finland and Europe, just furthering the message of violent pop.  They get to add “reality television stars” to their illustrious resumes.  It was announced today (6th July 2022) that Violent Bounce would be prominently featured on a show, debuting in January of 2023, called “Lifestyles Of The Sick & Dangerous” where it gives fans an inside look to the “dark side” that Violent Bounce lives. Fans became familiar with documentary styled tour videos that the band would release independently while touring but the reality show goes deeper into their personal lives and allows fans into their every day life, their relationships, and ultimately their homes, to discover the real people behind the violent pop evolution.  The show will follow real-life Finnish rock royalty couple, Jani and Jussi Valkyrie, the frontmen of Violent Bounce, as well as their partners, shining light on how their polyamorous family dynamic works. The show will also follow the lives of Kivi Kaikkonen, Ville Lahtinen, Baz Saari, and Mika Laine with their partners - Damon Kaikkonen (American fashion designer/musician/social media influencer), Gabriella Lahtinen (American professional wrestler), Jenni Saari (American online content creator/video game guru), and Willow Laine (American guitarist/band support). in their lives.  The show is slotted for its first season, starting in January 2023 and will air on Ruutu TV in Finland and will be 23 episodes, approximately an hour runtime, airing each Sunday to kick off 1st January 2023.  “It’s an interesting way for fans to get to know us, that’s for sure,” Vocalist Jani Valkyrie said. “When approached with the idea, everyone thought that I would say no but it honestly seemed really fun. Filming this process has been really fun and it’s something we can look back on in ten, fifteen years and realise, alright we did that... that’s cool. It’s like our own little time-capsule, because we’re responsible for what everyone sees. It’s us, as authentic as it comes, and that’s something I think fans will enjoy. We anticipate that the fans will feel closer to us because of this and that’s what we want. Violent Bounce is a family and we want our fans to feel like they’re part of our family, too.” The first episode slotted for the season premiere will feature the wedding of Ville and Gabriella Lahtinen. The season will feature the Kaikkonen’s wedding, J2′s wedding, and summer 2022 mayhem... and that’s just the beginning. The fans should be ready for anything because with Violent Bounce, nothing is predictable.  - RR

Check our @BlindChannelFIN "Lifestyles Of The Sick & Dangerous " #Review
Last month saw the fourth studio album Lifestyles Of The Sick & Dangerous from Blind Channel. And it’s still making its way onto my playlists. These guys are perhaps best known (for now) as having represented Finland at 2021’s Eurovision. The Finnish band, whose genre is quite accurately described as “violent pop”, have a great energy, and Lifestyles Of The Sick & Dangerous is a reminder of how…

Blind Channel - From ESC out into the wide world
Translation under the cut
Tumblr media
With their grand "Eurovision Song Contest" hit and chart topper "Dark Side", Blind Channel rose to international stars overnight. Now the young Finns are dropping the corresponding album "Lifestyles of the sick & dangerous".
A dream comes true
Following their colossal performance at ESC 2021 in Rotterdam as the official representative of Finland, they got offers from huge record companies from all over the world. "That was very exciting," Niko Moilanen, the rapper among the two frontmen, recalls. "But we had already entered into negotiations with Century Media long before and we wanted to sign with them by all means." "Since I began being interested in metal as a teenager, they had signed some of the greatest bands in the world," adds Joel Hokka, his bandmate who is responsible for the more classic vocals as well as the second guitar. "I'm only naming my favorites, Dark Tranquility and In Flames, now. It has always been one of my big dreams to be able to release our music with the same label as those acts.
100 percent authenticity
"The label also had no problem with us wanting to produce our first worldwide release ourselves," Niko explains further. "That was very important to us after the three indie albums we worked on with an external producer." Only this way, the sextet believed to be able to authentically realize the musical vision of a mixture of death metal and Linkin Park as well as tap grooves and pop music elements, which they themselves describe as "violent pop" - which obviously succeeded. The long-player with a super cool cover artwork sounds bombastic, but in the right moments also very intimate. "What you're listening to here is 100% us," Joel clarifies.
Starting all over again
In April, the boys are going on tour through Europe as special guests for Eskimo Callboy, including a considerable number of shows in middle-sized to larger halls in Germany. Shortly before that, they're crossing over to North America for the first time. The gigs there take place in tiny clubs. For a band that now manages to sell out the local ice hockey stadium in Helsinki, that could maybe be a little difficult, one might think. But it's not, Joel assures, "On the opposite. We're really looking forward to having the chance to begin similarly in the USA as we did in Europe back then. If that means playing in front of 100 or even only 20 people again, that's no problem at all. We know that we can fascinate this handful of people so much that the next time we're in that city, each of them will bring a couple of friends and then we can play at a noticeably bigger venue. That's exactly how it was in Finland, Germany and the other places we have visited so far." Speaking of Germany: An own headliner tour is planned for August and September.

When the Bough Breaks | Solo
River sat crossed legged on her bed, two items sitting out in front of her on her crisp blankets. One was the note from Rye, which sat unfurled, silently instructing her to call her mom. It had been something she’d been contemplating doing for weeks now, some of her anger fading and being replaced by a need for the sort of comfort only her mother could give her. But nothing had really pushed her over the edge, not even her conversation with Iann about needing answers, until she’d gotten this note out of the blue.
The other item was her laptop, skype open full screen on it, her mouse pointer hovering over her mom’s contact. She hadn’t found the nerve to click yet, her stomach in knots inside of her, curling in on itself in a way that made her want to just crawl inside of herself and die rather than deal with what was making her feel this way. But a few deep breaths served to dull the discomfort, if only slightly.
She’d meticulously cleaned her room, even the parts her mom wouldn’t see in the video call. Partially because she felt like her mom would just know something was amiss if the whole room wasn’t clean, and also she’d been using it as an excuse to put off calling for the past 2 hours, cleaning a bit, then noticing something out of place once she sat down, having to clean for another 20 minutes before sitting down again and continuing the cycle over and over. But everything was clean and organized now. She had no more excuses.
With another deep breath, she jabbed her finger into her trackpad and the familiar skype ringback tone played. With each ring that passed without her mom picking up, she slowly lost her nerve, until suddenly the ringing stopped, and she was face to face with her mom.
Both of them sat there for a moment, completely speechless at seeing one another on their screens. But River broke the silence first, a rare occurrence for her, especially around her outgoing mother.
“Hey ma. How are you?”
“I’m doing...okay. What about you, sweetie?”
River could tell her mom was picking her words carefully, as if tiptoeing around a sleeping bear that could wake up and maul her at any moment. After their last conversation, River couldn’t exactly blame her. She probably saw this as a second chance she was determined not to screw up.
“I’m good. I got a job at a gym and I’m rooming with a really cool dude. Look at this room!” She picked up the laptop and gave her mom a quick look around the space, glad she’d cleaned beforehand.
“That’s great, sweetheart! I’m glad you’re settling in.” The tone was clearly forced. Their last conversation she’d pled with her daughter to come home. She was anything but glad.
River plopped the laptop back in front of her on the bed. “Are you really?”
“...Of course.”
“Don’t lie to me, Ma.”
A beat. Her mom pushed a breath through her nose, hanging her head a little before looking back up at River on the screen. Their eyes didn’t meet, but it felt as if they were boring right into her. “I’m scared for you, River. I’ve wanted to call you for weeks, but I was....respecting your wishes.”
River remembered the ultimatum and felt sick to her stomach with how cruel she’d been.
“Ma, I need to ask you some stuff, and I need you to be honest with me, okay?” She stared right into the webcam so her mom could feel the intensity through the screen. “I’m not giving up on this, we both know that, so keeping things from me is only going to make it harder for me to stay safe." She glanced down at the screen, where she saw her mom nod silently.
“What do you know about Leeman Calloway?”
Her mom had clearly seen the question coming, and the hesitation was apparent as it rippled across her face. But as a ripple does, it dissipated quickly, and River settled in to listen as her mom started talking.
“As you know, I met your parents young. They helped me out of a tough situation...” Head down, staring at her hands on the desk. She could hear her mom picking at her nails. River had picked up a lot of her bad habits from her.
“Your uncle was a scumbag. I remember.”
“Well, the way they helped me was teaching me their ways, and I got good at what we did. We stole from the rich and...”
“If you say ‘gave to the poor’ I’m gonna barf.”
A small chuckle erupted from her mom’s throat. “No, we weren’t so noble. We squandered what we took, looking for thrills everywhere we went. But when Tony was born in 1980, things changed. Eventually we ended up in Soapberry. And that’s where we met Leeman. He was a rich kid that wanted a taste for danger, and we gave him that, letting him in on heists and teaching him how to fight in the underground. In exchange, he helped us out of legal trouble whenever we slipped up, because your parents wanted to raise you kids in Soapberry around your own kind, so we couldn’t just flee like usual.” The words were still strained, as if being squeezed out of a stubborn tube of toothpaste. Clinging to the nozzle in an a desperate attempt to stay hidden.
“Why not stop stealing then?” River’s voice had a little more ire than she’d meant. She could tell this was hard for her mom, but she didn’t correct herself.
“We had nothing when we arrived. Spent it all down to the last cent like a bunch of hooligans. We were desperate.” Her mom leaned back in her chair, a defeat written in neon lights on her face. “It was no excuse, I understand that. We should have earned it honestly. We could have probably avoided all of this. But your parents were popping kids out so fast and they wanted you to want for nothing. It was easier to stick to what we knew.” The regret in her voice was heavy, weighing down her words as if they were sinking to the ocean floor to drown. “They did stop though, eventually. After the twins were born, they finally ‘retired’. I guess you could call it that.”
A long pause, as if her mom was reluctant to continue.
“...but?”
“But a few years later, with the lifestyle they insisted on keeping, they ran out of money again. They were too proud to ask, but not too proud to take.”
Another pause. Whatever she was hiding, it was a painful memory that her mom had to drudge up from the deep.
“What did they take? From who?” River had a feeling she knew at least one of the answers.
“We’d been to Calloway’s house so many times. It was an easy target. They’d cased it and knew it like the back of their hands. Knew his schedule down to the minute. They thought they could get away with it.” River could see her mom grinding her teeth between her words. “I wish I’d known what they were planning. Maybe I could have stopped them.”
“What did they take?” River insisted again.
“A pocket watch worth a lot of money. They figured he was so rich he wouldn’t miss it. But he’d shown it to me before. It was priceless to Leeman. A family heirloom imbued with powerful magic. Apparently it held memories of his ancestors, but when your parents touched it, the spell...fucked up somehow. Everything was erased.”
“Wait....wait, wait, wait, a pocket watch? It was like gold and clear so you could see the inner workings and shit?” River’s illustrated a turning gear with her hands enthusiastically, her eyes wide with realization. Her mom nodded. “I found that watch in his house! In a glass case in the basement!” She rubbed the back of her head, remembering the feeling of her skull colliding with the concrete floor when she’d touched it, along with all the pain it had caused before it was destroyed.
“Don’t tell me you touched it.” Her mom’s chiding was almost comforting. Some semblance of normality in this bizarre conversation.
“....Maybe.”
“River Iris....” Her mom shook her head. “What happened? Are you okay?”
“Well, sorta. It made me....really angry. Violent even. I punched a friend so much her face looked like raw hamburger, sooooooo....” She hung her head a little. “But it also gave me a connection to him. I saw some of his memories, and I saw where he is now...kinda. It’s weird and hard to explain.” She held up a hand. “But it’s gone now. All the magic seemed to just like, drain out of it.”
“Wait, where he is now? You told me he was dead!” The same fear River had only heard over the phone last time they’d spoke was now staring at her through the computer screen, and seeing that sort of fear on her mom’s face was honestly one of the most unsettling things she’d ever seen.
“Oops?” River shrugged, feigning innocence. “He faked his own death, apparently. And he looks like shit now, if that helps. Did not age gracefully.” But her jokes did nothing to calm her mom, so she put a hand on her chest, letting her face drop to a more serious expression. “Ma, listen, I know he scares you, but if I’m going to stop this, I have to find him. There’s no other way.”
Her mom looked as if she had something to say, but she let the words die on her lips, pursing them together and nodding.
River was desperate to move on though, her need for answers gnawing at her. “What I don’t get though is...if they stole the watch, how was it in the house again?”
When before her mom was heistant to speak, the words flowed freely out of her now, as if the need to supply River with as much knowledge as possible was suddenly her top priority. “He must have been setting you some emotional trap. Sneaky bastard. For a while everything was fine after they stole the watch. They sold the it off and were set for life, even with their crazy lifestyle. A year later you were born. Leeman was acting like everything was fine, though he was more distant. Don’t know if your parents realized, but I did.” At this she did pause, the hindsight in her eyes haunting to look at. “Then one day, your mother’s pelt was stolen, cut from her while she was sleeping. We all knew it was Leeman. Less than a week later, Victor was killed. Your parents tracked down the watch and tried to give it back to him, sneaking in and putting it back in the house. But it was too late...”
“...we were already cursed.” River could feel anger rising up in her, but she wasn’t even sure who to aim it toward anymore. It was just there, boiling under the surface. Her rage was too hot and confusing that it pushed any follow up questions she’d meant to ask out of her mind.
Her mom nodded. “That’s when they scattered you kids, and I got you.” A sad smile spread across the woman’s lips, and seeing that calmed River slightly. “Speaking of which, I’ve been thinking...you don’t have to call me mom anymore if it makes you uncomfortable. You can call me Jessica if you want.”
River’s brow furrowed, and she shook her head defiantly. “What?” Even if she was upset, felt betrayed, felt lost in this convoluted web of mistrust spun before she’d even been born, that thought had never crossed her mind.
“No way. You raised me. You’re my mom.”

these aren't necessarily my faves but some of the heavier ones, since BC is still really poppy compared to like Slipknot and shit lmao

America vs. American Women
There is currently a war being waged on the women in this country. It's being waged in a number of ways by a multitude of people, for reasons that are various and, at times, nearly inexplicable. Those reasons are a rant-session unto their own. What is clear, to anyone who is even remotely "woke" to female issues at this point, is that the war is vicious, sometimes literally violent, and we are losing. For those who are not aware of what life is like when you are being-an-American-female-in-2017, allow me to enlighten you.
Biologically born women are the only people capable of having babies. Shocking, I know. This is not, however, a situation that women come into on their own. As much as many women would love to be able to do away with men completely (a desire well-earned by the male species in this country), semen is still a necessity for insemination. This means men are still, at least cursorily, necessary to create babies. One would think that this would make it so that men would have some level of sympathy for women who are bringing new screaming urchins into society, yet the overwhelmingly male legislatures that run this country keep proving that this isn't the case.
There is no legal standard for paid maternity leave in this country. While the Family Medical Leave Act requires that mothers be given time off, that time off isn't required to be paid. For those who work full-time, or have employers that grant part-time employees sick leave or vacation time, this frequently means coming back to work with few to no sick days left and no vacation time to speak of, as all of it will have been used to guarantee a paycheck following a baby's birth. For those who work part-time for employers who do not grant any sort of paid time off to part-time employers, the amount of time that can be taken isn't determined by medical necessity, but by financial capability. This means mothers may be returning to work not just before the baby is ready for daycare, but before the woman herself is even physically fit for it.
For those who are screaming in their heads "but paternity leave," the "physically fit for it" aspect of pregnancy and birth is why the paternity leave temper tantrum can suck my big toe. I feel for dads who want to spend time with their new tot, and I want them to be able to do that. More so, though, I want to know that my new-mom friends aren't coming to work when their bodies are literally, medically, unready to do so. Until we've accomplished a working world that lets women heal properly, without forfeiting their paychecks, dads who can't take time off work to see their babies are just going to have to wait a little while longer. Because, frankly, few things are harder on the body than a pregnancy. The hormones are insane. The weight gain, if large, is rough on your joints. The weight loss, if you're that sick, can make recovery that much harder. Assuming you have a vaginal birth, you are looking at days to weeks of discomfort while your body attempts to knit itself back together. If they cut the baby out of you, you're literally recovering from a surgery that involved cutting through some of the strongest muscles in the human body, and pulling another human out.
But sure. Be back at work in six weeks, ready to keep on, keeping on, as though the movie "Alien" didn't just happen in that hospital room.
Now, to add insult to injury, they have turned these pregnancies that are completely necessary for the continuation of our species, into a "pre-existing" condition. If you have ever had a baby, and particularly if that baby was delivered by c-section, insurance companies could soon be handed the option to deny you coverage. Even if you can get coverage, don't even dream of getting pregnant while using that medical coverage. With "pregnancy" no longer considered an essential service that insurance companies should cover, there's a chance women in some states will be completely unable to find insurance coverage for this insanely expensive but, again, necessary-for-the-continuation-of-the-species, medical "condition."
Given that male politicians clearly don't care much for pregnant women, you would think they would have a vested interest in keeping women from getting pregnant. But, no. Not so much.
States all across the union have seen bills designed to completely eradicate abortion come across their legislative steps. The same legislators who don't want to spend any money taking care of mothers or their babies, also want to ensure that women become mothers whether they are ready for it or not. We have seen 20-week abortion bans, 13-week abortion bans, bans on abortions done because of birth defects, and attempted bans on all abortions, even those needed because a woman was raped or because the pregnancy is a product of incest. When legislators fail to restrict abortion itself, they instead go after the doctors, the buildings, or the funding, all in an attempt to prove how very much they "love" women and how "concerned" they are about their well-being.
Before my pro-life "friends" (not really, because if you believe women are incubators, we're definitely not friends) start pitching temper-tantrums about irresponsible sluts who can't keep their legs closed, I would suggest a trip to a local library and some actual research. Pull your fucking head out of your Fox News hole and go find some real statistics to work with, because the average abortion in this country is had by a middle-class, married, white woman, because the family knows they will not be able to maintain their current lifestyle if they have another baby. The average abortion provides the woman who had it, and their family, with relief and with the ability to continue living their life in a way that they are financially equipped to do. In short, pro-life person who is angry, get the fuck over yourself and, until you're ready to be completely celibate despite being married, stop demanding it of other people. Fucking assholes.
"Put it up for adoption!" the asshole says. Have you looked at our social welfare system? It's a fucking nightmare. Do you really think it can withstand the addition of any more children? Besides, putting a baby up for adoption still requires carrying it to term and delivering it. Return to the start of this article, the portion regarding the effect these things have on a woman's body, and tell me again how "easy" it is to just pop that fucker out and hand it someone else. NO.
Well, in a land where babies aren't supposed to be born but women aren't supposed to have abortions, obviously birth control must be easy to get, right? And again, wrong.
Up until the Affordable Care Act, insurance companies weren't required to cover any form of birth control, which meant a woman may well be paying for it completely out of pocket. This left birth control out of reach for many, and left many others turning to places like Planned Parenthood for assistance. It will come as no surprise to people with legitimate brain cells to rub together that, following the passage of the ACA and the sudden availability of birth control to most women in America, abortion rates reached an all-time low in this nation. The fact that, despite this fact, seemingly "pro-life" people want to make birth control harder to acquire and more expensive would seem to show pretty conclusively that they aren't really all that pro-life at all and, more than likely, don't have any legitimate brain cells to rub together.
That, right there, is what truly lies at the crux of this matter. None of this is actually about babies, protecting the sanctity of life, or taking care of women. All of it, absolutely all of it, is about control. Control over something that, if recent activity is any indication, seems to threaten men in this country far more than heart disease, gun violence, or suicide (all things that kill men at higher rates than they kill women). That very dangerous something over which men are desperately grasping for control would appear to be women.
One doesn't have to travel back in time very far to get to a decade in which the white man was basically the king of the castle, no matter how big or small that castle was. Women stayed home, for the most part, tending to the children, making sure dinner was on the stove, and ensuring their waist size never expanded beyond the size of my quadricep muscles. If you're currently picturing something reminiscent of Pleasantville crossed with the Stepford Wives, good. That's about the concept many of these terrified little boys who are after strict control over women's bodies seem to desire.
While some of this forced housewifery started to loosen when women were given the "right" to work outside of the house (a huge push in this direction came during World War II, when women moved into many of the jobs vacated by men who were on the front lines), thus given the right to earn money and, if they desired, theoretically support themselves, the big push in the realm of women's equality came in the form of the birth control pill. Which brings us to our current war, today. "The pill," as it has come to be known, was the first great equalizer, all the more so when it was finally made widely available with nothing more than a doctor's prescription. Getting married no longer guaranteed the end to a woman's career, as it no longer guaranteed a woman would become pregnant immediately. Women entered the workforce in numbers never seen before and, much to the dismay of some of the men they displaced, they've never left. Not completely.
While some women leave every year to change careers or to become stay-at-home-moms, the overwhelming majority of women today will return to work, even if only part-time, as soon as possible following a baby's birth. For many this is a product of necessity. The household cannot survive on only one income, thus the woman has to go back to work. For many others, however, it is a product of desire. Women now have grown up watching their mothers pursue any number of dreams and desires outside the home. For many, the idea of giving up everything they have worked towards or worked for to pursue motherhood full-time simply isn't an appealing option. Thanks to grandparents, friends, babysitters, and daycare, women who wish to return to work rather frequently can, going back on the pill when necessary to ensure that their career is not further interrupted until they are ready for said interruption.
The pill had effects outside of the workforce, as well. Women were now free to experiment, sexually, in many of the same ways that men had been doing basically since male humans figured out what their dicks were for. As nothing besides abstinence is 100% effective there were, of course, single mothers to be found or unhappily had shotgun weddings that led to unhappily maintained marriages. While a single mother may have remained a blight on the reputation of her family, the consistent push that women were making into the workforce meant she no longer remained tied to the man who got her pregnant if she didn't want to be. Not only was he faced with the prospect of having to support a baby he probably didn't really want, he's having to do it without the benefit of getting a wife who will cook, clean, and keep his house for him while he's off at work.
Lest it seem like I'm treating birth control like something that benefits only women, it's worth noting that most straight men I know consider the birth control pill a damn godsend. 99 out of 100 times they could have sex with their partner using absolutely no other form of protection and they'll walk away without having induced nine months of weight gain and discomfort for their partner, followed by 18 years of "dad, can I have money to go to the movies?" Those are pretty good odds. The ability to control when you have a family is hardly an ability that benefits only women.   Yet, within the workforce, it is an ability that improved women's odds significantly more than men's. As such, it is an ability that is seen by some men not as an "equalizer" but as an "over reach" of sorts. As the saying goes, for those who have always had greater power in a society, the presence of equality can feel oddly like oppression. Birth control isn't oppressing men, though you wouldn't know it to hear some of them talk about how thoroughly it should be regulated.
So, to recap. They want to illegalize abortion and make birth control significantly harder to get, thus ensuring that women who have sex are more likely to get pregnant and have to keep the baby. They want to drastically reduce the welfare outlets available to poor families, reduce the funding pumped into foster facilities in this country, and refuse to do anything meaningful to help middle-class women keep their jobs (and at least part of their paycheck) when they take the inevitably necessary leave to birth their baby. They clearly don't care about the child after it's born, as they want to provide no aid for it or its family. Which means their prerogative isn't babies, their prerogative is fetuses. And they clearly have no interest in ensuring women are treated properly, as they want to regulate their bodies, their choices, and their access to medication that could help them better control their lives.
This is completely about punishing women, married or not, for the act of having sex. If they can punish them for having sex, then they can control them. Again.
But sure, let's keep talking about how the "war on women" is a liberal figment of the imagination designed to scare people.
Good god I'm glad I'm queer.

Regularly, it takes an hour or extra. Fiddly, time-ingesting admin – it’s like having to trade the water in a fish tank. I will be parsed: it’s why I don’t have an aquarium. I’d rather let the fish die.
But if I keep out, progressively not anything will work on my existing phone. They’ll freeze me out by way of ranges. Reduce me out of the club. Plus I’ll pass over out on brilliant functions along with slightly exclusive icons and a terrifying new form of predictive textual content that precisely mimics the feeling of talking to an idiot who continues completing your sentences for you. (Both my thumbs have grown clumsier, or predictive text in preferred has become plenty greater competitive these days. I’m able to kind whatever without it always popping up to blurt random phrases on my behalf – it’s like being inside the Beastie Boys.)
A part of the trouble is that smartphones are so horribly addictive, as moreish as smoking. The distinction among smartphones and cigarettes is that this: a cigarette robs 10 mins out of your lifespan, But as a minimum has the decency to attend and withdraw all that point in bulk as you near the give up of your life – while a telephone steals sometime within the present second, by way of stages. 5 minutes right here. 5 minutes there. Then you look up and also you’re eighty-five years antique.
Google android has unveiled the subsequent version of its Android software program for smartphones and tablets: Android 5.0 for Android phones and android tablet

That little square screen is so hypnotic, so omnipresent; I feel lost and unwell the moment mine’s tied up doing something as uninterruptable as an update. While it sits there, blank, progress bar inching alongside at a snail’s pace, I glance at it nervously, like an owner watching his canine go through an operation – no longer out of something approaching sympathy, However the egocentric situation that if it dies, I may not be able to check my e-mail for 5 mins. I think if I had an Apple Watch I might want to at the least mess around mindlessly with that As a substitute at the same time as expecting the telephone to spring again into life. Come to consider it, that’s in all likelihood the Watch’s sole cause. They ought to market it that manner. Large winner.
Apple additionally unveiled the all-new larger iPhone 6, and the all-new even bigger-than-that iPhone 6 Plus, which is the scale of the Isle of Guy and geared toward individuals who have deep pockets. Using releasing differently sized rectangles, which in turn vary from its other variety of differently sized boxes, Apple has selfishly exhausted the global supply of in another way sized squares. Any longer, all boxes, irrespective of what context they appear in, will need to be the identical size. Wars could be fought to determine which size becomes the same old. And when humanity eventually settles on a compromise, Apple is going to start on ovals.
As A part of the iPhone 6 exposure blitz, Tim Prepare dinner also Announced every iTunes user in the global might be getting U2’s new album freed from the rate. It becomes downloaded automatically directly to thousands and thousands of users’ phones, like a dangerous virus. Music is meant to be catchy – However now not till you’ve heard it. The album, which I haven’t listened to but, is horrible: even worse than their last one, which I didn’t pay attention to Either. I don’t need to hear to any U2 albums in case I discover I like them and need to think again my very own self-image violently. For the past five years, it’s been delightfully easy to disregard U2. Then Apple comes alongside and slings them under your nostril like a bowl of bum soup you didn’t order. What can we do? Start lobbying Google for U2’s right to be forgotten?
Nevertheless: new watches, new rectangles, new track – those needn’t virtually have an effect on you in case you don’t need them to. “We aren’t constructing a vertically incorporated product. What we are doing is building an open platform at scale. We paintings with hundreds of companions globally to convey a product and a platform that touches billions of people. And we need to do it in a way in which we’re innovating at an entirely very quick tempo,” stated Pichai.
