Texas Rangers-Minnesota Twins Series Preview

The Rangers At A Glance- The Texas Rangers have surprised some folks with a solid first half of 2019. They are (47-40) and are a game and a half out of the second American League Wild-Card spot. The Rangers had a six-game winning streak at the end of June before losing four of their last five. They won yesterday against the Angels. The story of the Rangers season has been reclamation projects that have worked out great. Danny Santana is hitting .295 with nine homers and twenty-six RBI’s. He had a great rookie year in 2014 with the Twins then never duplicated it. Logan Forsythe is hitting .257 with three homers and thirty-one RBI’s. Hunter Pence was selected to the All-Star Game because he hit .294 with fifteen homers and 48 RBI’s. Pence was on a rehab assignment and aggravated a groin injury. He will sit out the All-Star Game. Joey Gallo has been better this year with a .276 average and twenty homers. Nomar Mazara is always solid with twelve homers and forty-nine knocked in. Former Twin Lance Lynn has eleven wins with a 3.91 ERA. Jesse Chavez found his way into the rotation with a 2.97 ERA. Mike Minor has been the ace of the staff with an (8-4) record and a 2.54 ERA. Shawn Kelley is the closer with 11 saves and a 2.79 ERA. Chris Martin, Jose Leclerc, and Ariel Jurado help set him up.

The Twins At A Glance- The Twins return home after their first losing road trip of the season. They went (2-4) in Chicago and Oakland and now the American League Central lead is down to six games. The Texas Rangers come to town for a three-game set before the All-Star break. Miguel Sano had a good road trip where he hit 8-for-20 with four homers and nine RBI’s. Nelson Cruz hit 8-for-18 on the trip with three homers and seven RBI’s. Ehire Adrianza keeps finding a spot in the lineup. He hit 5-for-13 on the trip. Marwin Gonzalez was out on Thursday due to a sore toe. He fouled a ball off his foot on Wednesday and it’s still giving him issues. Luis Arraez continues to hit with a .414 average on the season. Taylor Rogers has allowed two runs since the beginning of June. He has eleven saves on the year. Adalberto Mejia looked good on Tuesday when he threw 3 1/3 innings and allowed one run.

What To Watch For- The Rangers went (4-2) against the Twins last year. They took two out of three games at Target Field and at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. Martin Perez pitched seven years in a Rangers uniform. He went (43-49) with a 4.63 ERA in 141 games. Jesse Chavez is (2-0) with a 2.35 ERA in eleven games against the Twins. Nelson Cruz has four career homers off Chavez. Michael Pineda is (0-4) with a 5.66 ERA in six starts against the Rangers. Shin-Soo Choo has two homers off him. Mike Minor is (4-1) with a 2.18 ERA in twelve games against the Twins. Blake Parker has a 2.03 ERA in 13 1/3 innings against the Rangers. This is Danny Santana’s first time at Target Field since May 4, 2017. He had two hits that day and the Twins designated him for assignment. He was claimed by the Braves and played the rest of 2017 and 2018 there. It looks like he has found a home with the Rangers and is showing off what he can do in an everyday role. I’m excited to see the Rangers play this year. I’ve only seen them once or twice and they have so many storylines. They are also a team flying completely under the radar in the American League West.
