thinking about the things kukugumi pairs give each other during their movie revues and how they use those as fuel to move forward... kaoruko can let futaba go and promise to wait for her while holding onto her keychain, mahiru gives hikari's brilliance back to her so that she is able to meet karen on their final stage, junna takes nana's sword to forge her own path, maya and claudine quite literally offer themselves to each other via their contract, and finally it all comes full circle when hikari tosses a tomato to karen in the final scene of the movie - the main representation of the fuel that both the audience and the stage girl needs in order to be remade again and again. happy 27 months in theaters for revue starlight the movie

Karen still has her revue cape (not sure about the hair clip since this is definitely post-movie) because she hasn't moved on yet. She only loses her cape after she auditions in the post-credits section of the movie. The visual novel takes place after the movie, but before that scene.
