random thoughts about tell me that you love me, episode one
(the rest is under the cut because i'm worried about your eyes having to read ALL OF THAT and this post might contain spoilers)
First of all, I'd like to say that the scenery is gorgeous 💘 I'm in love with it 😍
The first thing I've noticed is how peaceful and slow this drama is. I really like that. I wonder if there will be a lot of moments of silence because cha jin woo has a hearing impairment.
The music ambiance in this episode is amazing. You can feel how the main character feels about the world around him.
I like that mo eun understood jin woo can't hear well and went back up the rooftop to save him.
Mo eun still taking the time to reassure jin woo that everything's going to be okay in the middle of a fire, how caring of her.
So now we know jin woo is triggered by fire because something happened when he was younger. It must have taken place during high school but we don't have the details yet.
I'm in the middle of this show and I'm already in love... I think it's cute how the more they meet the more they communicate with each other and find ways to do so because jin woo can't hear.
It's amazing that they're both thoughtful about each other: she came to rescue him during the fire, he's serving her the dish and even bringing her a towel when it started raining on them. It's those little gestures that mean a lot.
Mo eun even tried to cover her ears to understand how it feels to be in jin woo's shoes.
I noticed that the first time jin woo smiled is when he was with mo eun, the only person who seems to notice him. She's the first person who went to him and tried to understand him. She even went as far as saving him because she knew if she didn't chances are he'd have been caught in the fire.
And now mo eun is learning sign language for him? Oh take my heart while you're at it! I know they're not in a romantic relationship but it's just heartwarming to see them BOTH put effort into communicating with each other and no just jin woo. It proves that she is a thoughtful person. She's thankful for jin woo helping her and she wants to let him know in the language he understands the most.
The shift in jin woo's eyes when he saw her communicate with him in sign language 💖 followed by "I always thought I was the one who should make efforts" Kindness and understanding go a long way.
Jin woo has been rejected by others (ie the grandma who swiftly went back home when she learnt he can't hear) so it must have been a relief for him to see someone not be deterred by that and trying their best to communicate with him.
What I really liked the most about this episode was that it matched with jin woo, whether it be the pacing or the sounds, it helped us put ourselves in his shoes. I'm glad this decision was made because it's rare to find shows (didn't say it was impossible) that put a spotlight on a disability that well.
I'm going to give the episode a 9/10
ps: i was made aware this is a remake of a 1995 japanese drama Aishiteiru to Ittekure. I haven't watched the drama so I won't be making any comparisons between the two. So if my opinion differs from yours because of that, please know that i am aware the japanese drama exists but i won't be watching it (for now, who knows?)

i noticed you reblog a lot of jdrama edit. it makes me wanna check them out. i rarely watch any new jdrama. my jdrama knowledge somehow stuck until around 2008-2010. 😅😅😅 can u suggest any good jdrama and briefly introduce them to me? thank you. 🙂
Hiiii!!!
I have a long list of jdramas that I loooveeee from late 1990s to current hahaha so I wanna suggest a lot but I'll start with these few and if you want more reco let me know!! *brief intros are personal, please read from mdl for more info lol*
Recent Jdramas:
Double - a struggling stage play actor takes in a wet 'puppy' and mentored him into a rising star. they both live under one roof, dependant on each other/inseparable and their inner turmoil of envy and ambition.
Old fashion cupcake - a younger co-worker has the hots for his older supervisor. started off going on dessert dates and the rest is history
Mukou no hate - a heavy, dark drama about a woman charged for arson, backstory of her harsh and traumatising life. (it is a tragic drama 😭 but it's sooo good if you're up for a serious, dark one)
Ore no Kawaii wa Mousugu Shohikigen!? - what if someone comes up to you and say I am you in 30yrs. your cuteness has an expiry date? (literally the title in english) Should you start your anti-aging skin routine now?
Silent - ongoing drama! high school sweethearts who broke up during uni,  ff to current times they reunite but found out he lost his hearing.
Jdramas that stays with me (maybe you've watched some?):
Saikou no rikon - slice of life of a crumbling marriage and the 'greatest' divorce with some comedic reliefs.
Hotaru no Hikari - a messy homebody who ends up living together with her boss (landlord's son). a lot of rolling on the tatami mats in training suits. romcom fluff
Aishiteiru to ittekure - (gotta rec this classic) romance between an actress and an artist who lost his hearing when he was a kid. she learnt sign language to communicate and soon went into a relationship + struggles in between.
Soredemo ikite yuku - another heavy emotional drama about grief of 2 families; the victims and the ones related to the murderer. This was a gem, a worthy of Best Drama.
Good Luck! - set in the airline industry, romance, dreams and passion!

Probably one of the least currently known but best dramas of all time
I think I am gonna start doing pusher posts for older dramas that I love but that don’t get much attention in fandom due to their age.
Tumblr media
First candidate is a jdrama - one that is in the running for one of my favorite jdramas of all time. It is 1995's Aishiteiru to Itte Kure, starring Toyokawa Etsushi and Takiwa Takako.
Tumblr media
Aishiteiru was a big hit when it came out - both ratings and awards-wise. But seeing that it's a very old drama by fandom standards, it is little known today. I don't know too many people who have seen it. And that is a pity, a huge pity, because it is hard to find a more natural, emotional, realistic, romantic, well-acted jdrama. Especially in the first half I felt as if I was intruding - as if the camera was following real people out there somewhere, that is how natural and real it felt. I giggled, I swooned, I cried so hard snot was coming out of my nose. Few dramas owned me as hard, before or since.
Tumblr media
Aishiteiru's set-up is simple - it is a love story between a pushy, upbeat, young aspiring actress Hiroko (Takiwa Takako) and a somewhat older, quiet, mute/deaf painter Kohji (Toyokawa Etsushi). The story centers on barriers and flaws and love. Nothing is melodramatically over the top - when bad things happen, they are realistic. When the relationship fractures - there is no made-up drama but realistic differences between people who are in different places in their lives, have different temperaments, and may not be able to make it work despite all their love for each other. When they show their love, it is all the more moving for feeling real.
Tumblr media
Before Aishiteiru, I never knew how much the lives of two rather ordinary people, with some baggage (but a baggage a person can have quite often), and with no hyperdramatic events could enthrall me. Because the things that happen are so everyday, so real, so normal, however earth-shattering to the participants they might be: a fight out of frustration, making love first thing in the morning, holding an umbrella in together in the rain, being tormented by insecurity, making rash decisions you can not undo however you regret. The relationship at the center of the drama, with its giddiness, its hurts, its complexities, and yes, its sexual charge, too (Aishiteiru allows its protagonists to be adults in their physical attraction to each other and small, everyday physical tenderness is very much present) is irresistible to watch. There are few dramas, from anywhere, that got me this emotionally engrossed. Favorite quote: "I love you. I will love you today, and tomorrow, and the day after that. Isn't it enough?" Favorite scene: When he screams for her on the train platform. I sort of died. So, go watch! And discover a forgotten gem.
