“They hate me.” He said as he sat down on your shared bed, fixing to slide on his shoes.

Alec had made a mistake.

A mistake that the broadcast just so happened to catch.

“They know you really don’t hate Philadelphia, babe.” You sighed as you sat next to him, “It was in the moment. You were having a bad night and I’m sure they can figure that out.”

“But still. I said I fucking hate it here on tv, Y/N.” He ran his hand over his face before letting out a dark chuckle, “Don’t be shocked if I’m traded soon.” Is all he said before silence filled the room.

“You’re not going to be traded.” You pinched the bridge of your nose, “You’re being so dramatic.”

“Am I?” He raised an eyebrow at you, “You see, when people fuck up big time at their jobs, they don’t tend to stay very long after the fuck up.”

You rolled your eyes at your curly headed boyfriend as you tugged your own shoes on your feet.

“Again; dramatic.”

“Fix him.” Brandon commanded as he guided you to Alec by your arms, “I’m not sure what you did-“

“What I did?!” You scoffed, “I didn’t do anything! He’s upset over what happened at last nights game. Thinks he’s going to be traded or something.” You defensiveness caused Brandon to let out a laugh before he ran a hand through his beard.

Brandon went quiet as you two neared Alec, his head in his hands as he sat in the chair outside of his stall. His cleats were in front of him and he wasn’t even looking like he was going to make an attempt to even put them on.

You and Brandon had been standing there for a few minutes, not sure what to even say to him.

“Are either of you going to speak or are you just going to stand there and stare at me?” He asked, hostility filling his voice.

“What’s wrong?”

“I don’t want to go out there.”

You looked towards Brandon, who offered you a shrug, “You have to, Al.” You sighed, “You cant sit in here and mope.”

“I can.” He snapped as he looked at you, his eyes darting between you and Brandon, “I fucked up.”

“You did,” You said, “but you also owned up to it and took responsibility.” You added, “They’re not going to hate you for it. Had you of not owned it, yeah, I’d see that happening,” you said as you took his hand in yours, “but you’re stressing over nothing right now.” You stopped as you thought of something, “And I’m here to tell you every mistake, every disappointment has led you here. To this moment, whether it was by a stupid mistake or an accident. You live and you learn and you’ve learned from your mistakes.” You whispered as you cupped his face, “Now get out there and kick some ass, A.”

You had joined Lexi and Dru back out in the stands, then giving you concerned looks as you had rushed out of there quite quickly.

“He okay?” Dru asked as she held Lexi’s newborn.

“Yeah. Just stressed. Needed a pep talk I guess.” You shrugged as you all sat down, the game finally getting started.

It was into the bottom of the second inning and Alec had been announced to be the next hitter at the plate.

The fans roared in cheers and applause as they stood up for their young third baseman, him taking in the love and acceptance that they were offering.

He knew he had fucked up, but he also knew that these Philly fans were accepting him because he had owned up to it all.

No hiding.

No lying.

Nothing.

He did a full circle as he took it all in, a grin on his face as he walked up to the batters box.

“He looks good, despite it all. JT was worried about him during BP today.” Lexi admitted about her husband.

“Yeah, he’s been a mess. Keeps saying he’s going to get traded,” you grinned, “but he’s seeing I was right about it all.”

Your eyes darted to your sweet boyfriend as he took a ball before getting adjusted once again.

Crack

The sound of the bat filled the air as he rounded the bases, watching the ball fly into the stands.

The bell went off as the crowd went into a frenzy, them all cheering and fist pumping the air as Alec met JT at home plate, him congratulating him.

“He needed that.” Dru said, “He needed to feel the love from them. To know they have his back.”

“He did,” you grinned as you felt her wrap her arm over your shoulder, “Just glad he can finally see it.”
